It's not often to get honest reviews from professionals, I know myself, as I have stand-up surfed since I was 10 and now I'm 57. Thanks for always giving your expert advice. I feel the same as you when you say there is a place for "those" boards ,and if you think about it, it makes having a real board shaped by a local shaper that much more valuable. Thank you, to all of you artists who have invested so much time in building the perfect tools for me to enjoy all those days in the line up :)🦊🤙
Good on you mate from Oahu. Hope to have occasion surf with you ASAP and if I could manage riding a few of your customs as I am 6'3"and about 14 stone. one or more of your shapes for North Shore barrels. Hollow barrels and no Waikiki plastic log or fish riding stuff at all, OK? Cheers!
@@Crankinsurf7000 Glad you are fixing them and I'm sure there are others. Would hate to think that another popular mass-produced item is scrapped rather than repaired.
I just purchased a Lost Driver 3.0 Lightspeed, "made in vietnam" much to my surprise. It has no double concave in it and is completely flat in the tail. Not even a vee concave out the tail. Buyer beware. I've had Firewire's that have completely defective concaves in their designs, too. These factory pop-out boards are not true to their intended design. Buyer beware!
Never seen them made there before, the glassing is usually good but it's the sanding that becomes a problem with burn throughs. The bottom surprises me as the machine should cut it in, I am not a fan of Firewire. Poor quality.
I was in backyard industry north shore Oahu since 88. Just glassing. I quit about 10 years ago. I made more money at 19 in early 80s in my first few years in industry than I did my last year building boards. China boards kept prices cheap in Hawaii. Still are cheap. But I don't care. I just put up my sign . gone surfing and left.

Yet to meet a shaper who is keen on repairing an heaps-poxy board
They are not fun, I do them if they're easy ones though

I dont like supporting those Chinese foreign boards but, they are cheap and good to trash while you keep your good quiver intact
Backpackers love them and learners who want a cheap board, yeah probably good to thrash so you don't ruin your A board
Might have kiwi blood. Yeah Nah yeah yeah Nah.. Nah
haha yeah it's an aussie thing but all in one take, no editing it out
A lot of craps from temporary factories

Do Chinese surfboards have a place in the industry?
Yes.
To take over and make money at the cost of everything pure in surfing.
Do you think the backyard industry is growing as it seems to be where I live
