Thanks for watching!
I watched this performance for the first time in the beginning of ninth grade, now i'm getting ready to graduate high school and i still look back on it and realize why i continue to play viola- something to strive to become. I am so appreciative to have crossed paths with this recording and am glad that A Far Cry has continued to flourish!
Taelor, you have touched our heart this morning - thank you for sharing that! Good luck as you continue on from high school and be sure to stay in touch -
If a man realizes he has failed- failed the souls he has known - failed them in love, fellowship, solace, sacrifice, generosity, how does he reconcile that he has heard such manifest beauty?
We live in Brno, where Janaček lived much of his life. We became acquainted with the breadth of his work during the recent festival here honoring his life and works. Searching RUclips for performances we were delighted to find this piece. Masterful, lively, rich.
lucky you.
A PS. I love to read the comment threads on these "classical" channels. Almost always highly positive and loving. Great community, worldwide! Thank you all.
This wonderful performance will quench and moisturize the dryness of the soul
I highly recommend listening to this piece when it's snowing outside!! Really beautiful!
That is very romantic...!
What a privilege to see and hear such a deeply committed and heartfelt performance of this piece. There are times when I feel- even at a live performance - that the musicians are simply ‘phoning it in,’ as it were. This is not one of those times. The energy and discipline of this group floors me; more importantly, it’s consistent. Bravo!
beauty full ..reminds me about something in my life i never had in my life
Heard this played live last evening. Found it enchanting.
What a gorgeous piece. And so beautifully performed. Thank you!
I love being able to see the musicians moving and playing. We often forget it is a physical activity!
You're so welcome! Yes, we often talk about how our gesture informs how people listen. Moving and breathing together helps us also play together and it's something we really strive for. Thanks for reaching out!
Just finished commenting on another vid how much more the song has "impact" when seeing people play it. that other song was of course was Abinoni's adagio for strings...then came to my next fav Janacek Idyll for strings lol 13:55
This is another beautiful video of musicians moving and playing. Greig's Holberg Suite: ruclips.net/video/4UZNPZyrNlM/видео.html
Immense, merveilleux !
Gorgeous performance. Janacek's music is so moving, it is great to see the violinists sway to the music.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it :)
and standing for a change. it really helps to bring out the full vibrancy of the string tone. the 1st time i heard Pachelbel’s Canon live was this way. gorgeous.
p.s. the cello can be played standing as well with the pin fully extended but you rarely see it played that way.
This has been a favorite since 1978. Just perfect. Such a stunning contrast to his later, edgier work. What a range Jancek covered.
Lovely piece. I hadn't heard a Janacek composition in this style before. The players achieved a lovely rich ensemble sound.
walshamite thank you so much! We're really glad you enjoyed it.
It's an early work. Before when he had the mistress. Some critics contend he came into his own after that experience. Dismissive. I consider this one of the loveliest works i have ever heard by any composer.
This piece was composed when he was 24 years of age. So a very young Janáček still heavily influenced by Dvořák.
Sans conductor! Amazing acoustics! Magnificent strings! Beautiful music! Brilliant ensemble! Bravi, bravi!
I played this recording for my father at his death bed. Thank you.
Bravo! Absolutely beautiful performance of this wonderful yet rarely heard masterpiece!
Desert Lens thanks so much for listening!
Simply Gorgeous....All of you! What a Rare Treat......BRAVI TUTTI from Acapulco!
Delightful piece played very beautifully. Thanks!
Thank you, James!
Beautiful
Amazing ! this music contains so much and many, and so beautiful !! am happy with ! !
4. The beginning of the theme in minor and strong dark parts reminds me of dance of the knights by Prokofiev. Some eastern european scenery, romantic stuff, some western adventure, the ending often sounds like the harsh strings and tones from grosse fugue. Eastern european scenery.. Maybe he was sitting on a train while daydreaming.
Wow.. 7 was absolutely amazing with those exotic things with DFDC# and those beautiful extremely soft pauses in B.
what an awesome rendition!
What a delightful performance. Thank you for posting!! Janacek's Idyll is great to listen to before or after Holst's Morris Dances. Many parallels between the two pieces.
Dennis Salinas thanks so much! We'll have to keep that in mind for future programming ideas.
I keep coming back every now and then to listen to the whole recording, but especially 13:50! I've heard very few things in my life as beautiful and sorrowful at the same time. Thank you for such a magnificent rendition of this piece.
I'm playing this piece right now it's so beautiful
Beautiful !!!!! Janacek - Idyll Suite for String Orchestra !!!!
Thank you!!!
Janacek, what a wonderful composer and marvellous piece this is. Many thanks that you uploaded this.
Raymond Robijns It’s a gem for sure! Glad you are enjoying it!
Coming across this piece was a bless
A stellar performance.
heard them at NWU a few years ago - their CD "Dreams and Prayers" is awesome. love the group.
Bravo!
Perfection. There's something to be said for string players to be standing instead of sitting. Perhaps more freedom of expression and movement. Tightly written. Exquisite - ethereal, pastoral? "A" material at 13:46 - 17:00 with the (muted strings?). A born-to-be composer. Thank you!
I don't know. But for some reason, I so much love the second and the fifth movements.
Preciosa ..
Que compositor !!!
Spectacular!
Thank you so much, Herb!
I like this piece I'm working on this piece on my violin
did you succeed?
Delicada Suite i magistral interpretació de Janacek . Felicitats
I love adagio
I am blown away how they do it with no conductor.
Simply beautiful!

SERGIO GERARDO VICO GIMENA thank you so much!
Magnificent strings! Beautiful music! Brilliant ensemble! Bravi, bravi!
fine playing, so it's not all hip-hop in America. Amazing!.
A great early piece of the master. Performed very nicely.
Wow. Another gem discovered! I love all kinds of Sinfoniettas, Serenades for Strings and the like.
Wonderful!!
Fantastic.
God Bless.
Thanks
Amazing piece and performance! Thanks for sharing it with the world!
:)
Thank you so much! Stay tuned, a lot more performances coming soon to the channel...
superbe travail Thanks for posting !
What a mature magnificent performance, with such wonderful tone quality. Not quite as captivating as Dvorak's or Tchaikovsky's Serenade, but wonderful music.
wonderful.. thank you:)
Cibule0 thanks for listening!
Thanks for the upload. I wasn't aware that Janacek wrote more than one suite for string orchestra until I heard this.
Always such a fresh outlook on music.

He vuelto a escucharles... Me siguen gustando. ¡ Felicidades !
@marcelotobarduran6630 -- De acuerdisimo.....BRAVI TUTTI desde Acapulco!
Bravo !!! -- I play viola in the Yucatán University camera orchestra sence 1990 and hope one day our orchestra sound a little bit like yours. awesome sound and fabulous interpretation of Janacek Idyll. and I hope our conductor add this great piece to our repertoire. Bravo!! once again guys you look and sound heavenly. I always follow your videos. And I was wondering if you have in your program a piece from Joseph Bloch called suite for string orchestra op. 6 in D Major. is a piece I've never seen performed or heard. but I was wondering if you by any chance have performed in the past. Well, my sincere congratulations to everyone of you. such good artists
This is actually good, I got linked this for my music homework
older I get more I feel Janacek
his music always sounds fresh & unique to me, even after repeated listenings.
Phantastisch!
Robocop, vielen Dank!
Genau!
not too shabby
obrigado..!
Thanks for watching, tadeu!
Great
really nice! i also play this with bass
I'm curious to know what edition this group is using? I've noticed several tonality differences from the score I own.
Hello A far cry! Bravo for this impresive performance. Are you planning to come to Spain some day? I'm working in this piece with my students and love all your videos in RUclips. It will be amazing to listen to you in person.
19:45 He feels that Cello-Solo😁
It's 13:50 for those wondering :) 17:00 started out really good but the transition 17:20 was only okay...not near great! Might be cause there is not allot of them so they dont have a big db range
I hope so thanks for your wishes , that i return to you .hapy new year with a lírical life
Why are all of them standing (those who play the violin?)? Lovely piece ♪♪♪ ☺♥
for me it is bass
Franciscomontes200312 Montes yes, it is- as they say- "all about that bass"
17:01 Eargasm ♥♥♥♥♥♥
Love it!
👍
10:27
I also love this part.
Who are these guys? This is a great hall for an orchestra
Harry Haff - thanks for reaching out! We're a far cry chamber orchestra, based in Boston, MA. If you like, you can stream many of our concerts live from Jordan Hall (it is great for sting orchestra!). The next stream is Jan. 13 at 8pm est. happy holidays to you!
13:05 REEEEEEEEEEE
this is unbelievable but since I have no knowledge about orchestras I would like to ask why they are not sitting? thank you
Βασίλης Πετρίδης , thanks so much for the question! We always stand in performance; like violaviolamh said, it allows for great communication between the players and freer movement- although sometimes more tired feet!
why no conductor?
It's usual not using a conductor in string orchestras, only when the difficulty of the piece asks for it.
seems unnecessary for a group this tight.
19:25
Wszyscy stoją a dlaczego tych troje siedzi ?
Great to listen to, but distracting to watch. The uncoordinated body movement militated against the visual ensemble, and drew attention to individuals where the music didn't need focus on them. The principal viola was particularly obtrusive.
XD
Is this piece composed by Leoš Janáček?
Yes, it's his Idyll for string orchestra. Thanks for listening!
Well played but not one of Janacek's best. Shame that the conductor missed his bus.
In the past people played music because they understood it has intrinsic merit, today they play to SELL it. This performance is a huge joke of schmaltz and sentimentality, with zero sense of the music. Not really the players fault- the world just can't do it any more, the soul of all things is under attack.
Sean, you sir, are a cad.
Are you listening to the same piece the rest of us are?
Standing draws attention away from the music to the performers.
I had the same problem but eventually figured out that it doesn't happen when I don't look at the screen.
I think the performers are just as much a part of the experience as the music is. Standing allows them to be a little more expressive and energetic, and I think this enhances the music more than it would if they were sitting.
The performers are the music.....without them there would be utter silence.
Who are these guys? This is a great hall for an orchestra
i snuck into the balcony one afternoon when it was vacant. the wood floor was so old & fragile i thought i might break it. the place seemed ancient.
