As a little girl, my parents had a house in Bel Air. I remember it very clearly. It was very quiet and peaceful up there, and the homes were all beautiful! What I remember most as a little girl was the pretty gold faucets, the HUGE house, and the fact that the backyard was basically on a cliff. There was a fence that kept us from falling down into another person's backyard. This is where my Mom took us in her new Fairlane convertible to see our Aunt. In those days (1965) we were left in the car for just moments while she went for our Aunt. This was common then. My big brother jumped into the front seat, "played" like he was driving, hit the gearshift and we began to roll! We all jumped out of the car, as it proceeded to go through a backyard fence, over the cliff, and down into a man's swimming pool! My Dad had to pay BIG $$$ to lift the car out of the pool by crane, repair the pool and grounds, buy a new fence, and get my mom a new car! Needless to say, it is a family story we will never forget. It was a GREAT place to trick or treat! But, the house burnt down in one of California's fires and we had to move. This place holds precious memories and it should be saved in every sense from the wrecking ball...the "OLD" is most often much prettier and more stunning than anything "new", but sadly it is a bit of wisdom that is lost on the generations coming in now...by the time you realize its value...it is gone.

From my understanding, there isn’t a strict definition when it comes to Historical Landmarks. A place that holds historical significance can literally be a place Elizabeth Taylor was said to visit and is known in town for that. I am sure Taylor’s fame and historical significance within LA/Hollywood would be enough to make that area worth consideration. Hopefully her estate and family can work it out.
Absolutely lovely home and not pretentious but calming… I am sure that they will destroy it and build something garish and gaudy… sad to see the lack of respect for the past…
Thanks. Seeing inside of Elizabeth's home. Was awesome!! I think it needs to be bought by A big film studio. They can charge tours an retrieve their money back!! I believe it does need to stay. . ❤ u Liz! Rip
Elizabeth Taylor's Bel Aire home should definitely should be saved and preserved. The homes up there are gracious and beautiful. What they are building today is nothing but monstrous junk. Just look at Oprah Winfrey's home. When she first purchased that home, I envied her no end. It was refined, elegant, and simply gorgeous. Then, for some reason, she remodeled and expanded it. Now it's a dog-awful monstrosity you couldn't give me for free. Why she destroyed that beautiful mansion instead of building her current mess elsewhere, preserving that gem, is anybody's guess. I get angry every time I think about it.
14:47 *Note the huge bottle of her signature fragrance. Although receiving no business accolades in this almost cartoonishly praiseworthy vid, Elizabeth was a shrewd and wildly successful entrepreneur. She leveraged her fame into a perfumery juggernaut. The "White Diamonds" line has notched over **_$1 billion_** in total sales since its creation by Taylor.*
@@optitom9033 Right? (A friend and I always kid one another; removing imaginary diamond earrings while invoking her famous tagline: _"These_ have always brought me luck!") She was pure _legend!_
It truly was a beautiful home decorated and landscaped with classic taste. It could have been saved if she had made plans with a land trust but with a use having to be decided upon. I can see why it was a sanctuary for her.
Incredible home of an incredible actress that brought joy to millions upon millions for many many generations. Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most beautiful women in the world.Elizabeth Taylor was also an icon incredible actress. I truly loved her like the entire world. The latest owner wants to demolish this beautiful home to build a fancy box house. For me it hurts me personally because in 1982 I was awarded a contract to do all concrete construction on a new home next door to Elizabeth Taylor’s home. The address next to Elizabeth was at 688 Nimes Rd. This was had 10,000 square feet. Tennis court at east side. It had a guest house at south end. The swimming pool was in middle of a very large yard. It had incredible gate at front entrance and the same type of gate at south end. The property was 5 acres. You could drive a car from front gate down to lower level and pass under the tennis court to exit the south gate. The project took 2 years to build. There were approximately 40 containers shipped from Europe. Thank you all.
There are Mansions...there are "Houses" but Ms Taylors was in every way a "Home". It was quite obvious that she loved living there and it is a testament to her in every way. It is so sad to see this beautiful HOME demolished for some stark, "expansive" modern crap! It seems that this generation has absolutely NO respect for the past in any way. May this lovely woman RIP!
Why do these people want to destroy historic homes that’s old Hollywood history. It’s a beautiful place and I love the gardens and the plants and flowers are awesome I can imagine the scent The new owner should get a clue. Go build on an empty lot and start from scratch. Don’t tear it down.
I live in Beverly Hills "Flats" , Roxbury. This happens more than you think. You mentioned "gates" ? That really didn't begin until the tragic event of Sharon Tate.
I have a post card collection of movie star homes dating back to the silent film era to the 1960s. You would be shocked at how modest the homes were in 1920s and 1930s. What they considered luxury back then. They were elegant, but they were not outrageously humongous homes. Today you have these obnoxious MOD, dull, glass and metal cookie cutter boxes totally void of any life such as art, sculpture, antiques, or any culture. The younger generations are completely delusional thinking they are the envy of everyone living in these dwellings of nothingness. I think what a major factor is the total extinction of individualism. Self-expression is totally gone. They have become so common in their own way. Its infuriating that that they want to demolish Elizabeth Talyor's estate. I think they are going out of their way purposely to destroy Hollywood history to aggravate people because they are arrogant and ornery. Also, the younger generations HATE history and want to wipe it off the face of the earth anyway they can.
My cousin bought the Firestone Estate next to President Ford and wife Betty and one of the suites by the pool was decorated for Elizabeth Taylor and that was the one part of this amazing home Patrick didn't update and i spent a weekend visiting and had the pleasure of sleeping in Elizabeth's bed.
It’s a shame her children were not interested in the mansion and instead it was sold shortly after she died. I can’t believe it’s being demolished. Wouldn’t her name add prestige to the property and make it more valuable?
Hollywood need to step in to take care of it and have someone that's willing to maintain it. Not as a museum but the carry on and maybe some other family would be willing to move into it and live and live their life just like Elizabeth Taylor did.
I absolutely love her home and am sad to hear of this. I think it and the gardens were exquisite. It is clearly a real home and not a soulless, modern mansion.
@@steellio5526 Bravo to the owner. If this is true they did the right thing and hopefully that home brings them luck, happiness, and tax breaks. History matters, even in LA. Beautiful historic towns in LA and the west.
This is a tragedy. Please save these Hollywood icons homes. Waste not want not. The tourist go to Hollywood to see the old stars homes. Miss Taylor was an icon.
We have lost too many homes in this state. Demolishing a home should have a very good reason not just because the land is worth more than the home. We don't have time for this BS.
Obviously it's the new owner's choice of what to do with his property. If he does decide to demolish it in order to put up another neutral glass box - just to sell and profit from it - it would be a terrible shame. People have little to no respect for the past, and especially a total lack of regard for the history of the estate. I'm sure he'll win out and the property will be a memory. Thank you for posting this video of Ms. Taylor's beautiful home at it's heyday.
The buyer had to know it would bring him press over such an egregious act of tearing down the Taylor home. No good or bad press, right? Save this home!!!
Given her glamorous and extravagant image, her home and garden - somewhat ironically - reflect a person of restrained and elegant taste. A sort of upmarket, suburban ranch-style. A quiet sanctuary from her very public life. Considering the value of this large parcel of land, I suppose it will be replaced by two or three undistinguished, modern monoliths.
Even if he builds a multi story house it will Not have history and details that were put into them by craft men. Now just cheep wood..panels plaster boards 😢😢😮😢😮😮
Memories of Elizabeth and 700 Nimes Road! I was fortunate to have a continuing correspondence with Dame Elizabeth for many years until shortly before her passing. Trying to obtain information after her passing, I actually spoke with one of her assistants, who was grieving. As Rock Hudson once said, ELIZABETH LOVES PEOPLE. The beauty of her heart eclipsed her famous beauty and jewelry 💖! RIP dearest Dame Elizabeth 💜 💖 🕊 🕊
I think the buyer bought it on purpose to create a stir by saying it would be torn down-- then sell at twice the amount he paid. The home IS a home, not some garish cavernous maze.
Please leave the home intact. Also, there’s a goof up: the Nancy Sinatra pic is of Nancy Sinatra, the daughter not the ex-wife who’s home it originally was.
Unfortunately in Los Angeles ,everything is about greed ,no respect for history at all,I thought the property will stay with in the family, very much surprised it was sold that quickly after her death ,what ever we think the developer would do what he wants to do ,it’s a beautiful place that should stay like it is !
Los Angeles needs to step in. The city as well a Beverly Hills is just allowing to much history to be lost to gigantic boxy non architectural shoe boxes with now warmth or adornments.
These homes were always vulgar , and nothing changes , never had class , perhaps in my grandmothers day . we had simply appointed homes , never considered the vulgar word and much over used now , Mansion , Mansion , Mansion, . miss Taylor would never call her home a Mansion. It was her home and very English. Unfortunately it will be completely destroyed.
The house should not be razed and the grounds should remain as designed for Elizabeth Taylor.. These types of mansions should remain intact as a testament to that iconic era. Colorado razed the mansions of the gold and silver barons and lived to regret it. Do not make the same mistake.
@@grant1088 Perhaps they had no other choice, the yearly taxes on such an estate would be prohibitive and a yearly burden since the bulk of Miss Taylor's estate was left to charity.
They likely could not keep it as instructed in her revocable living trust. All assets were to be combined, and then the executor apportioned it to the beneficiaries, thought to be her children, grandchildren, and charities.
@@mairim4578 To add to that, the trust was private, however we did learn that Taylor bequeathed a large amount to her former husband Larry Fortensky. This was above the monies he received in the divorce settlement. They spoke on the phone before she went into the hospital before her death. And many people have shared the thoughtful gifts she gave them such as Debbie Reynolds who received a a sapphire necklace, bracelet, and earrings set. So, Elizabeth Taylor was thoughtful and generous to the end.
The Elizabeth Taylor name, and the fact that "Elizabeth Taylor slept here for decades", has GOT to be a selling point like few other properties can claim! Tear it down and rebuild an ostentatious ego-fluffer and the value of the Elizabeth Taylor name is removed. Doesn't sound like a good investment to me!!!
Save Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic house. Should be a landmark and perhaps mini museum. People would be very interested and to pay to maintain the property. ❤❤❤
It was recently bought for $11 million by legendary real estate developer Ardie Tavangarian in an off-market deal. Tavangarian is famous for his huge real estate projects, recently selling a custom estate for $75 million in Bel Air and another for $83 million in the Pacific Palisades. He also bought four Bel Air houses from Elon Musk for $62.5 million last year. We can only speculate on Tavangarian’s plans for Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic home. He will likely use the 1.27 acres to expand her “modest” 7,000-square-foot house into something worth selling for a price closer to his comfort zone: $50 million+. The house will be upgraded to fit in with the spectacular neighbouring homes in Bel Air. Fans of Elizabeth Taylor and preservationists are upset to learn that the house will be torn down to build a new behemoth. People often buy a Hollywood legend’s home to preserve it.🏡
Part of the value and charm is the history and former home of a beloved star is much more valuable and resale value than another Mc Mansion cookie cutter that’s worth is just the land it should be preserved as historic Hollywood
I don't find it unusual that an older property would be demolished. Home styles change and what people want from their home change in terms of style. Also, while the public does not know the condition of this home all homes require upkeep and maintenance so what was happening in that area is unknown as well. I just don't think that someone wanting to knock down an old home is a shock.

Absolutely lovely home and not pretentious but calming… I am sure that they will destroy it and build something garish and gaudy… sad to see the lack of respect for the past…
I agree that the home should be preserved. Btw, the voiceover that sounds like Richard Burton’s voice is a nice touch 😉.
Los Angeles needs to step in & stop American History from being destroyed by greedy & unscrupulous developers.
SUGGESTION: HOLLYWOOD HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMISSION!!!!
Thanks. Seeing inside of Elizabeth's home. Was awesome!! I think it needs to be bought by A big film studio. They can charge tours an retrieve their money back!! I believe it does need to stay. . ❤ u Liz! Rip
Keep the house, PLEASE!
Elizabeth was lovely. Don't
ruin the memory of both!
Of course Ms. Taylor's home should be preserved. She remains the 'real deal'... true Hollywood "Royalty". An Honest to Goodness Legend.
It needs to be saved. Could be Elizabeth Taylors museum.
My mom's favorite scent
@@optitom9033 Right? (A friend and I always kid one another; removing imaginary diamond earrings while invoking her famous tagline: _"These_ have always brought me luck!") She was pure _legend!_
White Diamonds my mothers favorite perfume Still have empty new and used bottles of it😂❤😅
It truly was a beautiful home decorated and landscaped with classic taste. It could have been saved if she had made plans with a land trust but with a use having to be decided upon. I can see why it was a sanctuary for her.
Look at what the envious creeps did to magnificent Pickfair!
Afaik, they never lived there.
Let him go elsewhere to buy some land and build the house he wants. This house is gorgeous and should not be touched just protected.
Hollywood need to step in to take care of it and have someone that's willing to maintain it. Not as a museum but the carry on and maybe some other family would be willing to move into it and live and live their life just like Elizabeth Taylor did.
Save Elizabeth Taylor's Home a monumental figure of Hollywood a home Monument to remind her of her illustrious past a foundation of Hollywood history
This iconic property should be preserved and placed in the Historic Homes register.
I absolutely love her home and am sad to hear of this. I think it and the gardens were exquisite. It is clearly a real home and not a soulless, modern mansion.
Stop 🛑 destroying Elizabeth’s home and Marilyn’s home 🎭
I read somewhere that Marilyn's home is now safe from demolition. I hope it's true.
@@vivianzickerman302 well said, Donna Summers place too. Waste not want not. These women are legendary
KEEP THE SANCTUARY !
ASK THE CITY, THE CHILDREN AND THE HEIRS TO CONTRIBUTE !
A MUSEUM WOULD BE WORTHWHILE !
We have lost too many homes in this state. Demolishing a home should have a very good reason not just because the land is worth more than the home. We don't have time for this BS.
The home should be kept. It is a beautiful home as is and should be worth a great sale price. Leave it as it is.
Save this home!!!
dont let it be torn down
Please save it😅
The historical group should purchase it and but it on the tourist list, for people and charge them to go through like a museum..
TOTALLY AWSOME!!!! A RETRO 80S INTERIOR!!!
Please leave the home intact. Also, there’s a goof up: the Nancy Sinatra pic is of Nancy Sinatra, the daughter not the ex-wife who’s home it originally was.
Hmmmmm. I think she was an iconic American. That´s why what is left should be valued as a cultural part of the city, like an old castle.
She was British,
ELIZABETH'S Bel Air home should be declared a landmark and preserved.
I agree
💯 💯 💯 Exactly
Her home should be saved at all costs.
The house should not be razed and the grounds should remain as designed for Elizabeth Taylor.. These types of mansions should remain intact as a testament to that iconic era. Colorado razed the mansions of the gold and silver barons and lived to regret it. Do not make the same mistake.
They also demolished Rudolph Valentino's elegant mansion, among others. Such a shame.
Yes we covered that as well :(
If not preserved it will be a Hollywood historic crime of epic proportion and the culprit condemned or the owners conversion revered 🎯
SUGGESTION: ELIZABETH TAYLOR MUSEUM.
I don't think it's an old enough house or have enough historical architectural features to qualify.
Los Angeles should step in
You're advocating more government regulation and control, when we have way too much already.
SUGGESTION: TIME FOR THE CITY OF LAS ANGELES TO STEP IN AND PRESERVE HISTORY AGAIN. FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
Its almost un American to do this in Hollywood. These stars were the first, this is sad.
Agree 👍 history matters even in LA
I don't think it should be demolished. I think it should be left as is.
What a shame her children sold the house.
Your right they should of kept it in family . 2:24
@@jstokes thank you.
10:21 : LOVE the balloon curtains! Kim
With her being an advocate tor awareness is what showed she was human.
they are demolding all of old Hollowood homes very sad
To build taste less crap😢😢😮
I think it's a shame you would desire to destroy a home once belonging to a Hollywood Icon
This house and garden, looks so relaxing and beautiful.
DO NOT DESTROY!
Save Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic house. Should be a landmark and perhaps mini museum. People would be very interested and to pay to maintain the property. ❤❤❤
Every "Humble Abode" has a Renoir or two in it.
Please stop destroying these celebrities homes.
People often buy a Hollywood legend’s home to preserve it.🏡
It should be preserved
Thanks
Such a shame no respect for history
When you find out what Hollywood really was and is it won’t bother you a bit to see it demolished!
How sad this home Was beautiful and timeless for 2024 😢
Gréât documentaire & nice voice 👌
Part of the value and charm is the history and former home of a beloved star is much more valuable and resale value than another Mc Mansion cookie cutter that’s worth is just the land it should be preserved as historic Hollywood
Why do some people think new is always better! So very tragic if they bulldoze that beauty property 😢
Should Not Be Demolish. We Destroy So Much And Can't Be Replaced. Destroy Our Pass And We Also Destroy Our Future.
This is so sad. And people wonder why I'm so anti corporate period well this is one of the reasons
