This was the game that changed the SNES from "I want it" to "I NEED it" back in '92. The fact that this game is the archetype for every subsequent release in the series since, says a lot about how groundbreaking this adventure really is. While not my favorite in the franchise personally, I totally get why it's on the top for many Zelda fans. Thanks a lot for this video. I hope that this is a sign of your return to releasing content consistently now. I discovered your channel right after you went on "hiatus" and was bummed after I watched every one of your videos that I could no longer support my habit. Phenomenal attention to detail, kudos once again. Even as your channel and your work has evolved, your prior videos remain must-sees and invaluable resources for those who want to not only scratch the nostalgia itch, but go deeper to discover new insights. As my main man Ahmad Rashad used to always say, “THAT’S the inside stuff.”
Aaaaand now I’m going to play through this game again for the 100th time. Talk about reinvigorating my absolute love for this game. Great video man. Keep up the good stuff.
I’ve played the entirety of this game about four times in a twenty year span. And I can say it is both difficult and frustrating every time. Very rewarding experience though. My #1 game of all time. With the limited potential the system had this game surpassed its time by a long shot. Now you buy a game that has all the tech you can ask for and it still won’t come close.
That's something that surprised me when I revisited this game a few years back. My friends played it a lot when I was younger, and I'd watch, but never really got into it. I decided to give it a go as an adult and, while figuring out the puzzles was fun, it was DIFFICULT. Not necessarily difficult to figure out, but just difficult to beat. Lots of hard enemies and punishing bosses that made replaying some of the dungeons overwhelming. I don't think I really ever gathered that it was such a hard game when I was a kid.
Definitely one of the best Zelda games and video games of all time. Amazing music, the light and dark worlds, the fun of exploring and the storyline make this a true treasure that still holds up strong. Great retrospective on this one.
I'm learning english and I've decided to watch this video. I think that the video explains very good the Zelda's story and your voice is very understandable. I will continue watching your videos because I like videogames and I think that your videos can very useful for me. A greeting from Spain!
Great review of one of my favorite games of all time and one of the top five SNES games. This game never gets old to me and i play it at least once a month and have done so for the past nine years.
Glad I'm not the only one who was blown away by the muffled rain at the start as a kid. It just seemed so cool. Zelda has always been great with little details like that. I still find the ocean sound in the first game when you get to the coast really satisfying
A part of me mourns the party-based game we never got, but I'm still glad for what we did get- a fine adventure that gave my childhood many grand hours of fun and adventure. Still recall standing on top of Ganon's temple in the Dark World and looking at the horizon, and the climb of Death Mountain. It just felt so overwhelmingly tall and grand, with its seemingly endless tunnels and how they put a "shrunken" version of Hyrule in the background once you reached the top. That was grand... and so was this retrospective.
For me it’s always gonna be Super Metroid. That’s the first game that really got its hooks into me....they’re still there. This is a very close second.
Thanks for highlighting every single detail that gets put into this game with love and passion. These added touches are definitely what makes Zelda games some of the greatest around.
Been playing games since the 80's its now 2019 and I can agree that this game was made with alot love many game makers lack that love now a days its rare, thanks for the vid..💯💯👌👌🕹🕹
I have just started watching your videos and i just want to say that the way you describe the games I love makes me feel how amazing they are and truely bring me to a mindset of happiness and nostalgia. Almost even cried at one point just because of how you envoked the greatness and memories of the game. Thanks man
Welcome back. Link to the Past (along with SMW) is one of the first games I got for the SNES the Christmas it was released. It's one of my favorite games of all time and it still holds up to today. While there are still modern games I enjoy, there is a certain charm to the 16-bit era that just can't be beat.
I totally agree... do you think it's just nostalgia? I think theres some nostalgia tilting my thoughts, but i honestly believe there is a timeless quality to these games... Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Super Mario World... my kids love these titles even today
Some of it is nostalgia, sure. However, I also think that due to the limitations of the technology available back then, the developers had to come up with more imaginative ways to convey their creations to the players as best as they could. Back then, there was a certain level of imagination on the player's part too, because not everything could be shown to you plain as day in a 3D cut scene the way it can today.
It isn't nostalgia, the games were good and the peak of 2d gaming, N64 to me was a downgrade, several franchises went 3d too soon... I really couldn't stand Mario 64 compared to 3 or SMW. (Unpopular opinion but...Ocarina made the jump to 3d a little better but was still not the same and rough to look at, even back then. game became more boring. fields and dungeons became emptier w/ few enemies. more hand holding started with navi/owl. boss fights became super easy. From about 87-94 Nintendo was KILLING it and the gold standard.) Most of my nostalgia is actually with the NES, but SNES was peak Nintendo for sure.
My man. This vid. My God. So exceptionally well done brother! 👏 Ya hit on every-single-detail, as I watched it here, that reminded me of all those single-minute-details during all those countless hours I was drawn in playing, I also took notice to and enjoyed, admired in this beautiful game that made it special for myself as a kid. THANK YOU for the excellent work done on this retrospective! Cool to see someone else that loved this game for everything it was and still is. Looking forward to checking out all your other content on here.
Thanks for this review. I still have my original copy of the game. Top 5 games for me. This and Super Metroid, Mario RPG, Megaman X, Final Fantasy 3/6, Strert Fighter 2, Super Mario world, Donkey Kong Country and many others. Super Nintendo will always be my favorite system. Thanks for doing these videos, great nostalgia trip back to my yearly teen years.
I've never been able to find fault with Zelda Past. Definitely a masterpiece like no other as I honestly can't think of any other game that comes together so majestically and so design perfect. I went on to love other Zelda games but in truth they all have flaws in comparison and only a few of them are very good. Zelda Past is however simply unmatched and likely never will be
Such an amazing game and so many good memories. Used to play this with my father when i was a kid, taking turns and giving each other tips and advices. I still love it to this day and i've been playing through the game once a year since forever. All on that same cartridge me and my dad played on so long ago.
Forgot to add... your top 20 snes games is what got me into the whole retro game "world" here on RUclips ... again, to hear the passion and feeling in your voice that I def share with you for thisbsystem and it's games, it just sent me back almost 30 years to when I got my snes for xmas and fell in love instantly... This was awesome!!! I’m a huge NES Zelda fan, and love this game a ton too. This was a great video - thanks for pouring a ton of love into this one too!!
The music alone brings back fond memories of my childhood.it is truly the best game for the snes.i remember being like "dude the freakin graphics are sick!"
Well said, these is my first Zelda game and my favorite there was no holding back here it set expectations of all other zelda games, these is not just a Zelda game, it is THE Zelda Game, and bares the literal tittle of GAME not for the sake of just challenge but a REAL GAME, nohtholding back on powers the enemy's are strong and so is Link and the power ups, there is no tone down but turn up, that is how a game really is, (FUN.) Simply the best Zelda game and the one still holding the High Bar. These is the game that should be remake remake in 3D with dedication and lots of imagination pore in to it, like games use to be done with out holding back.
I still remember my original amount of "games played" during the credits, 152. I died probably around that many times (and a game played is also accessing your profile). My confident 9 year old self announced to my family that I would one day beat this game with 0 deaths, they laughed. About 7 years and 14 completions later I pulled it off =)
How did I miss this video, 3 years ago? Great job, there's sooo much good things to say about Link to the past, I'm sure could've extend it for hours :) This is my favorite game of all time, it is truly a piece of art, you have to take the time to truly immerse yourself into the incredible atmosphere of this beautiful world. Then you'll know :) It brings back so many good memories, kinda overwhelming, and I can tell you that there's very few games that does it to me. Perfect doesn't exist, but a link to the past is perfect to me. From a guy of our generation, thank you, and please do continue, I'll be there watching :) May the tri-force be with you ;)
First time I've played A Link To The Past, I thought I've played a fable. I must save the princess and find the sword to rescue her. It's not an important sword because it's the strongest. It's because this is the sword and I'm the hero. Whatever on games were longer released at this time, I haven't played. I couldn't. I've played it over and over again. And at the end, the Master Sword sleeps. Forever. Because this text : it was the best ending ever for me as a child. Unforgotten. And now I'm growing up and buy, whenever I buy a nitendo console, because of Zelda (and Smash ;) ) as a love that never ends.
Aw man I never thought a game review would get me teared up lol. Cheers. I remember I was about 7 or 8 years old when this came out and I was instantly amazed. The dungeon music used to scare me to death. Looking back, it's easy to see why this game was so well received but we had no idea what we really had when we were playing it. We were just living in the moment with it as kids. Fantastic game.
All the epic moments... That just filled you with all the feels as you watch the end credits. Seeing how much of an impact Link had on all the people of Hyrule.
I just had to drop some praise on this video. Out of all the videos I've seen in regards to A Link to the Past; this one perfectly conveys the thoughts and feelings I've had about that wonderful game since my childhood.
Thank you Nathan! It’s quite a process to word things the way I want. I’m glad it came across... and clearly you have great taste in games... and channels. Lol
NESComplex I never had a Nintendo console until the N64 came out. I was a Sega kid first and Nintendo kid second, but both over Sony. Sega for Sonic, Nintendo for Mario and Zelda, PC for everything from Duke Nukem to Fallout.
Now that I've had time to watch this, I have to say, it doesn't get much better than these retrospectives you create. I often have trouble putting into words what makes a game so great, but you do it seemingly effortlessly. This video was a nice surprise and well worth the wait. Now I've got the itch to fire this game up again..
Those words are way too kind. Thank you so much. Im glad it gives you that retro itch... but i promise it was not effortless.... lol i spent way too long on this one. haha

If it takes months for you to release content this high of caliber, then take your time my man! It's definitely worth it!
Dude... your videos are freaking awesome... They inspire me! When i watch you i feel like I'm slipping. Keep up the good work. Anyone reading this go watch Nefarious Wes right now
NESComplex Thanks so much, man. I've already dedicated myself to really step outside of my comfort zone for my next big project based on this video alone! I'm gonna push myself. Great artists like you bring out the best in others. Glad you're back!
i think we need to collaborate...lol or Skype or something
I am down, man! I'm not really a Skype kinda guy, but I do Discord. Hit me up on Twitter.
Didn’t see this coming! The man is back!
Hahaha... I've been hibernating
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!! HE IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!! Glad to see you back Chris!!!!!!!
NES Addict! What's up? Thanks Jay! I hope you like it!
One of my favorite games ever, replying it now on the switch.
They need to remake it like Link's Awakening
@@gtyrone83 agreed
Me too brother
@Stuart Dooley 😳
Robb Hensley how do you have it on switch? I can’t find it anywhere
One of my favorite games on tbe SNES. Dare i say this is the best game ever made.
For me It's Witcher 3, but everyone has diffrent taste
For me it’s always gonna be Super Metroid. That’s the first game that really got its hooks into me....they’re still there. This is a very close second.
For me there is no question: best game ever made.
Thanks for highlighting every single detail that gets put into this game with love and passion. These added touches are definitely what makes Zelda games some of the greatest around.
Hey Diego!!! What’s up man?
Living the dream brother!
A lot of Zelda games start with Link in bed.
well... this is the game where it started.
Always waking the poor bastard up.
& in wind waker link was sleeping at top of tower 😛😛

That review was absolutely superb, a total cut above the rest
delighted to have you back
Thanks!
Been playing games since the 80's its now 2019 and I can agree that this game was made with alot love many game makers lack that love now a days its rare, thanks for the vid..💯💯👌👌🕹🕹
I know you love this game as much as I do by the way you narrate the details of this masterpiece. Thank you.
And on this blessed day, he returned to us.
Fabrications 7:23... Hahaha You're funny!
NESComplex Just happy to see another retrospective video. Keep up the good work!
I have just started watching your videos and i just want to say that the way you describe the games I love makes me feel how amazing they are and truely bring me to a mindset of happiness and nostalgia. Almost even cried at one point just because of how you envoked the greatness and memories of the game. Thanks man
Thank you for letting me know. I’m always trying to capture that feeling.
Right... some kids today don't get the imagination thing... they want everything fed to them
It isn't nostalgia, the games were good and the peak of 2d gaming, N64 to me was a downgrade, several franchises went 3d too soon...
Link To The Past is still the best Zelda game in my opinion.
Zelda Past is however simply unmatched and likely never will be
Zelda A Link to the Past : The Best Game Ever.
The only other game that comes together so well for me is Dragon Age:Origins:
Such an amazing game and so many good memories. Used to play this with my father when i was a kid, taking turns and giving each other tips and advices.
I still love it to this day and i've been playing through the game once a year since forever.
All on that same cartridge me and my dad played on so long ago.
Couldn't agree more dude! It's a masterpiece and holds a special spot in my heart! Thanks for the video, it was awesome!
I even remember the way the system and the games SMELL lol... but once I watched those 2 videos, I began subscribing to others after I subscribed to yours and I been relentlessly watching videos ever since... really pumped and happy your back and like u said, alive and well lmao
That is so awesome! Thank you for telling me that! It’s so good to know these videos have mattered to you and others too. ...and I remember that smell too. Hahaha. New game smell
What a great video!!!👍 Thank you for putting this together!🙏
This was awesome!!! I’m a huge NES Zelda fan, and love this game a ton too.
This was a great video - thanks for pouring a ton of love into this one too!!
Am I dreaming?! He’s back!!!
Hahaha Thanks!
The music alone brings back fond memories of my childhood.it is truly the best game for the snes.i remember being like "dude the freakin graphics are sick!"
Well said, these is my first Zelda game and my favorite there was no holding back here it set expectations of all other zelda games, these is not just a Zelda game, it is THE Zelda Game, and bares the literal tittle of GAME not for the sake of just challenge but a REAL GAME, nohtholding back on powers the enemy's are strong and so is Link and the power ups, there is no tone down but turn up, that is how a game really is, (FUN.)
Simply the best Zelda game and the one still holding the High Bar.
These is the game that should be remake remake in 3D with dedication and lots of imagination pore in to it, like games use to be done with out holding back.
That touch of Castlevania III music in the outro was great. Excellent review!
A link to the past was my first Zelda. I couldn't read until 1993 so Zelda 1&2 were no Go for me
It probably took 100 hours to beat it the first time
I still remember my original amount of "games played" during the credits, 152. I died probably around that many times (and a game played is also accessing your profile). My confident 9 year old self announced to my family that I would one day beat this game with 0 deaths, they laughed. About 7 years and 14 completions later I pulled it off =)
How did I miss this video, 3 years ago?
Great job, there's sooo much good things to say about Link to the past, I'm sure could've extend it for hours :)
This is my favorite game of all time, it is truly a piece of art, you have to take the time to truly immerse yourself into the incredible atmosphere of this beautiful world.
Then you'll know :)
It brings back so many good memories, kinda overwhelming, and I can tell you that there's very few games that does it to me.
Perfect doesn't exist, but a link to the past is perfect to me.
From a guy of our generation, thank you, and please do continue, I'll be there watching :)
May the tri-force be with you ;)
First time I've played A Link To The Past, I thought I've played a fable.

Thank you Dylan! I am?... i mean I AM
This game will always be legendary for me. Everything has loved poured into it.
Great review! Nice to hear your voice again too.
Thank you so much. after editing this for 80 hours... i kinda hate my voice. lol But seriously it means a lot :)
All the epic moments... That just filled you with all the feels as you watch the end credits. Seeing how much of an impact Link had on all the people of Hyrule.
Bro keep it up my grandma and i played this when i was a child
I just had to drop some praise on this video. Out of all the videos I've seen in regards to A Link to the Past; this one perfectly conveys the thoughts and feelings I've had about that wonderful game since my childhood.
Thank you Nathan! It’s quite a process to word things the way I want. I’m glad it came across... and clearly you have great taste in games... and channels. Lol
@@NESComplex great minds. ;)

This brings back all the good memories of the best time in video game history with one of the best games ever created!
The best game ever created!!!!!!!!!!!
I always loved the subtle details in this game, like how the arrows would shake back and forth when they stuck into a target. What a brilliant game.
Anytime I want to be 13 again, I watch this video
A game this great deserves a review of equal caliber. Welcome back dude!
Thank you Joe! It’s been super fun
Didnt expect this in my feed. Welcome back!
I don't think many people expected it... Thanks for still being a subscriber during the hiatus. I appreciate it!
Your review of the best game ever(Super Metroid)will always be top tier. This Alttp review is equally impressive. Cheers on your return!
I am so excited you are back making vids that put you on the map! Your vids put me in the retro gaming mood within minutes!
Thank you! That was the plan. I want to capture that nostalgia for you and remind you why you love retro games in the first place
The Legend of Zelda, Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger, the three pieces of the Triforce in SNES library. ;)
If that's the case, then Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, and Star Fox are the Pendants of Virtue :D

All on the SNES!
@@Necrosoro1 Excellent answer! :D
What a fantastic video. Really enjoyable nostalgic trip really well put together. Great narrative too - nicely done!
I mean it’s no Super Metroid...
God damn the SNES was just simply the best.
I know... SNES has all my favorites
Its better
NESComplex I never had a Nintendo console until the N64 came out. I was a Sega kid first and Nintendo kid second, but both over Sony. Sega for Sonic, Nintendo for Mario and Zelda, PC for everything from Duke Nukem to Fallout.
As me and my non religious home boy say: God Bless The Snes.
@@siamesetool7103 'God' Bless the S...zzz... SNES. Nintendo... Super!
What?
Now that I've had time to watch this, I have to say, it doesn't get much better than these retrospectives you create. I often have trouble putting into words what makes a game so great, but you do it seemingly effortlessly. This video was a nice surprise and well worth the wait. Now I've got the itch to fire this game up again..
Those words are way too kind. Thank you so much. Im glad it gives you that retro itch... but i promise it was not effortless.... lol i spent way too long on this one. haha
What the hell? You're back from the dead
Well... i wouldn't call it "dead"
i can watch ALTTP reviews for days, always finding new little details or even photography to add. great game. thanks for the review. :D
WAT.
Hahaha
I'm so glad you started uploading again. I love this channel.
Thank you Jeremy! It’s fun and i hope you’re enjoying the new videos
