    No back of the head shots
    Pure slugfest. Pure class. 💪👌✊
    Lucky were those who witnessed this incredible brawl live in arena. 😊
    These two fights remind me the dual between Vernon Forest & Sugar Shane Mosley. Vernon was quite unkonwn while Mosley was the belt holder. He provided that golden opportunity to Vernon but sadly lost the belt.
    Vernon gave Mosley a chance to vengeance but Mosley again lost. I still pity it.
    RIP Sanchez. Love from Pakistan ❤

      Good post. Both Forrest and Mosley also showed great respect for each other. No trash talking. Similar to Sanchez-Lopez, Mosley actually fought better in the rematch, but he just couldn't overcome Forrest's style. Vernon's timing of hitting Shane coming in was like no one had ever done before. Shame Vernon died so young.
      For clarity, Vernon wasn't truly unknown at their first fight, just an underdog. In fact, he had a win over Shane in the Olympic trials as an amateur.

    Sanchez had it all. And by age 23 he had defeated all the best fighters of his era including Puerto Rico’s greatest ever fighter Wilfredo Gomez. In those days no self-respecting champion refused to fight the top competitors, unlike the “Mexican face of boxing” today. Chavez was only about three years younger than Sanchez. It’s a pity that Sanchez died so young so that the two greatest Mexican boxers never faced each other.

      @C.STRIKER-yo7zg 4 месяца назад +16

      I totally agree Mate. In the 70s and 80s fighters were of a different breed. Especially Mexican fighters. Those fighters didn’t have rehydration clauses, duck dangerous rivals, have the luxury of picking and choosing from the bottom of the barrel opponents they knew they could beat, and most importantly relinquish their hard earned title belt just to avoid a legitimate opponent who could possibly beat them. Canelo Alvarez is THE ONLY Mexican fighter in the history of the sport to voluntarily give up his title belt rather than face his mandatory which was a prime Gennady Golovkin. The version that destroyed David Lemeiux and had the entire middleweight division running for cover. He holds that disgraceful distinction. As for Salvador Sanchez, he was one for the Ages and a proper representation of what a champion was made of by any metric.

    López’s final record was 42-6 with 39 KOs. I would’ve been in a wheelchair for life after the fights with Sanchez. Lopez retired after the second Sanchez fight, went back to Los Angeles, where he worked as a construction worker. Still living there with his wife and family.

    He and Monzon are two guys who, in the states, come to mind as fighters who aren't recognized, outside boxing circles that is, commensurate with their talent. Both unfortunately died too young in car wrecks, one even younger than the other.
    Keep in mind... the last full year Sanchez ever saw was his TWENTY-THIRDI!!!! Most guys are just starting a career at this point, and some haven't even touched boxing gloves at that age.

      @@JamesBlue-v4d That isn't what I saw. There was the build up to the first Lopez fight, then they showed how Sanchez kept active during the year in between their first and second fight.
      They then showed the second fight, which was even more impressive to me, as Lopez knew what to expect and still couldn't do anything about Sanchez's constant movement and punches. And Sanchez was a few inches from putting Lopez on his butt in the second fight.
      Then they showed what could have been an even more impressive fight when Sanchez defeated Wilfredo Gomez, the WBC champ, who was undefeated with 33 wins and 32 knockouts. And he beat him easily.
      So, for me, this was about more than one fight. The second Lopez fight was impressive, and the Gomez fight maybe more so.
