      And he wrote most of their heavier material. Rik said he wanted to move more into pop oriented music, the rest didn't agree and he quit in 88. By 92 they were finished. They've only reunited 3 times since.

      @@marcribaudo1965 What is weird to me is I have heard a couple interviews that Rik said the opposite as in Gil and Mike wanted more radio friendly (for lack of a better term) songs. I found that real hard to believe. Because it's fairly obvious Gil and Mike leaned toward heavier songs. Rik liked more prog stuff too!

    • @dlewisfl
      @dlewisfl Год назад +12

      @@markcarchedi915 As I've heard it, Gil and Mike wanted to carry on doing party songs and the same kind of stuff they were doing, Rik wanted to explore different genres and lyrics with deeper meaning. Rik wrote all the stuff that had any kind of deeper meaning than the hard-driving party songs.

    • @markcarchedi915
      @markcarchedi915 Год назад +6

      @@dlewisfl I'm glad Rik got to do what he wanted as a solo artist. He never had the overall success as with Triumph. Although I am sure he was happy doing all the different styles. I found Triumph to be a band that had a nice blend of music. Once they recorded The Sport of Kings, pretty much selling out, that confused many fans. Then going forward with the heavier Surveillance album confused some even more 🤔

      Cool band but their songwriting is hit and miss IMO. That’s why they didn’t get huge. People always say this and it’s always down to the body of songwriting. Lay it on the line is a solid FM radio tune but many of their songs are kind of forgettable. Good jams etc. Same thing with say the NWOTHM-Maiden and Def Leppard wrote the best songs….or Metallica in thrash….best songwriters….AC/DC etc …..it’s all about the songwriting. Bands that get huge just write the best songs and have many of them.

      @@robertsmith6739 he discussed that in an interview I watched just yesterday. He felt disenchanted and controlled by record label and management that wanted to bring in outside writers and make “hits”….you establish a name brand, and then they want to milk it for as much as they can. The business gets in the way of the original creators - and he strikes me as honest and forthright. He did not want to forsake the reason he started in music in the first place for money and popularity. Others will go for the fame and money….not the way he wanted it.

      But I did see Triumph at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena a little over a year before, it was the Fourth of July weekend.
      It was Aldo Nova, Triumph, Blue Öyster Cult and Journey closing it out.
      Everyone was spectacular, but I remembered as a fourteen year old that Triumph really played well.

    Much love to you three. Cause I had the music in me I went on to be a player and singer and made a great time/living at it. Had the pleasure of seeing you for thunder 7 and sport of kings in TO and so many bands could have learned from you guys. Thanks for posting this amazing show for us!

      haha We ate junk food everyday as kids in the 80's and never gained any weight. i think it's a cross between being super active and the food is processed like crap now.

    This is really cool. I saw these dudes after they played here at The American Rock Festival at The Timber Ridge Ski Resort Northwest of Kalamazoo Michigan. It was 90+degrese that day and 50k rockers (an unusual event for a rock fest in the middle of nowhere). Ozzy was there,, Ratt.. Motley Crue.. Night Ranger, Quiet Riot and Accept. Yeah it was hot as hell that day man but I stood there 5 rows back watching Rik Emmet jamming in front of me. He was brilliant,, Triumph was on fire back then. They looked JUST like they are here Lol. Seeing this really jarred loose some great memories of that day! I wish you could offer a T- Shirt from that incredible day at Timber Ridge Ski Resort??? 😁Triumph's music will live on forever!!! Thanks for the upload. 🤘

      @@scottswidler8871 What a killer line up and day of hard rock. That was history for Michigan,, and yes.. it was hot as hell man! We got there really early before the traffic got insane. Man I was 22 then. I'm 60 now, Lol- still remember most of it... still have my ticket stub!!!! It really sucks they didn't film that whole event! 🤘

    Hope they removed the mid solo interviews. The editor should be shamed.
    Mid Rik Emmettt solo
    Interviewer: "What are your greatest goals?"
    Some guy: "Be a better writer. Maybe write"

      As if we were going to get bored watching Rik do his guitar magic. I agree... the editor should be shamed! (Of course, I didn't mind the insertions of hot chicks dancing in the crowd.)

    I was there, and Triumph was absolutely frickin great ! I was within 100 yards of the stage so I could see them really well, and they were just great. I loved all of the bands that played that day & its a day that I will never forget but atleast for me, they were my favorite act that day. When you're a 3 piece band, you need to be tight & have your 💩 together & those 3 guys did that day for sure
    🤘
    Rik Emmet is a fantastic guitar player too but they are all really good musicians 👍
