Mixed Filipinos are loved and even adored in the Philippines. Learning the Filipino language will definitely be a plus and that is something you can easily learn if you stay here. While you are trying to learn the language, you can get by with English. Just try to learn the language slowly but surely. The "worst" thing that can happen to you is you get privileges for being mixed. Racism will no longer be a part of your vocabulary :) You will feel that love the moment you get here specially when they learn you are half Filipino. Love your vids.

Being a mutt and the son of mutts, I have always had difficulty describing my ethnic heritage succinctly. There is also the issue of the British burning down the church where the marriage and baptismal records for one line of our ancestry were kept. To add to the confusion, we have some royal lines, making our heritage more family-based than nation-based, as well as rooted in duty and service: impoverished aristocracy with a heavy dose of noblesse oblige. I was born with a tight row of curls on the back of my head and my base skin color is green.

You’re both very *unique* considering your experienced life history and places you’ve lived. This will be an advantage in life!
I still don’t understand how being a little bit dark skinned is often looked at in a negative way; very bizarre!

Interesting personal experience view points. Almost forgot that Spain colonised Philippine for over 300 years and the USA for another 50 years??!

Hola hija! As a rule, do as Filipinos do. First and foremost say, MANO PO to older relatives, especially your Lola's (grandma's) and Lolo's (grandpa's). Do not forget!

Many kudos for the frank and eminently civilized exploration of the very hypocritical, savage constructs of Race (ism) and their Discontents. Your segment resonated deeply. For, I am of a Northern English father and Latinx mother. In the antiquity of the mid-to- late twentieth century, my brothers and I came of age fielding those questions, "Ourrre yew Mexicain? Eyeranian? French? Argie? Paki? Ehhhh-rab...etc., ad-nauseum." And then our good fellow classmates designated le moi and siblings with the "N" word, "Paki," and other such bon mots that makes Brexit little England ever so proud.
in America, the denizens of the land of the "free and brave" designated le moi and siblings with such charmers as, ""Sp*c," "Beaner," "South of the Border," all of White America's equivalents of the "N" word for the great American tradition of dehumanizing people of Latin-American heritage (or Latin European, such as Southern French, Southern Italian, Southern Spanish, etc.). I mean, why not? White America pulled a Lebensraum on Mexico and conquered and plundered the entire West from a fledgling independent Mexico, so why not strip the Mexicans of their land, their rights, their language, and their humanity in such Anglo-Saxon cities as "San Francisco," "Los Angeles," "San Jose," "El Paso..."
    Oh. Wait.
My fave White American slur remains, "Wetback," as that would acknowledge, in some psychotropic way, or perhaps "psycho" is the operative modifying adjective, the superhuman-level swimming skills required of a Northern English future father, entering the chilly Atlantic from Bristol in the South to swim to the States, and my mother swimming the less impressive, great deal warmer, but still formidable Gulf of Yucatan to, you know, meet, marry, and go back to the UK with darkie kids with a penchant for Welsh cakes and Roast Beast and Yorkshire pud: "Wetback!"
Those White Americans: so witty, such belle esprits...

@@rsu1367 : To what and whom do you aim your attempted riposte? Surely you do not claim that the systematic savagery of White racism -- which inflicted the Atlantic Slave Passage and the Holocaust among so many other ineffable, inconceivable horrors -- somehow has a "both ways" epic, five-hundred-years criminality on the part of White racism's targeted victims.
OR are you insinuating that light-skinned people of colour and darker-complexioned people of colour are mutually "guilty" of cruelty to each other?
But even here, the true culprit is systematic White racism -- and the millions of Whites who benefit personally, economically, politically, socially, culturally, psychologically, even spiritually from this evil construct that SYSTEMATICALLY, STRUCTURALLY, LEGALLY, ECONOMICALLY places Whiteness above all else in every possible realm of being and action. In this reality, the targets of said racism, i.e., ALL people of colour, irrespective of their relative lightness or darkness of hue, are neither logically nor putatively anywhere near the true culprits and beneficiaries of White racism and "colourism." Whites invented "colourism." And whatever advantage lighter-skinned people of colour might enjoy, it is NEVER permanent, it is NEVER non-negotiable, it is NEVER immune or separate from WHITE domination and decision. Simply put, a Twandie Newton might have gotten roles due to her light complexion and British upbringing (that she is an incredibly talented actor NEVER mattered ),but it was always WHITE producers, directors, lawyers, bankers, casting agents who decided when and if she got any roles, what those roles entailed, and when and why Newton would no longer win roles, command any attention, even have a marriage.
The true victimizer, colonizer, plunderer, exploiter, divider is BOTH the complicit, willfully "innocent" (i.e., consciously ignorant) White individual AND the racist White power structure writ large, the system established by and upheld by WHITES to benefit in all things THEMSELVES at the literal expense of everybody else.
[Full disclosure: I am a late Boomer-aged Northern English-Latinx biracial. I have taken my degrees at Columbia University, with specializations in nation/race identity construction, the Right-wing and its ultimate expression, Fascisms; and the construction of Whiteness and White supremacy as the defining political, economic, cultural, religious ordering principle in European society dating back to the Germanic invasions of the Roman Empire (a Latin-Celto -dominated, multiracial world), which unleashed the Medieval Era, aka " Dark Ages"]
