Something i noticed is the use of symmetry. It happens a lot on his journey to becoming an astronaut. But it stops when he goes into space. Nothing looks perfectly mirrored. There is disorder. But, for comfort or from temporary insanity, he invisions what life would've been like if Earth had not blown up. But when the vision fades, so to does the symmetry. When he sees the video feed coming from another astronaut, his face becomes symmetrical, showing how he feels he has a chance at a good life. But that feeling is immediately cut off by all of the debris heading his way. Most of the angles used in that sequence shows intense asymmetry between the two sides of the screen, represting the chaos of what is happening, yet the main astronaut stays in the middle of the screen, possibly representing his attempt to bring order and hope to his life. The inside of the other astronaut's ship has areas that have asymmetry while others have symmetry. This represents how, despite it being far from perfect, this new life is good enough. Of course, this is all speculation on my part. I could be overanalyzing this.

Exactly this! As somebody studying in an honours university, I’ve been thinking of quitting and pursuing game development instead of studying within the fields of medicine/biology. I’ve been so stuck up with achievements and doing whatever is most “prestigous”, but I’m not having fun with any of it. I’m solely doing it to feel like I’ve achieved something. Take care man!

I don't know why, but, there's just something perfect about the song. The video is actually very emotionally captivating. Its about a person who chases a dream to a point where he neglects everything else around him, only to realize that once the world ends his dreams amounted to nothing. The things that actually mattered (family, friends, etc.) ended. Realistically, i think this video portrays extreme dedication to your job. He keeps climbing the ladder in his job in the persuit of happiness, only to realize he wasted away his life chasing a positing and now he has ruined his opportunities to start a family. This realization is symbolised by the bursting of the earth, his "world". With this thought he takes a 180 and decides he wants a family instead, although its too late at this point. In the end he finds comfort in a friend in his same situation. That's what i got from the video :)

I rarely comment cause I think its pointless to essentially shout into the void of the internet. I think its a waste of time and energy. But for this video I'll make an exception solely because maybe someone who has been in my shoes or will soon be in them can resonate with the way I felt about this video and the music. I have ADHD and struggle with focusing a lot. I always sought to support my argument that over focusing and dedicating your life to something was a waste of time. This video reinforced that way of thinking which, in my case, impacted me negatively. I used to watch this in high school and always thought the message of the video was to not take life so seriously and don't waste your time chasing one thing because everything could end in an instant. Now as I'm a bit older I see it differently. Now its, 'Do whatever makes you happy'. Whether it requires focus is not important. All that matters is that you chase after something that gives you drive, purpose, or joy. As I'm preparing to separate from the military and start a new chapter in my life, I'm going to continue chasing what I truly love to do. And I hope whoever decided to stop and read my comment has a wonderful day.

I think you understood the message perfectly well, but your conclusion was incorrect. The point of the video is not that you shouldn't focus on any goals, it's that you shouldn't focus on that goal to the detriment of everything else in your life. The goal is your guiding beacon in the distance, but make time for the important stuff like friends, family and relationships while moving towards that beacon. Because, like you said, it could end in an instant with the beacon forever in the distance. I lived my life like the astronaut and I reached my goal, but it only lasted a short time and now I'm left with nothing because the goal was the only thing I achieved.

@Cyan Animations You’re kind of right. From what I gather, the lyrics seem to be about get out of relationship that involved addiction. The scenario for this video is actually quite a great metaphor for what that kind of relationship ends like. Much like the astronaut who’s whole planet has blown up leaving him alone and isolated; an addict in a relationship or someone in a relationship with an addict, their whole social life(world) is obliterated. Friends who were once there no longer are, leaving the person isolated to fight through/recover from addiction all alone. Those that they loved and trusted have disappeared leaving them with no one to help ease their burden and pain. They can’t let someone else get close for fear of driving them away due to them no understanding or having no patience for the addict to recover (or at least that’s how an addict feels). Seemingly, to them, leaving the only other options being continued self imposed isolation or returning to the one person who may have understood...
After 10 years I am coming back and rewatching this, this animation was one of the main reasons why I wanted to be an artist and continue my art. Such a beautiful song and story.

Well What the fuck can you do? You're drifting through space, with limited oxygen and food supply. Sooner or later the lights will go out and you'll freeze, suffocate or die. Might as well not spend it mourning... At least he was glad he found a companion to spend some time with, before they both die.
Well, there were quite a few tanks of oxygen (i think) and that whale would have enough meat on it for a life time, of course, that would freeze as well, but you can always make a campfire out of pubes, don't know how they are going to survive the electricity problem though, maybe use methane or some shit, i don't know. Hell, maybe they could get lucky and come across a generator floating in the debris, just repair that shit if possible, grab some gas, done, but only if you are lucky enough to find gas in the debris, obviously. I doubt a generator would do shit though. Just realised, doing all this shit would pretty much just be prolonging the inevitable, so that sucks, but either way, i heard whale meat was good, so that's a pro among the many cons.
Even if they survive and solve all those problems, why would they even do that? They are basically the last humans existing and they are only guys, so they are pretty much fucked at that point. They might as well play games until last breath of air.

Yeah, as you get older you kind of start to take things in a more mature and understood manner. The message is way clearer in so many songs along with this one, and that's kind of why our music tastes change, too as we get older. I still remember when this song blew up 5 years after it came out. I was about 12 at the time.

The video is actually very emotionally captivating. Its about a person who chases a dream to a point where he neglects everything else around him, only to realize that once the world ends his dreams amounted to nothing. The things that actually mattered (family, friends, etc.) ended.
Realistically, i think this video portrays extreme dedication to your job. He keeps climbing the ladder in his job in the persuit of happiness, only to realize he wasted away his life chasing a positing and now he has ruined his opportunities to start a family. This realization is symbolised by the bursting of the earth, his "world". With this thought he takes a 180 and decides he wants a family instead, although its too late at this point. In the end he finds comfort in a friend in his same situation. That's what i got from the video :)

I rarely comment cause I think its pointless to essentially shout into the void of the internet. I think its a waste of time and energy. But for this video I'll make an exception solely because maybe someone who has been in my shoes or will soon be in them can resonate with the way I felt about this video and the music.
I have ADHD and struggle with focusing a lot. I always sought to support my argument that over focusing and dedicating your life to something was a waste of time. This video reinforced that way of thinking which, in my case, impacted me negatively.
I used to watch this in high school and always thought the message of the video was to not take life so seriously and don't waste your time chasing one thing because everything could end in an instant.
Now as I'm a bit older I see it differently. Now its, 'Do whatever makes you happy'. Whether it requires focus is not important. All that matters is that you chase after something that gives you drive, purpose, or joy.
As I'm preparing to separate from the military and start a new chapter in my life, I'm going to continue chasing what I truly love to do.

I think you understood the message perfectly well, but your conclusion was incorrect. The point of the video is not that you shouldn't focus on any goals, it's that you shouldn't focus on that goal to the detriment of everything else in your life. The goal is your guiding beacon in the distance, but make time for the important stuff like friends, family and relationships while moving towards that beacon. Because, like you said, it could end in an instant with the beacon forever in the distance.
I lived my life like the astronaut and I reached my goal, but it only lasted a short time and now I'm left with nothing because the goal was the only thing I achieved.

You’re kind of right. From what I gather, the lyrics seem to be about get out of relationship that involved addiction.
The scenario for this video is actually quite a great metaphor for what that kind of relationship ends like. Much like the astronaut who’s whole planet has blown up leaving him alone and isolated; an addict in a relationship or someone in a relationship with an addict, their whole social life(world) is obliterated. Friends who were once there no longer are, leaving the person isolated to fight through/recover from addiction all alone.
Those that they loved and trusted have disappeared leaving them with no one to help ease their burden and pain. Well, there were quite a few tanks of oxygen (i think) and that whale would have enough meat on it for a life time, of course, that would freeze as well, but you can always make a campfire out of pubes, don't know how they are going to survive the electricity problem though, maybe use methane or some shit, i don't know. Hell, maybe they could get lucky and come across a generator floating in the debris, just repair that shit if possible, grab some gas, done, but only if you are lucky enough to find gas in the debris, obviously. I doubt a generator would do shit though.
Just realised, doing all this shit would pretty much just be prolonging the inevitable, so that sucks, but either way, i heard whale meat was good, so that's a pro among the many cons.
Even if they survive and solve all those problems, why would they even do that? They are basically the last humans existing and they are only guys, so they are pretty much fucked at that point. They might as well play games until last breath of air.
