I heard Rita being interviewed about her marriage to Kris. She said she had to finally take her daughter and leave because of all the women he had on the road. It was a situation where she had to save herself from an unfaithful spouse. She said she would always love him but she had to leave for self preservation!
I’m sure her story is true but, Kris had some major demons going on. I don’t excuse what he did or what she needed to do but, damn all those demons he had to deal with gave us probably one of the best song writers in generations. None, absolutely none, of todays singers/writers could even lick his boots. It’s terrible to appreciate the results of someone’s pain but, listening to his music puts us on another plane.
This is one of the songs I heard in 1972 that made me want to find someone to help me make it through the night.. 50 years later I'm still waiting. Classic songs never disappear.

@@mikefs340 I saw them once together at a concert in the SF Bay Area. They were fantastic together, though I like Janis Joplin's version of "Me and Bobby McGee the very best.
@@mikefs340 I was so sad when they divorced - there was no other male female duo that was quite like them, but know that Kris found the right person for him and found God. I don't know anything about Rita's personal life after their divorce, but her solo voice was still so beautiful and enjoyable to listen to.
When he sang to her, he was at his best.😁😉 This is as sensual as the big dance in “Dirty Dancing.” I would bet he wrote this for her. It truly belongs to THEM!
I was lucky to see Kris and Rita headline an all day Country Bluegrass Festival in October 1973, when they came on stage that night they were backlit by a huge golden Harvest Moon, it was incredible and yes their love just oozed all over, fantastic day and night. They don’t have shows like that now. $10.00 tickets and I got tipsy on the tequila some people bought and went skinny dipping in the lake, very early 70’s.❤❤❤❤
Wow Amazing. She's beautiful here, and what a voice. And he wrote one absolutely beautiful song. They were great together here. Looked like they were in love when performing together.
Rita Coolidge was married to Kris Kristofferson from 1973 to 1980. … In her memoir, Delta Lady, Coolidge described her marriage to Kristofferson as volatile due to his alcoholism and rampant infidelity. She revealed he was also emotionally abusive and would belittle her talent. When they divorced she did not ask him for anything.
Gosh that was so beautiful.. I’ll hope that Chris Kistopherson’s heart was touched .. I fell assured that Rita’s was even though she just had to leave eventually 😢
A beautiful song sung by two people with beautiful voices. I have listened to this song so many times and never get tired of hearing it sung by Rita and Kris.
@Mary Adams well good choice I got the opportunity to meet in person Intriguing singer and also put an electrifying performances to go can you check my description please so you can write to me on email I put out my email there as I'm not always on here
It was beautiful while it lasted, it seemed a shame when it ended, but they both ended up happy with new and satisfying relationships. As Jessi Colter remarked "Sometimes that heat burns you."
Instant connections happen to people all the time. Sometimes it’s just the appreciation for the blue eyes, the smile with a big laugh, or a profile, quickly gone. Other times the connection lasts for years, decades, even though the connection is only briefly acted upon a few times. Did I wish for more? Of course. Did I know as well as he did we’d be a disaster actually together? Reluctantly, yes. Did I love him until the day he died & still do? Absolutely.

"Help Me Make It Though the Night" can come off as a cheap "third-rate rendezvous" pick-up song. Rita Coolidge makes it a soft, sensuous, delicate, romantic love song. Love it.
That song was sung by many people and it was a great song every time. This version is my favorite but I take exception to it being called “third rate” at any level.

She mentioned drugs.
He definitely was a wild thing. So happy he’s found Jesus now!😊😊
Noone should ever judge a woman for having had enough.

Happens every day. Part of life, unfortunately. My ex-husband did the exact same thing to me.
Rita Coolidge's voice was about my favorite female singer in the 1970s and 80s.

Seriously they were not a beautiful couple. He was abusive and cheated on her multiple times did drugs and drank, and was a horrible husband.
Such an amazingly beautiful song. They were perfect together. You can see, feel how deeply he loved her.Surely he has regrets.

Help Me Make It Through the Night ...written by Chris
Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Layin' soft upon my skin
Like the shadows on the wall
Come and lay down by my side
'Til the early morning light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night
I don't care who's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord, tonight, I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
Lord, it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
Lord, it's sad to be alone
Woah - this is so intimate…🔥
