      Bonjour,
      Cordialement.

This is Okuri Eri Jime (sliding collar choke), the first choke I learned at age 13 (I started Judo at age 10). Okui Eri Jime is no more dangerous than any other Judo choke. See Black Belt Magazine 1970: How Dangerous are Judo Chokes?. We also had standing chokes in my tournament days (1970s). We couldn't do chokes until age 13 and no arm bars until age 16 or Sankyu level.

Every time a part of your hand, wrist or forearm is pressing the trachea exist a dangerous possibility of damaging(breacking the windpipe.

If you’re using two hands it’s okuri eri jime. If you’re only using one hand on the collar, like in the koshi jime variant it’s kata te jime.
It can get confusing cuz sometimes there’s common names or nicknames for techniques in judo that are different from the official kodokan names.

I can't see that hand choke working live while the guy is fighting. But I do love the idea of getting the lapel choke during the takedown. I'm going to work on that.

Have to disappoint you, my teacher made me tap from that hundreds of times during sparring. Dude was a savage at chokes especially. Not just the official technique, but also the dirty tricks associated with them, such as not clipping the fingernail of your thumb, and use that to gouge the neck to create pain and thus space to set the hand deeper.

This was a hustle, a trick. If a referee saw that, it would have been punished (or should have).

I thought this was a topic you covered before. Now that the cats out of the bag with this sub does this tarnish his record? Or was this legal in judo when he was competing?

Why do they not use zinc oxid tape on their faces to prevent friction burns and to tape toes so they dont get broken?

I mean the choke is possible to use. But in a practical sense I can’t see the thumb not slipping with a resisting opponent. And also I be a tad concerned about the possibility of my thumb being hyperextended if going live as well.

Youd need a very strong grip for that, its not practical and opponent could easily pull your thumb away

Hi,is choking from behind allowed in judo?

    • @CervusGreen
      @CervusGreen 5 дней назад

If I understand your question right: yes. Most judo strangulation techniques take place with the attacker behind the defender.

Detail I was taught, instead of tucking your thumb in and making a fist leave the thumb extended along the inside of the lapel so it's actually the back of your thumb which applies the pressure.
Obviously you only do this when deep enough so they can't grab thumb
