    Man... I recently made the jump from a Spektrum DX8 to this TX16S. I have been flying long enough now to know how limited I was with Spektrum, but was TOTALLY overwhelmed with this radio and OpenTX when I first turned it on. Was actually beginning to regret my purchase...
    THANK YOU SO MUCH for the great series of videos on this topic. They are clear and in-depth, while still moving at a good pace. I am happy to say that I have almost all of my models moved over and am really enjoying OpenTX. The TX16S is also an amazing piece of hardware.

      Your comment just made my day. It takes a lot of time and effort to put this material together and when I hear it helped someone center, get focused, and work through the complex problem that is OpenTx for new users it makes the effort worthwhile.
      Thanks for taking the time to write and share your experience. I'm very happy to know this material has helped you get your arms around this amazing platform.

      @@aaronstrom16 Gimbals are good, maybe a shade below DX Spektrum, but not enough to be an issue for me and I consider myself a decent RC pilot. I would recommend getting the TX16S with Hall sensors, as I hear that DOES make a difference.

    I'm just like to say thank you very much for all of your videos/playlists, particularly the ones regarding open tx on the radiomaster TX16S. I have recently bought a TX16S, and although open tx is relatively straight forward to work with once you understand how it works, it is nevertheless quite daunting to someone in the beginning. The only experience i had with a transmitter previously was a Flysky i6, as I'm sure you are aware the jump between the two is incredible. Your videos have helped to comfortably understand open tx in a revy short space of time, of course im still by no means an expert, but i am now feeling reasonably competent. Not to mention also enjoying the experience so so much! Your videos are very straightforward, informative and the information is fed to the viewer in a brilliantly understandable fashion. I can't thank you enough, please keep doing what you are doing. There are so many people out there I'm sure that have been able to have a lot fun within the hobby thanks to you efforts. Very kind regards, Arron. (From England)

      You'll be able to find a LOT of information out there on OpenTx. While the TX16s is relatively new, I had no problem adapting to the interface. So if you get stuck, you can always look at how to do something on Taranis for which there are countless sources and those how-to's will easily translate to the TX16s.
      Hopefully my video will help you with the big bits so you can get your models up and running.

    Excellent tutorial for the initial setup of this radio. Never used OpenTX, so will stay tuned for more, especially using the global function. Unaware of using the global function vs model copy function when adding new models. I’m particularly interested in assigning voice alerts to certain switches to standardize my radio without going through a new setup and having to reprogram, and likely forgetting to address something. I learned something new today....Thanks!

      @@RCVideoReviews I know your mostly a plane/drone channel, but I wish you would consider doing a similar setup video for the TX16s and a CP Helicopter like OMP M2 (which is just about the hottest heli to hit the market in some time) or XK K110 that just has a basic setup for collective pitch. Your methodical style comes across really understandable to those of us who are newer to rc flight and it is really appreciated. Maybe a colab with one of the heli guys on YT could work if you aren't too familiar with the heli stuff? thank you. someone did a radiomaster video without implying drone use only. me and a friend did a few reliability tests with this radio.
    we have 3 planes. a timber x, fms suprez trainer and an escapade 60 size. the fms has a flysky rx in it. the timber has an X8R so does the escapade. we flew all day with the flysky rx and got great range. we did 2 batteries on the timber x and on the second flight there was a total radio out for 2 seconds only 200 feet out. the escapade flew on a different radio with xjt module and also had a radio out. we also tested 2 sfhss futaba receivers and they performed nicely so far. idk what it is with our field and FRSKY but that is not god to be having these glitches. form what im gathering you should ditch the jumper and go for radio master all day

    For us old farts of the lower intellectual orders these videos are a godsend. Even little things like how to reverse the servos can stump even our Junior Brains Trust. Only 1 suggestion I could make is, if you are adding text info to the videos, could you add it to the top rather than the bottom of the screen. At the bottom it gets partially obscured by the task bar when we have to pause to catch up. :)

    I just purchased the TX16S and I really appreciate your videos, the information save me a lot of time, but isn't there all way a but!! I program my first plane and a couple of the control surfaces were reversed. I ran the video a couple of time and nothing was talk about how to reverse the servos. In the user manual in the INPUT page under WEIGHT it said put in a negative value and the servo will reverse, but not on the input page do it on the output page where you have to reverse a small arrow to reverse a servo. a learning curve I do like the transmitter. I also would like to active the sound like your radio have not found that yet.

      I don't have access to an FMS gyro, but what I've found on the web says to connect the channel controlled by a 3pos switch to the port labeled SBUS/PPM. So you should only have to put a 3 position switch on any mixer line--i.e. Mix Line 5. Set the source to a 3 position switch. Label it mode, then connect channel 5 from your receiver to the SBUS/PPM port on the FMS gyro.
      I'm always happy to receive donations, but it's never a requirement to get help. If you're moved to do it, the easiest one-time method is via the Paypal link at the bottom of this page: rcvideoreviews.com/

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  4 года назад

      If your flaps are connected via a Y-Cable and only take one channel on your receiver, then it's just one channel. Most planes should only have one channel for flaps. It would take a pretty special use case to use two channels for flaps I think (maybe glider flyers).
      Default Channel order is whatever you want it to be. In OpenTx land we don't really care that much about things like channel order. I think that is used so when you create a new model the software knows your preference for what surface to put on what channel.
      i.e. If you have AETR and create a new model, the software will do this:
      A=Ch1
      E=Ch2
      T=Ch3
      R=Ch4
      If you have RTEA and create a new model, the software will do this:
      R=Ch1
      T=Ch2
      E=Ch3
      A=Ch4
      I've always used AETR but it really doesn't matter.

    what makes different?

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Год назад

      The 4-in-1 uses a module that enables binding with many existing RF technologies like D16, DSM, AFHDS2A etc.
      ELRS uses LORA modulation and will only bind with ELRS receivers; however, that list of receivers is impressive and since it is opensource, the development cycle is continuous. ELRS has also proven to be rock solid control.
      There are use cases for both, it kind of depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

      Search the channel for videos about the mixer. Bottom line, each line in the mixer represents an output channel. So if you don't want your ailerons (or flaps) on a "Y", you have to connect them individually to a pin on the RX. That pin must have a corresponding mixer entry usually defined by an aileron input on EdgeTX. Keep watching my videos, I've covered this type of question dozens of times. Look for videos that talk about inputs, mixes, and outputs.

      I agree. I'm impressed at the price point on this bad boy. I'm looking at Rx options next. My universe of hardware just opened up a little.

    How can I put in reverse thrust on my radio master tx16

    Hey RC Video Reviews! I gotta ask, if the non hall sensor gimbal radiomaster will support touchscreen out of the box? Or does it need to have firmware update.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 года назад

      The non-hall radios do not have touchscreens. So you'll need to change the display if you want that feature.

    Some pylon racers had only 1 aileron since all turns were in the same direction.

      AHHH. Well, that's the best explanation I've heard so far. Thanks for sharing.

    I would like to watch a video about the advantages an "open" RC system,( Frsky, Radiomaster, etc) gives an electric powered scale model flier (me) over and above "closed" systems like Spectrum and Futaba. My Hitec Aurora 9/Optima receivers give in-flight motor battery readouts on the touch screen without telemetry devices but system is out of production.

      I don't know if there's enough to do a video on this, but I can give you a few keys:
      1) OpenTx is Opensource software which means the hardware manufacturers don't bear development costs which they bake into hardware costs which they charge consumers.
      2) Look into options like iNav Telemetry LUA and Yapuu. I don't think you'll ever see capabilities like that in a closed system.
      3) Global Functions, Special Functions, Logical Switches, Instant Trim are all excellent OpenTx features. I've not seen these capabilities on closed systems.
      4) OpenTx supports the Multiprotocol module so any radio with internal or external MPM can bind to a large number of mainstream receivers.
      5) Development cycle is rapid and public. You can see the bugs, milestones, and engage directly with the developers. Absolutely not possible on closed systems.
      6) Portable - OpenTx is showing up on more and more radios these days. Through the use of the Companion desktop software, your model configurations become quite portable amongst radios. This makes it easy to migrate when the next "must have" radio shows up.
      7) Companion - No closed system has anything like it.
      8) Amber Sound Pack - Simply the best.
      Maybe this would be a good video...

      @@RCVideoReviews So, cheaper initial price and cheaper receivers, more flexibility in switch assignments, lots of telemetry available, can bind to various brands of receivers, all if you are willing to adapt and learn some new technology and PC linked setup and maintenance procedures. Some cons in system quality and possible range issues.

    Hi thanks for this.
    Very new and a little overwhelming.
    I'm wondering I have no H switch listed in model setup. The switch also returns to the downward position.
    I bought the unit second hand.
    Is it likely damaged ?
    Any suggestions welcome thank you.

      I move my momentary switch to the left side of my radios. The stock radio has a momentary switch on the right.

      @@RCVideoReviews thank you.. now I'm having trouble if I set up a new model with throttle on channel 3, it is turning up on channel 2. So I move what should be elevated on the right side and it's showing throttle on the monitor. Hence giving me a throttle warning when I turn on as the right stick is central..
      Ideas ? Pretty difficult with no model club it anyone else at all to chat with... 🤔

    Ok now a question for you: my 35% planes have 2 servos for aileron per wing panel. Radio doesn't give me the option for this type of setup. And I cannot link 2 servos with extension because it does need some fine tuning in order to function properly. Ideas?

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  4 года назад +1

      Sure you can, you can set four channels using the aileron input. Two going one direction. Two going the other. Set channels 1, 2, 3, and 4 as ailerons using aileron input. Go to outputs add all four aileron channels then reverse two of them. it works. I have that same setup on my Smoove for the two elevator servos.

    I have no plane setup in the wizard, only glider. I have the script on the SD-card and when I manually go into the lua script in TC16X I can start it from there, but not from the actual wizard. Why's that? I tried with deleting all the files on the SD-card and reinstalling the latest OpenTX but no difference than I also got an quad but still no plane.

      Sounds like something corrupted in the sd card contents. Honestly, the wizard is cumbersome so I've never taken time to understand wizard issues.

    When I click on the wheel to select models, I don't get the different models on the left side like Balsa, jets and so on. I only see models and category. Did I delete these somehow and how do I get them back there? Thanks for any help.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 года назад

      You have to make the categories on your own. They don't come with the categories already defined.

    How log does it take the radio to turn on and be ready to use? Ireally dislike radios that that take long bootup times, I want a radio that is just a radio, not a computer with an operating system.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  4 года назад +1

      3.27 seconds with splash screen and bootup sounds off.
      If you want a radio that's just a radio and not a computer with an operating system then you won't be using anything with model memory, mixing, curves, variables, audio prompts, telemetry, logging, or multi-protocol support. Those capabilities require processing and file i/o...i.e. a computer.
      I haven't used a radio like that for about 19 years.
