That 2023 Batch 1 was unbelievable.
Today was my lucky day! I got the 10Y for $66 and the 12Y for $88. Just wild!!!
I got 2 bottles of 12 year at Beach Liquors in Destin Florida for $112 each a few weeks ago. They have no more and I had no idea when I bought it that it was so rare. It's the best I've had so far. Another local store has a bottle for $350. I hope batch 3 is much bigger.
Okay the 12yr batch 2 is just Great. I get cherry , caramel, brown sugar and ends nicely with a spice that lasts. The batch 1 I tasted more of a fruit/ raisin/ cherry on the lips that lasted. Batch 1 was spectacular. One of the best!

I only get butt hurt when people accuse of me liking vodka. that cuts deep. haha. for what it's worth, I have had that comparison before. when I have a shaved head I get Billy Corgan and when my beard is longer some country singer who does a lot a cocaine.

I agree 100%. Don’t buy chicken at a steak house; just doesn’t make sense.
This shit was already insanely expensive on the open market, but now that Fred has given his opinion, watch out, $700 JD 12 prices incoming 😂
Wish I could find one at MSRP but got one at 180 and one at 200. Everywhere sells them for 400 to 500 and most big liquor chains in FL only got 1 or 2.
One of them should print the suggested retail price right on the label like Arizona Iced Tea 😂
Never found it for srp! I have found it for $200. I have bought it. It was worth it. BUT...... i have found Blantons for 150 and that was excellent as well.
I call people out for the whole ordering the wrong thing at specific places. Like going to a steamed burger place and getting a chicken wrap or going to a chicken wing place and getting tacos. Doesn't make sense for my brain lol. Also, last years batch was great. I just picked up this years and looking to opening it up this Thursday with my friends.
Yeah have never seen any year of these at retail so never had the chance to try one.
I got a lot of leather and tobacco on the mid palate. Banana bomb up front. Very fruit forward. Loved it! Cheers!
$199, thought it was batch one. Hope that banana note opens up into some spice. Glad it was good, not opening mine.
I grabbed a bottle at my liquor store in Idaho for $95! Absolutely worth it!
Nice review, Fred. You don't want to know what they're trying to get for it in NY - $3,4,500. Luckily I have a SB BP Brbn store pk and an SB BP Rye and they are lights out good as Imagine you are well aware.

Live in Buffalo NY, local large wine/liquor store selling 12 yr for $399. I would rather spend that amount on 2 or 3 great bottles of whiskey.
To be fair, this IS a great bottle of whiskey. But to your point, not at $300. Around $200 max it is spectacular. $175 is cheapest I've snagged it in Chattanooga.

I am with you go to the restaurant for what they are good at not alternatives. I had same issue with some guest from another country and seafood. They got the chicken. I told them dont get the chicken at a seafood place. They had one bite and said I was right!
That passes me off the Federal Government insulates retailers and distributors from selling at MSRP and gouging customers.
I’ll never see either it that’s okay I can get their SBBP all day every day and the rye which I prefer. And I eat both the only thing is we don’t have a good chicken place around me and Kentucky fried chicken isn’t a good chicken joint to me. Chicken and waffles is a great meal. Great review and honestly I’m glad I live in a controlled state. Yes we may not get some allocated bottles but I don’t hunt allocated anyway.
Rib Eye steak all day. Jumped on this early and picked up two JD 12 bottles this year. Missed out last year and didn’t want to happen again.
I don't like bananas at all. But I do like banana bread, odd I know.. but damn this is some good juice!
Chicken can be good but order the fish or a pork chop if you don't want a steak. I tend to order the New York strip.
If I were spending over MSRP, I would get batch 1, which I thought was a revelation. Batch 2 is “just” very good. Definitely worth MSRP and a bit more. I wouldn’t spend $200 for it, but I would -and have-- spent $200 for batch 1 with no hesitation.

Banana is disgusting. They taste bad, smell bad, even sound bad when you eat one. I think I even hate yellow. Yet banana in a whiskey doesn’t seem to turn me off. Go figure.
I snagged batch one of these at retail and loved it. Hopefully I’ll be as lucky with batch two.

@@FredMinnick yes! It won’t make it here to Texas until year 3. I’ve been looking on their website to see if I can order them online but no luck yet. I’ve got some friends who still live in Southern Pines who could possibly send me some bottles. I hope you can get your hands on one sooner than I can!

I've had some of the best fish at steakhouses.
I can cook a steak better than a restaurant. So I hate to cook chicken so have ordered parmesan crusted chicken at a steak place.

They price fix electronics. iPhones cost the same no matter where you buy one. They should put a stop to the price gouging of bourbons. Controlled states do it, so it can be done. The 3 tier system needs to be looked at. My 3 cents. Thanks Fred!

I head this one is much more banana and sweet notes than teh dark fruity notes of b1. Consensus is b1 was more complex, but b2 is really well put together.
Steak > Chicken 95% of the time. The other 5% is the best Home Made Fried Chicken! As far as top price I'd pay for Jack 12? I paid $130 for Baker's 13. Is it better than Baker's 13??? They are the same proof. Is the new JD 12 better than the the 1st one?

Does brown forman use the same or similar yeast? I do not care for jack, old forester, or woodford products outside of a few generally higher proof products and its that banana flavor that gets me!
I read that it's the yeast but also the temps they keep the yeast at that also imparts the flavor supposedly.

The steak thing reminds me of a funny story. In the first year that we were dating, I take my wife to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. She orders the chicken. I don’t know her that well and think she just doesn’t like steak. Turns out, she loves steak. And to this day, thinks Ruth’s Chris sucks because the chicken wasn’t that good.
I mean, Ruth’s Chris makes a great steak. Of course, they aren’t as good at making a chicken breast. It’s fine. There are a number of good steakhouses in the area.

Im sorry, but the prices have gotten to the point of absurdity. The average guy is being priced out of any luxury. I would never, ever, pay more than retail for a JD product. I got a first year Coy Hill (big bottle) for retail when it was released. It is awesome, but I would never pay the secondary market price for it. I've gone back to Scotch recently. Much more bang for your buck.

You’re not wrong about chicken at a steakhouse. I always tell my wife don’t order the salmon at a steakhouse. They know steak and usually don’t get salmon right. And don’t order steak at a fish restaurant either!
