As much as I'd like to say it's a cute end, it's kind of weird to take a person to your house for dinner without properly informing them, and especially after you made it clear you're taking them home.
For me the most memorable part is the general atmosphere. I love all the dialogue and how it just feels like you're walking around talking to neighborhood folk, helping people with their problems, meanwhile all that everyday stuff is bringing you closer to undoing an evil force. Then finally you're faced with the most evil power in the universe and all you can do is pray. What a great game...I just played through it for the umpteenth time this month and your video made me want to start right back up again. What a perfect game.
I remember as a kid waking up one morning and saying to myself... " today's the day ". Went to school, got that nonsense done, and as i walked home picked me up some soda and snacks. Soon as I got home, didn't even bother with homework, went STRAIGHT to Earthbound. I was at the village of all those Mr Saturn folk, and saved JUST before the time machine that would send our souls back in time. I. WAS. READY. ....I was not ready, btw. LOL 10 Levels underleveled, and 4 hours later, I finally fought off Pokey and got to the last boss. Took another 30 mins of just trying to stay alive, and at the end of it all... there was little I could even do. ...And then we prayed... And before long, the game was done. I look back on this with fond memories. The laughs I had, the utter confusion this game forced upon me, the ups and downs. And there, at the end.... not going to lie, I was in tears... but happy. Final Fantasy 6 is what got me into stories. Kingdom Hearts 1 is what made me want to become an artist. ...But it was Earthbound that helped me understand my place in the world. That... and that strange things tend to be the most fun. Specially with zombies around. ^ _^
My most memorable moment was when you leave pokey’s house, the sky lights up and the onett theme starts playing. It felt magical to be able to explore the town without limits for the first time.
1. Tony is in love with Jeff. Something which was unheard of in a 90s game. Actually, pretty much everything in the entire game was unheard of in the 90s. The game was years ahead of it’s time. That’s why it’s memorable. 2. The final battle has an image of a fetus combined that the game is called Mother. And 3. The amazing ending and credits. That ending! That music! Perhaps the best ever on SNES along with FF3 and Chrono.
I just wish Tony was in the game more often, because he was a very enjoyable character that I enjoyed seeing whenever he'd appear. Also maybe more scenes of him pining for Jeff that could've been nice. But maybe I'm expecting too much from this tiny 90's game. Love EarthBound either way
"Fuzzy Pickles!" Definitely one of my fondest memories. This game was a blast when it first came out! I played it as a teenager back in the 90's. It was SO unique compared to my other favorite RPG's. Still love it! Thanks for the awesome video and trip down memory lane Xygor!
I was 11 when I bought this game in the 90s. The only reason I got it was because the box was huge, and it was on sale. Was and is the greatest and most memorable game I ever played.
The most memorable moment for me was absolutely Jeff's introduction. Ness and Paula being kidnapped and suddenly it cuts to the boarding school. And the music... God, the track Snowman just triggers so many memories of my life from so long ago. We didn't deserve a game that's anywhere near as beautiful as this, and it's easily one of the best games ever made in my opinion, up there with Super Metroid and Mario.
My most memorable part of EarthBound was the scratch 'n sniff cards for the enemies. Also, the mandatory player's guide that came with the game was amazing in providing content local information with fake travel agency advertisement content.
Not sure if this is common knowledge or not but if you have a wii u you can get earthbound beginnings (mother 1) and earthbound (mother 2) on the eshop. After playing it once on a rom in grade school my friend bought both these for me this year for christmas (12 years later) and its the best gift i have ever recieved. An official version of one of the greatest games ive ever played.
Props to you for taking the time to lay out this story for people like me who’ve always planned on playing this game but haven’t gotten to it yet. I o ow now that this game deserves a play through. Keep up the hard work and your channel will become legendary.
Do yourself a favor and play it! I did it recently for the first time ever, just a couple of weeks ago, and it was even better than what I expected (and my expectations were extremely high). It's just as good as everyone says it is, or even better if you ask me.
I liked 'gaming' the system.. using rock candy in battle with sugar packs, to get insane stat increases.. Doing about 16 sugar packs per character, before leveling up, gave very nice, massive stat gains in HP and psi points. I also, at the very first time you can pay for hints, i started to pay for every single hint in the game and wrote them all down. It took ages.. I did this on what must have been my eighth or so playthrough, just to have fun. The monster that gives you the most EXP ins the master criminal worm, outside Dahla, it's a red worm that runs from you.
A video like this for Mother 1 (Earthbound Beginnings) would be really useful The story is interesting but it's kind of a slog to play for most people so it could use a beat-by-beat overview
Best memories as a 10 year old. Moved into a new house, summertime, no furniture. Just a sleeping bag, my best friend, pizza hut, and the huge guide. My friend and I took shifts playing this and ff6 for like a week straight.
I always walked by this in Blockbuster as a kid and never tried it bought the SNES classic and this was one of the first games played. I am mid 30s and enjoyed it. Know that I would have loved it and Zelda games as a kid if i ever tried. Love the open world concept and being able to choose where to go, what to skip
Thank you so much for covering this game! Best memory was the music for sure, I did hate how much my attacks would miss! You are covering all my favorite games. I’m still stoked you did suikoden 1-2. Ever gonna do final fantasy tactics???
Something I liked about Earthbound was how it kept it somewhat grounded in reality, not as epic fantasy scale as Final Fantasy. The main cast were kids, so it reminded me of those classic 80s and 90s films where a group of kids had to tackle a greater foe: Monster Squad, Stand By Me and the likes!
30:37 If we link undertale's Sans to Ness, the mission to defeat Gigyas could've meant the Ness' soul could have been trapped in Time and Space and you could reference the fact that Sans can use Psychic Powers too and that Sans' abilities are those of Time manipulation, teleportation, psychic control, and various other things that could make this theory valid. It's probably why Sans is like a young adult. And why Sans says he wants to go home. Even in Undertale you can find his lab where there was sans and some unfamiliar people along with a note that had illegible handwriting which would mean that Mr. Saturn could've been the one to have written the note. There's also Gaster who we don't see at all and mostly every theory suggests that Gaster was trying to send Sans back to his original body but failed in the process. People say it doesn't link but don't remember how Undertale was based off of Earthbound. Even when Toby Fox made the Halloween Hack Rom Hack for Earthbound, it played the very first "Megalovania" where he would be sent into fame by his creation. There's so many Easter eggs that could suggest the two are based off of each other and we can even base Chara off of Gigyas since Chara can also manipulate time and space. Edit: 32:59 onward about the Photo album. You can find the same photo album in Sans' Lab. Honestly, it could be why the names of Ness and Sans have 4 letters and both use an apostrophe at the end of their names to address anything pertaining to them like Ness' Franklin Badge or Sans' Lab. Thats why you also don't ever see "Ness" in anything in Undertale because of Copyright reasons. So much can go into the theory but in order for a theory to be a theory, people have to be open minded. That's why I hate how people always sh1t on theories. It's because it wouldn't be a theory if we have any evidence that suggests it. This would become hypothetical or a hypothesis if we had solid evidence. Seems like people missed out in science class
Recording the melody of Giant Step has got to be a Coltrane reference. Especially with the whole jazz band stuff and the sound track being pretty dang jazzy as well
@Xygor Gaming Thank you😊 I've been hoping for this particular complete story for awhile now. Haven't watched it yet, just wanted to say thank you and glad I'm subscribed beforehand👍
When i was 10 in i rented this game from video vault or roadrunner video....it came with a guide. It was the first rpg i ever played and actually understood(other than willow on nes but i was too young to understand what was even happening in that game or that ot was a rpg i just knew it was willow) the guide actually helped me understand the mechanics of an rpg. I miss this game. If you have any chance to play it DO IT
I just beat it on my SNES classic, one of the best games I ever played. I feel Nintendo should remake the Mother series and release it on the Switch. Keep the gameplay the same and make it how games look today.
I kinda feel like I want to play these games after watching the first 10 min. Never really had the urge to but the story, so far, sounds really interesting
Rented this game from a cheap video rental store in 95/96, got near the end and the game erased my save file! Had to buy it again a few years later at a funcoland, wished I kept it! Cost me a fortune to buy it again.
My favorite moment has to be after you beat giygas and you get the letters from your mom and stuff. It always makes me tear up because earthbound just gave such a warm feeling. Speaking to npcs was like saying bye to them.
Can someone please tell me the name of the song in the intro? I have heard it in bits and pieces and it sounds familiar but it's killing me that I haven't heard the song in its entirety.
My favorite moment is when you arrive at giygas base (the organ place) it just has the feeling of ( this is it you played for a long time for this moment the fate of the planet is in your hands)
Reached the part where they give you the mushroom problem that changes your controls and make this hard to play on 3ds... Maybe if it is on switch I can replay to that part and rotate my joycon as needed until I finish that part of the game.
One of my favorite JRPG's, but the Fourside Department Store Dungeon can legit burn in a car fire, the enemy damage and HP is to great for the average level upon arrival. I have to grind like 6 levels in the desert and STOCK bottle rockets just to make it to the third floor. The only other part close is Majicant but that's mostly because Ness is alone.
Earthbound is memorable for so many big and little things... But my experience with it is a little different. Might've tried it out at the Gamestown shop at Noord Scharwoude in the 90's (Fantastic shop where you could playtest ANY game before buying, also had imported games and errrh... technical upgrades for consoles so you could play those), but I did my first full playthrough after playing Mother 3. Definitely a non-standard game, but a fantastic one. Mr. Saturn are adorable, Giygas is disturbing yet pitiable and Pokey/Porkey falling under the same terms (as per the end of M3) is a little sad. Off beat humor and the alternative contemporary setting make it work even more. I do like the little details, like one npc warning you that someone did #2 basically in the sand, and that you can have the misfortune of walking too close and experiencing the lingering aroma.
EarthBound was a fantastic game that was unlike anything else out there. The art and sound was completely unique and unlike anything else on the snes. I still have the cartridge which is worth a good amount these days
never played these games but I was curious about the story. but now im more curious as to what happened to the dog they were traveling with in the first game when they were on their way to the meteorite !
33:22 maybe he js forming some sort of gang maybe he is building a city who knows because the sequel was only relessed in japa- ohh a translated version
I wonder if the melody you gather at the sanctuaries is the same one you used to beat Giyig in mother 1. And if it is designed to confront a persons inner evil. What if Giyig failed and became Gygas.
I didn’t have the opportunity to play this as a kid. But how much it reminds me of Pokémon Red makes me feel nostalgic for it. I would love to play it.. Does anyone know where you can get an emulator? Or know if it’s been re-released to any more recent game systems?
Man, I completely tuned out around the 4 minute mark. I guess this is the type of story you really have to experience by yourself aided by interactive nature of a videogame. This way just comes across as a convoluted mess. I hope I get to play these games someday.

The part where i will eventually play it
Learning the hard way that "Auto" wouldn't win all my battles for me.
Sancuary 2 Cause its Hard And Giygas Cause ScAaArY
My big sister had to help me beat Threed when I was a kid because the music gave me nightmares! 💀
After Fourside because you didn't have to do any random tasks to move the story along and also because the game became a bit more challenging.
Alternate ending:
Take Paula to your home in Onett. When you talk to Ness's mother ,she will let Paula stay for dinner.
Thank you Manny, didn't know that!
I've played through this game like 12 times in my life and I never thought to try that. That's cute as heck!
That's the first ending I did. Also funny enough, Tracy calls Paula Ness' girlfriend.
As much as I'd like to say it's a cute end, it's kind of weird to take a person to your house for dinner without properly informing them, and especially after you made it clear you're taking them home.

Thanks for sharing these memories!
EarthBound was a fantastic game that was unlike anything else out there. The art and sound was completely unique and unlike anything else on the snes.
I still have the cartridge which is worth a good amount these days
Wasn't it though? It is worth a lot!
7:24 I think this cult is based off of a real life cult called aum shinrikyo who out responcible for the Tokyo subway train attack
I can see how this inspired Undertale, it feels like some sort spin-off game for Earthbound.
Nice job! Awesome video, are you gonna do the one with Lucas?? I'll watch it for sure
that’s called Mother 3
The theme I kept hearing in the game several times was "My Way" by Frank Sinatra. Peculiar don't you think? 😅
i loved how wacky the game was truly a refreshing take on rpgs
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
Best game I’ve ever played
Wasn't it great?
7:34 ... it is
But, wrong blue
Dark blue is for sadness
Light blue is for happines.
I had worked out a rationale explaining that the Photo Man was in fact your dad.
So this is why I'm at a loss whenever someone asks me what this game is about.
One of the most bizarre games I've ever played.
It really was, wasn't it?
i get confused when i play this but this video will point me where to go
never played these games but I was curious about the story. but now im more curious as to what happened to the dog they were traveling with in the first game when they were on their way to the meteorite !
Literally one of the first things buzz buzz says is "A bee i am not lmao"
33:22 maybe he js forming some sort of gang maybe he is building a city who knows because the sequel was only relessed in japa- ohh a translated version
what is that intro theme
Magus' Theme from Chrono Trigger.
This is the most hallucinogenic shi I've ever heard in my life. Thanks for the video cause there's no way I'm playing this myself.
I wonder if the melody you gather at the sanctuaries is the same one you used to beat Giyig in mother 1. And if it is designed to confront a persons inner evil. What if Giyig failed and became Gygas.
They are the same .
I always thought one of giygas' forms should have been a large red Starman with shoulder spikes like Starman DX
Optional Ending. You can elect to take Paula to Ness’s home. Talk to Ness’s mother twice and roll the credits that way
I wish there was a real Runaway Five. Best part of the game.
Check out The Blues Brothers
They were hilarious!
I apparently missed the clues about going back to fourside and went from summers to desert and completely missed both sanctuaries 5 and 6
I didn’t have the opportunity to play this as a kid. But how much it reminds me of Pokémon Red makes me feel nostalgic for it. I would love to play it.. Does anyone know where you can get an emulator? Or know if it’s been re-released to any more recent game systems?
my most memorable aspect is the cameraman anoyying me to the point I would reset my snes without saving and quit
Haha, nice memory!
Man, I completely tuned out around the 4 minute mark. I guess this is the type of story you really have to experience by yourself aided by interactive nature of a videogame. This way just comes across as a convoluted mess. I hope I get to play these games someday.
Emulation is free and really the only way to experience these classics :)
Def do yourself a favor and play it. The monkey cave is a pain in the ass tho
Did you know? The only characters that appeared in all three games were the monkeys.
I did not know that, thanks!
Can you do the story of Earthbound Beginnings, as well as Mother 3?
Maybe in the future!
Only thing I didn’t like was how powerful the multi bottle rocket is. Easy to beat every boss once you got a few of those
Those are crazy strong!
Subbed
Thank you!
Word: Kraken
Xygor: “Kray-Kin”
That seems like such a fun game! I'm sad I never got to play it myself :c
Go and play it! :)
You still can!
