FF9 is one of my top video games...i still remember first getting it, i usually press start 1000 times to start the game, but this was the first time i just let the music play. That flute melody was so good and even as a kid i knew it was something. Thanks for making this video!
I don't have much time to play anymore but FFIX is the best game that I have ever played and something that has stayed with me throughout the last decades. I do forget some details of the story from time to time and that is why I am grateful for videos like this that allow me to experience this game's story once again. Thank you Xygor
I also love this scene! My wife was kind enough to do a 4 panel painting that represented that ending for my birthday earlier this year. Right there with you; I cry every time I finish the game
Xygor Gaming, I'm hyped to see you making another episode in this series. I'm still hoping for ones for III, V, and VIII, so that I - X are complete, and then one for XII. But right now I'm happy to see you have made another. Thanks fam.
@@Xygor I really appreciate it. The first Final Fantasy I played was XII back on PS2, and more recently I've been playing the PSP versions of I (20th Anniversary) and IV (Complete Collection, and downloaded but haven't tried II (20th Anniversary) and III, on the PPSSPP (I think it's called) emulator on my phone. So I'm really new to the series, and your videos are great to help me understand and learn about this amazing collection of games.
41:10 - even in recap form, this is still my most favorite moment in FF. I have been an avid FFRK player for the past 7 years, but now the Global version of this free-to-play game is ending. Thank you for this perfectly timed video. FF9 continues to remind me that even if all good things must come to an end, they can continue to live on in what survives.
9 is a LOT of people's favs. Not my personal favorite but some of my relationships with my high-school friends were almost solely based around this game. Never got Excalibur 2 but it's actually a life goal for me.
Watched this video a couple of months after finishing the game. Thank you for your narration, it made me realize that I missed some important plot points (Garnet replacing the original dead princess and Kuja saving the crew with the teleportation). The story is pretty straight-forward until Garland shows up. While the Terra - Gaia situation is simple, there are lots of intricacies and small details that you probably miss during your first playthrough. So thank you once again for creating this video!
@@Xygor Played it 2 years ago and wrestled with X-2 for a few months until I gave up and watched the good ending on RUclips. Planning to replay X sometime this year, but then again there are so many RPGs out there and I look forward for both XVI and the second part of the VII remake. Octopath Traveler II is also on my radar. Also, if the rumors about remaking FF IX turn out to be true, I'm gonna lose it. I'm already giving a lot of money to Square 😂
Thanks boss for doing this spotlight. Final Fantasy 9 was the first Final Fantasy I really connected with. Came out in in the USA in 2000, and I was in the 8th grade. Still love the game to this day. Your video made me want to go through the entire odyssey once again.
I absolutely love this game. IX has been my favourite since I was young. I love the development both Kuja and Zidane get especially in the last disc. Plus if you play the dissidia games it shows that Kuja really did have a change of heart and if he had lived past the ending he would have likely tried to atone for his actions which i think is a really nice touch.
Thank you very much for this video. Even if I love FFIX as the best game of my life, I don't have much time to enjoy the story anymore while playing. Whenever I feel like bringing those memories back to me, I'll watch this video. Thank you!

I tell ya, I NEVER get tired of seeing happy endings earned and shown in games and other media! Just bought this game yesterday after watching your video, as part of my ongoing aim to get into the Final Fantasy franchise and other classic JRPGs in general. Looking forward to playing it.
Xygor, thank you thank you thank you for making this video. I remember when I was a kid and saw bigger boys playing Breath of Fire on SNES and I was hooked with the RPG's for life. Now as far as FF games go FF IX is my number 2 FF game ever - VI taking the first place. Somewhow I feel that FF IX at the time kinda flew under the radar because I don't remember it having the sametype of hype as VII or VIII. But yeah, IXis fantastic - it brought back that really magical world feeling, music is fantasic, artwork is beautiful and I really like the characters being very unique. Also what I really like is the world map and just how many minigames and secrets the FF IX had - chocobo hot and cold, treasure seraching, bubbles, dead pepper caves, stellazzio quest, ragtime mouse, friendly monsters, hidden bosses etc. Theres just so much stuff.
After playing through every mainline FF game recently (not xi or xiv) FF IX has easily become my new favourite, overtaking VII & X. I did use an improvement patch which just speeds up the atb bar for you and the enemy. In my opinion this massively improves the game and makes the battles so much more enjoyable as the speed feels much closer to VII & VIII's battle speed.
They likely did battle speeds slow due to hardware limitations so that makes a lot of sense. I like to play the remaster with the speed turned up during grinding.
They really made this game so different from the last two and it worked in such a great way, I just subbed and watched ffx video before this, really well made videos.
This is my favorite one, honestly…like FF7 and FFX are incredible but this just holds a special place in my heart for some reason…I hope the rumors of that remake are true.
This was my first final fantasy game I played. Have to admit, I got massively invested in the characters even past some of the goofier aspects. The blue mage marshmallow CAN be massively powerful if used right. The big thing that bugged me was all the will they/won't they with Dagger and Zidane... but at the end, I want to say it was worth it. (I want to - but I'm Irish, and I can hold a grudge as a Scorpio) Three words. On either end. One paragraph about a future that didn't even have to actually be written as canonically true - but again would also have been nice. The two literally marry and she borks it by saying "Murgh, only for this region." Leave it be, it should be unsaid, since it basically continued ever after at any rate... but in constant question. At least for me it did. Mystery's only good up to the point it's actively frustrating to figure out who's feeling what, exactly, for whom. Then it's just aggrevatingly stubborn. I tried I think it was 6, as the one I could find on the system I had, after that... I did not get that magic system. The one with S.E.E.D. rank stuff, or whatever. It confused the heck out of me. I've beaten 10, didn't bother with 10.2 - can't play online for 11, 12 was a bit painful and I never did beat it because the orginal game I believe had a trick with the very end boss where I think you couldn't damage it until you did a certain something. Which might be a move I didn't bother/or know I was meant to purchase... I don't quite recall. I do know I got to like level 80-90's and had every character with an Eildion, so I never could figure out what I did wrong. I tried 13 and just... no. For many, many reasons. I skipped 13.2 and played Lightning Returns for about 5 minutes before the "time management" mechanic peeved me right off, for the pressure. Again, I tend not to play online, so I had to skip 14, 15 was convoluted, I didn't like the real time combat or teleporty gimmick. I also didn't like the whole "you don't really understand how monarchies and dynasties work, do you?" aspect. (The royal couple has to live - or at least have the chance to actually breed, for their rule to be carried on) Doesn't matter if they saved their world, they'd been raised as stewards of their respective cities and they utterly failed on that point. I'm not hopeful for 16 if I'm being honest. I don't like being the "overpowered grunt." Part of the FANTASY of 'saving the kingdom' or definitely 'saving the world' in the medieval setting sense, is being rewarded with actual rank at the end. Marrying the princess, making a family in well earned peace afterward. The End. Too many people forget that; and I think that's a part of this game's mass appeal. It got back to it's fantastical roots while still sort of dipping into sci fi, but it kept the roots of what was important to people that like Fairy Tales. Then again, it's just my opinion. You could be powerful as all get out by the end, if you put in the work. It's one of those games you get into it, what you're willing to put in. [Though fuck those cactus guys... whoever designed them and Tonberry; you are one sadistic bastard my friend]
One of the main things I loved about this game was the simple fact that you can use two controllers during battles which means you could have a friend play with you
I miss the old Square. They used to fill the role Sony has now in making bangers. PS1 era Square was special. FFIX, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Parasite Eve
FFIX was an extraordinary experience back when. My first Final Fantasy to ever finish, FFVII was available before but I knew nothing of this franchise since living in Europe. There was this magical immersion that sucked me into its world of story telling. Especially the music is what made the whole trip exciting while relating to an adventure of wonderful characters! There wasn't anything else to compare with in terms of gameplay quality and charming graphics. Later on I realized my new found hunger for the RPG genre. Games such as Legend of Dragoon, FFVII and many more were next in line! What an incredible time it was growing up during the late 90s and playing all these amazing classics, which I will cherish for the rest of my life..
@Xygor Gaming I've currently got 7 of them platinumed on Steam myself. Currently working on both FF7 Versions and FFXV as we speak. Have you played Final Fantasy Mystic Quest by chance?
Spoiler alert!: Garnet/Dagger's actual name is Sarah and can be found as inscription on the eidolon wall. My first playthrough i had named her Shannon but ofcourse every run afterward i could not call her anything but Sarah.
Now I am excited for VIII, maybe XIII and FFT way in the future when he does the previous ones! (Those are my favorites of the main line of games ^) Hope it comes sooner than later!
Loved this game. My favourite moments were probably when Kuja and Brahne are fighting at the Iifa Tree, and when Kuja destroys Terra. Honestly, every scene with Kuja was great, the hallmark of a good villain. I like that he becomes somewhat sympathetic towards the end.
Shout out for Brahne, one of the most polarizing villains I’ve ever seen. She starts out just appearing as a monster of greed and sloth, a Kefka analog if you will; but you begin to see she’s just an older woman suffering heartbreaking losses and being taken control of by an evil being who used her fears and insecurities against her. Her death was actually very sad to me, because as we saw she could have been saved.
I've always felt like FFIX was the last true Final Fantasy. That's not to say that I haven't enjoyed what's come after but FFIX felt like the end of an era and the end of a certain kind of Final Fantasy.
Personally I think my favorite is the section right after Zidane gets his ass kicked by Garland and they chase him into the sort of prison dungeon - and he's telling them off - mostly because I love that song "You're not alone" :-D
I.. mysteriously remember all the thing that should be collected throughout the game whenever I played it even tho i usually forget about all of them. always completed it near 100% everytime without a guide. The only thing that I never get is.. EXCALIBUR II. That thing is cursed.
I still remember first time I beat the game feeling bitter sweet that zadaine didn't make it in the end, then when he removed the cloak I was almost as excited as dagger lol still my favorite ff
I remember the first time i beat the game as a kid, felt so sad to see zadaine and vivi gone, then when he removed the cloak and called out to dagger which she immediately runs to him. Ya that got me 😅
Hey dude, just wondering if you ever made a vid about Final Fantasy VIII's story? It's literally the only FF game I've never beaten, despite several tries I always end up getting burnt out half way from the draw system and would love to see how it ends.
I also enjoyed this one keep it up my favorite final Fantasy games are vii and remake and dirge of Cerberus and crisis core then there is ix x x-2 and xv i hope you will do a story of x-2 and xv as well as crisis core and dirge of Cerberus ^^
FFVIII is the very first FF game I know but the very first FF game I played is FFIX. For me this is my introduction to FF series. To be honest Vivi is the one who is the main protagonist of this game. He is the reason why I love FFIX. His identity crisis is so depressing and makes me think of my existence when I was a kid. I just hope the remake will be good.

I agree, what a great game. It's still underrated as far as Final Fantasy games go, I think.
@Xygor Gaming I've currently got 7 of them platinumed on Steam myself. Currently working on both FF7 Versions and FFXV as we speak. Have you played Final Fantasy Mystic Quest by chance?
Yes, I will review FFMQ eventually.
Can you do a full story of Star Ocean Second Departure? I dont see any videos regarding it and i dont have the time to play it again. Thanks
I would consider doing them when I complete the Final Fantasy games.
Spoiler alert!:
Garnet/Dagger's actual name is Sarah and can be found as inscription on the eidolon wall. My first playthrough i had named her Shannon but ofcourse every run afterward i could not call her anything but Sarah.
Now I am excited for VIII, maybe XIII and FFT way in the future when he does the previous ones!
(Those are my favorites of the main line of games ^)
Hope it comes sooner than later!
I will do II and V before VIII.
The whole game, is my favorite moment. Final Fantasy IX is my favorite Fantasy, maybe my favorite game besides Azure Dreams and Demon’s Souls.
Makes sense, the whole thing is great!
Great video, my man!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was and is the best its the saddest cause knowing Vivi died was heartbreaking but it had a wonderful happy ending
Wasn't it great?
Does anyone know what the intro music is? it is driving me mad.
Magus' theme from Chrono Trigger
Loved this game. My favourite moments were probably when Kuja and Brahne are fighting at the Iifa Tree, and when Kuja destroys Terra. Honestly, every scene with Kuja was great, the hallmark of a good villain. I like that he becomes somewhat sympathetic towards the end.
I had no idea how good the story was after beating the game for so many times
This was very entertaining to watch thanks
Thank you!
Finally! A final fantasy series with a happy ending!!!
I love your videos. Keep it up xygor!
Thanks, will do!
7 and 9 were my favorite 3d FF
Both were amazing.
@@Xygor hello 5 months later lmao
@@thend4427 yep, I get a lot of comments!
@@Xygor no prob its just funny lol
@@thend4427 haha, I get it!
Appreciate the recap of the game. It’s crazy; I beat the game and still don’t recall any moments from doing so 😂
Glad you liked it!
I've always felt like FFIX was the last true Final Fantasy. That's not to say that I haven't enjoyed what's come after but FFIX felt like the end of an era and the end of a certain kind of Final Fantasy.
It kind of makes sense that it was, a real throwback.
2:00 with Puck. Kinda a randomly important character later, though he’s more important to the lore than to the game.
This might be crazy, but your voice is super familiar. Do you work for GE?
Nope.
Playing this game on the switch it’s pretty good I like the music and still images very nostalgic.
Can we just take a moment on how extremely well the story is in this game? NO other game has such a story.
My 1st and favourite Final Fantasy game
Isn't it a good one?
I still need to finish this game someday.. in my teenage years I left off at the final disc.
Time to revisit it!
Finally the day has come!!
Oh yeah.
Steiner…. We will never forget your temper . ;)
It's his running sound I remember so fondly. Him, and Vivi are my favorite
@@drowningin My favourite character was Freya. Because of her sad background story, character depth and because of her beautiful music theme.
It was too legendary to forget!
Another wonderful job. Thank you.
I love this so much ♥️ did you ever play "legend of Legaia by chance?
Thanks! I didn't, but maybe I will in the future.
Personally I think my favorite is the section right after Zidane gets his ass kicked by Garland and they chase him into the sort of prison dungeon - and he's telling them off - mostly because I love that song "You're not alone" :-D
That really is an amazing track, one of the best on this.
I've played FFIX probably about 8 times but I still watched this with interest haha.
Thank you, hope you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
A remake of this game would go absolutely nuts
I.. mysteriously remember all the thing that should be collected throughout the game whenever I played it even tho i usually forget about all of them.
always completed it near 100% everytime without a guide. The only thing that I never get is.. EXCALIBUR II. That thing is cursed.
Haha, Excalibur II has to be one of the most annoying items to get in any game.
Aaaaah..... something to lay back and enjoy before I go to bed
Hope you like it!
I would love to see you do rogue galaxy. Such an amazing game a real gem but people don't know it
So Zidane Became the King?
that ending is such a tear jerker t_T
I still remember first time I beat the game feeling bitter sweet that zadaine didn't make it in the end, then when he removed the cloak I was almost as excited as dagger lol still my favorite ff
This took me back. So much quicker than playing thru the whole fame again
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
Thanks this explained a lot
Glad you liked it!
Hot take: FF9 > FF7
More people than you think agree with you.
I prefer the overall look to ff7 compared to ff9. Also I wasn't a fan of creature design in ff9. Story was good but so was ff7.
Ff8>ff7>chrono cross>ff9>legend of dragoon> suikoden
LOL!
FF7 is my favorite game ever but valid
I'm at pandemonium as we speak on my android device my favourite game and I love completing my card set
Did you beat it?!
@@Xygor may times on android and ps1
FFVIII is the very first FF game I know but the very first FF game I played is FFIX.
For me this is my introduction to FF series.
To be honest Vivi is the one who is the main protagonist of this game. He is the reason why I love FFIX. His identity crisis is so depressing and makes me think of my existence when I was a kid.
I just hope the remake will be good.
It really was great, wasn't it?
imho, Final Fantasy 9 is THE BEST FINAL FANTASY game ever. 👍
Sakaguchi and Uematsu agree with you!
Never that. 8 is the best.
What happened when I fought kuja I didn't remember any of that after the kuja fight at the end. Idk. I need to replay it
Is this the ps5 version? The quality looks crisp
Steam
