This is actually pretty simple. Not sure why everyone thinks it's not. Wireless system, power conditioner, effects, marshall preamp and power amp, diezel vh4, switching unit, cabs, guitars, and backups for everything. Don't think I'm missing anything. His live tone is awesome btw. Not a huge fan of his tone on the CDs but live is great.
Idk why people hate on mike. Really nice guy and an incredible guitar player. Could be jealousy because he has a dream rig I guess but its not fair to say he's not talented because you are not a fan of his music. If you don't like it why even bother watching the video?
It's actually a simple setup for a touring guitarist. Its basically 2 amps at once and 1 effects processor. The bradshaw switcher to switch it all. It only looks complex because he has 2 of everything as backups which makes it twice as big. Its about the simplest $30,000 guitar rig you will see...haha.
The rest of his rack is a korg tuner, a voltage regulator, the switcher brain for the bradshaw pedal board and a grand total of 4 dual shure wireless rack units. The top 10 spaces of the rack are wireless systems and the switchers to switch to different packs for all the guitars.
@themodernguitarist very interesting. I've read all sorts of stuff about Angus' rig and never heard any mention of any rack stuff, let alone Mesa. Not doubting you, just taken aback somewhat.
At 3:42 you can see that theres 2 unreleased songs in the "F#,C#,G#..." tuning called "SNARE" and "FAILURE".. mystery? I tried to find them but there is nothing! :O If you got some information about these then reply to this comment! Thanks!
You would think he could cut down by using a morpheus drop tune pedal (and/or capo) and just tuning one string down for drop tunings. he could do the whole damn set with 2 baritones 2 standard lengths and two acoustics.
Satriani has probably the most basic rig you will find. He hates racks and he only uses the clean channel on his JSX amp and just his sig pedals. Vai has 3 amps and about 15 pedals and 2 effctes processors. This guy has 2 amps 1 processor for all his effects and a bradshaw system to control it. That is pretty simple to me. Those Diezels are so great sounding. At $4500 a piece they should be. The tunings on the other hand are ridiculous!!
Simple system? yep, especially if you were to compare it against The Edges bus sized rig or even David Gilmours setup. But 21 different tuning??? WTF??? His tech must realy have to be on his game backstage. But all in all I like the Mushoks guitar sound. Been a fan for a long time.
I travel with one guitar. Fender Stratocaster. I've only broken a string once in my entire career and I had a new one on before the end of the song. Even if I could I wouldn't lug that much crap around.
@moontanboy your ignorance need not continue. maybe they use alot of different tunings because aaron has a diverse voice and because quite frankly everything doesnt always sound better in standard and drop d. anyway check out the video of mike shredding and the dime all star show from 09
I swear, I was getting ready to post the same thing you just wrote! So I will give it a Thumbs Up instead. Simple huh? I nearly spit my coffee up when the camera panned in on his cabinet after he said that. I just watched the review of Guitar World on his PRS Barritone, and ended up here. Great post.
@wehurtthosewelove what about harmonics and tone????? it maybe the same notes on different frets (with alternate tunings) but the dynamics of those notes are much cooler if you have to work for it using a standard tuning. Unless your a slide guitar player there is no excuse for such showing off and more importantly no need... learn the maths to unlock the fretboard and the rest is easy.
Mike has no idea what PRS is sending him... He's got a fuckin' 513 for christ sake. Most players would kill someone for a 513. He doesn't even seem excited about his gear. He'll have one hell of a guitar collection once it's all said and done, but he probably doesn't even care about that.
I like Mike a lot. He's one of my favorite guitarists and is one of my biggest inspirations for writing riffs. He seems like a really cool guy as well

Because people are dicks.
Yea Mike's probably the most underrated guitarists out there.
y'know these guys just love to do these gear tours, they always look so excited to show off

@helikestv correction: his amp is a JMP100. In either case, he goes straight in.
Is that at Merriweather? Looks like it. I was there for that show.
What is the one u use in the videos, that’s what I was hoping to see.
i saw staind live when they opened for creed in new orleans and mike had the same tone the whole i also got the entire bands autograph yrs ago
I am not a big fan of his band but Mike is a shockingly good player.
The latest album has some good guitar work.
Cool to see local guy make it
Can anyone tell me what string gauge Mike uses for Baritone guitars and acoustic guitars?
@themodernguitarist very interesting. I've read all sorts of stuff about Angus' rig and never heard any mention of any rack stuff, let alone Mesa. Not doubting you, just taken aback somewhat.
What is the name of the background song?
At 3:42 you can see that theres 2 unreleased songs in the "F#,C#,G#..." tuning called "SNARE" and "FAILURE".. mystery? I tried to find them but there is nothing! :O
If you got some information about these then reply to this comment! Thanks!
The amount of guitars is staggering. Hopefully his tech is paid well.
The Rig of John 5 is something I consider as "simple"... For this gear, I would need a GPS to not get lost!
Can somebody tell me the eq settings on mikes deizel distorted channel?
@londonkol thats honestly the only tunings i would use plus Drop Db also known as (Drop C#).
@Addicted2gtrs one of the guitarists in bring me the horizon uses an 80 on the low E. but a regular 10 set on the other strings.
he should install gibson robot tuners in his cutom guitars it would cut back on the 20 same exact mike mushok custom's in all different tunings
You would think he could cut down by using a morpheus drop tune pedal (and/or capo) and just tuning one string down for drop tunings. he could do the whole damn set with 2 baritones 2 standard lengths and two acoustics.
Ibanez RG (Mahagony)---->Shure Wireless----->Flanger/Chorus/Wah----->Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. That's Idealistic simplicity.
@razorsharp0827 swamp "ash" its the kinda finish on the guitar.
i love these gear tours 5***** i wish i had a new guitar! i had a house fire and everything burned on x-mas eve.
@helikestv
Yeah, search "Angus young mesa rack", first result.
I wouldn't blame him. Racks were all the rage in the mid 80's - early 90's.
I saw one on his rig tuned to drop C but I don't know what song he uses it on
Something to remind you.
love the "what would ozzy do?" stickers
21 tunings holy fucking shit thats crazy!!!
thecharliescene he mainly does drops c sharp
whats the name of the song at the beginning?
This Is It.
does anybody if he tunes to drop c on any of those guitars
?
hell i bet it cost a lot. but ive never been to sure on what a guitar rig does. =/
@Kuuuhn Yes they are =)
i would love one of those with john petrucci
@schlagdog ye really look at his rig closely his talking about half of his rig 2 power aps 2 preams 2 deazel amps procesors its crazy to me :)
Kids-Can we see Adam Jones!?
Mom-we have Adam Jones at home!!!
Adam Jones at home- Stainds guitarist
awesome!
I want Paul Reed Smith to send me guitars to :(
...thought exactly the same when he said it!
Why? Because he has so many guitars? If so, then hell yes
@Xerxes666metal this is it by staind
@Death66reaper6 thts just insane!

CGCGF
Very interesting tuning.
14-75 on B? ive seen F# using 62s
The 74 is for F# in Mike’s case
i love this man... \m/
@ManicStreetStevO yeah...I'd love to have at least one...
im sure the bass player has as many basses for the tunings...
I travel with one guitar. Fender Stratocaster. I've only broken a string once in my entire career and I had a new one on before the end of the song. Even if I could I wouldn't lug that much crap around.
nwilson59 haha right!?
@schlagdog are you crazy even Steve vai or Satriani hasnt got this kind ofcomplex rig
@Death66reaper6 Breaking Benjamin use 16-70s. never heard of anyone using 75s though, thts just crazy, like he said, its a bass string haha
real fuckin simple with the 21 different tuning!! :D
@TurkeyTuck We've got a badass over here.
@razorsharp0827 oh, yeah it did sound like it a bit haha
"quite a few guitars..." :D
guy wasn't joe king!
I only use about 18 different tunings :L
@zone1480 I laughed so goddamn hard at that comment. EPIC
@moontanboy your ignorance need not continue. maybe they use alot of different tunings because aaron has a diverse voice and because quite frankly everything doesnt always sound better in standard and drop d. anyway check out the video of mike shredding and the dime all star show from 09
lol are you kidding, have you seen a tour of Petruccis current stuff, you need 2 vids just to get it all, haha his pedal board is just one vid :P
It is simple, basically all he has is his power amps, and switching for his wireless's a tuner and a noise gate, simple.
Great post.
............. there are several.
I know right? Wouldn't go above 60 myself, but I guess he likes them stiff.

@ManicStreetStevO hahahaha thank you
ahah! i only use standart,Drop D, Drop C, half and one step down tunings in one guitar!!! xD
@Deadlezz this must be a fucking nightmare to any guitar tech, in fact its ridiculous.
it looks way worst then it is because he has 2 of everything incase something goes down they just switch it over. its just large and very expensive.
@zone1480 2 hours later I'm still laughing about this ahah
1:53 jajjaja "WHAT WILL OZZY DO?" thats what we all think
Eat a bat maybe not a good idea to do that in China though.
i wanted to make a similar comment and then I saw yours :D
ye man its simple....
75 on an extended scale, for a b?!!?!?!?!??
He doesn't tune to B he was just calling it a B string. I think..
I swear every guitarist claims to "keep their rig simple".
ay wossop
I'm Ikem Ushok

To the people who say Angus Young used simple setups:
bit.ly /ofI0F4
...WHY? >_>
jesus christ 21 tuning?!?!?!? i only use 6 tuning's
i use 2
Rison Bison I use 4 mainly (standard, drop D, half-step down, and drop C#)
well this makes me die bcoz im lost though out the video lol. but im on ma first year of guitar soo =P
21 different tunings for all his songs... who call that simplicity?
I love how he says he "keeps it simple", but has racks full of stuff.
whats simple about this?
Nice chin!
Shit... going on tour with 24 guitars... just buy 2 Gibson Robots and u're good to go.
he has one tone but 21 different tunings. then he needs a backup if he breaks a string in that tuning...
LMFAO: "I try to keep things simple."
hahahahahaha agreed
So he works and sweats, but he still has a nasty waddle. lol
He likes to "keep it simple." huh?
Amazing how a guy with one tone needs 25 guitars for the road.
you're going to hurt your neck
what a SIMPLE guy... jeezuz, its sooo SIMPLE , just 10 million effects but hey, its SIMPLE. why would anybody think its not SIMPLE?!
Goal achieved: KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
simple to him maybe lol
Imagine what he thinks of complicated
