It feels very "nostalgic" for a point of time that never existed, if that makes sense. It gives the same feeling of what I imagine sitting in a snow cabin in the forest would feel like in your mind. I personally think I was born in the right generation. I mean come on, I live in a time when I can pull up any classical work I want and listen to it as much as I want, and can even rewind, forward, and pause it. That's so cool when you think about it. This may not be the kind of music most people listen to, but if you appreciate classical music, this is actually a great time to be alive. You can find pretty much any musical work you want on the Internet regardless of musical time period, composer, or ensemble type. And that's a recent thing too; a lot of you probably remember a time when that wasn't possible. This particular video hasn't even been up five years yet! I see a lot of comments about being from the wrong generation and such, but think about it...Back in the day, you wouldn't be able to just pull up your favorite piece in your own home and listen to it as much as you want. You would have to wait until a symphony near you chose to perform your favorite piece. If you truly love classical music, or any music for that matter, this is a fantastic time to be around, whether you know it or not!
Adalard Richter Obviously, but they're still dumb for: 1. Being pedantic and close-minded about their music taste. Believe it or not, there's a lot of good music in all genres, but even if you have limited music taste, don't go around acting like that makes you dtand above the other people in your generation. 2. Not realizing that the only reason they can listen to this music so easily and post their shitty comment for others to see is because they live in this time.
It really encapsulate the human condition beautifully which is why it is just as relevent now as then. Times changes, the human condition stays the same.

Winter Allegro Non Molto is my absolute favorite. It used to play in my moms house all the time while she was reading and I was rehearsing percussion and running mallet rudiments. Autumn 1 is about enjoying the harvest of crops for food and celebrating. Autumn 2 is about sleeping after the celebration as cold air blows. Autumn 3 is about hunting the next day in the autumn morning. Winter 1 is about freezing in the cold. Winter 2 about being home and warm, and Winter 3 about cold air and icey roads. All of this is written in his poems for these movements/songs. It has some struggles, but he does have a way of not making it sound depressing.
Autumn is not only my favorite season by Vivaldi, it's my favorite season all year round! I love to look at the colored leaves on the trees and on the ground after they're blown out. I also love the cool air, the sound of the wind, and watching the migration of the birds. I may have seasonal allergies, which is sad but true, but as a native Coloradan, I always love it, because it's an example of art and of God's creation.

Learned something new today. Apparently, over 400 years ago you would have to go on a long journey to an expensive concert to hear this and probably only once in your lifetime. How awesome is it to be able to listen to this.
Even worse than that. 400 years ago, 99% of the people would never hear this. Only aristocrats could afford the major sums of money to attend symphony orchestra concerts because of the high cost of feeding dozens of musicians in those days prior to the Agricultural Revolution, and while they might see something like this multiple times over their lifetime, the remainder of the peasantry was stuck with folk music they could make themselves on primitive string instruments, flute, or whistle. There's a *reason* why modern popular music is largely based upon African music rather than upon European classical music, with only a leavening of European folk music thrown in (mostly seen in genres like bluegrass that lack drums, a primary ingredient of African music that didn't exist in European folk music). European classical music simply was too expensive for the common folk to see, so they never incorporated it into popular music.
I got sober recently. I had heard Vivaldi as a kid but hearing this now through a new pair of ears, there were large pools in my eyes long before Winter arrived. And now I'm crying like a little baby, grateful to be alive, to feel human, and to have my soul back. The pictures are so beautiful and the music just breaks my heart, thank you for this beautiful video and for keeping it clean of ads.
Sober? You should listen to this on opiates or any other euphoric drug. It's much better! I got Sober for a little while, and was miserable. I am back on drugs and much happier now. I love all the seasons.
My granddaughters marching band just won a competition with this music. It really is a wonderful show. They are moving on to state competition. This music is getting out there, I'm glad that the director chose vivaldi. Children need this nowadays. It is very calming and a challenge for the kids.
And it's amazing that what Vivaldi heard is exactly what we listen today. Which can't be said about modern music, which changes every few years. And I think this is a very nice connection with our ancestors (at classical music).
@@mttpsg00 I agree, it has been 300 years which is easy to say but very hard to accomplish. You could argue that there wasn't much variety in music at that time but now we have all the different music genres in the world but I doubt they will still be popular and nice to listen to after 300 years. There's something special about classical music, we don't put hit pop songs near baby cradles but we make them listen Mozart, Chopin, Back, Vivaldi, Beethoven and many different classical composers. At the same time, we enjoy listening to those memorable pieces again and again.
My grandpa introduced me to classical music when I was still a baby. We used to blast "O Guarani" on the speakers, while my neighbor blasted Brazilian funk with such horrible words like "shake that ass like a bitc" and I like to say that it didn't have a melody just a bunch of strange sounds thrown together. I am from Brazil so it is quite hard to find someone that likes classical.
I'm happy to say that my four kids grew up listening t the Red Priest from Venice. My 39 year old soN, not particularly a classical or baroque fan, asked me to play this. We had a cassette tape which we played on every car outing - a two for one: kids are educted/entertained, and they quietly listened.
One day, I was feeling bad because of a disorder I have and I was sitting with my 85 years old great aunt. She told me, "if you want to listen to some classical music, to release your brain, to make you feel better, here are some vinyls", this day she told me a part of her story and I discovered the 4 seasons, her favourite classical music piece. Now this is also my favourite, classical music is something wonderful that we should never forget

Remember kids, if you create something truly brilliant and it is ignored by your contemporaries that doesn't mean you will be forgotten forever. Vivaldi was totally ignored by his peers and the public when he was alive. Centuries later his music was rediscovered and is now among the most popular in the world. As long as we will have western civilization his name will be remembered.
Prophet of Reason Oh well thats good to hear i guess. Just goes to show that people should never fully define their worth on the opinions of the public.
One should never allow his opinions to be decided by popular vote. And while it is frequently necessary to defer to experts on matter about one knows little, one should never do so on aesthetic matters.
While this is not an appropriate forum to debate your claim (this is a discussion of a piece of music, that has nothing to do with politics), I would ask you to consider what you said. "The Jews" are not a monolith and do not even have a central organization to which all of them belong. And I have yet to meet a Jew (I've known quite a few throughout my life) that showed the slightest interest in destroying western civilization. So the questions you should ask yourself are which specific individuals are trying to "take it all down"', why, and how do you know? I'm fairly certain that the supposed conspirators didn't confide their plans to you. Please do not respond.

This exact video changed the course of my life 6 years ago. I began playing oboe in 6th grade on a whim and while listening through classical music videos I found this one and was enamored immediately. 00:01 - Spring Allegro - 1st Movement This movement is an energetic, joyful celebration of the arrival of spring. The bright, lively music is meant to evoke images of nature waking up after winter, with birds singing, brooks babbling, and gentle breezes. 03:39 - Spring Largo - 2nd Movement The second movement is a more peaceful, serene expression of spring. It is meant to represent a sleepy goatherd with his faithful dog lying at his feet. This movement often uses slower tempos and longer note values to create a calm, dreamy atmosphere. 06:02 - Spring Allegro Pastorale - 3rd Movement The final movement of "Spring" is a festive dance music, representing a pastoral dance by shepherds and nymphs celebrating the arrival of spring. The allegro tempo and the lilting rhythm of the music creates a feeling of happiness and celebration. 10:30 - Summer Allegro - 4th Movement The first movement of "Summer" is an intense depiction of a hot, oppressive summer day. There are musical illustrations of a singing turtledove, a gentle zephyr breeze, and the harsh wind of the summer storm. 15:52 - Summer Adagio e Presto - 5th Movement This movement describes the oppressive heat and the exhaustion it brings. The music alternates between slow (Adagio) and fast (Presto) tempos, representing the calm before the storm and the storm itself respectively. 17:56 - Summer Presto - 6th Movement The final movement of "Summer" depicts a fierce summer storm with all of its dramatic, violent energy. It is a fast-paced, dynamic music full of rapid scales and arpeggios. 20:59 - Autumn Allegro - 7th Movement The first movement of "Autumn" depicts the joy of the peasant with their rich harvest and their celebratory dances and songs. It is a merry, upbeat music full of energy and high spirits. 26:21 - Autumn Adagio Molto - 8th Movement This movement represents the sleeping peasants after their celebrations. The music is slow and gentle, evoking a sense of peace and relaxation. 29:07 - Autumn Allegro - 9th Movement The final movement of "Autumn" depicts a hunt complete with horns, dogs barking, and even a gunshot. It's a more vigorous, fast-paced section to conclude the concerto. 32:48 - Winter Allegro Non Molto - 10th Movement The first movement of "Winter" represents a harsh winter storm. Despite the challenges of the cold weather, there's a sense of delight in the beauty of the snowy landscape. The music is energetic but with a slightly slower tempo (Allegro Non Molto). 36:17 - Winter Largo - 11th Movement The second movement of "Winter" depicts the peace that comes after the storm. The music is slow and gentle, suggesting images of falling snow and the quiet of a winter evening. 38:36 - Winter Allegro - 12th Movement The final movement of "Winter" is a lively representation of walking on ice, ending with the warmth of a cozy fire. It's energetic, almost dancing music, finishing the entire work on a high note.

I highly suggest you to listen to this masterpiece, while reading Vivaldi's poems. Those poems were written specifically for this piece. La Primavera (Spring) I. Allegro-- Festive Spring has arrived, The birds salute it with their happy song. And the brooks, caressed by little Zephyrs, Flow with a sweet murmur. The sky is covered with a black mantle, And thunder, and lightning, announce a storm. When they are silent, the birds Return to sing their lovely song. II. Largo e pianissimo sempre-- And in the meadow, rich with flowers, To the sweet murmur of leaves and plants, The goatherd sleeps, with his faithful dog at his side. III. Danza pastorale. Allegro-- To the festive sound of pastoral bagpipes, Dance nymphs and shepherds, At Spring's brilliant appearance. L'Estate (Summer) Opus 8, No. 2, in G minor I. Allegro non molto-- Under the heat of the burning summer sun, Languish man and flock; the pine is parched. The cuckoo finds its voice, and suddenly, The turtledove and goldfinch sing. A gentle breeze blows, But suddenly, the north wind appears. The shepherd weeps because, overhead, Lies the fierce storm, and his destiny. II. Adagio; Presto-- His tired limbs are deprived of rest By his fear of lightning and fierce thunder, And by furious swarms of flies and hornets. III. Presto-- Alas, how just are his fears, Thunder and lightening fill the Heavens, and the hail Slices the tops of the corn and other grain. L'Autunno (Autumn) Opus 8, No. 3, in F Major I. Allegro-- The peasants celebrate with dance and song, The joy of a rich harvest. And, full of Bacchus's liquor, They finish their celebration with sleep. II. Adagio molto-- Each peasant ceases his dance and song. The mild air gives pleasure, And the season invites many To enjoy a sweet slumber. III. Allegro-- The hunters, at the break of dawn, go to the hunt. With horns, guns, and dogs they are off, The beast flees, and they follow its trail. Already fearful and exhausted by the great noise, Of guns and dogs, and wounded, The exhausted beast tries to flee, but dies. L'Inverno (Winter) Opus 8, No. 4, in F minor I. Allegro non molto-- Frozen and trembling in the icy snow, In the severe blast of the horrible wind, As we run, we constantly stamp our feet, And our teeth chatter in the cold. II. Largo-- To spend happy and quiet days near the fire, While, outside, the rain soaks hundreds. III. Allegro-- We walk on the ice with slow steps, And tread carefully, for fear of falling. Symphony, If we go quickly, we slip and fall to the ground. Again we run on the ice, Until it cracks and opens. We hear, from closed doors, Sirocco, Boreas, and all the winds in battle. This is winter, but it brings joy.
Hey, thanks, I decided to listen while reading these poems in your comment and it really helped to understand what was being conveyed in the music to a first time listener. I really liked it (the poems and the composition)!
When I was a kid I thought that people listening to this are stuck in time. Im in my 20s and i realise, that this is the best music you can listen, because there are no singing voices, no bs entering your mind. Just you and your thoughts. I love how Vivaldi portrays winter. It is violent and harsh, but also beautiful and calming
It feels very "nostalgic" for a point of time that never existed, if that makes sense. It gives the same feeling of what I imagine sitting in a snow cabin in the forest would feel like in your mind. Not actually doing this irl, but imagining it in your mind. Bc real life is not as glorious as in someone's mind
@@user-tw1pm6nr5e i disagree. i understand what u are trying to say, that in real life you have to really deal with the negatives of bad weather/season or whatever, but that doesnt mean that u cant enjoy it. sitting in a snow cabin in real life is much more magical than u could ever imagine. or being in a storm. theres nothing more humbling than seing those powers of nature work around you. thats what makes it so beautiful.
Yes, beautiful! Yes, calming to whoever needs it! Yet no, Vivaldi does not portray Winter as violent and harsh, only icy and cold!

If we call today's music 'music,' this should be considered a revolution in creativity, blending genres and breaking traditional boundaries.

I personally think I was born in the right generation. I mean come on, I
live in a time when I can pull up any classical work I want and listen
to it as much as I want, and can even rewind, forward, and pause it.
That's so cool when you think about it. This may not be the kind of
music most people listen to, but if you appreciate classical music, this
is actually a great time to be alive. You can find pretty much any
musical work you want on the Internet regardless of musical time period,
composer, or ensemble type. And that's a recent thing too; a lot of you
probably remember a time when that wasn't possible. This particular
video hasn't even been up five years yet! I see a lot of comments about
being from the wrong generation and such, but think about it...Back in
the day, you wouldn't be able to just pull up your favorite piece in
your own home and listen to it as much as you want. You would have to
wait until a symphony near you chose to perform your favorite piece. If
you truly love classical music, or any music for that matter, this is a
fantastic time to be around, whether you know it or not!

I've never thought of autumn and winter as depressing tbh
Autumn comes with a fanfare of colour and that section opens with a fanfare I find it really fitting.
Learned something new today. Apparently, over 400 years ago you would have to go on a long journey to an expensive concert to hear this and probably only once in your lifetime. How awesome is it to be able to listen to this.
We are some of the ppl using the amazing tech we have today to hear human emotions brilliantly represented in music. Not just Vivaldi, but so many.
Today we can live like the kings of old....
I dunno about 'only once in your lifetime', but good perspective.

@@mttpsg00 I agree, it has been 300 years which is easy to say but very hard to accomplish. You could argue that there wasn't much variety in music at that time but now we have all the different music genres in the world but I doubt they will still be popular and nice to listen to after 300 years.
And while it is frequently necessary to defer to experts on matter about one knows little, one should never do so on aesthetic matters.
but the jews are about to take it all down
bob bot modernity....nuke it from orbit
I’m a professional gardener. I see the composers thoughts through each season. This music relates so much to my day to day life. I’m so happy I finally took the time to listen to it.
This exact video changed the course of my life 6 years ago. I began playing oboe in 6th grade on a whim and while listening through classical music videos I found this one and was enamored immediately. I began a Wikipedia rabbit hole and fell in love with classical music (especially 18th century) and period performance, and I decided to pursue music. At the end of the month I will start classes at one of the greatest music schools, Eastman, for a bachelor’s in music performance and I will continue learning baroque oboe there. I can’t imagine life without the four seasons, thanks!
Best of luck to you in your studies! What a great city to go to school in. Lots of festivals and things to do and so close to the lake. Have a blast and practice hard.
Aw man that's amazing!
that is quite the tale, I wish you well!

Amazingly, I had never heard of Vivaldi or Four Seasons until I was 41 years old. I attended a performance at a small college chapel and felt transported to another world. It was sublime.

00:01 - Spring Allegro - 1st Movement
This movement is an energetic, joyful celebration of the arrival of spring. The bright, lively music is meant to evoke images of nature waking up after winter, with birds singing, brooks babbling, and gentle breezes.
03:39 - Spring Largo - 2nd Movement
The second movement is a more peaceful, serene expression of spring. It is meant to represent a sleepy goatherd with his faithful dog lying at his feet. This movement often uses slower tempos and longer note values to create a calm, dreamy atmosphere.
06:02 - Spring Allegro Pastorale - 3rd Movement
The final movement of "Spring" is a festive dance music, representing a pastoral dance by shepherds and nymphs celebrating the arrival of spring. The allegro tempo and the lilting rhythm of the music creates a feeling of happiness and celebration.
10:30 - Summer Allegro - 4th Movement
The first movement of "Summer" is an intense depiction of a hot, oppressive summer day. There are musical illustrations of a singing turtledove, a gentle zephyr breeze, and the harsh wind of the summer storm.
15:52 - Summer Adagio e Presto - 5th Movement
This movement describes the oppressive heat and the exhaustion it brings. The music alternates between slow (Adagio) and fast (Presto) tempos, representing the calm before the storm and the storm itself respectively.
17:56 - Summer Presto - 6th Movement
The final movement of "Summer" depicts a fierce summer storm with all of its dramatic, violent energy. It is a fast-paced, dynamic music full of rapid scales and arpeggios.
20:59 - Autumn Allegro - 7th Movement
The first movement of "Autumn" depicts the joy of the peasant with their rich harvest and their celebratory dances and songs. It is a merry, upbeat music full of energy and high spirits.
26:21 - Autumn Adagio Molto - 8th Movement
This movement represents the sleeping peasants after their celebrations. The music is slow and gentle, evoking a sense of peace and relaxation.
29:07 - Autumn Allegro - 9th Movement
The final movement of "Autumn" depicts a hunt complete with horns, dogs barking, and even a gunshot. It's a more vigorous, fast-paced section to conclude the concerto.
32:48 - Winter Allegro Non Molto - 10th Movement
The first movement of "Winter" represents a harsh winter storm. Despite the challenges of the cold weather, there's a sense of delight in the beauty of the snowy landscape. The music is energetic but with a slightly slower tempo (Allegro Non Molto).
36:17 - Winter Largo - 11th Movement
The second movement of "Winter" depicts the peace that comes after the storm. The music is slow and gentle, suggesting images of falling snow and the quiet of a winter evening.
38:36 - Winter Allegro - 12th Movement
The final movement of "Winter" is a lively representation of walking on ice, ending with the warmth of a cozy fire. It's energetic, almost dancing music, finishing the entire work on a high note.
Amazing, thanks!
"Is meant to"? It does that, but meant to? How do we know this? Did the composer share this? I only seek to understand.

I highly suggest you to listen to this masterpiece, while reading Vivaldi's poems. Those poems were written specifically for this piece.
La Primavera (Spring)
I. Allegro--
Festive Spring has arrived,
The birds salute it with their happy song.
And the brooks, caressed by little Zephyrs,
Flow with a sweet murmur.
The sky is covered with a black mantle,
And thunder, and lightning, announce a storm.
When they are silent, the birds
Return to sing their lovely song.
II. Largo e pianissimo sempre--
And in the meadow, rich with flowers,
To the sweet murmur of leaves and plants,
The goatherd sleeps, with his faithful dog at his side.
III. Danza pastorale. Allegro--
To the festive sound of pastoral bagpipes,
Dance nymphs and shepherds,
At Spring's brilliant appearance.
L'Estate (Summer)
Opus 8, No. 2, in G minor
I. Allegro non molto--
Under the heat of the burning summer sun,
Languish man and flock; the pine is parched.
The cuckoo finds its voice, and suddenly,
The turtledove and goldfinch sing.
A gentle breeze blows,
But suddenly, the north wind appears.
The shepherd weeps because, overhead,
Lies the fierce storm, and his destiny.
II. Adagio; Presto--
His tired limbs are deprived of rest
By his fear of lightning and fierce thunder,
And by furious swarms of flies and hornets.
III. Presto--
Alas, how just are his fears,
Thunder and lightening fill the Heavens, and the hail
Slices the tops of the corn and other grain.
L'Autunno (Autumn)
Opus 8, No. 3, in F Major
I. Allegro--
The peasants celebrate with dance and song,
The joy of a rich harvest.
And, full of Bacchus's liquor,
They finish their celebration with sleep.
II. Adagio molto--
Each peasant ceases his dance and song.
The mild air gives pleasure,
And the season invites many
To enjoy a sweet slumber.
III. Allegro--
The hunters, at the break of dawn, go to the hunt.
With horns, guns, and dogs they are off,
The beast flees, and they follow its trail.
Already fearful and exhausted by the great noise,
Of guns and dogs, and wounded,
The exhausted beast tries to flee, but dies.
L'Inverno (Winter)
Opus 8, No. 4, in F minor
I. Allegro non molto--
Frozen and trembling in the icy snow,
In the severe blast of the horrible wind,
As we run, we constantly stamp our feet,
And our teeth chatter in the cold.
II. Largo--
To spend happy and quiet days near the fire,
While, outside, the rain soaks hundreds.
III. Allegro--
We walk on the ice with slow steps,
And tread carefully, for fear of falling.
Symphony, If we go quickly, we slip and fall to the ground.
Again we run on the ice,
Until it cracks and opens.
We hear, from closed doors,
Sirocco, Boreas, and all the winds in battle.
This is winter, but it brings joy.
guess there's just no time for homework now

When I was a kid I thought that people listening to this are stuck in time. Im in my 20s and i realise, that this is the best music you can listen, because there are no singing voices, no bs entering your mind. Just you and your thoughts. You become what you see and what you hear, thats why you can indentify people by the music that they are listening to. How do you want to identify someone who is listening to this. Nobody can possibly know what is in your head. A big strategical andvantage.
This music was made around 300 years ago. And it still sounds better than most music of 2015.

I'm a total metalhead, but anybody who can't appreciate the beauty of classical music is a cretin, pure and simple. If you listen to the great artists of the genre and aren't moved, then you must have ice flowing through your veins.
Vivaldi would have absolutely been a metal head if he were alive today. his style is as close to thrash metal as you can get with a powdered wig on 🤘
