I have sanded over 5k boards, laminated over 3k, no guess on how many fins or fin systems, or ding repairs. You glassed and sanded a board in the same room. Didn't see any ventilation, and the room was smaller then my sanding room. Always have had designated rooms for each
@@gregwebster8784 Hotcoat and glosscoat is basically the same. Hotcoat is the term for the filler coat which is the first coat after glassed. Gloss coat is the second coat after the hotcoat is sanded. You can polish it at the hotcoat. All you have to it's increase the grit. In this case he did up to 800. Then you can do 1,000 1,200,1500, and 2,000 for a shine/polish. Then compound it and then wax polish it for a maximun shine.
Yes they do. More money though. For a shine "gloss finish" you are to sand with finer grit after reaching 2,000 then you can buff, compound, wax and finish/shine will pop.
@@Surfmus absolutely not. Lolol! Gloss resin is completely different, and costs 3 times as much. It's harder and polishes shinier. And who's sanding to 2000 grit? 320, 400, and 600.

What model of sander are you using? Thanks for the great video!

love the way you work
Why do I keep picturing this shaper as Anthony Hopkins????...That's It! he's the Anthony Hopkins of surfboard-making.
Seems I’m 6 years late to this party but Mr. Harvey how many different grits do you use between 120 and 800?
Hi if you wanted a gloss finish would you buff after the wet and dry or (now im showing my age ) do they still make a gloss resin ?
crispernator Yep! They still make gloss resin, but everyone cheats and uses hot coat to save money.
