It is a delight to listen to Grieg's Holberg Suite. I had it in mind when I got out of bed this morning. I do have it on a few CDs but wished to watch it performed. It is absolutely gorgeous! I have so many beautiful memories attached to it. One in particular is of walking in deep snow in Somerset years ago and returning home to an open fire and my beloved. I shall never tire of this wonderful piece of music. For me it will always be associated with winter and the magic of a snow covered landscape and of being in love.
Hello from Australia. I've been listening to this actual piece for many years on RUclips (Netherlands Chamber Orchestra) and rate it as one of the most beautiful expressions of Holberg's suite I've ever heard. I never tire from listening to it. Many many thanks.
I fully agree. This is an excellent performance of this tenderly beautiful piece of music. Watching the facial expressions of the musicians as they go through the ups and downs of the emotional spectrum is pure delight. Greetings from San Jose, California.
Thanks Javad - it is indeed a beautiful piece by the playing and their physical embodiment of it. I visited the state of California a few years ago and embraced the state on our travels. Much to see with much contrast with peoples lives. But loved it nevertheless.
I am so greatful I go to experience playing this piece in the Vienna Golden Hall, one of the most important and famous concert halls in history, I will forever cherish the moment of playing in the hall.
I have just had the honor of being able to play this piece at the world renowned stage known as Carnegie Hall in New York. Im so blessed to have gotten to work with such a talented ensemble and conductor on that beautiful stage!

I miss Scandinavia! By corona! So I listen to this Grieg. You can not say that one instrument is more difficult than another.. I am a prof. fluteplayer myself and it depends of so many, many facts why somewhone is more capable of playing an instrument than another and warms the heart. It 's far more than only technic and many years of hard studying. I like this group without conductor...and see the beautiful nature of Norway while I am listening...Greetings from the Netherlands to everybody!
Que pieza más hermosa, música sublime y que me levanta el ánimo con un toque de nostalgia. Mi padre murió hace 3 semanas y me enseñó a amar a Grieg, escuchar esta belleza me llena de una dulce tristeza... 🥺😪
Of all the people making these comments very few are actually crediting this amazing composer Grieg. This is possibly his finest piece of work along with his excellent " Peer Gynt Suite" Just my opinion...
Nobody discredited him; the cameraman was just disliked, lol. There's a reason why people are on RUclips for this song and not going to Amazon music or spotify, haha.
Thank you for this! The absolute best performance of this work I have ever seen! I will listen to it till the end of my days. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
This is the best recording of a classical piece I've ever heard and its not even close. The unified tone, and character, each musician's musical sensitivity. The Air is the most beautiful thing I've heard. It tugs and pulls at my heart in ways I didn't know were possible. Thank you all for this magnificent performance.
I'm playing this with the orchestra in a months time. I've never heard this work before, and wow, it is just WOW. It is now part of my playlist for listening pleasure as well!!! This is an amazing work!!!
I've listened/watched this piece so many times now. The delivery by these excellent musicians is so joy filled and richly rendered. Such a treat. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Love this. Love how the musicians listen to each other so intensely and intuitively respond as one. Behold the unifying power of making music together. Bravi ❤
The principal first violin is usually called the leader. In the UK, the conductor directs the ensemble and the leader helps the conductor with running the orchestra (a sort of second in charge). I play viola in an amateur orchestra and that certainly is my experience.
My complaint, really, is about the videotaping. Look at the first movement when the violists have all the excitement, and what do you see? Violins waiting to start playing again, and not a single violist in sight! Even on the interesting pizz in that movement, what do you see? My first reaction, and 5th, and 10th, etc...was that this is how school concerts are filmed when the parent has a child in the orchestra...here the child must play violin....because, basically, that is what you see.
Put on your headphones, close your eyes and listen. Let the music lift you up and take you away. This music was not written to look at, but to listen to. Relax and enjoy.
Once upon a time in a quiet, peaceful town lived a young boy named Rohan. Rohan was an energetic and expressive child who sometimes had a hard time managing his emotions. His parents were always patient and kind, helping him navigate his feelings. One sunny day, Rohan was asked to complete some chores. Rohan was not happy about this. He complained, "I do not want to do my chores. They are boring!" Rohan's father heard his complaint and felt a little annoyed. He replied, "Rohan, chores are part of our family responsibilities. We all do them." But Rohan's mood had not improved. He yelled, "No! I do not want to!" and stamped his feet hard on the ground. His father, surprised by his son's outburst, said in a stern voice, "Rohan, go to your room. I do not appreciate your yelling and stamping." Rohan did not like that at all. He was upset and disappointed. He was looking forward to a treat that month - a trip to the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm to meet the baby reindeer. But his dad said, "Rohan, if you cannot control your anger, we will not be able to go to Leavenworth Reindeer Farm." This saddened Rohan, and he quietly went to his room. Later, Rohan's mother, came to talk to him. She reminded him gently, "Remember how Ms. Raymer and Ms. Malek felt at school when you stamped your feet and shouted? They were also annoyed, and you did not get cake that day." Rohan remembered that day. He loved cake, and he had not been able to have any because of his behavior. Now, he post his trip to Leavenworth Reindeer Farm to meet the baby reindeer, too. He will not see Erika, Hans, and Kari. Rohan felt very sad that he would miss out on seeing baby reindeer, Erika, Hans, and Kari. Rohan felt bad for his actions. He looked at his mother and said, "I'm sorry, Mother. I do not want to make people upset. I do not want to miss out on the fun things." His mother hugged him tightly and said, "We all make mistakes, Rohan. The important part is learning from them." From that day, Rohan started trying harder to control his emotions. He reminded himself that shouting and stamping his feet did not make things better - in fact, it often made things worse. It was not easy, but with his parents' support, Rohan learned that he could express his feelings in a more respectful way, and life felt a little easier for him. This was a big step for Rohan. He understood that his actions could have consequences, and he wanted to make better choices. So, Rohan made a promise to himself, "Next time, I will do better. I will meet Santa and his reindeer at Leavenworth Reindeer Farm on my birthday. I will handle my anger differently." And so, Rohan's journey towards managing his emotions better had begun. He knew it would not always be easy, but he was ready to try. And, in doing so, Rohan began to see a world full of opportunities for fun, laughter, and yes, plenty of Leavenworth Reindeer Farm visits. Questions 1. Why did Rohan's father ask him to go to his room? Because he said in a stern voice 2. How did Rohan feel when he realized he will not be able to go to Leavenworth Reindeer Farm to meet the baby reindeer because of his bad behavior? Annoyed 3. What resolution did Rohan make after understanding the consequences of his actions? Rohan will meet Santa and his reindeer at Leavenworth Reindeer Farm on his birthday and he will do better next time.

It's funny how you never notice how long a piece is when you're the one playing it. When you are, everything is so short.
True true. That confirms to me that it's more fun to play than to listen.
Try playing trombone or tuba. If you are tacet during any of the movements, it is actually longer.
That's a cool observation 😎!!°

A joy from beginning to end.

And the priniple violist is really cute.

Sounds like a master Mozart would compose if he had lived few more years! Amazing!

How come that it took me so long to realise that this masterpiece is composed by Grieg? How?

Really beautiful dances in honor to the writer Ludvig Holberg , in the same style of the "ancient dances "of Ottorino Respighi .
Woonde ik maar in Amsterdam, dan had ik een abonnement op het concertgebouw. De parel van beschaving.
Grieg is underrated, as is Handel.
