It was a situation where she had to save herself from an unfaithful spouse. She said she would always love him but she had to leave for self preservation!
I’m sure her story is true but, Kris had some major demons going on. I don’t excuse what he did or what she needed to do but, damn all those demons he had to deal with gave us probably one of the best song writers in generations. None, absolutely none, of todays singers/writers could even lick his boots. It’s terrible to appreciate the results of someone’s pain but, listening to his music puts us on another plane.
This is one of the songs I heard in 1972 that made me want to find someone to help me make it through the night.. 50 years later I'm still waiting. Classic songs never disappear.
