    Isn't it strange that every time someone stands up to preach Peace that they end up suddenly dead. It would seem that for centuries man has decided to follow the route to open warfare, even when all people want is to live in Peace.

      Kris lost a lot of popularity because he wrote songs against wars even though he was raised in a military family.

    • @mikegrey5663
      @mikegrey5663 3 года назад +4

      @@rubycourey1944 didn't know that. I remember Johnny had some issues because of his songs for the Native Americans and he even wrote an advertisement and had it in all the billboard magazines challenging the stations to play his song about Ira

    • @Micke_K
      @Micke_K 2 года назад

      Its not strange at all because war benefits the economy and these preachers, in some politicans eyes, create chaos and that kills the politics for the warmongering politicans and in peace they loose money.
      Its fucked up!

    • @charlotte50224
      @charlotte50224 2 года назад +4

      @@rubycourey1944 Where did you hear that? From some of his military oriented family or their friends? I think you're totally wrong. By the time Kris did this song he was already a huge star! And NEVER in his career had he backed or supported war! And anyone who was actually a fan of his would have known his feelings already if they bothered to listen to his lyrics. His true fans agreed with him! He lost no one who was actually fan, over any of his lyrics. If anything, this probably just gave his family more of an excuse to turn their backs on him. But they'd already written him off when he went to Nashville, instead of teaching English at West Point. And thank goodness he did that or the world would have missed out on his amazing talent!!

  • @mikehill584

    Can't believe, when this song was released, it could not get any radio play, because it was said to be too "controversial". Just another way of saying, it speaks truth. Our man, Kris, wrote and scored another classic.

    Wow! I can't believe I have never heard of this song. I found the episode of Johnny Cash Show where Johnny Cash had told him that he would like to sing his song and I was blown away. After that i came here to hear his version. Kris Kristofferson is the of the last of the storytellers. After seeing this I now understand his song Sister Sinead. Thank you Kris.

    "They Killed Him"
    There was a man named Mahatma Ghandi
    He would not bow down, he would not fight
    He knew the deal was down and dirty
    And nothing wrong could make it right away
    But he knew his duty, and the price he had to pay
    Just another holy man who tried to make a stand
    MY GOD, THEY KILLED HIM!
    Another man from Atlanta, Georgia
    By the name of Martin Luther King
    He shook the land like rolling thunder
    And made the bells of freedom ring today
    With a dream of beauty that they could not burn away
    Just another holy man who dared to be a friend
    MY GOD, THEY KILLED HIM!
    The only son of God Almighty
    The holy one called Jesus Christ
    Healed the lame and fed the hungry
    And for his love they took his life away
    On the road to glory where the story never ends
    Just the holy son of man we'll never understand
    MY GOD, THEY KILLED HIM!
    Sing about Mahatma Ghandi
    Sing of Martin Luther King
    Sing Of Jesus Christ Almighty
    And the brothers Kennedy

    Dear Kris Kristofferson,
    Thank you for being a genuine artist.
    I liked your work in Sam’s western.
    And of course your performance in Alice.
    I love this song. It’s something to cling to, during 2020.
    To me, the song ultimately conveys that dying as a martyr. Is a big blessing in heaven. Sad to see people who just wanted to express light, get Killed for it.
    Thanks for all the is incredible inspiring work. You’re a light in my book!

    78 years old, a veteran who is disgusted with himself for serving in these wars for profit. I came upon 2 of Kris' songs that have a lot of meaning to me and have been buried in the background. Mahatma Gandhi and Johnny Lobo.
    Can't make a stand hoping for peace in merika. Rip MLK, Kris, Waylon Gandhi. Bobby K and Johnny Lobo. And all the vets who got sucked into serving.

    Saw him at the Union Chapel in London, England yesterday. Incredible performance. Some of his songs i prefer live than the studio versions. Wish i could meet him and tell him to make a live album

    I really appreciate this video showing Anwar Sadat (1:44) - President of Egypt and perhaps the only real chance for peace in the middle east, ever. MY GOD THEY KILLED HIM!! 10-6-81 RIP Anwar.
