For me i think it was getting the master sword. Did you ever read the comic based on this game? The one from the Nintendo power magazine? I have it and it's great.
@@shanesimon1676 Same! Though being sent the Dark World for the first time after defeating Agahnim, and Sahasrahla sending you on the next part of your quest, was a close second.
The most memorable part is maybe the very begining, Link being telepathicaly summoned to become a hero and obtaining the master sword for the first time. But really everything about this game is iconic and I could probably describe every event, dungeon, enemy, item and magic um detail. I must have played this a thousand times.
Definitely the part where you get the flute and also when the son turns to wood, that whole part makes me emotional for some reason, there's just something really sad and emotional about it. But then the portion when you fight aghanim, right before the battle with Gannon. That moment, having the bird swoop in to save you in a place where you wouldn't even be able to summon it really seemed intense to me. Link just happens to play it and the bird somehow shows up to pick him up and brings link to safety, and seeing that while Gannon is flying by and he crashes into the golden palace - it's just insane. Something about it just really hits me hard, this tiny bird is essentially defenseless but happens to show up and saves link and puts itself in Gannon's way the whole time, and in circumstances that don't normally work out, because you can't summon the bird indoors at any point in the game. Idk, something about it just seems particularly intense and it always just
My favorite part was the Flute Boy's story. That's what really turned me into a Determinator where the Main Quest was concerned. Ganon was going _down_ after I found out about that, no matter what it took.
Same! That and the point where the duck comes to the rescue and you end up at the top of the golden palace. Those two stories are linked in that way, and something about the story regarding the flute and how it goes into that ending portion makes me emotional. The duck can't be summoned indoors and it's known already long before that battle, but link happens to decide to play it in that moment still despite that fact and the duck somehow swoops in to grab him, and that's on top of the fact that that bird is completely defenseless to all of the dark creatures and especially gannon, and yet it shows up for link in that moment. Idk something about that just hits hard, both the boy's story but then the additional sentimentality of that scene. I 100% agree with you on that ( I know I'm extrapolating a bit and going into separate stories but I still see them as tied together because of the flute/duck). Edit: I just realized also, that story about the flute and the boy was the first thing from a video game to ever make me tear up, something about that forest scene really hit hard. My siblings always laughed those kinds of scenes off or made fun of people suffering but when I was able to play it on my own and I got to that point it really made me feel strongly about everything
My sister and I use to play this game before going to sleep. The age gap between us was around 8/9 years older than me and we would never hang out because of that but when I got this game for Christmas all of a sudden we started hanging out by playing this game. She didn’t like to play games but she really got into this one. Recently my sister passed away due to cancer and watching this walk through took me back to those days. That intro might as well have been the Bible when I first played this at 7 years old. I'll never forget it. I was a hero trying to save Hyrule and explore the golden land. I had to honor the mages. It was all so real. Lol this is my too 3 if not number one game of all time.

The legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was my introduction to the The Legend of Zelda series. For me it's the best game in the entire series and definitely my favourite of all time.
Best Zelda game. 2nd favorite game of all time. This game has absolutely no faults. The world was vast for a SNES title. It had a lot of dungeons, some really fantastic boss ideas which improved over the first two games immensely, introduced mainstays like the Master Sword, Heart Pieces, Bottles and the Hookshot, and among the best and most memorable music in the series. This IS the definitive Zelda overworld theme.
As always, another great video. The only thing that I was hoping to hear was during the fight with Agahnim you threw in a, “Despite the Master Sword being able to deflect his dark magic, Link opted to use the Bug Catching Net, which apparently was just as a powerful”.
@@Xygor: Not a problem and yes, I'm not sure what the logic behind making the net work was but if nothing else, it's fun. Cannot wait for "Complete Story" episodes for Final Fantasy IV, Chrono Trigger, and best of all: Xenogears!
@@Xygor Looking forward to Chrono Trigger - hopefully you'll give FF IV a review, as well. Xenogears would take ages but would make for an amazing video. In my opinion, it has the best story of any RPG hands down.

There never was another Zelda game like A Link to the Past. None of them ever followed the same well done formula again. Exploration was treated as secondary with Ocarina of Time and after. See, exploration was needed to actually finish the game, and sure while it told you there were places you needed to go to move on with the story, It wasn't the only part of the game. You could explore, find secrets, and the items in the dungeons didn't exactly mean you needed it to defeat a boss, hell in the ice dungeon you have to defeat the boss with an item you got from the skull woods. Just to defeat the turtle rock boss you need the ice rod and fire rod. The ice rod having to be tracked down by actually exploring and isn't even in a dungeon. This is one of the few games where I legitimately can not find any faults. It's like a god damned perfect game.

1:36 this part, of ganondorf suddenly killing his followers could be developed into compelling drama. Suppose it starts with the foreknowledge of this fact and we start the story in the lead up, it could have potential
My favourite game of all time. Literally playing it through again right now doing a dungeon a night. I think my favourite part was getting the titans mitt from Blinds Hideout because the game opened up in so many ways after that and made your player into a red sword badass
@@Xygor when I wrote this comment I was in the middle of playing it. Then I started playing Earthbound for the first time. Now after Christmas, I own a Switch and am trying BOTW for the very first time.
Two new features for the SNES, I think, made this Zelda game my favorite Zelda game: 1) The game designers mentioned how the SNES allowed for at least two graphic layers. This is what allowed the rain effects, etc. in this Zelda game. 2) Mode 7.
I really like how Link to the Past feels mechanically the most ‘Zelda’ but aesthetically reminds me more of traditional old-english fantasy. The title screen with the castle and the lake, it doesn’t really fit the more vibrant and creative visuals of, say, the 3D Zelda games. I love it! It has a distinct vibe from the other games in that way, to me at least.
My mind still reels with the realization that though this game is released before Ocarina of Time, it chronologically takes place after Ocarina of Time, after an outcome where Ganondorf defeats Hero of Time Link.
I found my brothers game boy and it had this game in it so I started to play. It’s a fun game but I was confused on the story. Thanks for the video, I now understand :)
It’s because Link’s uncle tried to strike Aghanim (remember he’s invulnerable to normal swords) that he was felled. It’s in the game somewhere and in the comic as well.
I’m loving these videos and will keep watching whatever you put out, I want to ask if you are not at the moment can you please do the breath of fire games please and possibly a complete time line of them all after? It would be great content and for sure keep you busy. I can’t be the only one that thinks those games are up there with the other RPGS. Just an idea I think you would knock out of the park.
Nintendo needs to get back to focusing on all the franchise games they helped create. not just on Mario and Zelda. Mario and Zelda are going to be good no matter what. I wish Nintendo would put the effort and time into making a killer Metroid, Star Fox and even the classic nintendo sports games they use to make in the 1980s. Still love that Nintendo Hockey from the 80s that was so simple! Nothing like being the fat dude and running over people or causing the cartoonish fights!
Should probably have mentioned than in the theives hideout link finds what appears to be a maiden but she won't leave the dungeon with him but when he exposed her to daylight she turns out to be Blind himself. Please flow up with a link between worlds
What a game this was. I remember getting it when it was new and being a bit apprehensive about it. I hated Zelda 2 and while I was happy this game played like the first I felt like I was taking a big chance on it. Then I played it and almost instantaneously I loved it. The gameplay, graphics, and sound were so incredible for the time I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was truly a showstopping watershed moment for gaming.
@@Xygor It's been quite awhile since I have played Zelda: A Link to The Past. I still own it of course in multiple formats...maybe I'll play it today. I was looking for something to play today. God that intro music...I'm sorry, I am listening to your video. Right now you're reading the story.
Beautiful story line but keep in mind that an important detail was left out, how did we get to this timeline? Remember Ocarina of Time has 3 timelines at the end of the game ( to my knowledge) and OoT is before Zelda I, Zelda II and Zelda III! In the fallen timeline when Link lost to Ganon and was killed, Ganon took Link's Triforce and Zelda's too, in desperation Zelda had no choice but to seal Ganon with what was left of her power in the Golden Land with all 3 pieces of the Triforce! And now the beginning of this video continues where I left off.
An important detail was left out.... of the OoT video that isn't in this video, and also is my interpretation of things, and also in this one timeline. You are an idiot.
This was great bro. I was 8 when this came out and it was me and my brothers shit lol this was a trip down memory lane . awesome video bro thanks for making

Aw this was terrific, I've always wondered about the story since I'm the type of player who really didn't care about the story. But now I really wanted to read the game but I'm already in the dark world and this just helped me thank you ^^
A fun little Easter egg I used to defeat Agahnim instead of the Master Sword is the Bug Catching Net. So since you don't technically need the Master Sword to defeat him, if only you could get to him without getting the sword...
I have NEVER played this game. I’ve only played the 3D ones and most recently finished Tears of the Kingdom which was super good. My first was Ocarina of Time in my childhood. My favorite is wind Waker. Yet despite all that I can honestly say that THIS game, is THE most “Zelda” game of them all. This one captures the essence of everything it means to be a Zelda game. From music to sounds to story to gameplay. I can most certainly see why this one is seen as the best in the franchise by many and that’s without me ever even playing it yet. I appreciate the lengths they went with BOTW and TOTK but it doesn’t feel NEARLY like Zelda like this game. They’re so drastically different, if the characters weren’t named the same I wouldn’t have guessed it was a Zelda game.
Can someone please explain this to me isn't that backstory just the events of ocarina of time? Minus the whole perspective from link that we are used to
@@Xygor I have an original SNES with Link to the Past. But seeing as it's old, and I don't want to wear it out, I use an emulator instead. I haven't played the game in a while now, but boy oh boy, did I play it in the past. My parents had a SNES for their wedding gift to each other, and it has been with the family ever since. ALTTP was the second video game I had ever seen, let alone played. I goofed around on it for many years as a little kid, having no idea how it worked, and it was only in more recent years when I actually finished it. What I meant by it feeling like a finale, was this is one of the only games where Link gets the whole Triforce. That, and the fantastic soundtrack at the credits. I hadn't noticed until I really payed attention, but the staff roll theme begins as a major version of the prologue theme. It literally resolves.
Thanks for the recap I don't remember much of this game as I had turned 21 and started smoking weed around this time I know I beat the game but have very little recollection of it as I remember most other games that I've played and defeated prior and since
Oh my gosh... I played this game as a kid and an adult, both times I thought I NEARLY made it to the end. Noooooo no no no, I was only about halfway through it. IF that.
Such a nice explanation. But we all know, the Master Sword will never rest; and so won't Zelda, Link and Fi. :) And by extend Ganondorf, as he's just a victim to Demise's curse as well.

This is my favorite Zelda game. I don't say that lightly, almost all of them are incredible.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
World shifting dungeons and a butt load of cool items that is what made a link to the past the best game
Great videos, my guy. Appreciate the quality and plus you have a pleasant voice!

@@Xygor damn it's been a while since this comment haha. It's been a while since I've loaded up LTTP. I did just dust off the SNES Mini...
Your stories explained videos are awesome. I hope you keep up the great work and make more of these great videos. Thanks!!

I'm so glad you do these, I loved this game when I was a kid.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
Another banger, great work man! The rest of the series never never reached the level that ALttP did (for me) until BotW.
Thanks man. This is my favorite of the series. I've never played Breath of the Wild or Skyward Sword, though.
By the way, Chrono Trigger is next, and it's probably going to be my most epic video yet.
@@Xygor I was a nay sayer myself about BotW until I tried it, but it really does deserve the praise it gets. It really is something special.
@@Xygor Hell yeah! I love ALttP but Chrono Trigger is where it's at!
ALttP is the best in the series by far. I just wish I had a SNES still to play it again
I really loved Ocarina of Time but this one is just the best... and the memories I have about it... I have played this game through at least 50 times... no even more...
Excellent editing, and pacing. Great job!
Thank you very much!
@@Xygor I’m playing the game for my first time. I’m about 25% the way through. So unfortunately, I had to stop the video as to not ruin any further story. But I’m not very good at picking up the story, so this will be a video I’ll be saving for sure. To come back at and look.
Also I cannot believe you squeezed all this goodness into 18 min!
Not as many details as the Final Fantasy games so I can get away with it!
This has to be the best top down Zelda game, hands down. Link Between Worlds comes really close.
I agree with you!
Quick tip: When fighting Trinexx shoot the colored heads once with the rods and then continuously with the sword until they die.
brilliant
Nice!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
@@Xygor when I wrote this comment I was in the middle of playing it. Then I started playing Earthbound for the first time.
Now after Christmas, I own a Switch and am trying BOTW for the very first time.
Two new features for the SNES, I think, made this Zelda game my favorite Zelda game:
1) The game designers mentioned how the SNES allowed for at least two graphic layers.
I binged all of these episodes :( I need more!

After watching this video I really want to play this game. Time to fire up the SNES Classic!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
My mind still reels with the realization that though this game is released before Ocarina of Time, it chronologically takes place after Ocarina of Time, after an outcome where Ganondorf defeats Hero of Time Link.
This game is definitely at the top tier of all-time favorite video games list.
Isn't it great?
@@Xygor sure is! I still play it every now and then on my modded PS Vita. 😁
Thanks for this. Needed to watch it before playing A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS, since it's supposed to be a sequel

The golden land story with the picture battle of heroes man that is so epic.

@@Xygor no I haven't but thanks for reminding me 😅
I found my brothers game boy and it had this game in it so I started to play. It’s a fun game but I was confused on the story. Thanks for the video, I now understand :)
I wish they would make “A link to the past” again
But this time make it in the same style of “Breath of the wild”
When I was a kid, I always thought the dwarves were hammering away on a loaf of French bread lol
Nice! Haha!
You forgot to mention that Link’s uncle died because he fought and lost to Aghanim. You also didn’t mention that Aghanim is merely a puppet of Ganon.
he said aghanim was ganon altor ego. but where in the game does it say links uncle fought aghanim?
It’s because Link’s uncle tried to strike Aghanim (remember he’s invulnerable to normal swords) that he was felled. It’s in the game somewhere and in the comic as well.
really enjoyed watching these zelda vids keep em up

I’m loving these videos and will keep watching whatever you put out, I want to ask if you are not at the moment can you please do the breath of fire games please and possibly a complete time line of them all after? It would be great content and for sure keep you busy. I can’t be the only one that thinks those games are up there with the other RPGS. Just an idea I think you would knock out of the park.
Hi... can you do one of these for Mario Kart 64? I'm struggling to follow how they are competing together with the history of violence and kidnapping.
Nicely done 😎
Thank you!
need to make these vids for the ocerana and majorad games
I will eventually
Great stuff, always like it.
Thanks, glad you liked it! Many more to come!
Please flow up with a link between worlds
is that final fantasy 6 music at the end
What a game this was. I remember getting it when it was new and being a bit apprehensive about it. I hated Zelda 2 and while I was happy this game played like the first I felt like I was taking a big chance on it. Then I played it and almost instantaneously I loved it. The gameplay, graphics, and sound were so incredible for the time I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was truly a showstopping watershed moment for gaming.

It's been quite awhile since I have played Zelda: A Link to The Past.

An audio drama for the game hints that Agahnim was originally going to be Ganondorf.

@@Xygor not yet lol I always stop the game before Ganon I've never beat him yet

A fun little Easter egg I used to defeat Agahnim instead of the Master Sword is the Bug Catching Net. So since you don't technically need the Master Sword to defeat him, if only you could get to him without getting the sword...
You can use the magic Cape to walk through the beam
@@Tana-hs8hzbut dont you get the cape after getting to the dark world?
If you ever get a chance, look up the nintendo power artwork and story for this game. It's stuck with me all this time, and it's amazing artwork!
It really is!
I always did 6 first and used the kane to bypass the long puzzle in 5
Please do all the other ones to. That would be awesome I really like these.

I have an original SNES with Link to the Past.
"You shouldn't have done that!" Weres my furry booty.
