Love Phil. Probably the best all round angler around. So refreshing to see somebody not just about CARP! Nice to see he uses simple gear and tactics too! Cheers Phil!
@@philspinks4142 Always nice to see big perch, they have done a bit of a disappearing act on the upper Ouse above Bedford, not sure what you meant by the lockdown, we were on the banks more than ever due to customers not wanting us working in their houses.
Another quality production from adtv , a traditional perch bobber with a cork body and wooden stem is good for this type of fishing the buoyancy of the cork can suspend a large lobworm or two , prawn or maybe a small live bait if the venue allows it .
yes ill go along with that Stonefly514, very nice video there shame you didn't catch more, ive said before to other people sometimes catching fish is a bonus, thank you Phil and the camera person??👍👍
Hi phil. Great video. Always so easy to listen to. When using the olivette, do you use them on the bottom, setting the depth as in the lift method, or do you use them at part depth?
Hi Mike, The olivette is used the cock the float and sits off the bottom, I plumb the depth so that the bait is fished laying on the bottom . Hope this makes sense? Phil,
Hi John, the single maggot is normally enough to hold the worm on. Otherwise using a bait flag trimmed down with some scissors works well. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/pikepro-bait-flags?queryID=b475521ec8022773671af68020528970&objectID=87159&indexName=live_ad_uk_products
Few years back on a canal I used to fish in Maldon Essex, one of the canal boat owners down there caught a massive perch. I can't remember the exact weight but it was a UK record at that time. Trouble is the guy didn't go through the proper authentication procedure to register the fish as a record so I don't think much came of it. 😕
Hi Tommy, Phil had targeted big bream before on the Specimen Series, but I'm sure he will be out after some more big bream with the cameras at some point. ruclips.net/video/P2wNFr5leDc/видео.html
I fish for perch with very similar tackle and bait prolly a bit cruder: 0.25mm line, 10-15g balser transparent float, size 4 long shank hook. I fish big river and sometimes need up to 30m distance + greater visibility.
That’s a cracking perch Phil … just been watching some of your eel fishing and thought I would see if you have any perch videos and glad I found this one …. Perch fishing is what I love & My goal is to catch three pounder. i’ve been really close so many times and can’t believe on your first bite you nailed a 3 pounder !!!! What a beautiful fish and hopefully one day I can catch something like that. Subscribe to the channel and just want to say you have a really calm attitude to Angling and take everything nice and steady which is what I like. A proper Angler !!! Nice one and well done 👍🏽😁🎣
Thinking of taking up fishing again after many years absent. It would be nice to see how you decided to fish right out there when you got there - was it a tip from a local, half an hour plumbing around (if so, how do you go about it)... or what? You are the modern-day John Wilson Phil....😉
Hello Red snappa, Ive fished small still waters a fair bit for big perch over the years so learnt a bit about location. A good idea is to try a more mobile approach the first time you go such as jigging or drop shot fishing. This allows you to search several different areas to locate the perch. Otherwise look for signs of small fish as often the big perch are close by. Although the margins and marginal cover such as over hanging trees can produce I prefer the open water. Most my still water perch fishing is done in the cooler months and the open water is ofter deeper that attracts the shoals of small roach etc that perch prey on. If the lake in this video had deeper margins I would have perhaps fished closer in.
I always feel for english fisherman.. having to go out to a venue.. or a commercial.. yes catching some small carp is fun.. but u guys really drew the short straw when it comes to fishing.. Like i have lakes around my house that is 1000 times this size.. and fishing is free like.. i can go when i want... where i want...
Hi Aaron Phil winds the reel backwards (back winding) when playing the fish to give it line. Some anglers use the drag on the reel to give line during the fight, some choose to back wind…Phil uses a combination of both 👌
Hi Ben, I guess you mean 40cm? A 40cm perch would be a very nice perch. I'm a bit old school and still weigh my fish. For me a 3lb perch is the target, although very pleased when I'm catching 2lb+ perch. Regards Phil
@@AnglingDirectTV Hi Phil. Thanks for the reply. I live on the west coast of scotland and our deep freshwater lochs offer excellent perch fishing. My biggest this season(summer lure season) was a 43.5cm but now you have me wondering what weight that was - I am going to carry scales with me on my lure fishing sessions and may even try a worm I have never bait fished for perch. You should carry a tape measure for the big ones if you wouldn't mind ;)

Great video Phil how about some lovely crucian carp fishing absolutely lovely fish ?
Fishing for crucian carp sounds like a great plan to me! Glad you enjoyed the video Shane 👍
Really enjoy your videos Phil. How about a spot of Rudd fishing?
I would love to film some big Rudd, sometimes tricky finding the right venues. But you never know?

Nice video. How do you keep the worm on the hook when using barbless? Does that single maggot just do enough to keep it from wriggling off?
Hi John, the single maggot is normally enough to hold the worm on. Otherwise using a bait flag trimmed down with some scissors works well.

BIG perch can turn up anywhere! That's what makes them so fun to fish for 😊

Great advice, when fishing rivers for big perch a bigger loafer style float is better 👍

What on earth are you winding the reel handle backwards
