Here's the lyrics for the song, sorry for the wait. Essentially, Moby Dick (the white whale) is love. For another, for myself; whatever. I wanted to make a song that could capture the raw and intense feeling of heartbreak, particularly at a young age. You hate the world, you hate yourself, nothing makes any sense, you feel like this white whale has complete control over you and there's nothing you can do about it. Obviously that's not true, everyone has a shit ton of control over their love life and actions and blah blah blah. But in the moment you feel completely powerless, lost, really fucking mad and very sad. I also just really loved the name "Moby Dick" and the ocean themes because 1) shit feels like you're lost at sea and 2) the main instruments used on this track are soundfonts from Donkey Kong Country - one of them being the "Aquatic Accordion." I"m also really happy with how the music video turned out after the idea spawned in my head. It's not perfect, but my main goal was to capture the isolation and struggle of a break-up and I really liked the setting of an empty gym to really contrast the intensity of the lyrics. Basically that even though the person in the song is going through some serious shit, the person in the video has moved past that - instead starting to focus more on that self-worth status (self-worth gang.) Doing his best to hunt that white whale, even if it seems impossible. P.S. - I'm doing quite alright. I know this song + the heartbreak video might look like I'm fucked- but trust me, I'm doing good. It's interesting that this song is about a heartbreak as you put it Jakey, for me this video seems to be more about someone trying to kill the worst part about themsleves/ trying to understand themsleves and it seems that the lyrics try to reflect that as much as the video. In the lyrics it's constantly brought up killing the white whale, which refers to moby dick directly (obviously) but it also brings up the theme of Moby dick, in the which the captain before he hunts Moby dick he learns everything about the whale and it's patterns that way he can determined how best to kill it. To me the video also shows that just as equally, inside a gym one needs to know there own limits so they don't hurt themsleves but also they must try and push those limits constantly higher and higher. It mirrors a lot of how people in the real world either don't push themsleves further than their limits or how some overreach and end up hurting themsleves as well because they don't end up understanding themsleves which leads them to fail in killing their own white whale. Anyways apologies for the long wall of text, great song as always Jakey. Dog Bless my dude
4 years later, this still rocks. your new songs are good, but this and Cafeteria sound very different and unique and amazing. I love these two. Wish you made more of these really. Gloomy and synthwave type.
I love jakey and his new stuff is good and I wish him the best and I hope he is as successful as he wants to be, but there definitely is a big part of me that is nostalgic for his old material. There was a beauty to how raw and amateur-ish they are that in a way reminds me of youth. He's grown up now (just like me) and things aren't the same anymore.

Sketchy Gecko lets be real, I love Jakey too, but if I were to rate this on where Gambino was at on his come up, I’d say this goes into Cul-De-Sac alongside “hero” and “fuck it all”. I’m waiting for Jakey to hit the point of “3005” so he can blow up. He has a good head start ahead of Donald since a audience watching you as an actor doesn’t translate best to RUclips while a RUclips regular audience has a higher chance of translating over to RUclips music. That’s not to say Jakey’s audience is regular either, I doubt many normies are in his crowd but I also think that’s why the audience had the attention span to transfer over, since Jakey’s audience is far more lenient in giving him the chance to expand and honestly critique him.
This song....goddamn this song.... This song hits me hard everytime. Honestly it's relative simplicity is genius, basic bass line, simple synth loops and the occasional fx injerection blend perfectly with deep honest lyricism and almost raw sounding vocals. All in all man...one of my favourite songs of all time.
Y'know "Not Dead Yet" was great, and I really enjoyed the Guts' Theme sample, but this is still my favorite. Not that the other one is bad, but this one strikes just right in the cockles of my heart. Personal preference really, I love his music, makes me want to get up and go do something. Thinking about getting it on my phone legit, and I don't own any music.

I don't know if you intended this, but, for me, the antitheses of Saintlike is Moby Dick. On the thumbnails, you popping back a 40 in Saintlike and popping back a protein shake in Moby Dick. Again, I don't know if it was intentional, but I feel like Saintlike is you wallowing in what you are, indulging yourself, happily waiting for love. Moby Dick is the opposite. You hate yourself, you feel lost, useless and depressed BECAUSE of love. But in the end you make the choice to go on the hunt. The choice. Not to let Moby Dick control you. You get up and do what you have to do to make yourself better. Idk. Music is subjective, that's what I thought. Can't wait for the UNPLUGGED VERSION OF THIS *wink wink*
The thumbnail was just a neat coincidence, but the rest was intentional. They really are two different sides of the same love coin. Loving myself vs hating myself
Usually I’m not a fan of this kind of music, but there’s something special about how Jakey does it. He makes it feel so passionate, more raw, but still perfect. Gold.
Dude, clean form on those squats. I've been a personal trainer for years, and someone your height having form that clean is rare. Is there anything you can't do?
Was at a fairly low point about half a year ago and this song brought me through it. It motivated me to get back into shape and really take myself into account. I’m still far from perfect, but at least she’s back to help me through it. It payed off. Love you Jakey.
Hey man, thanks for putting this out for a deadass 23 year old like myself to listen to. It's been an anthem for me as I treat my recent birthday as a wake-up call that I'm letting the good parts of life pass me by. The "What's the point of being sad?" line really hits home.
I remember stumbling across this music video years ago. It kept popping up in my mind randomly over the years, but I could never find it again. Finally, years later, I have found it.
Wanted to mention how surprised I was (and still am) at how good and especially off-kilter your vocal performance is here. I was expecting something more in the vain of Medium of South Dakota with triplet flows etc. but this is some real risk taking here. You tried something different and it really payed off.
I still cant believe that content creators try and make crappy songs, but then you come out, with extremely entertaining content, then out of nowhere create one of my now favorite songs, thank you so much for being a awesome creator. Also please keep doing what your doing its absolutely awesome.
This is astonishing. Just discovered today and I'm in danger of killing it as I've played it easily 10 times already. It's kind of a fucking masterpiece.
I think the line "that's when I made a white whale named Jacob" has ties to Medium, because in that song he's going over the mindset he was in as a teenager and young adult. In the novel Moby-Dick, the white whale is the villain. In this song, as with many songs, Jakey is the protagonist, but upon making the decision to have sex with his friend's girl, he begins to think of himself as a villain, as a mythical monster whose only purpose is to function both metaphorically and literally as an obstacle to others, resulting in self hatred, tying back into him interpreting his own actions as stupid with the shit ton of nickels lines. I only recently got into Jakey's musical career, but as a big fan of his videos, I was fully willing to take a deeper look at this genuinely impressive and layered writing. Jakey please tell me if I got this wrong, I don't wanna look like a dumb-dumb idiot.
@@tobertcordless2491 Holy shit, you have single-handedly ended their entire commenting & debate career in an instant. What would you like to say for yourself? You have ended a man's entire argument via the corrected of their grammar, after all, there is nothing left for them after that.
What a weird path I went through, putting 2 and 2 together. I subscribed to this channel after I was recommended 'If Movies Were Games'; which is a great video, by the way. And I've had this song on one of my main Spotify playlists, for like over 2 years. I came across this song on a random gaming playlist when you could play Spotify as you play games in the PS4. I thought-what the hell is this shit? I added it, and I've bumped this joint countless times. The commitment you have when you deliver each line is what sold me. Last night, I watched your other video,' Speedrunning', and gave it a thumbs up. I'm pretty sure that effected the RUclips algorithm, because, today, I got a recommendation for your song, 'Pine Barrens'. As I was watching it, I thought to myself, this guy sounds like this other artist I bump all the time. I looked it up on Spotify, seeing that the artist's name is Jakey. So I went back to RUclips and looked up this random ass song I been bumping and lo and behold, same effing channel! I can't believe I've been bumping your music and watching your RUclips channel without even knowing you're the same damn person!
So crazy. Been listening to this for 4 years now. Gets better every listen. Thanks Jakey! Congrats on all the success and cannot wait for your new album!
I feel this shit deeply, sometimes I would get in my feels thinking about like my dog getting old or my feelings for someone that don't feel the same way and I would just go to the gym and work out. Sometimes you just got to move on. But that still doesn't stop you from thinking about it.
Happy October Jakeyboi. By the time I finished typing this, the beat has already dropped, and god damn you did again. Seriously my house is on fire. I need to open this in a field or something next time.
For years I’ve been looking for this type of sound/emotion. I feel I can finally make my own music know that i have the canvas. I cant thank you enough for this. Love you man.
DOG I HAD NO IDEA YOU MADE THIS SONG!!!! I found this a year ago on Spotify and it’s been one of my fave bangers for a while, then I recently found and fell in love with your channel, and didn’t realize for several months that this song was by you????im so proud of u and this just makes me all that more awed by you man, keep doing your thing dude. You’re a massive inspiration to me
This is undoubtedly one of the most relatable, raw, and inspiring pieces of music I've come across. Honestly I've struggled a bit this month and hearing some of these words went to building a fire i'm using to push forward past what could have stopped the progress i've been fighting to make for years now. Thank you.
My guy, I really don't listen to much rap but this slaps, I cannot get it out of my head. Keep up all the good work dude, looking forward to your next tunes
Holy crap dude...this is amazing. All your music has spoken to me deeply the last year. I've been going through the worst breakup in my life, and your music gives me relief.
Dawg, it's literally impossible for you to put out a song that I don't absolutely love and bump like crazy. Thank you so much for doing what you do man. I love getting to vibe to your music and watch your videos dude, you are DEFINITELY appreciated. #HOTBOYNATIONFORLIFE
It's 2022 and I just stumbled across your youtube channel heard this song in one of the ending screens and thought "no fuckin way" I've been listening to it for years but I never looked deeper and now that I'm watching these youtube videos daily I am double astounded by the quality of all the work. This has been a rollercoaster that just keeps going up.
My husband found this song earlier this year, and I heard it in his car. The lyrics hit me like a brick (to the point when it's on, I just have to sit there, listen and think. It's one of my favorites). And it fit so well with a story I've been working on the past year and a half. Thanks for the earworm.
This is the song that made you really click with me as a musician. Loved your videos for a while but it took this track for me to really "get" your tunes, so to speak.
Your channel is genuinely one of the best. All of your videos are relatable in some way. I was born in 00 and only had flash games and N64 for damn near half my life. Idk man your videos made me feel some type of way, anyways, I showed my dad your music back when I found your channel when you dropped the Flash games video. He loved it hahaha he always asked me when you were going to drop new music and i got to tell him today “That new jakey dropped”
I discovered this song and Jakey's content back in my first/second year of middle school and this was my favorite song to put on repeat as I took the bus home from school. Now I'm in my first year of college and hearing this again brought me back a bit. Jakey, thank you and dog bless. (p.s. I'll be back for my final year) Crazy how this song still holds up after 6+ years imo. Anyway, take care whoever is reading : )
2020 just started and i found this song and this will be my song for a long time. Feeling depressed and this song just cuts it deep for me. Been following you for your videos and finally i started listening to your songs
Why am I just NOW in 2021 discovering this amazing song?? I can tell this gonna be one of those songs I listen to on repeat for months and never gets old
watched the season 5 episode 1 of Sopranos today whose scene you used at the start of your song, it was a fucking amazing moment seeing it in the show and realising that I've heard it a thousand times before in your song
I just stumbled across your channel today and seen your other music video not dead yet and wow then this I'm only like 10 seconds in and I'm already like holy shit man you're amazing
Been watching a few years now, generally avoided RUclipsr music in general but WOW. I can't believe how authentic the lyrics and presentation feel here. First RUclipsr Spotify page I've followed, cheers!
My best friend played this song a couple months ago on a road trip. I absolutely fell in love with it. The way it sounds. The lyrics. Your voice. PERFECTION!! ugh it like feels good in my soul. Brings out my goofy side signing and dancing to it. I've been slowly trying to listen to more songs. You are awesome!
I also just really loved the name "Moby Dick" and the ocean themes because 1) shit feels like you're lost at sea and 2) the main instruments used on this track are soundfonts from Donkey Kong Country - one of them being the "Aquatic Accordion."
I"m also really happy with how the music video turned out after the idea spawned in my head.
Lyrics-
(Verse 1)
If I had a nickel
For every time
I think I did
Something stupid
Then I'd have
A shit ton of
Nickels - That shit
Was stupid, now
Run it back
Take it back
Hold it back
Take it back
Run it back
Run it back
Run it back
Imma kill the fuckin
White whale
Imma give the dick
A damn heart attack
If I had a nickel for
Every time
I think I did
Something dumb
I'd be as rich as
A man with no
Kids and a
Decent income
I’d be richer than shit
Call me yung Richie Rich
I'm the 9-4 Macaulay
The Culkin, the kid
I've been stuck in the sea
On the hunt for a taste
Looking for love but I
only caught only caught (bass)
(Chorus)
I
Know
You
Better
Than
You
Know
Yourself
Well
My
Self
Said
You can
Go
Straight to
Hell
Get it, uh
Fuck it up, uh
What’s the point
Of being sad?
Oh you jealous?
Oh you mad?
Honey, you don’t
Know the half
You don’t know, baby
Uh, fuck it up…
(Verse 2)
If I had a nickel
for every time
I think I'm
fallin in love
I don't even
like her that much
----------------------
Shit I'm in love, ok
Run it back
Take it back
Hold it back
Take it back
Run it back
Run it back
Who is that?
I been feeling
Fuckin psychotic
Seeing you and him
I pray for cataracts
If I had a nickel
For every time
I talk but don't
Ever listen
I'd bring home the bacon
Be makin a killin
Be richer than men
Who invented religions
I'm having a vision
I hope it's a great one
No whammys whammys
That's so fuckin Raven
I'm out on the dock
Go to the bay
Hunting for love
But I only caught only caught (bass)
(Chorus)
(Verse 3)
I’m not the one
That you wanted but
Dammit I think I could
Be what you need
I’m not the Honda
You wanted but
Dammit I run and
You got me for free (yeah)
I’m not the puppy
You wanted (uh)
Look at me
Eating the treat
But you know deep
In your mind is a thing
Singing “there’s plenty
Of fish in the sea”
When I was 13
I had my first love
When I was 17
That's when I made love
That's when I made love
That's when I made love
That's when I made a
White whale named “Jacob” (bass)
(Chorus)
NakeyJakey fucking love it jakey
Nioce
You’re killing it man, can’t wait for more!

I second this person's request! Yaaaas hot boy daddy Jakey :^)
Also Google Play music plz.
It's a given that every Jakey song will be catchy, but the singing in this one caught me off guard in a really good way. I love this!
Deadass no song has pumped me up like this, the energy and heart, I just feel it and I fuckin love it
Dude, clean form on those squats. I've been a personal trainer for years, and someone your height having form that clean is rare. Is there anything you can't do?
you really deserve more recognition. i'm certain you'll be big
Every track gets better, Jesus Christ, never stop Jakey.
Good Username I like your username
Jimmy's buzzard Advent it's a good username, yeah.
I'm so glad Spotify showed me this
Was at a fairly low point about half a year ago and this song brought me through it. It motivated me to get back into shape and really take myself into account. I’m still far from perfect, but at least she’s back to help me through it. It payed off. Love you Jakey.
This has become one of my favourite songs of all time. The shear amount of passion you put into your art, it so fucking amazing
Goddamn it jakey. I'm supposed to be studying for my sat exam but now I gotta make sure my house doesn't burn down from the 🔥🔥🔥
Jakey deserves to blow the fuck up fast
Is it fast yet
ok
Hey man, thanks for putting this out for a deadass 23 year old like myself to listen to. It's been an anthem for me as I treat my recent birthday as a wake-up call that I'm letting the good parts of life pass me by. The "What's the point of being sad?" line really hits home.
I remember stumbling across this music video years ago. It kept popping up in my mind randomly over the years, but I could never find it again. Finally, years later, I have found it.
Just wanted to let u know that this was my most played song by spodify this year, still waiting for ur next song
Yep same, I only found this song like 2 months ago so I was very happy with it being the top song for 2018 :P
Same
anyone know whats the background instrument
I’ve never commented on a RUclips video before, but GODDAMN, HOW DO YOU KEEP MAKING BETTER MUSIC THAN MOST MAINSTREAM MUSIC RIGHT NOW!
Dannie E X P O S E D
Oh no
I've been exposed
Colin Doran he's right thow.....jakey makey fire music
JarvoMarvo True jakey make hot ass songs
I'm almost ashamed at how long I've gone without listening to your music, wow.
Also, the term, "white whale" means something to obsess over
U blew my mind
"richer than men who invented religions"
I mean I wish I can be rich as someone these pastors just saying nonsense
@Someone Looks like you need a grammar lesson yourself lolol
@@tobertcordless2491 Holy shit, you have single-handedly ended their entire commenting & debate career in an instant. What would you like to say for yourself? You have ended a man's entire argument via the corrected of their grammar, after all, there is nothing left for them after that.
Azmec They were correcting someone who was being a prick, but ok
Stiltonmajor werid flex but *ok*
Nakey Danky
I don't know what it is about this song, but it still gets me hyped everytime I hear it.
*Your creativity is unreal.*
Completely agree, it blows my mind how he keeps 1 uping himself!
But that still doesn't stop you from thinking about it.
that "know yourself" still gives me chills, i knew it was coming this is like my fourth most played song of yours and it still hits
Supermega sent me here. Maybe I can trust their recommendations after all.
Ed Gaar same here not my normal music I listen too but this song has become a regular on my Spotify playlist
anyone know whats the background instrument
Same!!
Happy October Jakeyboi. By the time I finished typing this, the beat has already dropped, and god damn you did again.
Seriously my house is on fire. I need to open this in a field or something next time.
Francis Saylors I feel like the department of the interior would have something to say about you setting grasslands ablaze
For years I’ve been looking for this type of sound/emotion. I feel I can finally make my own music know that i have the canvas. I cant thank you enough for this. Love you man.
This might actually be my favorite Jakey song, and it had a good bit of competition. Keep up the work, hotboy.
At this point I've definitely watched Jakey work out more than I've ever worked out myself.
You ever find inspiration to just... I dunno. Exist? I want to scream every word at the top of my lungs until I have nothing left.
nice
perfect song for a training montage just saying
Still coming back to this tune again and again ❤
Holy crap dude...this is amazing. All your music has spoken to me deeply the last year. I've been going through the worst breakup in my life, and your music gives me relief.
Jakey, you have no idea how your songs can touch us, bro. Thanks for save our days a little bit.
The song ends in a really unsatisfying way, like a relationship can do I suppose.
What were you doing here with this fire music ur one of my fav youtubers lol
I liked the end
3 years later. still stuck in my head. only perfection can do that.
This is the song that made you really click with me as a musician. Loved your videos for a while but it took this track for me to really "get" your tunes, so to speak.
* Certified Hot Boy Music *
That high note 👌🏽
Nice picture.
saaad
Seriously though, the OOMPH on the "know yourself" and "straight to hell."
Inflections like that are what made Jack Black realize he could sing.
Dude where are you? The world isn't right without you
2020 just started and i found this song and this will be my song for a long time. Feeling depressed and this song just cuts it deep for me.
Been following you for your videos and finally i started listening to your songs
I just found his music too! He is so underrated. This beat slaps!

Took me so long to watch the sopranos, now that I finally saw the sample from this song my life has come full circle.
One of the best songs ever imo. Been listening to this in my daily playlist for years now, wow.

Why am I just NOW in 2021 discovering this amazing song?? I can tell this gonna be one of those songs I listen to on repeat for months and never gets old
Never knew rap could sound great in 12/8 time signature
watched the season 5 episode 1 of Sopranos today whose scene you used at the start of your song, it was a fucking amazing moment seeing it in the show and realising that I've heard it a thousand times before in your song
This happended to me around the same time aswell😭
Never clicked something so fast.
So damn dope my boy ❤
I just stumbled across your channel today and seen your other music video not dead yet and wow then this I'm only like 10 seconds in and I'm already like holy shit man you're amazing
Been watching a few years now, generally avoided RUclipsr music in general but WOW. I can't believe how authentic the lyrics and presentation feel here. First RUclipsr Spotify page I've followed, cheers!
This song is a highlight of good times with my buds in 2017. Thanks Jakey.
You don't understand how hype I get when I see a new song appear in my sub box.
This slaps so fuggin' hard! Jakey my dude, you're a treasure.
This song hurts in the most healing of ways
IMO This is your best song. I keep coming back years later. ❤

Whenever I sing along to any of your music it makes me feel like I am good at it lmao
Dang, this video does this amazing song no justice
