This perfectly shows why when we talk about video games we need to separate story (stuff like character development, conversations, actions that actually move a plot forward) and narrative (the story that the player forms in their head when they put together all their actions in the game).
I am 13 and this is in my top 3 zelda games its a nice simple adventure and its fun despite the difficulty i really enjoyed this game first and second quest
So say it’s your first time playing Zelda and you don’t know anything about the game and name your character Zelda thinking that’s the main characters name , not Link.
@@Xygor Are you planning to do the rest of the Zelda games? I know they don't have much of the same continuity, from what I see. But these would still be awesome! I'm gonna check out the other series too! Seems like you have more franchises that I wanted to learn about! Keep up this awesome work man!
Thank you so much for making this! For whatever reason, I can't get into pixel games and can't seem to stand them, so being able to learn the lore instead of having to watch a 2-hour lets play is really really nice. Thank you so much!
Yeah... it takes a deal of patience to play pixel retro games. Not so much because of the graphics but due to the hard obstacles. Since such games lacked enough memory, the way to make these games challenging was to put rough obstacles and challenges that you are only able to overcome by ‘finger dexterity’. Modern games are not challenging because of such obstacles but mostly because of brainstorming puzzles.
Pixel games?! Are you nuts? You’re missing out on some of the best video games of all time. I’m only 8 years old and my only console is a PS5 and gaming PC. I traded both of those for an NES, SNES and couldn’t be happier. Pixel games. Pfff. The juxtaposition one finds itself after seeking graphical perfection. Nostalgia is powerful indeed, but negligent considering the premium and unmatched gameplay of the early consoles. 8 bits is enough for this 8 year old.
Man, I appreciate this video so much. Gives me more info than Wikipedia, but is concise. I really didn't feel like watching a playthrough because games of this era just don't do it for me as a viewer. Also I am not particularly good at video games so if I tried to play it myself, I would never be able to finish it.

1:01 he seems to have gotten more intelligent since his last canonical appearance in a link between worlds maybe he got that from yuga that's my theory
And yes Nintendo did remake zelda 1 for the SNES however you would have had to have been in Japan and downloaded the game via some sort of add on lucky people did and I guess they uploaded the roms online if you want to find a video of it just look up bs legend of zelda
These are fun to watch. Thought it was funny you said it was chronological, but don't mention getting the blue ring and white sword until later when you have them in level 1! Also left out the letter in order to obtain the potions as well as the book.
The one thing which bothered me ever since I first owned the game when it was released, yes I'm that old is that you only recovered two of the three Triforces Wisdom and Power the Triforce of Courage wouldn't be recovered until Zelda II The Adventure of Link. So it would seem that Nintendo was already planning a sequel.
I saw that the swords her used to be the game were not explained earlier when he was using them. Instead, she showed them separately after the fact he has already obtained before to beat the dungeons.
This was good, except when you spoke about the 2 triforces and showed 2 pictures of the complete triforce... it makes it sound like they are completely seperate triforces, which is misleading. The triforce of power, is just the top triangle in the triforce pictures that you showed, and the triforce of wisdom is the bottom left. The bottom right triangle, which was introduced in zelda ii, is the triforce of courage
one of my biggest questions were how were players able to find the entrance to level 7 and Death mountain? Were there any clues or hints in the game, manual ? or were players at the time just bombing and burning everything to find it ?
I’m going to Like this video in spite of the fact that the Magic Book and Grumble, Grumble Bait quest are ignored. Friendly ribbing, this is great. I’m gonna show my boys, who love BotW, but haven’t gotten into Zelda 1.
The game is nowhere near that hard, I swear people have no drive or perseverance anymore. I beat it the year it was released at the ripe old age of eight.
Great content! Question: Isn’t it kind of pointless that Zelda broke up the triforce of wisdom into 8 pieces just for Link to have to go find them all so he can save her?
The idea of a 3rd peice wasn't created yet in real life but in universe this game is at the end of the downfall timeline so possibly over time the triforce of courage after the hero of time died shattered? Idk it's not really explained.
Bro I was waiting for cutscenes when I downloaded the rom..I’m 24 and never played this and feel like a fool for a second... I was expecting a triple a cutscene lol I’m ridiculous sometimes lol

Knowing this game's first and second quests gave you mad status on the playground in second and third grades..

Seemed like you enjoyed making it just as much! Can't wait for the other videos!
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is next!
Small detail. The blue ring is supposed to give a light blue robe to link, but it’s so light usually is treated as white
So say it’s your first time playing Zelda and you don’t know anything about the game and name your character Zelda thinking that’s the main characters name , not Link.
Yeah, this probably did happen a lot!
Lol my bro did that in majora's mask even though when it says put your name link is already set as the name. He changed to Zelda LOO
Instant hard mode...
If you put Zelda in the original game, it started you on the second quest.

That jumanji symbol in level 3 looks like that naughty symbol on pap's uniform
This is well said!

Are the dungeon enemies and bosses part of Ganon's forces or are they there to protect the Triforce fragments from being found?

This was great, just finished GameGrumps series on this and needed a recap of the storyline just in case I missed bits (which I did).
The good game grumps with jontron? Or the other one?
Clifton Sargent the one with danny
Blayze McDonagh oh 😬😬😬

I also do not agree with the Zelda II map he proposed, that Zelda I is within.

nice work . please make Golden sun Complete Story .
👍 good work
Is it a tri force if there is only two?
I guess you’ll have to look at Zelda II to find out...
I've heard people state this question beforeand my answer is... because each Triforce has three sides. TRI-angle = TRI-force
Patrick Turner ohhh good point
from which game is the theme played at the end of the video?
Final Fantasy VI
7:47 is that a swastika in the top left? Lol
That's actually an ancient symbol for luck or fortune. The Swastika is flipped the other way. Nazis ruined a perfectly innocent thing.
it's a manji
@Kampy187 You could try, but you'd be wrong. The manji has been a Buddhist symbol for centuries.
I was today years old when I realized the map easter egg shown at 0:41
Same. I'm 37 years old, been playing zelda since the first game came out, and never knew that :)
Great content! Question: Isn’t it kind of pointless that Zelda broke up the triforce of wisdom into 8 pieces just for Link to have to go find them all so he can save her?
No because Ganon would’ve had 2 Triforce pieces and it would be virtually impossible to beat him
Spelling mistake in the description *Nintendo Entertainment System
The reason why link's name is Link is because he's the thing that can link the triforce pieces.
For the longest time I thought his name was Zelda ~_~

Blue ring turns Link blue bro... baby blue but still blue. Your colors on your CRT must be off.
but where is the 3rd Triforce in this game ? Triforce of courage ...
I actually don't think the Triforce of Courage was really created as part of canon until after this game.
Not till the Adventures of Link.
