  • Our passion for nutritious food includes the resident pup! Here's his journey of health, how amazing he is doing on our homemade dog food and how we make it for incredibly cheap, using mostly scraps, that make it extra nutritious. So much better than kibble and WAY cheaper than high-end store bought options. And bonus is, it's super flexible for what you have available and shelf stable so you don't have to make it all the time!

We are an American family living permanently in Ecuador, transforming a mostly-untouched 30 acres of jungle mountain into a working, self-sustainable, off-grid farm. There are a lot of trials, errors, successes, and lessons to be learned along the way. We hope to share it all with you, to tell our story, to inspire, and to hopefully help answer the questions you didn’t know to ask.

One of the best dogs I've ever had the privilege of sharing my life with was named Toby 🥰. I'm in the USA, so I have access to SO MUCH "high quality" dog food, but I started making my own dog food at the beginning of this year. It's amazing how much less my dogs drink now that they're not eating dehydrated kibble! Tonight they had chicken hearts, gizzards and livers with sweet potatoes and mixed vegetables. I got some chicken breast on sale, so they're having that for the rest of the week. I buy whatever meat is on sale, cook it and freeze it. I'd love to be able to can my own dog food, but it sounds complicated and I'm afraid I'll do something wrong and give my pups food poisoning 😳. One of my dogs' favorites is raw chicken feet...claws and all! I hate the sound of the bones crunching, but the poodles love them 🤷‍♀️. I got a big package of chicken feet at the grocery store for about $3. Dehydrated chicken feet are $2 EACH at my local pet supply store. I add a vitamin supplement in case I'm doing something wrong, but I'm pretty sure my dogs would be fine without it. Like you mentioned, I no longer have to scoop dog poop. It just disappears. I didn't think about bugs eating it. I thought it was breaking down quickly because it wasn't full of a bunch of weird preservatives 😂.

Nice story and interesting to know about one of the family members (Toby), I wish the best for such a wonderful family. I live in the city and I always questioned if the dog food sold in supermarkets is really healthy. I can't lie because I regularly buy it, but Molly (my dog) also eats other things (vegetables, meat, rice, bread, etc...) She is currently 12 years old.

Toby! What a cutie ❤. The only reason why we don't have a dog here (Canada) is the exact same reason. I don't trust any commercial food for humans or animals we don't eat lots of meat ourselves, store stuff is total poison ☠️ and it's not easy to find local organic meats in our area. Oh I recognized the tattlers lids lol just don't trust them for canning beans, sometimes they unsealed because of gas (even though I still soak them overnight before canning.

Thats what i was wondering why my chickens and birds wouldn't eat it but would eat dead birds or any little mouse they could catch. Have alot of birds in area.

Glad you don't put corn in, round up in so much of it.
