    Great choices, I've made the day dress, but have just ordered the Indigo,as I felt like I was the only person who hadn't made one... And think the oversized nature had put me off, but adding the waist ties will sort out that issue, but the Darling Ranges pattern looks great, another one to add to the list 😳😁. I love your fabric choices too... Especially the red double gauze and the ice cream day dress. Very useful inspo. Thanks for the video. 👍🏼👌🏼

      Thank you for watching 😊 I hope you enjoy sewing the Indigo, I wasn’t sure about it initially but I really like it now. Hope you enjoy the darling ranges if you get that one too 😀👌

    I love making woven clothing for the same reasons. I know this sounds crazy but I love inserting zippers by hand. It looks beautiful and special. Additionally, wovens just look more sophisticated. Lovely makes!

      @Bonbon53539 3 года назад +1

      Collette Aileen Mattingly I do enjoy the hand sewing opportunities when making dresses. Now I’m intrigued. Do you hand sew zippers in such a way as to be invisible. Thanks!

    • @ColletteAileen
      @ColletteAileen 3 года назад

      @@Bonbon53539 I usually do a lapped installation which does hide the zipper. Though I do like the look of zippers especially shiny metal ones so those I'll leave exposed. Which I choose depends on the style of the garment. The stitch on the lapped zipper is intentionally visible on the exterior of the garment as little "dots" down the side of the zipper. I work to get the spacing on the stitches just right so they are a design feature. I learned this technique from Susan Khalje. It was a revelation.

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  3 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching, inserting zippers by hand sounds amazing, I think slow sewing and taking time over techniques and finishes can be so satisfying and so mindful too 😊

    Loved seeing all you versions of each pattern - I think you might like the Fancy Tiger Crafts Fen dress & top pattern - similar vibe to the dress patterns you showed and it’s a pattern with several variations. I’ve made it multiple times in all sorts of fabrics. Definitely one to size down if you prefer a more fitted silhouette - I make one size smaller than my measurements and it’s perfect. First of your vlogs I’ve seen - I feel a binge watch coming on!

    I really enjoyed hearing about your favourite woven dresses. They are all, lovely! I was very interested in the Day dress as about to make it. I have a pattern The cinema dress that I think you’d like. I haven’t made it as needs quite a lot of fabric so waiting to see something very reasonably priced to try it in. It looks lovely in double gauze and linen., also chambray. I also love your Myosotis dress which is a pattern I’d like. • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  3 года назад +1

      Thank you very much! I prefer a french seam for viscose and lighter weight viscose twills, as it’s so clean. Although for a heavier weight viscose twill I might overlock to avoid bulky seams. But for the viscose twill fabric I used for the indigo it was lighter weight and frayed a lot so I think french seam would be the best option. Thank you for watching 😊

    @elisekolic6649 3 года назад

    Hi Cath. A bit of a question for you. In your opinion will a soft rayon or viscose be suitable for the Darling ranges dress? I’m not sure how the buttons will hold up on the softer fabric. It seems most people have made the dress with a chambray, cotton or linen fabric. Thanks for your expert advice. 😊

    • @madebycathcraft
      @madebycathcraft  3 года назад +1

      Hi Elise. I haven't made a Darling Ranges in a viscose/rayon but I have seen a couple of versions made by others over on Instagram. I think lightweight interfacing on the button placket and using lightweight buttons would help to make it work, but I guess it would give a more drapey, softer look to the dress than with a more stable woven. It looks like viscose/rayon is one of the suggested fabrics by Megan Nielsen so it should work but I guess it would make it a more challenging sew than using a chambray/cotton/linen. Hope that helps! :-)
