*Check out the aftermath of us buying the cheapest FRS* 👉 ruclips.net/video/mOc8jDz7N0w/видео.html Have you ever wanted a 86? Or do you own one? Would you buy one again? Let us know your thoughts!
As a BRZ owner. The only complaints that I do have is the fact that it has a tiny fuel tank, it requires premium fuel, it’s not fast in straight line speed, and I wouldn’t recommend it for 12 hour road trips! Trust me on the that one! Driving from Central California to Idaho definitely isn’t for the faint of heart! Haha
I "ordered" a 2024 BRZ Limited which has 18" improved tires, slightly more HP and improved torque. I am so looking forward to getting it ! It's the first car I wanted more than needed! A bit of retirement present to myself :)
Congrats I did same getting a 22 BRZ. I have to exercise to get in & out but so worth it. Amazing car. Remove thick particulate filter & gain 10-15 hp. 😉
Bought mine at 30k miles for 20k, its now at 118k miles just barely changed coil packs and injectors like last week. Its drifted regularly and redlined every single drive. Ive gone through 1 clutch and taught 3 ppl to drive manual in it aswell as learning to drift. Its now widebody fbo ethanol tuned (really wakes the car up) and gutted. Solid car so far suprized it hasnt blown yet ive tried 😂
I drive our 2018 brz manual just about daily to work. Yet it's only got 19000 miles. I love driving the small two door. I've had a mustang and a challenger. All different rides. The brz's weight and road manners are fine for me. I also enjoy that it's paid off and in 6 years of ownership.... zero maintenance other than tires and a battery
What do I hate about the FRS? Boxer engine. That's right, I said it. Work on it, you'll see why. What do I love about the FRS? RWD. Its also pretty basic, which is nice. No giant iPad dash here. All in all, it could be worse. It could be an RX-8. Looking forward to those upgrades and track days. Cheers.
im not a modder guy.. i would buy this n drive it as a daily easily.. as it is waaaaay more practical than my previous car.. i use to daily a toyota MR-S (spyder for u US folks)
Audiophile here: You can't "fix" the sound system in any BRZ/FRS/GT86/GB86 with a new sound system. Its only about 10% of the problem. The main 90% is just unavoidable light weight sports car problems. Thin sheet metal vibrates like crazy, amplifying the sound of tire and wind noises in the car and allowing bass to escape the car. The best fix is to add small patches of sound deadening in key areas such as inside the doors, roof, floor, transmission tunnel and wheel wells(from the inside). This can make even the cheapest sound systems sound like studio quality. These cars don't have bad speakers, just bad acoustics. BUT, that would add a out 100lbs to the car which would be undesirable to most people.
You guys are lucky to have these types of cars in your country. In my country only rich can have those because they're way too expensive here and we cannot even buy a used car here they're too expensive as hell.Due to heavy taxes 😢 So always be happy for what you have.👍🏻
some things u forgot to mention abt this car are the fact it has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution and weights less than a porsche 911 gt3rs, so with tuned suspension, camber, and a good set of tires u can out corner a porshe
Did a long road trip from NC to the west end of TX. Blew a transmission solenoid, replaced. My headlight took a nice hit and broke on the highway. Fun times. So far I still have mine being the OP for 9 years with a turbocharger. Never selling mine or trading.
24 BRZ here. They are reasonably practical for one person or two people but it’s not a people mover. It’s okay off the line but magic when it’s moving, steering, braking and accelerating in its power range. It is a beautiful car to look at and has lots of great safety features and a great interior.
I couldn't get one because #1, my Camry XLE v6 is soo comfortable and i've really fallen in love with big Toyota motors. 46,000 miles on her and 5. Somethin 0-60 times AND on 87 octane.. and 30mpg highway in the real world. #2 its a Subaru boxer motor, I simply dont trust a motor that runs sideways.. I cant help but think about gravity-fed oil starvation on the top side of the pistons from the boxer configuration . #3 you will only gain 7-10whp after a $1000 catback, air filter and headers since its already strung to the limit from the factory.
You guys are still bringing up the ONE guy that had an oil starvation issue in 2 years of the car being taken to track by every other owner with no issues? Ok.
I have a 16 Scion with only 53k, and I absolutely love it! Modifying is easy as hell, with some sick rims, to custom painting the trim, installing a fiber optic headliner, or installing a custom exhaust to engine mods with an array of aftermarket manufacturers it's just simple. I take it to car shows and the old timers love it too!😁
I've had my 2014 FRS for 6 years, drive it year round in MI. I don't have any mods other than a lightweight Borla axle-back, and I don't drive it too hard. Never had any reliability issues; only a brake change and my u-joints on the drive shaft seem to be going out (50k miles). Cargo room can hold two full TSA approved suitcases and a bunch of other small suitcases with the seats folded down. I get 32MPG average with highway touring tires and stock wheels. 6:20 There is supposed to be a piece of cloth that holds the seat belt to the seat there. 6:45 I have the stock touchscreen navigation 11:25 that air filter isn't installed correctly My only complaint is that it's frustratingly slow and that I have to pay $4.50/gal for premium (it's $3.50-$3.70/gal for reg in SE MI)
Thing about the fuel pump chirp is that probably it isn't mounted straight to the head, and the high pressure fuel lines are long and do not have enough supporting points, seen that on other cars. But it really doesn't affects operation
I drive a vb WRX currently. I live in Canada and it checked just enough of the practicality boxes to make it my daily driver. In the future I plan to get my hands on a BRZ/86 and make it my project car. Being an air maintenance engineer, I'll probably go the all motor route and upgrade the internals.
I honestly like the 86’s and you didn’t do half bad with this one. My only gripe with Toyota and Subaru for these cars (and why I never bought one) is the same complaint that most gear heads have. They have a perfectly awesome STI engine readily available that would turn these cars into absolute screamers, but nope. 200hp it is. 👎🏻
My 2013 scion frs. Sparco rims p225/40r18. Flowmaster delta force cold air intake. New oil pan. New factory oe front exhaust with catalytic convertor. Spec -d tuning exhaust. Ecu performance tune. I had the headers removed. The car was extremely loud. Couldn't hear my radio and my wife couldn't stand it. Frs has great gas mileage. From myrtle beach to Maryland on one tank of gas. I had no torque dip my scion frs was a daily driver.
Once you go wide and sticky you lose that ability to slide easily, easily with only 200hp stock. I'm FBO with coilovers and the works and have 255 200tw tires and while I can fly around turns at supercar speeds I am literally unable to slide my car around since it just doesn't make the power to do so. Rear seats aren't to fool insurance companies. They don't just look at it and say gosh darn it you got us, it is must not be a sports car due to the rear seats. Or that it is any less dangerous. They figure out everywhere possible to squeeze the most money from you. The rear seats are simply there to make the car a bit more practical everyday. You can fit people you hate back there, use it for extra storage, and you can also fold the backseats down for even more room. And its predecessor (AE86) had them.
Funny, we owned (new) a 1990 Subaru Loyale Wagon (MT) and later, a 1993 Legacy (AT); BOTH had oil starvation problems in turns (and nothing sporting) which lead both to have new oil pans (with baffles) to be installed under recalls
400,000 recalls, 12 hour laborious job. What is Subaru’s issue 💀 I always hear about reliability issues with their engines. ALSO, why did Toyota choose SUBARU of all brands to make their engine. Toyota is supposed to be reliable and all about longevity. I get it was a financial/business move to obtain a share of the company but man it would’ve been nice for the engine to be a real, reliable, Toyota. I would still buy one 😏
@@iiarskii Ahh I see, I’ve heard their reliability has gotten better recently. I guess it’s all in how the owner treats it but it can’t take a beating like a Toyota or Honda. But I have to say Subarus are pretty neat since they are standard with AWD
Insurance isn't cheaper due to having a back seat. Insurance companies aren’t stupid. The actuarily assess the risk of the driver and area in which the driver lives against the cost of repairs and or replacement in the event of a total loss. They take down your vehicle’s VIN to know what trim level and or other features your car has from the factory. A two + 2 sports car is not going to be in the same class as a family sedan😂
owning a 2017 Yellow Series.. it's great.. but eats up tires like crazyand YEAH the fuel tank IS SMALL but if I had to mod the car... big fuel cell in the trunk and tadaaaaaaa who needs a trunk in a sports car anywayy
Have a 2013 model. Trouble free motoring on a budget compared to many other cars out there. Wheels are the worst feature of the car, but an 18 fixes that.
Now it's the time to buy these cars. A car guy told me this is the new gen 240sx. Once it gets older and they stop making this platform it's gonna be expensive cause you know(drift tax)
Comempltely bias and disagree. Fiel efficiency is great, its a go kart with lots of fun. Tonnnns of storage once u put the rear seats down. Torq dip is easily fixable as soon as tuning and header is done
You want a car thats OVER built. A car with room to grow. To me, that means a naturally aspirated v6 or v8, with an engine that can handle boost out of the box. With these you have to start with an engine swap, then boost it, plus reinforcing everything else in the car, cuz it was never meant to have actual power. 4 cyl's are a no-go for me.
I have a 2020 trd 86 ive owned for 4 years, and it's been fully moded and supercharged for over a year with no issues. Just dont skip your maintenance and dont be a cheap bitch on after market parts and its a great car.
Why do you believe that Toybaru put a 12.5:1 compression engine with double injection? To run it with 91/93 octane.? If you are near an E85 pump, fill it up and put in a new tune and adjust the AFR. It won't be a Porsche GT3 but it will wake up the car.
The only 2 REAL complains I have with this car is that it takes premium gas and has mediocre fuel economy. People who complain about the power are missing the whole point of the car, and have many other options for power.
Lol, American fuel sucks. In Austria the minimum is 95 (=US 91), then for the same price 98 (=US 93.5), then 100 (US 95.5) and sometimes u can get 102 (US= 97.5)
I wanted one of these when i was 18... Bought a 08 acura tl instead.. Im glad i did not buy one 😂 honestly i regret selling the tl 😭 its the ONLY fwd car i would buy again.
I own a facelifted 2020 BRZ , love it! The engine is a weakspot of this car for sure , but all the rest of it is great. Even the intirior is decent in the 2020 BRZ with semi-digital dash and some soft matrials . Love it , love it , love it! I plan on getting a GR86/ 2nd gen BRZ in a year or so , or just modify mine , but it's a fantastic car.
RTV has no direct connection to oil starvation on the new gen. Yes there's a little that gets caught in the pickup screen, but it doesn't block the flow, and has nothing to do with blown engines. The cause is well established at this point and there are a few workarounds including products in development to fix it. Don't waste time on oil pan baffles as they can make the issue worse. Do some research, and you'll find that these guys are talking about theoretical stuff that's many months out of date (and not supported by people doing actual testing on tracks). Blown engines are from high rev, high g long right turns that get some oil caught in the upper/mid galleys of the engine, resulting in slow oil return, and air gets pulled up instead. That's it.
just dont buy a 2013, my intake valve spring just broke on the pass side and now toyota is paying for a nee head. Its nice i dont have to pay anything but im out of a car for a week plus
I owned one for a few days. When it rains it's an experience to drive and not a good one. There is no space inside for anything including Sun glasses. Fun for a kid but not a daily driver

Have you ever wanted a 86? Or do you own one? Would you buy one again?
Let us know your thoughts!
isn't the GR86 has a 2.4 l enigne? the GT86 had a 2 litre one the GR get bigger enigne.
Yeah, stop buying these cars! They suck SOOOO MUCH. (I want the prices to go down so I can buy one...)
Shhhhhhhh!!!!!!!Don't tell NOOBODDYYY 🤫🤫
Bro is this about the old GT86 or the new GR86 because the GR86 is a great car.
Brad and Trav are sure excited about this new project. It’ll be interesting to see the transformation.
No buy a toyota MR2 spyder instead. Has a better engine
I just want the motor for my 16 frs

@@advancedfleetmanagementtub3879 damn! That’s abysmally bad!
BRZ owner I need stretch break every 3 hours but no cramping. So long trips are doable and been in worse rides long distance.
So glad I went with a Golf GTI.
Regular gas works
Title is kinda misleading because many of the cons you described are 1st gen issues that were resolved/improved in the 2nd gens.
This channel is reqlly clickbaity
DEFINITELY DO NOT buy them (I want them to depreciate so I can buy one)
A lot of the issues are just the fact that this car is a cheap sports car. I wouldn't call them issues, more like style
I "ordered" a 2024 BRZ Limited which has 18" improved tires, slightly more HP and improved torque. I am so looking forward to getting it ! It's the first car I wanted more than needed! A bit of retirement present to myself :)

i have a 2022 BRZ Manual, very effortable, very slow but my god does it drive one of the best purchases i ever made
I have a 2022 manual and an 04 sti. I can't decide which is more fun to drive.
The platform is relatively solid, not bad looking, rwd, cheap and a manual. What could go wrong? Can’t wait to see! Haha
I have a GR86 and it´s wondeful, fantastic, exciting!!! The best sport car you can buy, thanks.
especially for the price
Bought mine at 30k miles for 20k, its now at 118k miles just barely changed coil packs and injectors like last week.

Me with my rocket bunny v1 frs 🧍♂️

You only need 1 reason to avoid the Toyobaru 86: the stupid flat-4 engine configuration.

What is Subaru’s issue 💀
I always hear about reliability issues with their engines.
It’s still fairly reliable lol
Yet ppl want to shit on Supra for being a reliable sports car
Insurance is crazy though.
You certainly need to get that boxer engine the exhaust system it deserves and make it sound a lot more like a wrx

The cigarette butt mark is from the button that used to hold the strap for the seatbelt.
So here’s the plan boys, we’re gonna rb swap it with a single spoolie boi, put it on air with a nice drag pack and a young dolph wrap

I got the 18inch rims on my GR86 Permium! I love them
Now it's the time to buy these cars. A car guy told me this is the new gen 240sx. Once it gets older and they stop making this platform it's gonna be expensive cause you know(drift tax)
Fix the cig spot with glue and those little Flusses from the black socks. And cut what stands over.
Comempltely bias and disagree. Fiel efficiency is great, its a go kart with lots of fun. Tonnnns of storage once u put the rear seats down. Torq dip is easily fixable as soon as tuning and header is done
The issue is that these engines are designed in an H. Not in line and of course not a V. So working on them kind of sucks.
Yeah it does
I never drove one but I want one I love how they look and how they're rwd
I love my FRS...small gas tank though
I feel, how you feel with this year of head cold and sinusitis issues.
Toyota should’ve put the last gen of Beams engine on it.
it’s just like working on a bmw, because it’s like the BMW 3 series of sports cars
You want a car thats OVER built. A car with room to grow. To me, that means a naturally aspirated v6 or v8, with an engine that can handle boost out of the box. Is the GR86/FRS/BRZ the Japanese Mustang? I never knew it was so "squirrely" .

That's it.
Miata any day over these

just dont buy a 2013, my intake valve spring just broke on the pass side and now toyota is paying for a nee head. Its nice i dont have to pay anything but im out of a car for a week plus
I owned one for a few days. When it rains it's an experience to drive and not a good one. There is no space inside for anything including Sun glasses. Fun for a kid but not a daily driver
lol ones I’m seeing in the car communities are 2jz swapped
