  • Theresa was extremely talented. She appeared with more stars from the Golden era than anyone else. Sadly there’s not much known about her.
    Film from the video:
    -Thunderbolt 1929
    -Baby face 1933
    -Jezebel 1938
    -Buck Benny rides again 1940
    -I walked with a zombie 1943

This lady played with the most famous actors and actors during that time . Love baby face with Barbara Stanwick.

She really challenged the stereotype she played a maid but not your typical buffoonish role and she was gorgeous she did a film with Marlene Dietrich where like in Babyface with Stanwyck she plays the role of a real friend on an equal level not just the maid she plays a con artist helping Dietrich with her schemes which of course shows intelligence I can't remember the name of the film but it came out in the late forties

The name of the movie is the Flame of New Orleans with Marlene Dietrich Theresa Harris plays a maid that is pretty witty without being buffoonish one of the best roles I've seen a black actress have during that time period a must see film for her performance alone

I've seen many of her films on TCM and she also appeared in the 1947 classic, Miracle on 34th Street (uncreditied) with Maureen O'Hara and John Payne. She also appeared in the 1938 Bette Davis film, Jezebel. Her skin was darkened in that film as Davis' maid. As was a number of light skinned black actressess of that era. Including Freddie Washington, Edna Mae Harris and Nina Mae McKinney. ( I hope you do a bio on her as well.) This was standard procedure at the height of the Golden Age of Hollywood filmmaking whenever a fair skin Black actress appeared on screen. The aim was to make them appear more "negro" looking especially if they appeared too White. As was the case of Miss Harris, Edna Mae Harris and Nina Mae McKinney.

Yeah, I just saw her in Baby Face - such a breath of fresh air to see a genuine relationship between a white and black woman. Before the production code forced segregation on the movies as well as real life.
