I am so so happy I stumbled along to find your channel! I love, adore and really relate to your aesthetic and that in itself is fantastic. Many sewing vloggers seem to be super young and what looks good on them doesn't look good on me. Many of your makes are inspiring and I've found so many indie pattern makers through your channel. So grateful. But I also like listening to you even when the clothes aren't doing it for me. Last comment - I think the reason that hinterland dress isn't ideal is the fabric doesn't pop on you but nor is it looking like a super chic linen. SO I hope you'll try the same pattern in a different fabric or even a fabric combo to make it stand out.

I will try the hinterland again I think I need a more sophisticated fabric. I sometimes get an idea in my head and can’t let it go even when I know it’s not quite right. Also I really appreciate your comments about my channel your response is EXACTLY what I was hoping to accomplish when I started this 😁

I make the Hinterland sleeveless so I can wear it like a pinafore. I cut the bodice on the fold as I personally don't like button fronts on me. I've made it in fine cord and in cottons. Sometimes I put big patch pockets in the front or a contrast band along the bottom. I've never made it exactly like the pattern for some reason. I think it is the material that has to make that dress. In itself it has nothing to make it stand out in my opinion. It is useful for something loose, easy to just pull on and go.

I agree but I think your idea of a contrast band or patch pockets would make a big difference

Thank you for introducing us to ‘AuraGignard’ patterns. Want to purchase two patterns already. On a buying diet. It’s frugenlooks for the next while. I would remove the sleeves on the Hinterland dress and maybe add some panels to the sides. Gini, you don’t suit boring. Maybe TG it somehow. Thanks for sharing new pattern makers and resources.Let us buy you a Kofi. It would help with costs.

Thanks Deb! Yes the hinterland needs a little TG twist.
I’ll think about the kofi it’s very kind of you to suggest it. 🤗

Another great video, Gini! Thanks for your kind words, it was so fun to meet you in person 😍. You chose a great pattern to pair with the sweatshirt fleece, and I prefer a cowl that has some structure to it. Funny thing: I purchased the Japanese Rice Bag pattern a month or so ago, and am looking forward to making it. It will be a lovely knitting bag for small projects.👍 Good luck with your move! -Patty

Thanks Patty! I’d love to see a pic of your rice bag when you finish it. You’re right about it being a perfect project bag! Now I want to make one 😂

I just finished my second Style Arc Montana dress. First one I had to alter the bodice a bit; made in a batik. This one I made in rayon and I had to take bodice off skirt part, cut it apart (naturally bodice is lined), cut down from a 20 to a 16…. I could still drop to a 14! I think it needs bust darts to give a bit of shape. The dress is a little like yours excepts for sleeves. I’m not in love with it! Have you ever made this pattern?
I like you pink vest in background! The gray vest you are wearing… I’d like that dress length. That’s cute! I like the longer ruffles on other versions too.
Happy sewing and congratulations on your upcoming move!
    Cheryl

Hi Cheryl I have not made the Montana although I do have the pattern 😂 after reading your notes I’m not sure I’ll make it at all. Oh I love the idea of lengthening the vest to a tunic or dress length!
Well of course it’s lined if you have to take it apart 😂 😂 😂

Gini, I just want to say that even though my aesthetic is completely unlike yours, I absolutely LOVE your makes and seeing how you style your outfits. I am so inspired by various elements of the garments you make, and how you put them together with others. I really love that vest you are wearing. Also, I recently bought my first Japanese sewing book, Asuka Hamada's Big Clothes, Small Clothes and I am in LOVE. Utterly besotted. I think the Japants were just the taste I needed to get me started. Keep being awesome! :)

Thank you! Super makes, that 'boring' dress could be embellished? I love the vest, I noticed that Krista Larson often uses a very large, covered snap instead of a button? A tutorial on that would be fun! Your links are always fun!

All your makes shown today, except for the Hinterland look like "you". I think the Hinterland has no special feature to it to make it unique? i don't know but I agree, it's a fine dress but just not anything about it that sets it apart as special or unique. And why wear clothing that does not make you sing?
