My rule whenever I took my daughter to the park was no cell phone and no conversations with other parents, basically NO to anything that could distract me. I literally sat there and kept an eye on her for every single second while she played with other children. Yeah, I never relaxed but I knew what was at stake and I could see the potential for a lifetime of agony over being selfish for the little time I was supposed to be protecting her in public spaces.

I'm the exact same. It annoys me how many parents just sit and chat over coffee, while there most precious thing in their lives, their child is wandering freely with who. I have worked with kids for 30 years ... usually those in not the best of circumstances. A message to everyone ... just be vigilant. Whether you have kids or not, be aware of your surroundings. Notice where everyone is, notice anyone acting strangely, notice if a kid looks out of place, scared, etc. You don't have to be overly paranoid ... just aware ... you could save a life.

All the facts were not reported on,so, how come everyone just assumes the stepfather couldn’t protect the child? Kids get taken with their real fathers around too. It only takes a minute for a child to be snatched. If the mother and stepdad were looking away just for a few moments that can be enough time for the little girl to get grabbed. It’s unfortunate, but, that doesn’t mean the stepfather is not a caring, responsible parent.
The wife doesn't need to be protected.. and she should protect her kids too. It is sad that she couldn't depend on her current partner to help protect her kids

That guy is not a hero. He's a father, and hopefully those are just synonyms, especially in regard to the well being of his daughters.
@Cody McCabe You don't get it. What the father did is the bare requirement of being a father. This feat wasn't anything "above and beyond" what any father would do. I believe that's the point he was making, and it makes sense. I can't imagine any father in the world not protecting their child this way, so the choice of words in this report is strange. A "hero" would be someone who has no benefit from helping someone outside of their own family, but does so anyway.

they still had the older girl to think about, should they have abandoned her? Mom did the right thing and called for help from someone she knew could get there right away and stayed with the older child.
@@haydeng3541 , sounds to me like mother and step father were behind behind the kidnapper... and father was coming at him from in front of kidnapper (after phone call). Parks are typically big and it sounds like kidnapper had a head start.
