What a wonderful duet. You can see in their faces how in love there are. It makes me sad each time I see them singing together to know they did not make it as a couple.

@@summer2786Wow, thanks for pointing that out. Didn’t see it at first. She reached out to grab him or hold his hand or something, and he brushed her hand away. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to perform these types of songs while experiencing marital or relationship troubles.

I never understand why Kris and Rita are never on any greatest duet list.
When they look at each other I almost cry. What a sad story. Rita’s book filled in a lot of the good and bad
But she even said years later they have a special bond.
This is one of the saddest songs ever. They loved each other, perhaps will do so forever but like so many, could not find the path towards staying together.
They were such a lovely couple....true love there for sure.

What a beautiful song, I ran six miles today listening to just is song. Sad they were singing their life. How I wish they could have worked it out. I spent the day listening to her story. Glad they stayed friends to the end.
They did NOT stay friends. After she ripped him apart in her book at a time when he was 80 years old and they thought he had Alzheimers, I was told that neither he nor any of his children (except the one they had together) ever spoke to her again. After reading that book, I have never had any use for Rita Coolidge.

About the 10th time I watched this, I noticed a kind of subtle sadness in Kris's eyes. Perhaps he knew they were drifting apart and just wanted to suppress it. Which makes the meaning of these lyrics even more real.

I am so hooked to this ... just can't get enough of them and their music. Rita's vibrato and unique half raspy voice is absolutely lovely and magnetic. Such priceless gift!
You could see the sadness in her eyes as they sang. A hurt love leaves a forever pain. Such sorrow has destroyed so many great loves the first love always lasts the longest. The first kiss the best . The first child a for ever happiness.
But... Rita was not Kris's first love. He had been married to Fran before. Neither was Kris Rita's first big love 😊

I remember watching this show. My husband and I got married in 74 and he thought she was so beautiful. Of course I was jealous but at the same time, I thought she was gorgeous and talented myself. I also loved Kris Kristofferson. My husband and I are still married today. This brought back great memories, that I had forgotten about. Thank you for posting this.

Back in 1973 this was Farlon Oakley and my song. He passed in 1976 at the age of 21 I will always love him, not a week goes by that I don't think about him or relive our time together. We had a story.

I had an uncle and one of my grandfathers who became alcoholics and you would not recognize the otherwise sweet men when they were drunk. They hit their wives when drunk and would not even remember it later. I am glad Kris stopped drinking for good but I have to say I loved the albums they did together and was so sorry there wouldn't be more. I am glad this last marriage is a happy one. We all do make mistakes and we can indeed change for the better. He has done that very well.
you can see the tension, they both want to be together but they know it will only end up in heartache.
The song is something like their relationship... each so wonderful, yet it didn't work. I saw them in concert when Rita was pregnant. Must've been 1974. Such great harmony but listening to their albums told the story. Love 'em both.

hadn't heard of Rita Coolidge. What a couple, they are singing together but separating, yet they look as though they still love one another. How sad. Love their music, will now be listening to them every day now. My favourite now deceased American was and still is Elvis Presley, what a great singer of any genre, good looks, stage presence, etc a gift from God!
I'm rambling now but wanted to tell you how much I appreciate the music that came out of USA. Kris has a something I cannot quite explain other than to say he appeals to me and I'm sure many ladies in US feel the same.

my husband passed away when he was 39 on xmas eve 91 I still love him and believe I will see him again as I often feel him with me I know his body is ashes now and so will mine some day but our spirits that connected still have that thread so glad to read you took the good and didn't stay bitter about the bad

I think Kris and Rita's best work was on their Full Moon Album. If youve never had a chance to listen to this Album you are missing out. My favorite song on the Album is Got To Take Some Time For Love. And this was my wife's favorite Album she was in love with Kris, and I never told her but I was in love with Rita. Not really I happened to love my sweetly, and I hope she's resting in peace I just know she is.
I like Loving Arms..not written by Kris but they did a Great version!
Timeless music and love. I was a teenager or young adult when this music was happening...I still love it, listen to it, ...and actually raised my girls listening to this music...REAL music and real love. What is the old saying....live and learn.

Wow need to listen to more of Rita. Chris' harmony was impeccable here.
Rita's greatest song is called, The Way That I Loved You. Unfortunately you can only hear it if you have her Greatest Hits Album. It is a mesmerizing, tear jerking song with beautiful orchestration that had to be about Kris. The song is hard to find but, as you will hear, well worth it. I had the album for dozens of years before I Discovered it. The Way that I Loved You is the next to last or last song on the album.
yes I agree re it's Kris . it's also on her 'Thinkin about you ' & the Delta Lady cd's which I have. my fav cd of Kris & Rita together has to be Full Moon , with a couple of songs they wrote together , but I love all their albums.
Even in a song of a breakup you two have managed to have lyrics, sound and rendition a perfect blend of a captivating listening .

Yep, they really loved each other. They still do. They both have found another love to marry, but they are still friends. And they have a wonderful daughter together. That girl maybe saved Kris's life. His own words. Rita said some interesting things about their love and divorce

I agree, one can see it... Kris now finishes his solo concerts with this song, looking up to heaven with the last line... at some concerts he then sings Why me Lord.
it is great when new fans discover an older talent like this, but it is a little annoying to read some of the comments where wrong or sketchy info is put out. any of you guys that like this great talented man just take 2 minutes and look up his bio, he is a very remarkable person. i will add just this one thing, he was very well educated, im not sure just what it takes to be a Rhodes scholar but he was, and he was already assigned to be a teacher at west point when he decided to pursue his career as a song writer.

I definitely love Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge songs together duet. Kris is handsome and Rita is beautiful. They were married but did not last forever due to not compatible in everything. In the end they had to part with new undertakings and found new spouses. For Rita she found a Japanese tycoon in their old age. My favourite song they sand together duet "Bobby McGhee".
Just seeing Kris smile/grin with that eye twinkle melts me.
