I think Johnny cash made a difference in people’s thoughts of their life’s and happy moments and less of their problems and bad moments god bless you rip Johnny cash we love you
Der Mann stellt sich einfach dort hin und singt, ohne irgendwelchen Schnickschnack und mir stellt es alle Haare auf. Einer der besten Menschen die es gab!
The lyrics to this song from Kris combined with Johnny Cash's great feeling and charm are awesome. Rest in peace Johnny, your love and passion will live on.
+Amy Kelly Do you hear the kids singing backup? They were local school boys that Johnny recruited and rehearsed for this one performance. Very typical Cash and an experience I bet those kids have never forgotten.
The BEST version of this song I ever heard! From the Man in Black himself! GREAT lyrics too! RIP John as well as to all the heroes mentioned in that track!
I pretty much agree with every word. I put my love of Johnny Cash and my library of his music up against just about anyone I know. And I love this version of this song. But check out Floyd Westerman's version - it is awesome, and I know Johnny would approve!
Wow what a song & from my favorite man, Johnny Cash! Makes me cry, touches your Heart: to the core of my Soul. Your highly missed, my Brother in Jesus Christ!!! 🕯🕇🛐🕇🕯 What a beautiful & amazing song. Rip: Johnny & June Cash **Your one of a kind people** Wow! May the Lord Bless me and smile upon my life as He did in Both of your lives. Amen and Amen
Johnny Cash’s music transcends time!! This song is even more meaningful today (in July 2020) given everything that is going on in America at the moment. Johnny did not just have musical talent - he was a man whose choice of songs/words was visionary- his depth, sensitivity and creative courage is sorely missed and is so needed in 2020!
On April 4, 50 years ago, #MartinLutherKing was killed. When I think of him, his actions and his words, the first thing that comes to mind is that he was a prophet in the biblical sense of the term. His fight against all discrimination, inequality and poverty was inspired by the Gospel and I think that every Christian, who cares about social problems, must see in him a model and a source of inspiration.
This is 1984, so you would not hear it in 1974 or soon after. You can find other versions of the song on RUclips by Kris and the Highwaymen. I like this one best with the schoolboys singing background.
I love this song. I had never heard it before. It brought me to tears. And, I have posted it on my facebook and my friends are re-posting it. It will go around and I hope so it keeps going around on facebook. Thank you for the post. Truly beautiful.
Thank you for your efforts. Occasionally, I do notice a surge in views for one of the videos, but I rarely know the reason for the increase. I guess that's what happens. It gets shared on social media.
Johnny Cash was universal. The older he become, the more liberal he became. He opposed all war and violence, he loved Jimmy Carter and was friends with Al Gore. He loved Dixie and the south, but he always claimed to equally love New York, California and Jamaica. He played for the prisoners, but he did many police benefits, too. He was an ordained Baptist minister, but he felt Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus were just as right as he was with their own philosphies.

If anyone rises above the norm and tries to teach love peace and compassion it isnt long before they put a stop to it. You cant make money off of peace compassion and tolerance or understanding....turmoil,hate and division is where the money is at.
The backing here is by Bill Walker and the Orchestra. The videos from this show receive occasional comments that basically say that the arrangements are too pop and not enough country. It's a legitimate criticism in my view, but I don't think it was forced on J. Cash. Johnny employed Bill Walker & crew for his weekly show (1969-1971) and for many specials and Christmas shows after that. It appears to be his choice.
What an awesome and moving song. Some of Kris Kristofferson's best work. Add Johnny Cash singing it, with his style, his emotion, his faith, and it's bound to touch your heart, across all boundaries! Thanks for sharing! - And if you are a Christian check out II Chronicles 7:14. There you find the answer to this song!
I usually post when a video reaches 100K. So what to say about this one? This performance, in Dec 1984, is well before Kris recorded it in July 1986. I assume that he was performing it in 1984 because Johnny knew it already. It was released in October 86 on the Repossessed album and as a single in Feb 1987. The single reached #60 on the country charts, I think. I believe the song evolved over this time period, so, if you heard him live, you may notice differences in the lyrics between the live and recorded versions.
I cant believe Johnny put up with that Lawrence Welk Muzak they trashed his music in the background. I think they were constantly trying to soften his edge.
Mostly Brenda That doesn’t make sense. Kris already wrote the lyrics which included the Kennedys. Anyway, it’s a great song. Perhaps Johnny Cash didn’t want to mention politicians. But my God they killed them.
Jim Morrison, I agree. I have heard this song many, many times and the Kennedy’s are always included in it. They fit perfectly in the song, just as MLK does. I think Johnny left them out for some reason.

Johnny Cash had a real social conscience!

On the road to glory
Where the story never ends
First saw Cash Dec. 1974 in Jamaica. Then later on in Miami. Great super guy. But never him doing this song.

Also politics. Hate is the basis of many an election campaign.
@sackett68 - You hit the problem right on the head. That's the state our Country is in today. Great Post!
Only for evil minded pieces of crap. Good men prosper during peace.

bob dylan sang this song on one of bobs albums around 1985 or 1986.
It's on "Knocked Out Loaded" (1986). One of his least known albums and he didn't play the songs in concert very often.
was this a johnny cash christmas special? or what was the name of the program this was on?
Floyd 'Red Crow' Westerman covered that song. He did a good job on it.
Yes, he added a verse about Crazy Horse and native Americans in his version.
@MostlyBrenda Many years ago I knew Red Crow. He was a very interesting and intelligent guy . Albeit controversial.
SEED AND FREEDOM....
´´ELES´´ CONTINUAM MATANDO. ATE QUANDO?
That shame on you look is priceless.
That song was originally a native song that also mentioned Crazy Horse as well
No, it's not. Floyd Red Crow Westerman added lyrics about native Americans in his version.
@@MostlyBrenda thanks Brenda my mistake
@@albertpierreroy4664 Kris also added a verse about the Kennedys when he recorded it. So there are several versions.
Correction...Floyd Red Crow Westerman...acoustic version of this song...
There a sweet mann and here wife
I cant believe Johnny put up with that Lawrence Welk Muzak they trashed his music in the background. I think they were constantly trying to soften his edge.
Why did he drop the Kennedys from this song?
As we posted before, Johnny is singing this a year and half before Kris recorded. Who knows what the lyrics were at that point in time?
Mostly Brenda
That doesn’t make sense.
I think Johnny left them out for some reason.
here
Johnny Cash was friends with Al Gore. He did one of the eulogies at JC's funeral.
Te original refers to "the Brothers Kennedy). Did they take it out or did I miss it?
I think this was done (12/84) before Kris even recorded the original recording.
I think Kris added the reference to the Kennedys later.
Theres a price you pay for the cost of everything to everyone
.....The Man in black....
Really a big " human bein' " !

I musr say that as a singer Kris Kristoffersen is a great song writer... it's a pity about his singing.
No auto-tune, no teleprompter, not even a mic. What has music come to today?
PS. See The One on the Right is on the Left for information on Johnny Cash' politics.
And then Johnny Walked...........
You may also want to hear Johnny singing "Six White Horses" to revise that claim.
That song was by his brother...great song.
yes this is gorgeous. f the satanists.. they will soon be gone and forgotten
no politics ever made my lose sleep at night...
He didn't sing Brothers Kennedy at the end like Kris did.
Keep in mind that Johnny is singing this in Dec 84. Kris did not release the Official version until 1986.
They always kill the good ones.
