Hearing you say F**k, when shaking tremendously with your cam, after the Tristar did the go-around, was a great part in your video. It shows how passionate you are about aviation and filming. Keep up the great work mate!
I once saw a dog run across runway 24 at Sydney right as a B767 was about to touch down. The pilot aborted the landing and only missed the dog by a few feet.
I lived and worked in France for 14 years near the city of Perpignan which is about 150 kilometres south of Toulouse where the Airbus factory is. The airport at Perpignan is very quiet so Airbus used it for training. When the A380 came on line they trained the buyers' pilots there doing touch and goes. It was amazing to watch them coming in from the direction of the Med and touch down with just a puff of smoke from the tyres before they lifted off again to do another circuit. Sadly, the A380 is now going out of production due to lack of demand.
It's just too hard to fill those beasts - the airlines would rather have a full 777 than a 2/3 full 380... and with half the engines, they save money on maintenance.
Good to know the "go around" is the same approach. I was recently a passenger on an A319 in Norfolk Virginia that did a touch and go on 39 knots. We diverted to DC to refuel and finally make it back 3 hours late. United didn't offer anything except, "sorry for the inconvenience."
We were on a BA flight in June 22 back from Porto to Heathrow that actually touched the runway then it took off again. It was the most scariest moment of my life. 😱😱The pilot offered no explanation…
You should've thanked him, if the pilot decided to go around it means there was a threat to the safety of the landing even though the aircraft already touched down the runaway. Going around is always the safest option.
Any time the nose is angled left or right of your course line in order to maintain a predetermined ground track, it is referred to as crabbing. Very strong crosswinds with an extreme crosswind component will require a very large crab angle. These landing jets executed go arounds because they were at or above their published limitations. When the rudder is used to rotate the aircraft about it's vertical axis, it is referred to as yawing.
Nice views of the L1011. Such a beautiful aircraft and way ahead of it's time. The DC 10 had me thinking you'd got the wrong ID .. but then .. you left the best for last. Well done. Good stuff. (y)
Very nice video! My grandfather used to build the L-1011 TriStar along with the SR-71, as he worked in the old Skunk Works with Kelly Johnson. So of course those are my favorite aircraft! Nice camera work!
The L-1011 was ahead of its time, but problems obtaining the engines from Rolls Royce caused it to be rolled out late in the race to introduce widebody jets. It was the first passenger jet capable of landing itself. It's my personal favorite and I flew in many of them in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Correct me if I am wrong. But I remember as a kid my jaw dropped when the flight attendant closed the door. It was an electronic door which operated like a car window. Only it went up into the body instead of down. Am I right?
I had no clue what a go around was until my plane did one a couple of days ago. It touched down for maybe a couple of seconds. Crazy jolt in the aircraft. The Bag compartments came flying open and a few bags came out. My wife is such a space cadet , she was like “it was just turbulence” It was crazy. I didn’t know commercial aircraft could do that. I thought I was about to be depicted in a movie.

Yes that can happen for sure, particularly when the pilots believe they’re going to circle around for anther landing. However standard procedure is always to retract the landing gear on a go-around, and then do a full landing check again prior to touchdown.
wow, I could not belive the pollution comming out of that Awacs plane. If you drove a car in Germany that pollutet the air like that, they would fine you and make you park your car.
