I can't believe so many people are complaining about the tempo. It's live music! Your adrenaline starts pumping and you play a bit faster. It's very common.

    • @bigolbologna6915
      @bigolbologna6915 4 года назад +9

Aaron Stark exactly! ccr especially would sometimes play their times twice as fast live. most bands were also fueled by cocaine and amphetamines so that can contribute too.

    • @Acid78
      @Acid78 4 года назад +15

In an interview Darcy stated that the band often put little weights on their fingers for rehearsals to slow their hands down. For the show they would remove the weights and their hands would move much faster now, speeding up the songs.

      @bigsky3072 3 года назад +2

    • @toddinthemiddle
      @toddinthemiddle 3 года назад +1

@@bigsky3072 i also grew up in the 70s, but my take on the 90s is not that it was the best decade for music, but the last great one.
i've put 60s, 70s 80s and 90s "best of" collections together, and i came up with one 60s, three 70s, six 80s and only three 90s discs of roughly sixteen songs per.
IMHO, 1980-1985 (my take is that music started declining badly in 1986) has so much amazing stuff, with the new wave, pop rock and "metal", that it easily surpasses the 90s.
as an aside, i also took a lot of incomplete studio greatest hits collections of various artists from the 60s, 70s, 80s and made them whole.

Theres a guitarist who i saw live in 1978 when i was 18. He is Adrian Belew and David Bowie wanted the world to hear what he could do, so he stole him from Frank Zappa and he became lead guitarist for Bowie on the 1978 Heroes/Isolar World Tour.
Adrian since went on to blow minds worldwide as guitar for Talking Heads in 1980 and then joined King Crimson. Adrians 5min intro to Station To Station live in 78 blew me away lights out.
Billy's love for Bowie is widely known and they played together once i know of. Billy's Fender Strat howls, screams and groans just like Adrian's Strat and Billy would of been inspired by Adrian to produce that pyrotechnic sound. The Cherub Rock solo is like its in its own universe, its that great. Adrian has since gone on to play with so many artists. He is a legend and theres nobody other than he and Billy who can produce that sound. They were both playing really old beat up same models, its amazing.

    Pumpkins Lyrics
    "Cherub Rock"
    Freak out
    And give in
Doesn't matter what you believe in
    Stay cool
And be somebody's fool this year
    'cause they know
Who is righteous, what is bold
    So I'm told
    Who wants honey
As long as there's some money
    Who wants that honey?
    Hipsters unite
Come align for the big fight to rock for you
    But beware
All those angels with their wings glued on
    'cause deep down
We are frightened and we're scared
    If you don't stare
    Let me out
Tell me all of your secrets
Cannot help but believe this is true
Tell me all of your secrets
    I know, I know, I know
Should have listened when I was told

Nirvana is obviously the most influential band of the 90s, but I think it’s officially time to declare Pumpkins the best band overall of the 90s.

The pumpkins had some great songs for sure...but they are/were no Nirvana...

@@xerb9920yeah agree like they had some real cool and badass music but were nowhere near nirvanna's level in terms of mainstream appeal

Jimmy Chamberlain is murdering it.... Think about it, they had just released a double album and were probably re-exploring stuff from Siamese Dream, but with more of an edge and rock heavy. They hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned.

    Pumpkins Lyrics
    "Cherub Rock"
    Freak out
    And give in
Doesn't matter what you believe in
    Stay cool
And be somebody's fool this year
    'cause they know
Who is righteous, what is bold
    So I'm told
    Who wants honey
As long as there's some money
    Who wants that honey?
    Hipsters unite
Come align for the big fight to rock for you
    But beware
All those angels with their wings glued on
    'cause deep down
We are frightened and we're scared
    If you don't stare
    Who wants honey
As long as there's some money
    Who wants that honey?
    Let me out
    Let me out
    Let me out
    Let me out
Tell me all of your secrets
Cannot help but believe this is true
Tell me all of your secrets
    I know, I know, I know
Should have listened when I was told
    Who wants honey
As long as there is some money
    Who wants that honey?
    Let me out
    Let me out
    Let me out
    Let me out
