These offerings via RUclips are one of the main reasons why I am grateful to the Lord for having me live enough years (81) to be around in an era when humans anywhere can reach out to the best musicians, conductors, composers, orchestras, enjoy their art !!! -- all the while having a cup of coffee in your own home. Miraculous.... What a musical travel odyssey: from my first concert at Havana's Auditorium in 1954 (Erich Kleiber, Dvorak's New World and Tschaicovsky's Pathétique) to Baden Baden's Festspielhaus (Zubin Mehta and the Wiener), to being familiar with Abbado, Furtwangler, Gergiev, Von Karajan, to know the Concertgebouw, the Berliner, the Met, el Liceu, as familiarly as the Arsh here in Miami, and, most of all, to be virtually almost on a first name basis with Daniel Barenboim and Martha Argerich....... well, that's too much, that's "demasié" Can't contain my joy, period REPLY
Indeed! It is a blessing to enjoy from the best, here from my phone, and my earbud that want to explode, because I want to transmute my whole being into music. And also have the privilege to subscribe to wonderful performers' and outstanding composers' RUclips channels, and my humble comments get a reply from them......??? Truly is a privilege to live this. Thank you Sir, for your kind and wise words. May God give you many more years in this journey.
It is amazing isn’t it. It brings the world right to your home. I have discovered so many wonderful musicians (Nahre Sol, who also plays WONDERFUL Chopin Scherzos under her real name Alice Hwang), double bassist Mikyung Sung, and more.
Imagine forgetting to add a period after using 'period' in a phrase. Nah jk, any formalities across a platform like this would be ironically stupid in its own right ;) (I agree with you btw)
I have listened and loved this wonderful music by Grieg for a long long time. These musicians are just fantastic. Thank you to all of you for bringing us such joy.
The majority of the comments here are about the joy and energy of the performers. Okay fine but also THEY ARE PLAYING FROM MEMORY. Not *super* hard for the first violins bc they have the melody more than anyone else, but the harmony and counterpoint lines are SOOOOO hard to memorize. I'm a professional violist and no way could I memorize this whole suite. These musicians are unbelievable.
I love this performance so much, so I watch this everyday when eating lunch or dinner for about 2 months straight; and I get a high out of listening each time!!
Because they truly possess the gift they are giving us, we truly receive it and possess it in turn. I think we need the Camerata Nordica the same way a suffocating man needs oxygen.
There is such a thing as pure joy in music. By interiorizing Grieg's score, these brilliant musicians are able to infuse that joy directly into our hearts. Please be always true to your sublime art, dear Camarata Nordica.
The High School Chamber Orchestra in Manhattan, Kansas performed this piece without music as well. Quite impressive! ruclips.net/video/Gg9qBo4nG1I/видео.html
@Hugh Jones Dieterich Buxtehude, born 1637 in Helsingborg (now Sweden, then Kingdom of Denmark) was an accomplished organist and composer. Franz Berwald, born 1796 in Stockholm, wrote four symphonies and some operas. Edvard Grieg, born 1843 in Bergen, was for all but the last two years of his life a citizen of the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway; he was also half-Scottish. Norwegians have hidden depths and many talents for a small population.
A gem of a piece, played with love and enthusiasm. The Holberg suite is one of those pieces of music which engender waves of indefinable nostalgia in me - immensely uplifting, much needed in these troubled times.
I commented on this video 2 years ago, since then I have heard it many times. And every time I hear it, I appreciate more the wonderful interaction between the performers, the joy they clearly feel in playing this music, their spontaneity -- Heaven's above but this is wonderful music making and one I come back to again and again - this is what music making is about -it is pure joy.
I listened to this so many times in 2018 to prepare for a string camp! Now we are playing this song again. It was a bit foggy in my mind until I found this video - then all the joy and memories of listening to the song came rushing back! 🥰

I first heard this music many years ago while living in Oslo briefly... and am only rediscovering it now. This is the most exciting performance I have seen in a long time!!!

I honestly cannot find the words to describe the beauty of this music and this performance. I fell in love with the Holberg Suite by listening to a performance by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, which is gorgeous. And although verging on the impossible, this I think is even better. Thanks for posting!
Might just be my new favourite performance of this work... so fresh, so vibrant and so charming and I LOVE seeing how joyous their experience making music together is
In a world of DVDs and amazing recordings, how inspirational to see this group revelling in this wonderful music. And the Holberg Suite both in the piano version and the string version is great music. Anyone who knows only Peer Gynt and the piano concerto should listen to this - and then on to the lyric pieces, sonatas etc - well, sadly Grieg still doesn't have the recognition that he deserves. Thank you for posting this joyous performance.
A moving performance in every sense of the word. The players sway like dancers. This is such a break from the "stuffed shirt" style of most classical players.
Standing, baroque style, moving around, 21st Century Euro style, very theatrical, very effective. Hear the String Quartet of this extremely underrated composer sometime. A forward-looking work which influenced younger composers.
This is incredible! Love watching them dance as they’re playing! So entertaining to see and hear! The most incredible part is that they have it memorized! Flawless!
This music is utter delight. I defy even the most cynical soul not to find so much in it to rejoice about. I go to it often if I need cheering up or to have a quiet weep. This performance is breathtaking and sensitive, charming and exciting. So, in future, when I need a cheering up or a good old weep, it is this wonderful performance to which I shall return again and again. Thank you so much for posting... :)
I had found your recommendation of it, thanks. This finishes my day of newly discovered Grieg works. Nothing beats overcoming ignorance by discovering listenable music.
"This performance is breathtaking and sensitive, charming and exciting." Breathtaking and exciting...perhaps. However, these musicians brutalize their string instruments way too much in the fast movements. A sensitive and charming performance does not include the sound of strings hammered against the fingerboard and grating noises. That's OK in Piazzolla or - to an extent - in Shostakovich, but not in Grieg. Their tempi also run away with them way too often. It's an over-the-top performance which has its nice and exciting moments, but overall, the playing is too undisciplined and crass.
I began to love classical music when I heard 40 years ago in a public within my country Holberg Suite. I recorded it on a cassette tape. I heard it a hundred times. Today, I listen only classical music. From Argentina, thanks Grieg... thanks Camerata Nordic !!
Technically this isn't classical music... it's orchestral, but it's not in the classical style. I don't like actual classical music because it tends to be really formulaic, meanwhile Grieg has a lot of emotion, and this song was more of a love note to the baroque era.
I indicate classical music as renaissance music, baroque, rorocó, classical, romantic, postromantic, impressionist, etc. The music we hear in theaters and on the records, played by orchestras, chamber ensembles, etc. Could it be called cultured, academic music? Music that is not usually called "popular." Classics were Mozart and Haydn, for example. But I also like Peri, Caccini, Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Albinoni, Corelli, Weiss, Händel, Bach, Wagenseil, L. Hofmann, D. Scarlatti, Spohr, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Verdi, Puccini, Borodin, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Respighi, Ravel , Debussy, etc. etc. etc. Suite Holberg was one of the works I first heard. Together with Vivaldi and Mozart, she took me to everything else. You understand?. Thanks and regards.,
Sadly, I sense despair and despondency all about what was -until recently-"White Judeo-Christian-Humanist" Europe:. What a sad state of affairs-and an indictment of our continent's surrender to "political correctness," such as all this blm /reparations madness. BJ.. citizen of England [once a green and pleasant land]. PS: superb music played to perfection.
I stumbled upon this video while searching RUclips for the orchestra of Tutti Camarata. What a glorious discovery! For 38 years I played what the lady between the cellists is playing. Had to retire from it for health reasons. Playing this entire suite from memory is an amazing accomplishment!
What a feat this is. Instead of gazing at their music stands the musicians are moving together and making eye contact. The result is inspiring. An outstanding performance in every way enhanced by the video. Bravo!
Great watching this again this morning. Such amazing musicianship but also joy and pleasure bouncing off each other. Grieg - what a genius! How could anyone not be touched in the deepest way by such beautiful music?
Fantastic and fabulous. I think I said something like this before. Outstanding performance. Nobody minds about the odd tiny mishap in a Holberg Suite of this quality. Truly impressive. 🎶🌟👍
My love of Grieg grows whenever I hear his music. These musicians would make him proud! Picturing Grieg smiling from Heaven on this performance. God bless you all.
This is chamber music on a grand scale. There is so much to love in this exciting video: the organic, satisfying tempi; the audacity of their dynamic range; the faces of the players so eloquently reflecting the emotion of the musical phrases; the descent to a true "niente" at 5:30-:33; the little musical "conversations" - among the Violin 2s, between celli and violas in Mvt. 1, among the soli quartet and the flirtation between cello 1 & 2 in Mvt. 3; and last but not least, the physical attractiveness of all these individuals. Bravi tutti.
Recently BBC radio 3 recommended a 1980's version by the Academy of St Martins in the Field. as an older man, I grew up with and it is wonderful, but this performance has an authenticity and a Nordic feel with the violins having a sense of the Hardanger fiddle . Great Joy.
I often share this performance with my students. The playing is exquisite and your passion is remarkable. There is so much joy in making music, but you don't often see it like this. Thank you!
This is real music making. They are totally attuned to each other. If this was some theatrical bs you would see it hear it, and above all, feel it. One thing I appreciate is that the group is comprised of musicians of different ages and physical types. One might think this doesn't mean much, but too many ensembles go for a "sexy", "cute" and largely young look these days as though they feel they can't hold the attention of an audience without being "cool" and "hip". This is great ensemble!
It is astounding that all these violinists can stand up, with no printed sheet music in front of them, and play a complex classical piece like this FROM MEMORY for nearly 20 minutes, and all in perfect synchronicity with each other.
I just love this Camerata Nordica String Orchestra version of Grieg's "Holberg Suite": It BANGS. Especially, that blonde cellist in the middle: what an expressive face! OXOXOXO1 D. C. Weiser
Yes. There is no conductor, so they have to communicate with looks and facial expression. It makes for a wonderfully theatrical performance. I always prefer when the musicians are standing.
Yes, I also like Kaleidescope, in Los Angeles in much the same way. Another wonderful unknown chamber orchestra (though they don’t stand) is River Oaks in Houston TX.
Very nice interactions among all the musicians, and the fact that they're all playing from memory means they can really concentrate on freely making music.
Auch nach 8 Jahren noch NUMBER ONE in meiner Mediathek! Gelebte Musik braucht keine Noten.

NOOOOO!!!! I am just now discovering this wonderful group! How can this be? Why don't these idiot board members stop messing up perfectly wonderful groups like these?
A fabulous rendition of a wonderful composition. It is a joy to watch the musicians at work & seemingly enjoying themselves. Top marks - quite delightful.
Great!!! For ears and eyes! Please more of you. Your have an incredible charisma and it looks like you enjoy your performance really. That's pure and true art!
Quel bonheur ! Cette oeuvre emballante est menée tambour battant par cet ensemble remarquable et les violoncellistes y mettent tout leur coeur. Bravissimo ! What happiness! This exciting work is carried out with beating pace by this remarkable ensemble and the cellists put their hearts into it. Bravissimo!
I discovered this Holberg Suite on the aircraft's classical channel while flying over the Aleutian Islands in the summer of 1997. I was returning to Fort Belvoir Virginia the US following military duty at Zama Japan at that time. This piece - flying over the Aleutians - a rebirth. At 40,000 feet, looking down over the Aleutians, can you imagine the euphoria of that moment in time? I am still in that aircraft, with this music, with that breathtaking woman on the bass cello.
elena stepanova you know that they just wanted to be kind and mark the different parts for everyone who only wants to listen to that part or maybe know what part they are listening to. No need to be rude
The lead violinists body language, especially in the first movement, somehow make all of this better. How he just gets into it so deeply is just mesmerizing.
I have played fiddle in semi pro symphony orchestras for 40 years. Performing from a standing position is so liberating, I don’t know why there aren’t more such concerts!
This piece used to be on the play list for the testing transmission for Capitol Radio in 1973 . But it was a slower version, which i prefer. I loved it so very much and i was absolutely hooked on the Capitol Radio test transmission play list!

NOOOOO!!!! I am just now discovering this wonderful group! How can this be? Why don't these idiot board members stop messing up perfectly wonderful groups like these?
Can't help but be happy and smile ear to ear when listening to this :D
A fabulous rendition of a wonderful composition. It is a joy to watch the musicians at work & seemingly enjoying themselves. Top marks - quite delightful.
Among the finest pieces of classical music performed by people that really love Grieg !
The energy they exude playing this is awe inspiring. Beautiful and makes me cry just listening to it.
wow this is unbelievably moving, thank you for uploading
An exquisite performance which I've shared with several fellow musicians. Truly inspired playing. Bravo!
An absolutely brilliant performance...thank you. I love it so much. Again, thank you.
Yes, she s inspiring, That kind of energy can t be taught
I can! It's really a great moment this concert. And I must agree - SHE is inspiring the enthusiasm for this music and this orchestra.

Fantastic job guys. Best performance of Holdberg I've heard
The lead violinists body language, especially in the first movement, somehow make all of this better. How he just gets into it so deeply is just mesmerizing.
Also 1:29
@@lou9495 Terje Tønnesen is the lead violinist, I think he was also the artistic director.
Love the lively attacks by this group. Long a fav of mine, this is Grieg at his most spirited.
A wonderful atmosphere. I just love it with all its associationsThank you.
magnifique de profondeur, avec mes larmes et ma gratitude...
Magnifique, bouleversant.
I have played fiddle in semi pro symphony orchestras for 40 years. Performing from a standing position is so liberating, I don’t know why there aren’t more such concerts!
my favorite video of this piece on RUclips
How BEAUTIFULLY played! Bravo. YES!
thank you allstate orchestra for showing my new favorite pieces
This piece used to be on the play list for the testing transmission for Capitol Radio in 1973 . But it was a slower version, which i prefer. I loved it so very much and i was absolutely hooked on the Capitol Radio test transmission play list!
Fantastisch! Much appreciation.
This Holberg is done to perfection!
Grieg's Holberg Suite ?
Perfect.
Just perfect.
BRAVISSIMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finalmente una Holberg piena di vita.
Stunning !!!! They know they are playing folk music. It's as natural as breathing. Just what Grieg intended.
What a lovely surprise and what joy listening to this. One needs to be quiet,as quiet as when one prays. Thank you again and again.
Now you are inspiring fun to be glorious in investing all that energy and 200% commitment to play something like this..bravo..encore
