Everyone saying this is all about suicide, but they're mostly missing the point: the song tells the story of a musician. He starts off rejecting any and all criticism, grows cocky and gets fame and money quickly, developing a mild drug addiction. After some time he develops a big fanbase but on doing so loses his integrity and feels disconnected from what he does, from the content he puts out and the fans that follow him. His addiction worsens and, eventually, falls into a depression. His pursuit of money and fame ends with him feeling lonely and lost, leading to his eventual suicide. The song isn't about suicide, the song is about "Imposter Syndrome", by the quote in the song "I feel fear for the very last time" it means he's leaving his emotions to be who his fans want him to be and expect him to be. He's lying about himself about who he is. He has all this fame but feels like he doesn't deserve it. He also feels like his fans are giving him too much power and choosing quality or quantity. By "too much power" that means his fans are saying "do whatever you want", which makes him feel like everything he does just earns him money without actually doing much effort because of his fans giving him too much power and that makes him feel like what he does is just giving him money without much effort, like Midas the god. Everything he touches turns gold, he gets rich without any effort. Also, when he says "I'm losing touch, you get me?". He's saying that like mentioned, Midas, he's losing touch with his fans and surrounded by fame and fortune, and no longer feeling like he's part of humanity, but like a god. "..they let me lie to them..." mean that his fans are not even suspecting anything about what he's saying and just believes him without any evidence of what he said was true or not. It sounds stupidly obvious at first but its basically saying when you become powerful and idolized, "untouchable", it also means you become isolated and can't relate to or "touch" anything or anyone.
OMG I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A COMMENT LIKE THIS! All the comments I’ve seen in this section are about the lyrics, how they’re depressing or talk about suicide. But I just wanted one comment that talks about how the beat is from Nichijou or at least a comment that mentions Nichijou! I love the anime!
I just realized it today. It had been a while since I watched Nichijou, so this song seemed familiar but I couldn’t place it. Then I started watching Nichijou again and I heard it and I had the “AHA!” Moment when I realized that it was the origin for the song.
The weird thing is that person in the song talks about how high class and rich they are. In the Indian social structure the lowest class you can be is an untouchable.
its 2019 and the ending still terrifies me its 2020 and the ending still terrifies me its 2021 and the ending still terrifies me its 2022 and the ending still terrifies me its 2023 and the ending still terrifies me its 2024 and the ending still terrifies me
Here’s something stupid you probably didn’t need to know. The Japanese voice at the beginning is saying “Alright, let’s go! Rock, paper scissors!” And is from the anime “Nichijou: My Ordinary Life”. In fact the melody of this song samples a track from that show
I feel like this song is about a celebrity’s journey to suicide. In the beginning they’re confident and rich and new to fame. They’re sure of themselves and aren’t letting anything get to them. The second verse is after they’ve lived in fame for a while. The fame is getting to their head, but so is the pain. They get so caught up in the game that they lose themselves in their camera personality and forget their actual personality (“Is there a real me?”) They descend into insanity as they lose their personality and develop a God complex, and when it all become too much they commit suicide.
I think this song is deadass just about a musician (prolly the living tombstone) who through his successful music career has built a god complex to cover up low self esteem and mental illness and eventually they mix, leaving him feeling like he is above fear and death as he becomes more suicidal
maybe, and then the other animals like the whale are trying to stop him from committing from suicide. the giraffe and the rhino are toxic "friends" who push away others and make the lion more suicidal. then the finish line at the end might mean the lion has commit and the "wrong way" means that suicide is never the answer.
thank youuuu! I got the notes of suicide, but I was wondering why that was the only thing people were talking about. Your comment sums up what I got out of it quite nicely.
This is so dark but i guess it fits the darkness of the song: I found this song because a 16 yo kid in my city got tortured to death by his so called "friends" and i found his soundcloud where he had not much more than this song. It's such a good song but it makes me incredibly depressed thinking about the fact that he listened to this. Rest in peace Atso
I just noticed that the use of a lion as the main character here actually can refer to how lions are so prideful and "The king of jungle" even tho they really don't do anything, they barely even find food for themselves but everyone sees them as a God without the work needed Edit: *mom I'm famous do you love me now?🤡*
People have been talking about suicide metaphors but I think there's one I didn't see anyone else mention. He fell out of "Sky City" & "returned to sky city" by driving his car into a wall. The fall could be interpreted as suicide, a downward spiral, or a suicide attempt that caused a near death experience but the return is more self explanatory.
Im pretty sure this interpretation is the most accurate, scrolled down all the way to hear the interpretation of the video itself: The person tells himself basically faking his entire personality hence the quotes “is this the real me?” Or “that’s the real me” as well as the title and faking it to his friends which think he’s cooler than he actually is, from the quotes “they say my grass is greener, I think my grass is dank”, “they tell me Im a god, I’m lost in the FACADE”, “they say the grass is GREENER,think my grass is dank”, “they let me LIE to them and don’t feel like they’ve been MISLED” and so on. Everyone doesn’t truly know him and deep down inside he’s suffering, and he knows that, technically defined from “Do you feel me? Take a look inside my brain, The people always different but it always feels the same” and specially “pain pills, nice cloths”, etc, Everyone thinks he brushes off the haters even though it’s quote the opposite, coming from the sentence “the haters wanna hurt me and I’m laughing at the pain” (his pain), he’s rich and worth a lot due to the fact he displays “it’s cool but I don’t see them laughing at my money though” and “touch me, Midas”, (one of the royal house of Phrygia, someone in Greek mythology who turned things into pure gold), The whole time he’s just trying to get by without any trouble (“stayin still, eyes closed, let the world just pass me by”) eventually, he goes crazy (losing sleep while I lose my mind”) most likely he committed suicide at the end presumably of falling from a high place (clarified from “I feel fear for the very last time”, “so high up I’m near divine, lean in let go”) VIDEO INTERPRETATION: The whole video is a metaphor, based upon the lyrics, that for him, his life was perceived better than it actually was, same goes for the animals in the vid, since the characters in the game were exactly the same as the animals in real life except considered “better”, just like with the guys life, but ya ur explanation could be a slice of it
The video game character didn't do that on purpose though- I get where you're coming from but *the video game character is just a VIDEO GAME character*
i feel like the song perfectly portrays wanting to be perfect and the inability to reciprocate others adoration because of the fake life that you lead on. the life that you made for yourself eventually led to you alienateing everyone that actually cared about you. that eventually leads to suicidal thoughts and attempts since you eventually can’t even recognize yourself anymore. you want redemption but you don’t know how to change yourself since you have lived with this fake identity of who you’re supposed to be for so long.
1:46 “I feel fear for the very last time” I feel like it means suicidal thoughts and wanting to k1ll urself to never feel fear ever again and the thought of living in a fake life with fake people so even when you come back to the real world you won’t tell the difference
the lyrics “when you become untouchable you’re unable to touch” means everything he touches will have the midas effect, which means everything he does will be publicized and he has no way of hiding anything from his fans
Não sei porque mas essa música ne causa uma sensação de nostalgia e melancólica, e uma música que fica na minha cabeça, e não importa os anos que se passem eu sempre lembro dela
As stupid as this sounds, this song is extremely deep and profound. Basically tells a story about a person who is stuck in a god complex because of everyone’s constant appraisal of them and even though they act like they don’t need the appraisal they would be “lost without their love”. And the narcissistic and overconfidence is leading the person into thinking that it would be fitting to be part of Midas’s design, which is a solid gold statue of himself. Not just that, but many lines in the song directly say that he has the god complex, and saying that they will rise above and that they act like they are above people. Rare to find a song that has a genuine story, and TLT tells stories perfectly in their music.
"Me me big boy" is a very underrated line in this. People fail to see the true meaning behind this quote at the beginning of the video where it represents him telling us that he is, in fact, a big boy. However, by saying in a way that a child would say it completely contradicts the statement itself, showing that he never fully matured into the mindset of an adult. Very sad
California Calico fuck sorry it’s just there’s a lot of “deep” theories in this comment section and i can’t really tell which ones are or aren’t sarcastic
People can't touch you. You're too popular. They can't hurt you. Too many people praise you over the people who want to tear you down. But at the same time, due to your fame, your image, you can't reach out to anyone else. Reputation won't let you. You can't talk seriously. I think that's what it is. And I can see it a bit, if it is. Most of the comments on the video aren't commenting on the message of the song. Possibly don't see it. An attempt to give a comment on a problem in a song and people just kinda pass it by. I think the two best examples I can think of actually is, one, he could just lie about some things, and people would just follow like sheep because he's famous and they admire him, they refuse to see him wrong. Which kinda leads me into the logan paul situation, with the dead body and all. Apologizes and takes the video down, and people are still telling him he's right, he should keep it up, the REST of the world is wrong. His fans won't listen to him when he tries to be genuine, show he made a mistake. That fame from his fans. They can't be penetrated. Nor can an actual message get through them. Can't reach out to them. Can't touch them either. I just assume this because of the lines earlier "They let me lie to them, and don't feel like they've been mislead" and "No matter what I make, they never see mistakes" But there's no guarantee. These are just my thoughts. I think other peoples thoughts on the message gathered would lead to a more accurate assumption. Hope I helped, at least!
i love reading deep into the lyrics... there’s such a rich value in them and no matter how you look at it, i feel you could find something new if that makes sense
Finally someone who shares my passion, one of the biggest things I look for is how much effort the artist actually put into the lyrics it's like a poem, you should be able to look through all the lines and find a meaning behind it that isn't obvious
The lyrics and the ending suggest the animals (people) have gone down the wrong road. “Wrong way,” “last place,” “game over,” combined with the lyrics about someone bragging about drugs and money when in reality they don’t like the life they live. They are high to get out of reality.
What appears on the screen: a lion, a girrafe and a hog vibing while fighting gnomes What the lyrics mean: a man who's success in life was so big that he cannot be himself or else he'll become poor and die without nobody remembering him
Also how does pumped up kicks have anything to do with this?? One is about a school shooting and one is about being lost in fame. I don’t see the connection at all.
@@pepeke7027 Pumped up kicks is not about school shooting, Foster the People don't play that song anymore bc everyone keep saying that and they got really mad, so they ban the song
Akun Senpai Ok, i’ll play. It wasn’t about a school shooting but Mark Foster stated that it was in reference to shootings due to an incident that occurred in January 2010. Regardless, the songs are entirely different, and I wasn’t too far off in my judgement. Edit: also the reason for it being banned is false. They didn’t get angry over the false interpretation, but it was banned because of its violent nature. Also, they don’t play the song anymore; not because they’re upset about the false interpretation; but because “It’s like pushing your song in somebody’s wound - I don’t really want to do it. And so yeah, it’s something that I’ve been wrestling with.” -Mark Foster. Given that, there’s a high indication that your reasoning is by no means correlated, since their decision is based on it being somewhat hurtful and repetitive.
Three years since I last came here. I missed so much back then. The Living Tombstone's passion does not disappoint, even now. Best of luck with your current and future projects, Gents.
How wonderful. Ordinary Life ages like a fine wine. I am quite different from the version of me that first fell in love with this, and with my development I have gained new interpretations to dwell on. The depth of care and self that was required to construct this piece moves me.
In the beginning he's brash and has the attitude of thinking he's perfect, and all the people around him try to tell him he's doing things wrong, then later in the song he fills the people around him with yesmen, and he realizes that he's emotionally a fraud, and can't get out of the box he's been put it. He wants perfection so bad he wasn't true to himself, so he went too far. "Touch me Midas" line is a good analogy for that. He sealed himself in gold externally, but inside he's still broken and unhappy.
wow, you guys are dark. this is just about becoming a celebrity and turning incredibly vain as a result. "touch me midas" means he wants to be wealthy and idolized, like a gold statue of himself. "i feel fear for the very last time" means his ego has become so great that he no longer feels doubt despite deep down believing that he shouldn't think this highly of himself. being "unable to touch" just means he can't really connect with anyone anymore because he's too full of himself ("untouchable"). "if i fall i think i'll fly" means any mistakes he makes will be aggressively denied and/or justified by his legion of fans, because they idolize him and want their mental image of him to remain perfect against all logic and reason. the end represents how even if he does everything horribly wrong, he still feels like the winner because he's living in a fantasy.
@@thebestfontever Bruh tell me how "World is, below. So far up, I'm near Divine. Lean in, let go. I feel fear for the very last time." Doesn't sound like someone jumping off a building.
"Touch me, Midas, make me part of your design." This lyrics is so cool and i like it. Note: For those who doesnt know what does this lyrics mean, he says that he wants Midas to touch him so he can turn to Midas' design which means, "gold". Everything that Midas touches turns into a gold.
And because of his greed his Wife and daughter turned into golf stautied and so did the butler's and guards and everyone and everything around Him, thankfully he didn't touch the continent or else Europe and Africa and the Middle East and Asia would become a gold he'll haha
I love the fact that even though this song has an original intending meaning by TLT, it can be interpreted in many different ways. Whether you think it's about imposter syndrome, suicide/mental illness in general, the god complex and fakeness that frequently comes from fame, a combination of the above, or something else entirely you really can't say it's a wrong interpretation. That's what's great about music and this song displays that so we'll alongside being incredibly catchy and well written.
@@cwffingrll THAT'S A BIT SUSSY Seriously tho, imposter syndrome is basically where someone will doubt their own abilities to do something and fear of being exposed as a fraud, or "imposter".

I like how so many people have their own interpretations of what the song is about, depression, fame, mistakes, some combination there of and some totally different. I think thats how its supposed to be with impactful songs, it can speak different messages and touch people in their own way. For me, it kindof reminds me of the idea of being depressed and suicidal and noone around you sees it, they think youre doing great, and you just keep acting like its true because you dont know how to ask for help or dont want to bother them. The goofy video with the unsettling ending and the cheery tone against the darker lyrics sortof give me that vibe.
yeayeayea that's the point i love how its not obvious and its meant to fool you into being charmed by the bright colors and bouncy rhythm. Even the lyrics are sugar coated and everything in the song is a metaphor for something darker. Its so addicting and I'm so in love with the complex themes.
this is the thrill i live for. there is always something that the community finds in the artist's songs, always a portion that really impacts them, this song does that and so much more.
i love how the chorus gets darker and darker the longer you listen. at the beginning it just sounds like he's unaffected by negativity, and is generally doing well for himself. but as the song goes on, you kind of start to realize that the lines indicate him committing suicide, especially as the song begins to talk about losing touch with reality as a result of being famous. like "i feel fear for the very last time" sounds like a positive thing, as in he's not afraid anymore. but as you listen to the chorus again, you kind of realize that when you commit suicide you certainly must feel fear while doing so, and it's not like you're gonna get a chance to feel it again afterwards.
Little theory, This is the lion guy telling his friends his problems while they are playing a game and being high on drugs. This shows how active the comments still are, Lol.
Yeah my guess is that they are celebrities that have their own racing game hence the god complex and the drugs of how a lot of stars become drug addicts
Everyone: oh yeah this song is about suicide and drugs and how the person singing gets tired of fame Me 2 years ago when this song came out: DANG THIS IS A STRAIGHT BOP
@@whosgraceee in Greek mythology everything that king Midas touched turned to gold so that line is basically saying like the things celebrities touch is tainted by their fame.
"They tell me Jesus walks, I tell them money talks." "Touch me, Midas, make me part of your design." "They tell me I'm a god, I tell them I'm lost in a facade." This song is so powerful.
@@astro-nate6848 This song is about the life of rich famous celebrity's, at- least I assume. When you're a celebrity you have many fans. And maybe you get a crush and want to date them. But there are many other celebrity's who would like to date you, even if you don't want them to. If you would date one of your fans you would get hate. That's the dilemma.
Damn. The last part really hits hard, the whole symbolism of the fact that they were in a race and that they were in last place and had gone the wrong way, yet still made it to the finish line. Again, damn.
Yeah, and the realization that the colorful characters we see in the game are just more vibrant versions of the actual players; they idolize what they could be, but they're chasing the wrong thing- going the wrong way. It's all about the dehumanization of people once they arrive at fame, and once you find it, you'll wish you never had.
Those lyrics... Unbelievable. I'm convinced those guys are geniuses Especially the "stayin' still, eyes closed, let the world just pass me by" that's my favourite part.
@@wailingchildsad520 It’s fine! The lyrics “It’s cool but I don’t see them laughing at my money though. They spitting facts at me, I’m spitting tracks, catch me? When you become untouchable, you’re unable to touch.” The musician just wanted to be well liked and admired by popularity and their “friends” doubt and Misbelief them AT FIRST. Sooner or later they get famous and unfortunately, they got an excessive self-importance, needing for admiration, and lack of empathy. A bit of infinitesimal hate can lead to their breakdown like the lyrics “The haters wanna hurt me and I’m laughing at the pain”. Their difficult career, alcohol abuse, and money problems shown in the video are affected immensely from their narcissistic god-like disorder.

I really like this theory!

A sad journey
Yea
I think this song is deadass just about a musician (prolly the living tombstone) who through his successful music career has built a god complex to cover up low self esteem and mental illness and eventually they mix, leaving him feeling like he is above fear and death as he becomes more suicidal
maybe, and then the other animals like the whale are trying to stop him from committing from suicide. the giraffe and the rhino are toxic "friends" who push away others and make the lion more suicidal. then the finish line at the end might mean the lion has commit and the "wrong way" means that suicide is never the answer.
I’m pretty sure your right, I read somewhere that the song was about Yoav’s life, which correlates to the name of the song “my ordinary life”.

Im pretty sure this interpretation is the most accurate, scrolled down all the way to hear the interpretation of the video itself:
The person tells himself basically faking his entire personality hence the quotes “is this the real me?” Or “that’s the real me” as well as the title and faking it to his friends which think he’s cooler than he actually is, from the quotes “they say my grass is greener, I think my grass is dank”, “they tell me Im a god, I’m lost in the FACADE”, “they say the grass is GREENER,think my grass is dank”, “they let me LIE to them and don’t feel like they’ve been MISLED” and so on. Everyone doesn’t truly know him and deep down inside he’s suffering, and he knows that, technically defined from “Do you feel me? Take a look inside my brain, The people always different but it always feels the same” and specially “pain pills, nice cloths”, etc, Everyone thinks he brushes off the haters even though it’s quote the opposite, coming from the sentence “the haters wanna hurt me and I’m laughing at the pain” (his pain), he’s rich and worth a lot due to the fact he displays “it’s cool but I don’t see them laughing at my money though” and “touch me, Midas”, (one of the royal house of Phrygia, someone in Greek mythology who turned things into pure gold), The whole time he’s just trying to get by without any trouble (“stayin still, eyes closed, let the world just pass me by”) eventually, he goes crazy (losing sleep while I lose my mind”) most likely he committed suicide at the end presumably of falling from a high place (clarified from “I feel fear for the very last time”, “so high up I’m near divine, lean in let go”)
VIDEO INTERPRETATION:
The whole video is a metaphor, based upon the lyrics, that for him, his life was perceived better than it actually was, same goes for the animals in the vid, since the characters in the game were exactly the same as the animals in real life except considered “better”, just like with the guys life, but ya ur explanation could be a slice of it

i feel like the song perfectly portrays wanting to be perfect and the inability to reciprocate others adoration because of the fake life that you lead on. the life that you made for yourself eventually led to you alienateing everyone that actually cared about you. that eventually leads to suicidal thoughts and attempts since you eventually can’t even recognize yourself anymore. you want redemption but you don’t know how to change yourself since you have lived with this fake identity of who you’re supposed to be for so long.

Midas is a legendary Phrygian king who is given the power of turning everything he touches to gold.
Rare to find a song that has a genuine story, and TLT tells stories perfectly in their music.
it’s actually about having imposter syndrome and feeling undeserving their fame and feeling disconnected to other people because of it but good theory

same here
How, it doesn’t make sence
TheFunGod If you can't be touched, then you can't touch, because you're untouchable
The Ramenator I know what it means but just like what does it mean in the real world now
People can't touch you.
I just assume this because of the lines earlier "They let me lie to them, and don't feel like they've been mislead" and "No matter what I make, they never see mistakes"
But there's no guarantee.

Something about it is just incredibly unsettling
In the beginning he's brash and has the attitude of thinking he's perfect, and all the people around him try to tell him he's doing things wrong, then later in the song he fills the people around him with yesmen, and he realizes that he's emotionally a fraud, and can't get out of the box he's been put it. He wants perfection so bad he wasn't true to himself, so he went too far. "Touch me Midas" line is a good analogy for that. He sealed himself in gold externally, but inside he's still broken and unhappy.

@@Magnificentzee23 that was not me
wow, you guys are dark. this is just about becoming a celebrity and turning incredibly vain as a result.

For me, it kindof reminds me of the idea of being depressed and suicidal and noone around you sees it, they think youre doing great, and you just keep acting like its true because you dont know how to ask for help or dont want to bother them. The goofy video with the unsettling ending and the cheery tone against the darker lyrics sortof give me that vibe.

i love how the chorus gets darker and darker the longer you listen. at the beginning it just sounds like he's unaffected by negativity, and is generally doing well for himself. but as the song goes on, you kind of start to realize that the lines indicate him committing suicide, especially as the song begins to talk about losing touch with reality as a result of being famous. like "i feel fear for the very last time" sounds like a positive thing, as in he's not afraid anymore. but as you listen to the chorus again, you kind of realize that when you commit suicide you certainly must feel fear while doing so, and it's not like you're gonna get a chance to feel it again afterwards.

"Touch me, Midas, make me part of your design."
"They tell me I'm a god, I tell them I'm lost in a facade."
This song is so powerful.
Agreed.
The lines "when your untouchable your unable to touch" made me feel some type of way
@@astro-nate6848 This song is about the life of rich famous celebrity's, at- least I assume.

It's all about the dehumanization of people once they arrive at fame, and once you find it, you'll wish you never had.

this is such a good way of describing how fame can easily change a celebrity’s humanity and compassion.
Facts
Sorry to be dumb but what part of this has fame involved?
@@wailingchildsad520 try to understand 2:09 onwards
@@wailingchildsad520 also at 2:28
@@wailingchildsad520 It’s fine! The lyrics “It’s cool but I don’t see them laughing at my money though. They spitting facts at me, I’m spitting tracks, catch me? I’m spitting gold out my records, know you can’t combat me.”, “Making so much bread, I don’t care that they’re being fake”, “Can you heal me? Have I gained too much? When you become untouchable, you’re unable to touch.” The musician just wanted to be well liked and admired by popularity and their “friends” doubt and Misbelief them AT FIRST. Sooner or later they get famous and unfortunately, they got an excessive self-importance, needing for admiration, and lack of empathy. A bit of infinitesimal hate can lead to their breakdown like the lyrics “The haters wanna hurt me and I’m laughing at the pain”. Their difficult career, alcohol abuse, and money problems shown in the video are affected immensely from their narcissistic god-like disorder. Def one of my fav songs, Sorry for making this very long haha.
