Well done on reuploading this with the right info on the F Stops vs ND numbers... I really love these filters... Cheers, Ian in London.

Billy. I am following you on the statement that on your Mavic Pro 2 the aperture is variable so you don’t think it’s necessary to have a very “dark” ND filter but you are omitting one point. That point is that based off what I have heard many say is that this particular len’s IQ drops off dramatically once it steps down past F 5.6. I don’t have this drone yet but based off my experience with many DSLR lens this isn’t any different with those lens versus a drones camera lens. None of DSLR lens I own doesn’t show increasing diffraction levels in the higher F stops. In fact on my Inspire 2 camera, some of the lens I have for its camera (X5S) suffers to the point that an image shot at F16 and above is basically unusable. With higher quality lens the degradation at higher apertures doesn’t dive off as bad as this but they all still suffer the same fall off to some noticeable degree. Isn’t this something you should bare in mind when considering cranking down the aperture on any camera lens? And typically the same could be said for shooting wide open with most lens, though instead of diffraction being the issue it becomes more a physical issues with using the very margins of the lens but the image IQ nevertheless suffers at that far end of the range as well though not typically as much. Just my observations that I have seen

It's true. Mavic Pro 2 Hasselblad lens is the sharpest between f/2.8- f/5.6. I never use it above f/5.6. It's less sharp above f/5.6. Crazy sharp at f/4.0 (my favorite F stop) Completely useless at f/11 because of lens diffraction. Looks blurry but still usable.

Just started looking into Variable NDs for DSLR/Mirrorless camera’s, wasn’t aware of them for drones now! (Or mavic 2 Pro specifically)... Great video to get your personal advice and review of filters all in all. Thanks and love your videos!

I test it and the range is up to a ND 128 equivalent so yeah they are very good.

Isn't the variable filter just two polarised filters sandwiched? That would mean you would always have to factor in polarisation?

I found that ND8 is the most useful for Mavic 2Pro with adjustable aperture

I just love how everybody thinks motion blur looks good because they do it in the movies. side by side a movie made without ND filters to me look sharper and you can see way more detail than with motion blur but everybody insists on copying the movies.
And they've already done plenty of videos showing if you don't have a lot of movement up front on a video like if you're high up in the air you can't even tell the difference if you have an ND filter on or not.
But instead people are obsessed with these things.
I do understand making effects using ND filters at night, or in a waterfall with car lights and stuff like that
But in general purposely trying to get motion blur with every video is not necessarily look better at all.
so funny since when does blurring make things look better I laughed my ass off when I read about people freaking out about this.
Watching the videos that I watch I prefer the look of videos without the ND filters on it just looks so much more detailed, Sharp and better in my opinion.
In other words if no one really knew about this blurring effect in motion pictures and you asked someone honestly which one looked better they would pick the one without the ND filter I guarantee it!! They would say it's sharper less blurry and more detailed.. it's almost like a magic trick that makes people think it looks better but it really doesn't..
But anyways to each his own

@eel3161 It's a little bit better but you still need ND filters even with The mavic 2.. not enough options.. everybody I know who has the mavic 2 still needs ND filters regardless. It's just not a big enough camera to have enough stops..

ND 512 could come in handy shooting hyperlapses.

    • @ZackScriven
      @ZackScriven 4 года назад

@Daytona 6263 it just depends on your hyperlapse interval. If you wanted 10 second intervals thats a 5 second shutter
