Phil loves to target different species at different times of the year, this keeps him on his toes. Only a month ago Phil was chasing big bream on a large gravel pit. If you haven’t seen what went on check out the Big Bream Specimen Series film here! ruclips.net/video/px8HaH9Oc_c/видео.html
A lovely video displaying the cracking beast that is the tench. Maggots as a bait have not dipped in tench capturing power in my 30 years of fishing. Rich will be the man who develops a commercial venue dealing solely in tench, not sure what all the F1 fuss is! 😀☺️😀
Phil, brilliant session mate, and another well made film for your Specimen Series 👍🏻 How did your "No cameras" session go after we last spoke on Friday? The Barbel Show was good by the way. 😀👍🏻👌🏻🎣🔥
Thank you Kenny, always nice when the fish turn up for the cameras 👌 Glad the Barbel show went well. Been enjoying some great fishing off camera this season 🤫😉 Regards, Phil
Hi Samuel, I was wearing a Ridgemonkey coat that is now sadly discontinued. @@AnglingDirectTV cheers Phil, I’ll try and seek a couple out👍. Using 5010s at the moment but just looking for an upgrade, lol. Been fishing popped up maggots on heli rig but struggling to pick up Tench at the minute but everyone is struggling so hoping with the warmer weather things gonna change😃😃
Great video as usual always full of info. I take it you are hitting the clip on the cast to keep accurate, but what happens when the fish takes line on baitrunner and hits them hits clip ?
Hello Gareth, I was fishing the Great Lake at Billingford. But don't ignore the other lakes as they all have numbers of tench including a few very large fish. Regards, Phil
Thank you Andrew, I love the Delkim smart clips, they create a much better line angle over the bite alarm. They also support the weight of the bobbin so your line isn't so tight to the feeder. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/delkim-smart-clips?queryID=c44c9675a4dab73485a52ba30d067c02&objectID=34882&indexName=live_ad_uk_products Hope this helps? Regards Phil,
Interesting rig setup, if I use an inline maggot feeder and a 4” hooklength I find that the hook often loops back up and catches on the top of the maggot feeder. Does the rubber maggot over the hook eye prevent this or the small rubber sleeve over the loop end of the hook length? I tend to use heli-rigs with maggot feeder to prevent this but prefer in-line. Thanks
Hi FRSNMNTY, Using a small anti-tangle sleeve helps, but more importantly using a short fluorocarbon hook link is the most important factor. Fluorocarbon is much stiffer than mono, Phil's choice of fluorocarbon is Drennan Supplex in 10lb B/S. Another great tip is to stretch the hook link with a pulla tool if it becomes slightly kinked to ensure it's nice and straight again. Hope this helps 👌
@@AnglingDirectTV thanks for that, I tend to buy guru banded hooks on 4” but they’re to N gauge mono. I’ll have to look for pretied 4” hook rigs that use fluorocarbon.
Hi Steve, The only reason I put the bream rods away is I enjoy fishing for everything. The bream fishing is great all summer and probably gets even better into Autumn. I choose to have a few bream trips early spring, then move onto tench once it warms up. I find mixing my fishing up and fishing for a wide variety of species keeps it fresh and interesting. Regards Phil
A few different factors play a part in finding the spots. The obvious one being seeing signs of tench either fizzing or rolling. Then this particular lake is quite weedy so a few casts with a marker float to find clean areas. I personally like to follow the wind on larger lakes in the Springtime, especially wind from the South or South West. I hope this helps? Phil

During this one movie you catched more tenches than I in my entire life [fishing career of 22 years]......
The tench certainly came on the feed that session 👌
Good luck with your fishing
Phil,
Hi phill just watched the video great one love the tench what lake was that on ? at billingford as I’m not far from there like give it be a crack

Regards Phil,
Cracking as always. Just wondering if the small roach had been a pest, would you switch to fake maggots on the hook ?
Thank you Mightymaggot, yes definitely an option! I’ve caught plenty of big tench on rubber maggots and casters.

Hey Phil why do put the bream rods away? Is bad time of year for big ones cause of spawning?

How did you decide which spot out in the lake to fish in?

I personally like to follow the wind on larger lakes in the Springtime, especially wind from the South or South West.

Phil
How do they not get wrapped round the lines from the other 2 rods??
They do sometimes 🤭
Quite often I will fish just two rods if the swim is tight.
