A perfect balance between tachi waza and ne waza should be the goal.

    Chadi awesome research.
This video truly demonstrates how, BJJ is repackaged judo.
I wish there was an authentic traditional judo school out where I live in the Greensboro tri- state area. I will be purchasing your book. Thanks for your knowledge, research and time.
    💪🏾

Great video as ever, BUT- “attacking can mean snapping someone down”…
Sure, but given judo rule bureaucracy, you can be sure that if you snapped someone down the way the experts at that technique do, ie wrestlers, the IJF politburo would find a way of saying hansoku make.

Wonderful! As I told you years ago, you are an essential part of the history of judo. You have made your imprint in the art. Also, happy to see you feature a female. Very few women on the channel. This was excellent!

I second that. Have been a subscriber since the start. Chadi has made a huge imprint with this channel. Wish I could still be a patreon/member.

I think Hamada is also from a Sambo background if I’m correct - so a very good balance between throwing and submission. Her sumigaeshi into udegarami is masterful

Love your channel!! Happy New Year!
REQUEST: can you speak to the usage of the terms “obe-tori gaeshi” and “hikkikomi”? It appears the Kodokan is emphatic that they are not the same, and based on their videos, obe-tori gaeshi is a standing technique, and not a sutemi waza as it appears to be taught in judo circles today. Hikkikomi gaeshi appears to be the suremi waza but a lot of judoka don’t know this name.
Hoping you can help clarify why this is.

hikkikomi is more similar to tomoe-nage, while obi-tori-gaeshi is totally different, its concept is more like a front ura-nage but with an over the back grip on the belt and another on the opposite leg. so obi-tori-gaeshi is really unique, totally different from hikkikomi-gaeshi

    • @anton8267
      @anton8267 4 дня назад

Hikikomi is pulling guard, classic move to enter newaza quickly. Obi Tori Gaeshi is more like Sumi Gaeshi but by pulling down the uke down by holding the Obi. To successfully go with Obi Tori Gaeshi, you must put extra strength on top of Uke Spine, so he will go down following your Sumi Gaeshi move.

Damn now you got me in a rabbit hole of Hamada. I like how she snaps down to go for the kimura gaeshi. It’s hard to get it with the guy standing. Gonna try this now

Did the Japanese women’s team not put a far greater focus on ground fighting in recent years to great success? There are videos of Yuki Nakai(BJJ/MMA) and Uta Abe rolling together. The style shown in this video is so slick and strategic and not so reliant on strength or explosiveness.

Chadi, have you gone against an opponent that is excellent at strangulations during tachi waza ?
