Compared to all the other drawing like teaching channels, ur my fav. U are so enthusiastic and so bright and I love the way you set up ur channel. Keep going never stop! I subbed and liked and it really helped me too.
You have changed my belief in myself that I really can learn to draw. You make it so understandable it's amazing the gift you have for teaching beginners like us so we can understand & you're also a joy to watch and listen to you're so upbeat and cheerful so it rubs off on us.. Thank you for sharing your gift with us..
Having watched all the videos of how to learn drawing, on RUclips, yours is absolutely the best ! I have followed your class ever since I came across your channel , it's really a great help for the beginners. When I finish drawing that big tree, I could not believe that I made it through. Thanks again for your help ! Paul !
Wow. This series is amazing. Simple to follow, great techniques I can use and amazing results. Thank you so much! This actually gave me the much needed confidence boost that yes I can still learn to draw. Can't thank you enough
Now you notice I'm better beginner cz of u nice & simple its not difficult only cz of u master of art... Ur lessons Mr. Paul are really to much wholesome full of depth....
Dear Mr. Priestley, thank you so much for your great videos! I always wanted to draw, but I was afraid. I thought I could never do it. Two weeks ago I finally started drawing and discovered your channel. Your videos are such a great help! I'm drawing every day now, practice a lot. Every time I grab my pencil, I know I will become better. It's a long way to go, but I know I can do it. Your videos gave me a lot of confidence and courage! Thank you! Greetings from Germany :)
That's great, drawing is about confidence as much as anything else. The more you draw the better you'll get. Good luck and greetings from England. Cheers Paul
WOW, that was absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!! To be able to see how one takes the idea of using just lines, then incorporating them into the framework of a picture is pure gold. Often we see the finished results of things and wonder, how did they get there? Seeing this process and the breakdown of technique without doubt, can make ANYONE feel like an accomplished artist. The key is up to the individual. If you practice and one does the work, you are guaranteed to get great results. Following along with you, I actually have a beautiful piece of ART. How cool is that! Deep gratitude to you for sharing your skills with all of us beginners. I do believe following your suggestions will bring me to becoming a better artist. For that Paul, I thank you!
Mate, not only am I learning from your videos but I am also really getting uplifted by your upbeat demeanor. We all need this in these times. Cheers! 👍
Wishes same! I’ve been learning how to draw and it helps my keep my mind busy. Instead of focusing on anxiety I’m thinking about shading and how I can look at something and try to put it on paper
Hello Mr. Priestley, your videos are truly inspiring, I'm amazed at using the techniques you have shown me so far, has been easy to do and so, so, so helpful. Thank you for these videos. Have a wonderful and safe day.
This series is amazing.so beautiful and simple tutorial. Shadow and Tones part is little bit complicated for me before but after watching I'm rearing to start with my own drawing
@@PaulPriestleyart Dear Paul, cannot but write to you again. Your modesty makes me respect you even more. And one more thing - I admired your pedagogical talent. You are absolutely right saying to students that 'IT IS EASY'. We understand it is not, but we agree to go the way you show us because we feel trust to the way you suggest us to follow at once! Thanks again. Your devoted student.
Thanks Mr. Priestley! I just started to draw again and perchance I stumbled upon your videos at around 4:00 this morning. Excellent foundational advice! Greetings from Los Angeles, California!
I must admit I don't usually draw at 4.00 in the morning, but I'm glad you were looking for drawing videos at that time. Glad you enjoyed my video. Greetings from Somerset, England.
Really enjoy watching your video, simple and easy to understand and follow. Have learned a lot from it. Didn’t know drawing a tree could be that easy!! Thank you for sharing all these techniques.
Your videos are great in the sense that it makes me understand certain concepts of drawing without much effort and it is easy to follow. Thank you. Keep it up!
British accent throws me off but for some reason I understand everything you says! Thank you for the informative teachings with a touch of humor. Liked and subscribed!! Cheers!!
hi i just subbed because you explain in simple terms, plus i have picked up my pencil again after 30 years and i am at a loss where to start you make it sound so easy thank you
This is a great video on technique and why it is done in a particular way. You got me to vary my shading by drawing more (or fewer) lines for the Oak tree in the foreground, nice! I feel I still have some problems with hatching and cross-hatching. I seem to be doing more shading than drawing individual lines. Perhaps my pencil point is too rounded? Thanks again for this wonderful teaching video!
Great video Paul! Wow after this video im confident that i can draw what you showed as well. Also i see the bigger picture from the lines u drew to show depth, The tree is in land but theres a river and another small island with trees across it 😀
Starting to draw Three things to know 🎼 Like a lyric 😂😁 Must appreciate sir. Well done. Very valuable video . Love from sri lanka 🇱🇰 . Also appreciate your replies. Very kind sir. 🧡 I still watch them in order ... 😇
That's a beautiful and simple tutorial. Shadow and Tones part is little bit complicated for me. Because there are many things happening in the sketch. I also do photography, And i know how important to learn the shadow part. Without it the sketch looks flat. More practice required for me 😅
I have tried to adjust my computer screen so I am able to see these lightly drawn lines So far I have no luck this is not only your video but everyone else who is doing these tutorials. Can anyone out there offer me some suggestions I have my screen as bright as possible I'm using a Mac laptop.
I have no problem seeing the lighter lines on my pc laptop. I am using a HB pencil so it should be OK. I would suggest you turn the brightness down and increase the contrast. Cheers
Paul, is there any chance you could use a darker pencil when drawing outlines. I have difficulty seeing what you have done until you start shading. I find this with all of your videos. I’m sure I cannot be the only one with poor sight.
I'll try to make the preliminary lines a little darker, the problem is if they become too dark it's difficult to achieve the depth. But I do realise the issue is of concern to a few people so I'll do my best. Cheers Paul
I am enjoying, and learning a lot, from your video series. Do you ever answer questions? If so, I have one regarding the pencil usage and sharpening. I am finding that the soft, dark pencils rapidly lose their sharpness when heavy pressure is applied, as in this lesson. Should one frequently stop work to sharpen a pencil, or is it more practical to start with several freshly sharpened 8B pencils, change them out as they flatten, and then have a marathon sharpening session when finished? I do not have any 8B but am trying to decide whether to buy just one or many. Due to the times, these have to be ordered for home delivery so there will be a delay. Whether you can take the time to answer or not, I sincerely thank you for all that you do for so very many of us.
Soft pencils are not really designed for sharp points and lines. Soft dark lines is what they produce. As far as sharpening, just use one pencil and sharpen it as you need to. Worry about the drawing not the pencils. Cheers Paul
The drawing pencils, 2B, 4B etc. I use, cost no more than the standard HB pencil and a lot less than a mechanical pencil. I don't know where you live in the world, but in England you can buy cheap drawing pencils at art shops or places like The Works, or The Range.

Cheers Paul, any tips for left-handed?
Not really, being left handed is not a problem, Leonardo da Vinci was left handed and he did OK.
Could you please do a tutorial with a regular pencil Or mechanical pencils because I cannot afford the drawing pencils that you have thank you
