Mind-blowing crucians! I love everything about this film. Its pace absolutely encapsulates everything I think of when someone mentions crucians. Fishing for big ones seem to have a timeless quality about it, and what a venue!
This series has been mind blowing for me .Everything about it just makes me love fishing even more .. the joy the sadness the great outdoors u can’t beat it 🏴
Lovely video Phil, I bet your over the moon with those Crucian, as they say your never to old to learn, hahahaha. I have some nice cork handled fox rods at 1 1/2 lb tc. I am now looking for the old waters I used to fish as a small lad where I caught many a Crucian. Lets hope they are still there and have grown on, It would make a nice change for me too. I do like the way you handle your fish and wet your hands toughly when your taking the fish out of the landing net, moving them to the unhooking mat ready to weigh, all done so smoothly without fuss to worry the fish.
Really enjoyed that video - had a smile on my face all the way through it, thank you! Your skills and knowledge are simply inspiring, (although my inability to replicate is sometimes frustrating). It was largely thanks to you (when you were in the Beccles store - with your advice, help and friendliness) that I re-entered the world of angling and all the pleasures that it has given me since. My gratitude for all of that Phil and also for yet another wonderful video!
Just brilliant. My favourite species of fish by far, in particular big ones. I fish a low stock venue and have had 7 this whole year, biggest 3lb 14oz, but I must have fished it 20 times to get those fish. Thanks for another cracking episode.
A great video phill i love watchi g your vids.brilliant angling.its nice to see that big crucian carp still exit in some places.it brought back childhood memories whwn i used to catch crucian carp.not big ones but still enjoyabke.keep up the great videos.
Thanks for another great video. I have watched them all over the last few days. Brings back my younger years love of specimen hunting. I would love a video on how to catch Zander, a species which has been on my bucket list for years.
I will add our scales were very old spring type from the 1960s that our father had for years so may have been well out by the time we weighed fish with them.
Fantastic film, what an incredible catch of Crucians that was from an incredibly skilful angler. I'd love to see Phil have a go at fishing for river Zander, maybe on the Severn or Avon.
fantastic video phil ..youre videos have that old charm about em...classicly done ...keep them coming....and some very nice crucians phil...tight lines....
You needn't have worried about disturbance Phil. Crucians are very inquisitive. When I filmed some relatively big fish underwater they were drawn (in numbers) to the disturbance caused by the camera and even purposely headbutted it on several occasions. When I introduced the camera with stealth they weren't there but every time that I made a disturbance/created localised colouring with its introduction the fish turned up within 5 mins.
Fantastic fish and looks like an awesome venue. Usually fish a place called Rocklands nr Thetford for crucian and Pb of 2lb 4oz was a cracking fish…. But these are huge!! How’s about a barbel session soon?? Wye or Trent??
Thank you Mannling, it is a very special and unique venue for sure. We know Rocklands mere very well, it's a beautiful little lake with some stunning crucians and tench. A barbel specimen series could be nice, maybe a more traditional approach rather than the heavy handed approach needed on the river Trent?
Thank you Adam, glad you liked the video. Phil was using a Nash bush Whacker baiting pole. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/nash-bushwhacker-baiting-pole-system-15m?queryID=65ea4bac2ee1706e003004e51af83bf1&objectID=83878&indexName=live_ad_uk_products
Its Funny you should be in Shropshire my brother worked on a farm near Shrewsbury in the late 80s that had a small pool on the land which held Crucians we weighed in excess of 4 pound ( i cant remember the weights exactly). This pool also held Perch over 4 pound and some very big Rudd and Roach. I dont know if it still exists .
Great video. Some lovely crucians too. Amazed at the baiting pole. Use a catapult myself. Seems a delicate and quiet way of presenting bait. Thanks for an informational video.
Thank you Mark. A traditionalist would definitely frown at me using the baiting pole, but it was the perfect way to place the feeders under the willow with minimal bait nice and neatly.
Fantastic video and angling Phil. I'm a Shropshire Lad, and I reckon I know exactly where you are 😁👌🏻👍🏻 what a fantastic venue. Keep the great videos coming, and to land that 30lber on such light tackle too, that shows proper skill. Who says Advanta Rods can't land big fish!! 🎣🔥👌🏻👍🏻
Is the 2500st reel not too small? I have recently purchased some Advanta 1.25lb twin tip rods( they're really damn nice). I have paired one with my TF Gear 40 airlite reels, but are a bit too heavy with the Avon top on, so what reels do you recommend?
what a video , the filming was fantastic. the b roll and the way you fished had a time less quality to it. it was edited great with the right music. this is a great fishing video and i love that it was not big carp
Thank you Wayne, glad you enjoyed the video and you appreciate the great job of filming and editing from Chris the videographer. I have the easy job catching the fish 😉
A 3lb + crucian is as rare as rocking horse poo…..Well it is to most of us. Low and behold you’ve had four of that stamp. Amazing location with your usual excellent skills.

Very warm video. I enjoyed every minute of it. The quality is awesome , i felt like i'm right there on the bank with you , so thank you for that. You and the crew surely did everything right ;-) My personal best is around 1.5kgs , so that's about 3lbs. But where i live those crucians ( carassio as we say it) are a bit lighter , they are silver in color , i'm not sure if the 2 species are the same but they are definitely similar.
@@AnglingDirectTV Thank you! I have had a few on the method feeder. My biggest actually came from the middle of the lake on a maggot feeder helicopter rig. I've since been fishing a method feeder next to the lilies and have had a few but also a lot of Tench! Part and parcel of the lake I have available to me.
Thank you, it's difficult to avoid the big carp at times. Baiting up very softly helps in my opinion. And the crucian do love feeding very close in too. regards Phil,

That's not crucian fishing that's too clinical for my liking. If you're going after a lovely old school pond fish like that it has to be a very light weighted float to fully enjoy the experience of these magical fish.
Lost for words, epic crucian.. congratulations.
Thank you Brad, definitely one of my favourite Specimen Series I've been fortunate enough to film 🙂

Phil,
I could listen to Phil till the cows come home, always great advice & from a great fisherman. Cheers Phil🐟🪱🎣👍
Thank you for the kind comment ☺️
Good luck with your own fishing,
Phil,
The venue, the fish, the birds singing, this place has it all.
So glad you fished for the crucians what fantastic fish top angling 👍👏

WOW mega mega awesome film, and som very nice and monster big Crucian Carp.
What about som Barbel fishing??
Fantastic video! Phill's calm but informative approach is a nice change to the extreme excitable normal fishing videos.
Thank you James, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I don't pretend to be anyone else but me on camera if that makes sense.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Very enjoyable watch again from Phil Spinks.
loved it, well done I wish I had a water like that down near he kent coast
Thank you Alf, I think the fact big crucians are so rare makes them even more special.

Great catching. The video is very inspiring. I hope to catch some to in the future. Next year maybe. Thanks for showing your skills.

Top fishing Phil, do enjoy your videos. Just a shame that even though im in Shropshire id probably never get a chance to fish a venue like that!
Thank you Lee, I was very fourtunate indeed to fish such a special place.

I'd be smiling for a week if I caught one of these! What is the little weigh bag that your using?????
Just a week 😉, I'm still smiling Gareth. Small weigh slings can be hard to find for big little fish, that was a Korum sling that I've had sometime.

My venue is low stock and although I've had a few on the float they leave me pulling my hair out, so maybe back to the method feeder for me.
Crucians can be very very frustrating at times, fizzing and rolling in your swim but avoiding capture for hours. Good luck on the feeder Dick.

Hi Ant, the 1.75’s would be a bit heavy for crucian fishing to be honest. The 1.25 tc are perfect for big crucians tho. 👌
my biggest crucian was about 2 kg
How about a catfish episode?
