The trial near he beginning of the game is the most memorable part to me. I always stole that old mans lunch at the fair so he always goes hard when he testifies against me during the trial lol.
It's all so memorable! As soon as I think of one (the campfire scene), I think of another (the Mammon Machine) or another (turning off Nu Belthasar) or another (Marle's despair at finding Lavos' guiding hand in evolution). It really was the work of a dream team!
I highly recommend downloading the "Schala Edition" version that has the proper translation and bonus content. The dialog between the Reptile King and Crono and the gang is wayyyy different. Even Ayla saying the translation of the word Lavos
Me too, I’m 37 and grown to like a variety of things and taken on typical adult responsibilities; but Chrono Trigger and it’s music brings me back to a certain place in childhood.
The music of this game always transports me back to my childhood. Check out Kara Comparetto on RUclips, she covers a lot of JRPG music, CT included, with some fantastic arrangements.
My 35 year old heart is so happy listening to this account of the story of Chrono Trigger. It's the one RPG I've replayed over and over throughout the years that have passed. Thank you for this amazing recount
I felt the same way as a 37 year old man(this is my gf’s account). You really really should check out the Chrono Break trailer, it’s an absolutely beautiful imagining of a graphically enhanced 2d sequel. Just discovered it myself before watching this. Man I wish it was real
Goddammit Robo possibly not existing still tears me up. All he wanted to do was be with his friends and he grew a forest for 400 years waiting for them. He’s the best
I felt so sad for Robo. Melchoir: “I’m teaching everyone magic! Oh… Except you, cause you’re a machine. Awkward….” And there was something so melancholy about Robo and of course that entire time period. When I played this as a young teen in 1996, it hit me hard because most games were not interested in telling such a profound story.
Same, played it when I was 13 and recently replayed the expanded NDS/Android port. That dream devourer fight tho, and the extra Magus event kinda show what could've been in Chrono Cross :(
I played the hell out of it as a kid but i was very bad at keeping the right heading, so i have a lot of early game time. I got the game on the wii when that was new, beat the game a few time collected mostly everything. My friends and a cousin would always be on chrono trigger or ff6
I just finished Chrono Trigger this 2020 and I really love the plot, characters, gameplay and everything about it! The time travel idea and how all events were connected was truly cleverly written. You can tell they totally put their heart and soul in this game :)
My little brother thanked me for forcing him to play this game. I couldn’t let him miss out on this. I’m in my 40’s now and when my son’s reading comprehension (he’s only 4)is able to understand the game I’ll make him play it too. The game teaches you about love, ambition, sacrifice and death. The game is good enough to encourage reading. I hope all other dads do the same.
my dad did this for me! i remember this game so fondly but i also remember the way it made me feel. it was hard to understand the topics alone at a young age, even with very high reading comprehension! just make sure you ask about the game while he plays and make sure he's able to fully understand the topics at hand, and you're not leaving him alone !
Damn right. I have it on my Gameboy DS Lite and when my kids are old enough, I'm passing on my DS for them to play. Closest thing I have to a family heirloom.
Don't forget the legend of zelda link to the past, final fantasy 2, 3, 7. All great for comprehension, problem solving, building heroic values 👍

I was practicing my English and started to watch English content. When RUclips recommends me this video I never imagined the amazing history behind Chrono Trigger. I played it when I was a child but I couldn't understand nothing... Until this moment. Thank you for making this video :)
Without at least some basic reading comprehension, a person could not progress in this game even to the events at the fair...except for maybe fighting Gato and drinking beer lol
If you never played chrono trigger before, and somehow see this comment before you see any major spoilers in this video, know you are missing out on the literal peak of rpg games as a whole
Literally the best game ever made. At the tip-top, up there with Zelda OoT, FF7, Dark Souls, Elden Ring, JSRF, Mario 64, Windwaker, XCX, just to name a few of my all time favs. This game reigns as the undisputed king 😊
Chrono Trigger is and always shall be my favorite video game of all time. Simply a brilliant telling; even if some of the story notes can be a bit contradicting at times. In any case, this was brilliant to listen to and watch, bringing back happy memories of my times playing it. Also; I think its time I replay it again.
Hear hear! There are excellent games that moved me or changed my life in some way, or pushed me to deep fandom craziness for a few months, others that I've sunk 500ish hours in joyfully grinding away, some that shifted how I approach games in general, and yet still others that have achieved peak artfullness in my eyes, but these twelve or so games are sitting on my #2 plateau, waiting for a new addition every 3 years or so, right below grandaddy Chrono Trigger, and aren't run-on sentences a thing that exists
The fact that all of the story is approached by an observational perspective from the player with a minimized amount of exposition, gives the game an experience as having lived in the cycle of events rather than merely being a victim of circumstance.
Dong Harvey reminds me of that episode of Star Trek where Captain Picard gets mind-jacked by a satellite and lives a life on a dying world. We didn’t just see this story, we were there; we lived it; we felt it.
Man the story so deep, complex but not convoluted, perfectly balanced. Even better than many movies. Its a work of Art indeed, and here we are 2022 we still no remake to be made.
I think it's great and for my taste, the sequel chrono cross was way overboard with the complexity and it was convoluted as hell, so in my opinion not a good sequel, rather a spin-off
Wait, that's hilarious, I never realized that Chrono saving queen Leene created the same criminal justice system that would arrest him later, they even use the chancellor sprite...
@@gaymerjerry Prior to these events, Marle hasn't disappeared, and Crono isn't a criminal suspect. Considering Marle wants nothing to do with her nobility, I concluded that it was a part of her rebellion, that the kingdom was nothing like Marle, and she hated it, and this insane trial and the king's unwillingness to listen to his daughter were related. After I learned about this connection with the change in the criminal justice system, I realize that if Marle had grown up in the evil kingdom in the alternate timeline, she likely would have become a different person. The fact that she is such a good person shows she wasn't raised with such injustice in her own kingdom.
@@michaelscott-joynt3215 by that logic lucca should of forgot her mother losing the use of her legs after saving her mom but she doesnt your applying time travel laws from other works of fiction to chrono trigger
Not quite. Robo's model was created before the world went into ruin. His existence didn't depend on Lavos emerging, unlike the later itterations created by the Mother Machine.
@@Knuffeldraak Besides, one of the endings shows him recreating Chrono and Marle's meeting with himself and Atropos in a futuristic version of Leene Square, so yes, he does survive. :-) No worries!
@@Caladcholg yeah I felt so bad and Mother Brain became FATE thanks to Balthasar. I thought the storyline was really good in Chrono Cross. I wish they actually allowed us to recruit some of the original characters. I always renamed Magil as Magus, because he reminded me of our former mystic leader.
I finished my first ending a few hours ago, PC port, at 25 years old. There's no way I would've figured this game out as my kid self lol. The story is deep and goes on for ages. According to Steam I put 44 hours in just to get one ending...10+ more to go. The music sticks to your heart too, like a Miyazaki movie soundtrack. I can't believe this much soul and creativity went into a game that's as old as me. Action games now might have the incredible graphics and AI...but bloated with all this instant satisfaction, dopamine-hit content where you're just faffing away with weapons instead of building a story from the ground up. I'm happy to have experienced the classic-ness of this game...even if I've been pronouncing "Chrono" incorrectly 😅
o yeh. by now u mayyyy have noticed... this video, while 100% correct for SNES version... isnt accurate for anything after the DS port. atleast not for 100% :P

I've been watching RUclips for years and years now, and this video is well up there with the ones I've enjoyed the best. Great way to go through the game again while not having the time to do it.
The trouble with Chrono Cross is, there is no one single cannon. The game gives you different RNG characters to recruit whenever you play. Sure all characters exist in the game, but only set numbers will be recruited.
@@Xygor I played it last year (well 2 years ago now) during the summer for the first time. I never really grew up with the game or anything, hell the game’s older than I am. But eventually finding this game was a chain reaction of found love for JRPGs when I played Octopath Traveler’s demo a few years ago. That was the game that got me into JRPGs and eventually lead me to final fantasy and then Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger's story and lore is so fascinating! I love the idea of a "perfect Utopian world" that is considered to be literally and figuratively above those that are unworthy. Combine that with an ultra powerful alien bent on feeding off of the world & destroying it, along with time traveling, with each timeline having their own plights, struggles, wars, celebrations, and full-fledged story. The game combines sci-fi, fantasy, and apocalypse all into an RPG that was released nearly 25 years ago. The way each timeline interwoven is within each other is brilliant! Not to mention the game-play, music, side-quests, and even multiple endings?!? I wish I had this game as a kid, I first played it on a DS while traveling to California for the first time, which is a memory I'll have for the rest of my life. I know I went on a tangent, but this game is just such a masterpiece. How can a single game have so many elements and genres, and pull it all off so perfectly? The sheer amount of times the game blew my mind with areas and shocking reveals and the huge scope of attempting to prevent an apocalyptic end to the world, it is absolutely crazy! In one game you travel to prehistoric times, a far off past with futuristic technology mixed with magic, medieval times, modern times, and an apocalyptic dystopian future. Usually i'm very critical of time traveling to fix the future, as I find it an uninspiring & overdone trope, but Chrono Trigger pulls it off perfectly, and is probably the only case where I love using time traveling as a concept. Perhaps it was a pretty new concept in 1995, but I first played the game in 2010-ish, so I was so over time travel by then, and yet Chrono Trigger blew me away like no other. Kudos to everyone who worked on the game, and to Xygor Gaming for this fantastic video showcasing the complete Chrono Trigger Story! Definitely going to subscribe!
one of the greatest stories ever told is that of the Christ savior figure character (matrix) the main character shares similar characteristics as he was dead and is resurrected.
I didn't actually played this game, but it gave me so much impact. When I was in 6th grade, I watched my elder brother play this game every afternoon after school till he beat it, for twice. Not just its story, but also the way it present it. It still remain the BEST JRPG for me.
Ozzie = Ozzy Osborne, lead singer of Black Sabbath Slash = Saul Hudson, lead guitarist for Guns ‘N Roses Flea = Michael Balzary, bassist and founder of Red Hot Chili Peppers *The More You Know*
The Greatest game ever... Remember being 10 years old, playing this, I used to hate "RPG"s" but "Secret of Mana" had opened my mind to RPG's, but you could run and slash, not just "Stand there" like Final Fantasy on Super Nintendo etc.... Then I played this, bought the game... Blew my mind... Just seeing this, inspired me to want to write movies and video games... The greatest game, music, etc.. made me love RPG's, and get into it. The best, hands down. Though, I love "Secret of Mana" and it will always have a soft spot in my heart, but, Chrono Trigger is the best... Stands the test of time, music, genre, artwork, etc... The best.
Secret of mana was a perfect introduction into the rpg environment, my cousin and I called, a baby rpg. Although 2 player and combat was, leveling is fun, story is a bit rough and grindy but still great
Came here from The Game Grinder sharing on Twitter and man oh man you knocked this out of the park, dude. I thought I understood the entire storyline but this clarified so many misunderstandings I had. Seriously GREAT job on this.
Like the video said there is also a couple alternatie things that can happen. You can actually Fight Lavos way earlier as soon as you get Robo and get to the End of Time, not like you stand a chance then. Plus when you are ready to fight him there are 3 different ways you can actually initiate the battle, with one of them allowing you to sacrifice the Epoch by crashing into Lavos and skipping the outer shell fight.
The entity that wanted Crono and his friends to experience all of this was... Nu. All life begins with Nu and ends with Nu. You see they play important roles throughout the story, and they would know the key events in the timeline. Did you know Spekkio's final form (when the player reaches level 99) is Nu? Think about that, it's the End of Time. I think that connects Nu to the course of history. This is the truth. This is my belief. At least for now.
Seems legit, at the same time I think nu is an analogy for the writers themselves or the player. I find the best stories are the ones where the heroes low-key figure out theyre in a story, and that their God likes and encourages interesting plot twists. Examples: Planetary, Sandman, fantastic four, warhammer
The story on this game is done perfectly. Music is top tier and the game was extremely fun. Balanced levels and enemies. To me this was THE perfect JRPG of all time. Especially props to the story, time travel has been overdone and always have some weird plot hole. This was done perfectly and I love how every character is relevant. Every character has a backstory and that each side quest allows you to find closure for all the characters in the party. The whole idea that Magus was seen as this dark lord but was Janus trying to kill Lavos this whole time and Crono actually died but was saved. The fact that every time period was relevant and you have to go back and forth on all time periods throughout the game. Everything was perfect. I just wish for a modern remake of this.
When I walked through the human encampment after Zeal was shot down by Lavos, I had Magus at the head of my party. Janus' cat will follow him around through the camp. Sometimes I think to myself, perhaps Janus would not have become so evil but for the loss of his beloved pet... note that when he was the Prophet and spared their lives, it was his cat's protest that finally convinced him.

@MAGUS hmm...im 36 and still have all my games systems including an Atari 7800 pro and a virtual boy....i played plenty of 16 bit games...but rpgs on the super nes had a super cartoony look most of the time, and yes i have the OG Secret of Mana (not physically anymore) and i think that while Chrono trigger had some nice backgrounds fantastic music and artwork.. Star Ocean looked better. but i could talk about the best lookin 16 / 24 bit games from back in the day for hours. they arent rpgs btw
The most memorable moment to me was when I realized that I could use Magus!!! He was my favorite character by far. Not a true villain but an anti-hero. It gave his character and eventual arch so much depth.
Not gonna lie, I'm high as a kite right now. And hearing you talk in details about this world that I love so much is exactly what I needed. Cheers mate.
Incredible that 25 years after I played Chrono Trigger content is still being made about this legendary masterpiece. I remember my mom used to say the game had beautiful music. I personally think the remake market will bear a CTR. Thank you for making this and keep the memory of Chrono and the gang alive, lads!⚡🔥❄🌊🌌
Jayden Satsuki also another interesting tidbit is that the Japanese names are Gran and Leon, with their sister’s name as Dream. So the sword in CT is Granleon and the weapon Serge gets in CC is Grandream (as opposed to “Mastermune”).
@Isaak Van Dijk considering every other game a "Masamune" appears in has it SPELT まさむね NO. It SHOULD be "Ma-Sa-Moo-Ne" It's literally "Great Sword". Where did you get the idea it was a myth?
@Isaak Van Dijk False. Why would you even say that? It reads as "mah-sah-muu-neh". Just check kana. You don't have to really understand Japanese to check how to read kana, they're dirt-simple. I'm not trying to dump all over you for not knowing Kana (why would you, if you don't study Japanese?), but since you clearly know nothing about this, you shouldn't speak so authoritatively about something about which you clearly know nothing. It's not wrong to not know, but it IS wrong to make claims when you should be fully aware you don't even know the very basics.
I was born in 1989, I played this game as a kid and completed it and it's a magical experience. I am 32 years old now and even through all the years i never fully understood what was happening in the story and timelines. I understood what i could and basically caught the main gist of it all and felt what was meant to be felt and understood. Watching this now I see what i missed out on and you did a fantastic job of going over and covering it in it's entirety. Such a great game
As has been said many many times before this is and will remain the greatest RPG every made and possibly the greatest video game ever made. Thanks for reminding me how much I love it.
Thank you for this video. This is one of my favorite games ever. The one thing I question is the fate of Schala and Zeal in the original Lavos timeline. Her pendant is passed down through the generations, so it's reasonable to conclude she must have escaped the encounter at Ocean Palace. In the altered timeline, she uses the last of her power to teleport your party away to safety. If she has this power, it's reasonable to conclude that she used it in the original timeline to teleport herself and her mother out of the palace. There is no more Zeal and no Black Omen, so maybe all the Enlightened Ones no longer had access to magic and lived out their days on land free of the influence of Lavos?
The saddest part of me playing this game is that I've been through like 4 copies. I keep moving and losing copies. One of them my dog ate before he died. I'm only 19 and remember playing and loving this back when I played it on the DS.
This is unbelievably good and comprehensive. You deserve more subs for all your effort. Amazing. I just can't believe you took the time to do all of this.
25:48 " nEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP! never gonna let you down..Never run around and desert you" xP..I swear the created of this theme song during this part of this game had Rick Astley in the brain.
Actually, during an interview, the composer of this soundtrack said he'd never heard of Rick Astley while writing it. Just one of those stunning coincidences... :-)
Ngl, watching videos like these really helps someone like me who is very new (due to age and geography reasons) to JRPGs and turn-based games in general of how great these retro games are, especially in terms of story. You folks back in the 90s seriously had some amazing experiences.
"MOAR STORY, MOAR MOAR MOAR" if you'd like a good classic jrpg... I'd highly recommend Ara Fell, one of my favorites. Modern yet very classic in all the right ways.
@@elgatochurro oh yes, I played it some weeks ago. It was so cute and well made. From the beautiful graphics to the characters and the map. I was really surprised that this game is pretty badly rated, like 6/10. There's even an old discussion thread on steam where a player shits on the characters and gameplay and the developer, a woman, responds to everything. Maybe it didn't invent the wheel new, but it was good on its own and doesn't need to hide.
Most memorable thing to me is how short the game was. An experienced that sits with you forever yet very short. And where lots and lots of your choices do do things. Like if you did not know to make noise in the cell after the trial Luca will come and free you after the time passes. Just little touches like that make repeat plays mean so much more. The one that teaches you magic having several looks depending on your power, including one very hard to see as you'll likely be to strong, getting clones for every character.. hell the fact that this was one of the first games with new game +. This game was special, and you could plow through it in less then a day, but the experiences will live with you forever. And of course, "To Faraway Times"
This one of the few stories I have ever experienced that brings me to emotion. Such a good story and teaches life lessons along the way. The character development and emotional investment that come with it is masterful. You preserve this beautiful story in all aspects of its spirit and I thank you for that. This game should be a rite of passage for anyone who plays RPGs.
I played this game when I was young . One of my favorite games. The only reason I started playing this game was cuz of the art. I use to love drawing. When I saw this artwork on the game I had to play it
@@Xygor I’m watching your video but have to stop at 52:32 because that’s where I am in the game. I’ll watch the rest once I complete it!!! Maybe I’m getting close to the end!
Sometimes I just play this video in the background while I clean, play certain games, or during work from home. You do a great job telling the story of this game. I was shocked midway first time I listened to this thinking "I can't believe all this was crammed in a SNES game".
Chrono Trigger, one of the few stories across any medium that i feel does time travel, as a story telling mechanic, justice. Such an amazing game with multiple endings depending on what you do as you traverse through time itself. One of the best RPGs, a timeless classic that every JRPG fan should experience at least once in their life.
I love that when they go back to 600 A.D., the kingdom enacts a justice system to prevent future incidents, thus the reason Chrono faces trial for his interaction with Marle in 1000 A.D..
There is no word on how this video touch my soul so deeply. This is like enjoying the magic of CT without playing the whole game. Welcome to the internet, where everything can be found. I miss the 90's

I never beat Chrono Trigger and didn’t learn what the name of the game was until I was well into my 20s despite remembering it being played by someone when I was very young. Now I’m in my 30s and watching your video on CT and other games like FF7 makes me relive my childhood. Thank you for a beautiful piece of work.
@@trave5779 In every aspect? I don't think it could be equaled or surpassed. The only honorable mention I could give would be Final Fantasy Tactics, for incredible and unique combat system, an epic music score that can beat almost anything, and a story that's not quite fair to compare (time travel is just insane and special), but I would call Tactics the RPG Game of Thrones for its story, so if you put it that way it's hard to imagine anything else coming close to Chrono Trigger.
@@michaelscott-joynt3215 I think Ogre Battle 64 is better than FF Tactics in terms of both gameplay and story. Chrono Trigger and it's many layers... even with the relative liability of the SNES hardware (compared to everything that's come since) just has no rivals. I personally love BOF3 and even that just pales in comparison. You'd think that there's still more in the RPG genre to tap into...
I played Chrono Trigger but never finished it, I'm glad I found this video! Your storytelling is really good and clear, I didn't have to scroll back or anything. Great job!
During the side quest of the rainbow shell, if you visit Marle's dad sometime after the guards stands down in hunting Chrono's party, Marle actually gets disowned by her dad from an argument, leading to the Chancellor attempting to usurp the throne by framing King Guardia XXXIII. This is why once King Guardia was found guilty the chancellor claims that the Guardia line ends here, and domain is now his.
Doing a summary of the original timeline without time traveling intervention is such a great idea! I really enjoyed this video, it's crazy how many entwined arcs this game has.
Thank you for this. I both suck at RPGs and don't have the ability to play this, but I am always up for a good story. I can see now why this is in so many "favorite of all time" lists.
Magus was so cool he was a spitting image of piccolo!! I used to love him. Good video man you were able to keep me watching for an hour which is crazy! Keep them up buddy!
O my god, every time I'm reminded of this game, it brings tears to my eyes. I'm a damn grown man. One of the best rpgs up there. I keep Chrono Trigger installed just like I keep Deus Ex installed. The game is hauntingly beautiful. I remember some of the parts of the game that were meant to make you feel despair, like how the future had turned out because of Lavos, I still remember the feels.
The game story for Chronotrigger was clearly on a different level. Played it in the very early 2000s, and I'm still in awe almost 20 years later. Many parts of the game tugged on my heart strings.
Geez I'm late but thank goodness I needed the explanation for the timeline. The story is so good but couldn't keep up with everything going on. Thanks for this.

This game, desperately needs a remake. Such a great game and such a great story. I’d love to play this with BOTW graphics and Akira Toriyama style art.

Same, played it when I was 13 and recently replayed the expanded NDS/Android port. That dream devourer fight tho, and the extra Magus event kinda show what could've been in Chrono Cross :(
I can say the exact same thing. That's really cool.

I just finished Chrono Trigger this 2020 and I really love the plot, characters, gameplay and everything about it! The time travel idea and how all events were connected was truly cleverly written. You can tell they totally put their heart and soul in this game :)
Totally accurate!

The soundtrack guy literally put his life into it , got ulcers

My little brother thanked me for forcing him to play this game. I couldn’t let him miss out on this. I’m in my 40’s now and when my son’s reading comprehension (he’s only 4)is able to understand the game I’ll make him play it too. The game teaches you about love, ambition, sacrifice and death. The game is good enough to encourage reading. I hope all other dads do the same.
It really does. It is a timeless classic and one of my friends just played it last year for the first time and loved it.
Hand'eth the SuperNintendo Controller!
my dad did this for me! i remember this game so fondly but i also remember the way it made me feel. it was hard to understand the topics alone at a young age, even with very high reading comprehension! just make sure you ask about the game while he plays and make sure he's able to fully understand the topics at hand, and you're not leaving him alone !

Chrono Trigger is and always shall be my favorite video game of all time. Simply a brilliant telling; even if some of the story notes can be a bit contradicting at times.
Play Another Eden, same creators who created Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.
@@CuongNguyen-le5ic is it on the same level? I tried it for a few minutes, didn't suck me in.
True, good point!
Man the story so deep, complex but not convoluted, perfectly balanced. Even better than many movies. Its a work of Art indeed, and here we are 2022 we still no remake to be made.
Maybe in the future!
Maybe it’s so good that a remake would be too much of a challenge! But yeah I’d still be down for it!!
I think it's great and for my taste, the sequel chrono cross was way overboard with the complexity and it was convoluted as hell, so in my opinion not a good sequel, rather a spin-off
Remake was made for NDS and or an Android version...just added anime vids to the game....
Wait, that's hilarious, I never realized that Chrono saving queen Leene created the same criminal justice system that would arrest him later, they even use the chancellor sprite...
thats why if you goto the castle prior to those events with Marle you wouldnt be arrested
Extra ironic when you consider that that’s how the second imposter Chancellor was able to subvert the King later on.
@@gaymerjerry Absolutely genius

@@Caladcholg Chrono Cross isn't canon to me, because its story is completely illogical and lazy. So the story of Chrono Trigger ended good for me.
Reeeally pumped for that one as well, haha.
The trouble with Chrono Cross is, there is no one single cannon.
The game gives you different RNG characters to recruit whenever you play.
Sure all characters exist in the game, but only set numbers will be recruited.
Chrono Cross is simple, all futures that could exist do exist
@@xenxander Technically the characters aren't RNG. You get characters based of what choices you make through the story.
This game is a quarter of a century old and still holds up. Fitting that the game about time travelling is truly timeless.
Yes it does! A timeless classic. Have you played it lately?

Thank you for your TED talk, you have enlightened me and many others
Sir this is a Wendys
Actually it was FATE
When I played this as a kid, I thought that the "entity" is the player.
It really was just about the perfect story.

For those interested in the original (Japanese) pronunciation of "Masamune" it is pronounced "mah-sah-moo-ne."
Jayden Satsuki also another interesting tidbit is that the Japanese names are Gran and Leon, with their sister’s name as Dream.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?

True, I guess it can be short. Back then it didn't seem as short though.
Thank you! It really is a special game. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I played this game when I was young . One of my favorite games. The only reason I started playing this game was cuz of the art. I use to love drawing. When I saw this artwork on the game I had to play it
Definitely one of the best!
I missed Chronotrigger as a teen but am making up for it now in my 40’s. I can’t imagine how cool it must have been to play in the 90’s.
It truly was! But it still holds up.
@@Xygor I’m watching your video but have to stop at 52:32 because that’s where I am in the game. I’ll watch the rest once I complete it!!! Maybe I’m getting close to the end!
It was amazing in the 90's nothing has been made to come close to this.
And we played it without any guides!
What an absolute masterpiece. Playing it, I never realised how much story there is, because things just fit togheter so perfectly.
So true! Thanks for watching!
My favorite game of all time.
Something about the songs "600A.D" & "To Great Friends" make me cry. Specifically the orchestral arrangements.
I can't blame you for having it as your #1!
i def ugly cry
It is still my all time favorite RPG game I've ever played, and the extras added to DS version was a nice addition
Yes, the DS version was good!
Sometimes I just play this video in the background while I clean, play certain games, or during work from home. You do a great job telling the story of this game. I was shocked midway first time I listened to this thinking "I can't believe all this was crammed in a SNES game".
Thank you so much, glad you liked it!
So timeless, as you note!
I love that when they go back to 600 A.D., the kingdom enacts a justice system to prevent future incidents, thus the reason Chrono faces trial for his interaction with Marle in 1000 A.D..
Yes, great time connections that make sense!
There is no word on how this video touch my soul so deeply. This is like enjoying the magic of CT without playing the whole game. Welcome to the internet, where everything can be found. I miss the 90's
Me too, and I agree!
One of the best and well thought out stories in an RPG to date.
It truly is!
I really wish I grew up with this game, I beat it for the first time in december and I have been planning to do a 100% playthrough from the start soon. Great video man!
Thanks man, glad you liked it. Isn't it a classic? Always worth it to replay this one.
Thank you for watching it! Glad you loved the game as much as I did.
1:00:27 "Chrono is innocent of every wrong doing"
He still ate that old man's lunch tho
Whether you eat the lunch is irrelevant, lol, it's never mentioned. You can not eat it.
Haha, truth!
Chrono Trigger set the RPG bar for a decade to come.
You could make the argument that the bar hasn't been met since.
It really did!
I played Chrono Trigger but never finished it, I'm glad I found this video! Your storytelling is really good and clear, I didn't have to scroll back or anything. Great job!
Thanks for watching it, glad you enjoyed!
True, good point!
Kudos on a wonderfully done summary. Very concise yet listenable. CT sure does have a great complex story.
Thank you very much
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for this as I played this when I was 16 back in 1996
I felt like crying hearing the whole Synopsis
Thank you for watching it!
Doing a summary of the original timeline without time traveling intervention is such a great idea! I really enjoyed this video, it's crazy how many entwined arcs this game has.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
I’ll be honest, I was dreading that this video was an hour long. But I was hooked in the entire time. Very well done 👏👏👏
Glad you liked it!
Say it with me;
"MA-SA-MOO-NE"
I believe its MOO NAY. hard to say for sure. it has been pronounced so many different ways
"ne" is pronounced nay.
It's a Japanese sword.
Closer to 'neh' than 'nay'.
@@ChrisHanline It's "neh", not "nay". But yes, "masamune" is four syllables, not three. This video was still magnificent though!
It really triggers me whenever he says it masamune incorrectly
I listened to this whole thing man. Great story and storytelling pace man. You killed it and got a sub
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Just beat the game for the first time and man what a ride it was. So much was told in a short amount of time and I love it
Isn't it great?
Thank you for this. I both suck at RPGs and don't have the ability to play this, but I am always up for a good story. I can see now why this is in so many "favorite of all time" lists.
Glad you liked it, thank you!
Magus was so cool he was a spitting image of piccolo!! I used to love him. Good video man you were able to keep me watching for an hour which is crazy! Keep them up buddy!
I don't think you've ever seen a Piccolo.
Vegeta...Chrono is Goku
@@scotttackett7579 The character not the instrument lol
Fantastic character! Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game!
Other than the heavy use of the word "suddenly" and "however" in the more action-filled parts of the story, this was spot on, and nice to hear.
Thank you for this! I was just too young back then to understand the game, moreso finish it. I might give this gem of a game another try. 😁
Everyone who likes video games deserves it to themselves
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game!
Yes, so many emotional moments you can still remember today!
The game story for Chronotrigger was clearly on a different level. Played it in the very early 2000s, and I'm still in awe almost 20 years later. Many parts of the game tugged on my heart strings.
Yes, it was a unique blend of all the best elements of all other RPGs.
YEEEEEEEEES!! I love this game!
Lie we have some things in common lol.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game!
Awesome video, I just love CT!!!
So tragic how they threw everything away for Chrono Cross...
I agree, it was a letdown.
You deserve a medal for your beautiful telling of this masterpiece.
Wow, thank you!
great game with a great story. I loved your explanation of the default timeline
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game!
Well holy fart. These are great resources. These are basically like listening to a movie in the background while at work.
Glad you liked it!
glad im not the only one
Geez I'm late but thank goodness I needed the explanation for the timeline. The story is so good but couldn't keep up with everything going on. Thanks for this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ive watched this video three times.Thank you I haven't had a chance to play this beautiful game but your video helped me understand this story maybe oneday I will buy a DS to play this masterpiece.THANK YOU
Thank you so much for the kind words!
You can buy the game on the App Store if you have an IPhone or iPad. You can also play it for free on an SNES emulator
If you have a 3DS then you don't need a DS.
This game, desperately needs a remake. Such a great game and such a great story. I’d love to play this with BOTW graphics and Akira Toriyama style art.
No, I don't think so. They got it right the first time.
Not really a remake but they did rerelease it for DS not too long ago, with extra content and a few minor fixes
Happy gaming :)
Like a link between worlds type thing?
It really does, I agree!
This is nothing short of amazing. Respect man. One of the few games that transcend time, and the gaming genres in general. Time may pass but it will never be forgotten.
Thank you, glad you liked it and the game!
Wonder if Lavos is related to Jenova in some way shape or form?
ALIENS!
BellowD Gaming plot twist!
lavos: You thought I was just some random Alien trying to be the perfect being! But It is I, DIO!
Nah...more related to Cell 😂😂😂
@@NuevoExistence they were both parasites. the only difference is that lavos wasnt sentient, "he" only acted upon natural instinct.
You do understand they made Chrono Trigger years before FF7, right?
