    Dear Mr. Priestley, thank you so much for your great videos! I always wanted to draw, but I was afraid. I thought I could never do it. Two weeks ago I finally started drawing and discovered your channel. Your videos are such a great help! I'm drawing every day now, practice a lot. Every time I grab my pencil, I know I will become better. It's a long way to go, but I know I can do it. Your videos gave me a lot of confidence and courage! Thank you! Greetings from Germany :)

    WOW, that was absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!! To be able to see how one takes the idea of using just lines, then incorporating them into the framework of a picture is pure gold.
    Often we see the finished results of things and wonder, how did they get there?
    Seeing this process and the breakdown of technique without doubt, can make ANYONE feel like an accomplished artist. The key is up to the individual.
    If you practice and one does the work, you are guaranteed to get great results. Following along with you, I actually have a beautiful piece of ART. How cool is that!
    Deep gratitude to you for sharing your skills with all of us beginners. I do believe following your suggestions will bring me to becoming a better artist.
    For that Paul, I thank you!

    This is a great video on technique and why it is done in a particular way. You got me to vary my shading by drawing more (or fewer) lines for the Oak tree in the foreground, nice! I feel I still have some problems with hatching and cross-hatching. I seem to be doing more shading than drawing individual lines. Perhaps my pencil point is too rounded? Thanks again for this wonderful teaching video!

  • @jacksden1

    Paul, is there any chance you could use a darker pencil when drawing outlines. I have difficulty seeing what you have done until you start shading. I find this with all of your videos. I’m sure I cannot be the only one with poor sight.

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  5 лет назад

      I'll try to make the preliminary lines a little darker, the problem is if they become too dark it's difficult to achieve the depth. But I do realise the issue is of concern to a few people so I'll do my best. Cheers Paul

    I am enjoying, and learning a lot, from your video series. Do you ever answer questions? If so, I have one regarding the pencil usage and sharpening. I am finding that the soft, dark pencils rapidly lose their sharpness when heavy pressure is applied, as in this lesson. Should one frequently stop work to sharpen a pencil, or is it more practical to start with several freshly sharpened 8B pencils, change them out as they flatten, and then have a marathon sharpening session when finished? I do not have any 8B but am trying to decide whether to buy just one or many. Due to the times, these have to be ordered for home delivery so there will be a delay. Whether you can take the time to answer or not, I sincerely thank you for all that you do for so very many of us.

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  4 года назад

      Soft pencils are not really designed for sharp points and lines. Soft dark lines is what they produce. As far as sharpening, just use one pencil and sharpen it as you need to. Worry about the drawing not the pencils. Cheers Paul
