Thanks for the clip….I’ve been using some similar acrylic paints and found that the longer they sit on the blank the more the color fades. Wondered if a clear coat spay would help keep the color vibrant. Anyways, thanks for the vids. Take care and have a great 2022!

Helpful video. Only played with resin tints before, but looking to paint the foam on my next build. Appreciate the info. Cheers from California.

You can water down a water based acrylic, use a stocking to filter it and spray onto foam too, thats how MR still does his even now, I like sueegees as the same colours never come out the same

HI mate, can you do this after sanding the hotcoat then painting with water based acrylic the hotcoat again? cheers!

You can but the paint will work differently, won't attach as well unless its sprayed with a tin or compressor. Painting the rails will be fine but if you're doing a squeegee then definately do it on the foam.

Thanks mate, it's a good process and the first waves you catch on something that you made yourself is awesome. If I get down that way, for sure....shred time

Cool vid man! I love how Australian this video is..... can hear some bogan doing a burnout in the background! Would acrylic paints work in between layers? If the first layer was dried and sanded up of course

We do a podcast and record it on the front verandah, get lots of cars going past, yeah I use acrylic pain and no dramas layering it, i do quite a few squeegee designs

So that was paint before glassing?

    • @Crankinsurf7000

Hi David, this is acrylic water based paint onto foam, if I use a brush, I water down the paint but the squeegee is straight paint.

Cristopher Hogg go on ebay and order a 2 set rubber grain pulling toolset. they are cheap £4 /£5 and very effective. You can go for realistic wood finish in planks going down the deck separated by masking tape making realistic combos of pine wood and mahogany etc. they don't come with handles so use to pencils and shove them in the holes effective. pull and rock at the same time and don't stop down the entire length of the deck. you can use bright colours for a commercial look like bright green with white grain or yelow grain an red background with yelow black etc . you put a first flat rolled on colour let dry then put on the grain colour solid with roller then drag too down and it removes colour leaving grain. I've had good results with it looks super real just like a hobby balsa skin board finish enjoy thanks for the video nice technique on your board

Can u use this technique with and airbrush

    • @Crankinsurf7000

You could tape up and do it, give it a try, there's no wrong way when it comes to art, golden rule is...if you like it, others will too

Christopher Hogg Really interesting . You have to watch how much water you mix with acrylic, dilute it too much and it its too weak blotchy and when you try go over it to darken it in the blotches it goes even darker in those areas an makes it look worse. Your blue came out a great even flow.. What colour blue was that? I tried a darker blue and its a bitch doesnt paint as flat and even as your blue.?

a trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.

the squeegee or the rail paint? This is one I use and some like it, some don't and being art it is subjective, I'm actually my worst critic.

@@Crankinsurf7000 I know that the retro swirl is back in style, it's just I never liked it back then either. Good video though for those who want to go in that direction.

I’ve done this for years now but imagine how boring it’d be if we all liked the same stuff, I like that it’s not for you as it means you like your own style 👍
