    What particularly delights me is the floral pattern, how it's compressed into the pleated section and then released at the bottom. I never would have thought of using a floral in this way but it's really attractive. I admire your perseverance and finishing this despite the challenges. You're definitely a role model for me :)

    If you could order some more of the side panel fabric and make a pair of matching slacks I think the outfit would have a very oriental flavor. The jacket was too dark for my taste. The whiteish background color of the front panels would be a great colorr for a jacket. You have made a georgeous top that deserves to be seen in absolute perfection.

    • @thebigsewalong
      @thebigsewalong День назад

      In retrospect I think you are right about the jacket being too dark for this top. Thanks for pointing it out. As it happens I HAVE another piece of this side panel fabric that just might be enough to make a pr of pants. I'm going to see if I can make it work, that's such a fab idea!!

    8 pounds of buttons, you lucky shit! I just finished a long shirt dress and I need about 10 buttons I went over to Jo-Ann's and they almost had to revive me when I saw how much a card of buttons is. I do have a lot of buttons and I'm going to have to start planning what I make based on the buttons that I already have. YOUR dress turned out great that's a really good use for a light fabric because I usually wear a camisole under everything anyway I may have to find that one.

    The biggest difference was the pant pattern itself. The original inspi used a really dropped crotch, that center section is its own piece and theres very little ruching involved. The seams have been stitched down which makes it look like continuous gathers. I cant see the inner lower leg seam to tell but it looks like they just added length there. Ive done it with actually just cutting the side of the leg longer, then slightly curving the hemline to meet the inside seam. Of course you cant add too much to be gathered up, I think I did 5", but its a quick way. Ive done the same trick with adding horizontal side pleats too. I really admire tou for tackling this project, I know I would never bother, lol. By the time I put into the pattern, the sewing time, and the fabric Id figure it was a bargain to just buy the pants! But, now you have a new skill and worked out the problems and thats always a good thing. I think the Burda pattern may work better but doesnt Tina have a pattern that has that really long crotchline? I think it was from several years ago...cant remember the name.

    Hmmmm too much work for me I am just a bit too lazy for this, but I have a jumpsuit with really long wide legs and I was thinking about just running two rows of bias binding up the inside of the side seam and threading a ribbon up/down it to ruche the side seam up wouldn’t that achieve sort of the same effect?

    Since you asked, imo, the solid peach should not be used at all. I like it so much better with the red fabrics and they’re much more your colors. Could you eliminate a few pin tucks to substitute for the narrow side pieces? Also, imo, side panels in a different color would not be a good look for this dress in this fabric. Suggestions given with love 😂
