After all this time and still one of the most important channels on RUclips!
Wow thanks so much Dave! Appreciate your support!

Would love if you guys were to consistently make new videos
My daughter had the problem you show here. After confirming the error code from the OBD reader I sent her, I told her to watch your video. She was able to replace the solenoid -- no problem. Your video was the only one I could find that actually said what tool were needed. That made it much easier for her to repair. Thanks for your awesome content!!
So this is why is why I got a compliment on keeping my oil changed.
Hey Mike just want to thank you very much for this video has same issue in my 2011 Equinox lt took it to a shop he wanted $500 dollars to fix it. than i saw your video thanks god i saw your video i fixed it myself. once again thank you.
Sweeeeet! That’s some success right there! Thanks for watching 👍👍
Awesome tutorial 👌
Thanks 🙂
~Mike

Thanks to Eric O. at SMA! He turned us on to you.
I'll be watching regularly.

Good as always
Thank you! Cheers!

The reason why those VVT solenoids have different part numbers and have different colored connections is because they look the same and fit in either hole. However, the shape of the connection will make sure the solenoid is connected to the proper wires. And like you said, the color of the connection determines in which hole it's supposed to go into. However, there are those people who will end up putting the wrong solenoid into the location which will cause them to chase problems they created by not noticing what they are doing.
Hi Frank,
I agree, if the wiring is long enough to cross to the other solenoid, its not a full proof design to stop an accidental installation error.
~Ryan Wilsing
If you are getting a performance code it could also be the wires are pulled at such an angle that they get crimp damage right at the back of the connector, causing resistance in the circuit. I usually have to replace at least one connector with a pig tail when I do solenoids. The wires are a small gauge and damage easily but the replacement wires on the pigtail are a larger gauge.
For sure Bradley! The connectors have their issues.
~Mike
This coincides with the 2.0turbo and supercharged models as well as the 2.2l and 2.4l
Ahh yes, they are all super common for failure too!
~Mike
What if they're both black with different part numbers?
Hey Jerome,
Are they different brands? I have never seen an intake VVT with a black connector for this vehicle.
~Ryan
I just did this on a 2012 malibu
Hello,
Yeah these VVT solenoids are high failure, good thing there replacement is pretty straight forward.
Did you have to replace both solenoids?
~Ryan Wilsing
👍
Thanks Filimon!
~Mike
Hello thank you for everything please if you could do how to use vcds especially coding adaptation
Hey Walide,
Next time the opportunity comes along to do some coding on a VW or Audi we will definitely make sure we film it.
Thanks for reaching out!
~Ryan Wilsing
Thank you so much ❤️
I found some shavings on mine when I removed them. It wasn't too many shavings, but there were some spots. Car has 210k miles
Some shavings can be ok, an excessive amount usually ends up being trouble. Also pay close attention to your oil level between oil changes, these engine like to burn oil.
~Ryan
@@GoTechTraining That puts me a little at easy, and will do, thank you very much. A friend of mine recommended I flush the engine before installing them. Is it a good idea?
The biggest thing is to make sure no junk gets in the motor when installing them. Due to their location it is easy for dirt and debris to fall in.
Hello, what is the diagnosis behind this? What symptoms would a faulty solenoid cause? Thanks
Hey No Name, we have another video that covers the diag, check it out here. ruclips.net/video/I51gFnE556U/видео.html&lc=Ugxz8Zn3bnRKbFxqSYt4AaABAg
~Mike
@@GoTechTraining hehe I saw that video right after I commented that, thanks! Did you guys end up replaced both solenoids or just the one?
Both, if ones bad chances are the others not far behind.
~Mike

Good evening Nick! Hope all is well in the UK, thanks for watching!

prob need a chain thats y they code
Actually, not in this case Mike. Just the solenoid was bad...but you aren't wrong, chains are very common on these.
~Mike
Good video as always... but did someone stole your watch? I see an untanned stripe on your left wrist... :)) I know I'm going to sound annoying, but please avoid oil contact with your skin...
Hey Johnny, I take my watch off when I work on cars, don't want to wreck it! hahah good eye! And yes, I should be and often do wear gloves. Thanks for caring about me :)
~Mike
@@GoTechTraining Of course I do. The only time I find latex gloves a bit useless is when they come in contact with brake cleaner. It feels like it permeates the latex and my skin gets itchy.
I wear nitrile gloves usually. They got hard to find for a decent price there for a while.
~Mike
Great, Ask The Bozo's out there where are our Samples, Cut a way's Show and Tell :)
hahahah i'll run it up the chain ;)
~Mike
These fail all the time
For sure for sure Philly Dee!
~Mike
The 2.4l eco tec is a really bad design.
Yeh, for sure Thomas!
