@@lindalds I'm not anti-Mormon. But I am pro-truth which by necessity makes me anti-falsehood. Which places us in a real chasm.
What would you like to talk about?

    • @lindalds
      @lindalds 2 года назад

@@mr400meter Why does this place us in a real chasm? I am pro-truth, as well. But when it comes to matters of faith, truth seems to be more or less subjective.
What I said, is that if someone wants to witness to me of THEIR faith, I will listen, if I am given equal time to witness of MY faith.
But too many non-LDS Christians seem to think that THEIR faith is a given (truth), and that we LDS should and do accept this, but still stubbornly cling to what our church says we believe (falsehood). They constantly throw these Bible verses at me, as if they were spears, thinking that THIS proves that we are wrong and the LDS church is wrong, and why can't I see that??
But if I were to "stubbornly cling" to what I was taught to believe, I would still be in the United Methodist church. Most people will join the church that most closely believes what they believe. I joined the church that most closely believes what I believe, hence my membership in the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day saints. I've been an active member now for over 40 years, and I have never looked back.
just because your beliefs are a little different from my beliefs does not make my beliefs false. I don't see my Heavenly Father taking anyone who is earnestly and sincerely seeking HIS will in their life, and throwing them into some eternal barbeque pit because they joined the wrong church, denomination or religion.
So, anyway, off my soapbox! Just wanted to clarify what I said. Thanks

To the pastors and members of Apologia church, I just want to let you know how much I appreciate the work that you are doing in your community, in the RUclips community, and in the world.. the work that you all have done through the sermons, and through evangelizing at the mills, Mormon temples, and other places! I'm just so grateful to have had the opportunity to see Truth be displayed in such a powerful way.. Jeff, Zack, Dr White, your style of preaching through CONSTANT CONSISTENT UNMOVING EDUCATION, resonate profoundly with me; I have been looking for teachers of the word who would break down and give true meaning and context to the Word of God. God I have been waiting for this my whole life! I just want you to know regardless of what you see in this crummy RUclips comment section, or any other nasty comments that our lost image bearing brothers hurl at you, please know that you have brought through God love and light that has warmed my heart and rejuvenated my soul. I was LDS for 35 yrs. Temple attending, held leadership callings and thought I was so worthy in my garments until my pride brought me to my knees in repentance and I saw a sinner bound in filthy rags in desperate need of a Savior.
I was just like the commenting Mormons on this video. I would do the same thing because Jeffery R. Holland told me to in a General Conference.
When you strip yourself of all your pride and come to the realization that it's not about YOU becoming a god or goddess in the celestial kingdom, it's about the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross and rose the 3rd day.
    "It is finished".
I never understood how God redeemed the world by His very essence putting on flesh as the Son and becoming the perfect sacrifice for the redemption of all mankind.
Now I see it from Genesis through Revelations, everything points Christ's redemption.
That alone broke me. I came completely broken to the cross begging to be forgiven and begging to know Him. I was filled with the Spirit as if every cell was changed.
As a Mormon I could not see this mainly because of all the insane false teachings today by false christian preachers. I thought all Christians were like what Jeff was talking about...fake healers, falling on the floor in spasms etc...so I get it.
I didn't know to test everything by the Word.
So, I understand the comments claiming Jeff is wrong and they are right because I could not see until the blinders came off and I was stripped of my pride and God changed my heart that was surrounded by stones.
Love our Mormon people, they are good people exhausting themselves trying to be worthy.
    Christ alone is worthy.

Churches near here (I listen to many sermons online) preach that evangelizing happens when people see "light" in us - so, that's supposed to make unbelievers ask about signing up to become Christians.
The preaching around here leaves out specifics about what "light" people are supposedly going to ask about. I notice in the Bible that Paul made a bee-line to the synagogues and did have specifics to share.

If people in the new testament believed like this guy, they would have rejected all the teachings from the apostles and prophets because no scripture should come after the old testament, right?
Many were like that but luckily some weren't.
God speaks to His children today through living prophets and apostles. The heavens are not closed. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that there will be no revelation after the Bible.
I am grateful to be a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints. I am grateful for continued revelation from heaven through God's servants on earth, the Prophets. Their direction and wisdom and teaching have helped me over the last 20 years.
Don't be close minded people, turn to God and pray about whether this sermon is true. Ask our Heavenly Father on whether he has Prophets on earth today, ask Him if the heavens are closed or if there is additional scripture from Him today. Ask with a sincere heart, with real intent and He will manifest the truth of it unto you, (James 1:5)
He has talked to man today and has given more instruction and commandments in these turbulent times.

I agree with you that there are many times when Christians are close-minded to the truth God has laid before them, but in this case, the Bible does teach that it is complete and sufficient, no more revelation needed. As Revelation 22:18 says, "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll." I hope I have correctly interpreted what you are saying, and I am sorry if I have not. Have a nice day!

Hello. Do you have anything ( information ) on the RLDS? My daughter-in-laws family is in that particular church. The RLDS believe that succession was supposed to go on to the descendants of Jospeh Smith instead to the twelve apostles. Because of this they believe that that it is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is in apostasy. Hence they think they are the original church of the restoration. So in their view they would be separate. The Community of Christ is a church that came from RLDS, but they eventually denounced the Book of Mormon as canon of scripture since they needed a loan and part of getting that loan required a denunciation of the Book of Mormon. I don’t know what group your in laws belong to. I suppose they might just refer to it as RLDS, but I don’t think they are united.

@@KnuttyEntertainmentIt’s been a year, but there is STILL the issue of Joseph Smith, who mocked God openly, by claiming things for himself that God would never promise anyone, and in the process, abused the affection of his wife by having sexual relations with many women, and using revelation from God to Justify it. Look up D&C 132. It’s STILL part of the LDS canon of scripture.
The Book of Abraham facsimiles are proven falsehoods.
If Joseph Smith lied about the two above things, what’s else did he lie about? Based on those lies alone, how can anyone accept the Book of Mormon as actual scripture? So much of the BoM is lifted from the Bible IN ADDITION to the direct quotes from Isaiah and Matthew.

What would have happened to Adam and Eve if they hadn’t partaken of the fruit?

    • @KnuttyEntertainment
      @KnuttyEntertainment 2 года назад

It’s a good question. I can only say for sure that they would have stayed as they were in a state of innocence, having no children and not knowing good from evil.
This is mere guesswork, but I would suppose that God would eventually tell them that they were ready and the time had come to eat the fruit, what would happen from there, I am unsure. Whether they would “fall” and how that fall would differ from the fall we have, I don’t know.
If they did not sin, could they die, or could they simply choose to die like Jesus did? Jesus was perfect, but could still die. Because if you can’t die, you can’t be resurrected into a spiritual body. For it is the spirit that sanctifies the flesh, and if the spirit and flesh cannot be separated-even momentarily-so the one can sanctify the other, then the body cannot be made perfect like Christ’s resurrected body was perfect, or so I’ve been told.
How would their ability to have children be affected? Are their immortal bodies capable of having children, or would they have to be made mortal, or semi-mortal where they could choose to die? Would their children inherit their immortality or their knowledge of good and evil, or would they be innocent as well, having to wait for the proper time to eat the fruit like their parents?
There are so many questions, and very few answers.

You are an "Agnostic" which means "No Knowledge" (of God).
God exists in the part of knowledge you do not yet possess.
So the question is do you WANT to know what you don't know?

Apart from that your ministry is very inspiring to me. I will strive to learn my theology properly and also arguments of different groups of people so that I can witness to others in coherent and apt manner. It is so important. If Christians haven´t witnessed to me I would be still in new age dharmic mixture of mushy mush.
It is not stressed enough in our churches. Also it is inspiring to see preacher who walks his talks. Especially on issues of abortion.
When I heard people arguing about it in the past I always thought: if you are pro-life, don´t scream at women, adopt children, start organizations where pregnant women can find support... If you are pro-choice, don´t scream at women, do something - help change system so that young girls can feel they have choice and abortion is not their only option...
But it is important to talk about it. And seeing combination of both is beautiful.

Did you know that in Joseph smiths time, there was not a church in the land that bore the name of Jesus Christ. Zero!!! Do your own research about it, its true. There was no church with the name of Jesus Christ until Joseph smith restored the true church in 1830. That bares the name of christ. Now, think about that!!! "

Born & raised Mormon….but Praise God, he helped me see the truth & now I am a Bible believing, Bible loving Born Again Christian, Praise Jesus!🙏🕊️🤍✝️
      God is so Great! ♥️💪
Bottom line, we ALL must discern any and all teachings that are contrary to the Bible and pray about it.🙏🕊️
Mormons, if you “sincerely” and I do emphasize the word “sincerely,” want to know the truth, do your research & have an in-depth study of Mormon History, I PROMISE you it will open your eyes & wake you up to the truth, that is if you are truly seeking truth. Use your discernment, God will speak to you.
We should question or research claimed & supposed truths, we should ALL be critical thinkers, and think for ourselves, and YES, it is OK to investigate our own beliefs, just to make sure we have not been deceived. It is ok to question things & it’s absolutely critical to “sincerely” pray about it & use our God given gift of discernment, because the “truth” has absolutely NOTHING to hide, and nothing to be afraid of. Praise Jesus for that!🙏🕊️🤍✝️💪
J Reuben Clark said “If we (the LDS Church) have truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not truth, it ought to be harmed.”🤔
Jesus said “Those who have eyes WILL see, and those who have ears WILL hear.” he also said “By their FRUITS ye SHALL know them”. I’m telling you right now, if you look deep into the fruits of this church and its roots, you will either be completely shocked by it & want to verify its validity, or flat out deny it, despite any evidence supporting it or not care either way because you are complacent where you’re at and don’t really care about the truth.
I do believe this is why Jesus said that those who have eyes WILL see (the truth) & those who have ears WILL hear (the truth) If you are SINCERELY seeking truth, you WILL find it. The Bible says to test the spirits, and also Jesus saying “By their fruits you, shall know them”.
There are way too many lies and deceptions with the “founder” Joseph Smith and his history, and how he manipulated the members for his own personal gain, that alone should be a HUGE RED FLAG 🚩to ALL members and investigators…. I’m just saying.😬
Also, if you look deep enough into the history, you will know in the “History of the Church” books, written by Joseph Smith himself, he actually boasted that he was better than Jesus… 😱 If that doesn’t fire off feelings of “concern” or give you a red flag, I’m honestly not sure anything will.😔 There’s a reason why they stopped publishing those books by the way.🤔 It’s called generational whitewashing.
Ephesians 2:8,9 “For by GRACE are ye saved through faith; and that NOT of yourselves: it is the GIFT of God. NOT OF WORKS, LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BOAST.🤔 ???Hmmm, that’s weird, sounds EXACTLY like what Joseph did.😬😳Mormons also believe heavily, that we are saved by our “works”, which is a 💯 FALSE TEACHING, it is NOT Biblical, in fact the Holy Bible Says the EXACT opposite, in fact The Bible literally WARNS us of doing this!!! Mormons, PLEASE Read your Bible! 🙏😔💔
If we are not teachable or open minded to other possible truths & are much too prideful, sadly one will not be able to be free from cultish religions & indoctrinations & sadly will remain imprisoned to them.😔 This is the indoctrination this church does to its members, it goes so deep.😔
We must continue to pray for these members, really everyone that are lost because there are so many that really do want to give their life to Jesus, but are being spiritually deceived, trapped, blinded & imprisoned & they don’t even know it.
…..and unfortunately some that are much too arrogant & prideful & insist on remaining a slave to it, they do not want to hear truth, they are terrified of it. It is truly sad to witness.😓
I guess the most important thing to have is a deep connection and relationship with the God of the Bible and the true Jesus Christ of the Bible. That’s ultimately what really matters, and if this religion helps some people do that, then wonderful.♥️ But please remember what Jesus spoke to his apostles in Matthew 19:29… “And everyone that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.”
I’m going to leave you with this, Revelations 22:18,19. Please Pray about it & ask God for discernment.🙏😉🕊️🤍✝️👍
Please remember that God is the same today, tomorrow and forever… he is NOT a “conforming” God, he does not change. We are NOT saved by our “works”, we are SAVED by GRACE, through faith in Jesus Christ, we are saved by what Jesus Christ did on the cross for us, NOT by what we “do” and YES, JESUS IS ENOUGH.🙏🥹♥️💪 to think otherwise, and to think that we are saved by our own personal works, discounts and discredits what Jesus did for us. The Bible IS the word of God and we should never add to it, or change it, or take away from it. Revelations WARNS us that if we do, our name will be TAKEN OUT of Book of Life!😱 I encourage you to read the Holy Bible as a little child and study it, by doing this myself I have found so much peace , love & understanding and have felt God’s love & presence more than I ever have in my entire life. It is truly a gift, and it is truly amazing!🥹🕊️✝️🤍
      Remember REVELATIONS 22:18, 19.
Stay Jesus Strong! Much love to you all. God Bless🕊️🤍🙏✝️

On the other hand, there are all kinds of people criticizing the Church. What's wrong with this picture? The Church's critics criticize everything about it. They criticize Joseph Smith, other Church leaders, the golden plates, Smiths first vision, the BOM, all other Church doctrine, the Temples, the ordinances and so on. They load up gotcha's to entrap the young Missionaries and lure them into debate. Yet the Church perseveres, while its critics call it an enemy to God. It is succinctly petty to overlook all the good the Church accomplishes, and look instead at perceived faults.

True Christians worship God in the SPIRIT, not in the dead letter.
Satan took the old covenant, mixed it with the new covenant making another covenant saying that the bible is the word of God.
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are under the OLD Covenant.
For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise, it is of no strength at all while the testator lives.
When Jesus was not yet crucified in MT, MK, LK and JN, He was going about fulfilling the law.
All scripture is/(was) given by inspiration was talking about the Old Covenant and it was only profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction not for salvation.
The bible was interpolated, words were erroneously added according to the mind of the translator.
The scriptures are not profitable for salvation, only for knowledge.
The saints under the Old Covenant slept in the grave until Jesus was crucified, then the vail was rent in twain and many of the old saints rose from the grave.
Paul told Timothy ‘Stir up the gift of God in you Timothy’
And ‘neglect not the gift of God in you Timothy’
But all that bible worshipers can see is “all scripture was given by inspiration of God”.
They search the scriptures for in them they THINK they have eternal life but they never come to the Living Christ that they might actually have life. (John 5:39-40)
    Bible worshipers are covenant breakers.
IS THE BIBLE GOD’S WORD? NO!
When Jesus/Yeshua speaks a word, it is Spirit and it is Life.
Jesus can say “peace be still” and the wind will stop blowing.
When the words Jesus spoke are written down in a book that Satan is using, then the bible becomes the word of Satan.
So, in reality the bible has become the word of the devil.
The devil had two evil rulers compile and authorize the bible to usurp God’s authority for his own use.
Constantine the sun-god worshiper had it compiled and his wicked bishops determined which books were allowed in it.
Then King James the 2nd beast 66 book authorized version is used by the devil to control and keep people out of the control of God through the Holy Spirit.
An image of God’s word made to speak “the bible says”
The gospel is not written with ink, but by the Spirit of the Living God.
There are 45,000 different bible denominations all full of evil and confusion. And 2.6 billion bible worshiping sinners.
The bible has become the word of Satan because Satan uses it to keep people from coming to the Living Christ, they keep looking for Him in the dead letter instead of in the Spirit where He can actually be found.
Ask Jesus Yeshua for the Holy Spirit and quit looking to the bible so you can overcome the mark of the beast.
Then when you do read the bible, read it only as history because that is all it is.
    THE BIBLE IS SATAN’S WORD
THE BIBLE IS THE MARK OF THE BEAST

Those who divide the body of Christ are in sin and living after the flesh.
After Jesus was raised from the dead, He sent the gift of the Holy Spirit. Then Constantine commissioned the first fifty bibles to be compiled on fine velum for his roman bishops. In 1611 King James authorized his version of the bible which now has 66 books. These bibles were compiled and authorized by two beast kings into an idol to usurp authority over the people in the guise of Christianity. Which is an abomination of desolation all over again. They use the bible to replace the Holy Spirit and the voice of Jesus Christ.
When Jesus speaks a word, it is Spirit and it is life, but after His word is spoken and quoted by someone else without the Holy Spirit then it has nothing to do with Jesus. THE APOSTLES PREACHED THE GOSPEL BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
This is the way Jesus controls His people, by His voice and by the Holy Spirit. None of the words in the bible are to us today, although the everlasting covenant is the same, and some of the prophecies are yet to be fulfilled, but we do not have it by claiming scriptures. The scriptures were to the people that it was spoken to 2000 years ago that had the Holy Spirit. So read it as history, but not for faith to you or authority from God to you. You must hear His voice to you today by the Spirit of the Living God and not steal the words of others from the past. Our bodies are the temple of the Living God when Christ is in us. No one can truthfully say that Jesus is their Lord except by the Holy Spirit, not by the bible. Satan has deceived the world by making them think that the bible is the word of God to them and that they have what it says, when it is a dead letter not written to them at all.
SATAN HAS DECEIVED THE WORLD BY MAKING THEM THINK THAT THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD TO THEM AND THAT THEY HAVE WHAT IT SAYS, WHEN IT IS A DEAD LETTER NOT WRITTEN TO THEM AT ALL.
The Bible IS NOT SALVATION every man needs to work out his own salvation. Let Jesus make your way home. The Baptist church can't do that, the catholics can't do that, the 41,000 other different denominations can't do that. Your pasture is not God. QUIT looking upon men for a way home. You can actually know him before you check out.
The bible gives men control over their god. They open the bible when they want, and make it say what they want. Men with the Holy Ghost are controlled by God; they have to wait on God.
When you serve the bible as the word of God you have taken the mark of the beast you need the Holy Spirit to overcome it, be controlled by God, NOT a book. It's ok to read the bible as history. It's ok to use it as a reference, just don't let it have authority over you

    I had a thought today
Evangelicals actually make Isaiah a false prophet
If they believe that the verse Isaiah 40:8 means that God’s word (read; Biblical texts) cannot be lost
Than Isaiah becomes a false prophet simply on account of the many lost books mentioned in The Bible itself
Missing or lost scripture referenced in the Bible:
    - Book of Enoch (Jude 1:14)
    - Second Epistle to the Ephesians (Ephesians 3:3)
    - Epistle to the Laodiceans (Colossians 4:16)

If I took that position, I would also have to agree Paul’s reference to pagan poets in Titus 1:12 or Acts 17:27-28. is literally inspired. References to other works in Scripture does not mean the works referenced are scripture.
Those references are not scripture. The Jews would have rejected that as well.

      New King James Version
8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be [a]accursed.
If Mormons do not believe in Jesus Christ of Nazareth the 2nd person of the one and only triune God you do not have saving faith. Christ preached one gospel and one gospel alone so if Joseph smith has this very same encounter with an angel that Paul wrote about then is he wrong? Is God wrong or is your man made religion wrong? You see you cant say you are a Christ-ian yet change what He said, there’s no sprinkling Jesus into your life where it’s convenient now to give your life to Christ is to die to one’s self daily not out of need or obligation but out of want because we understand that Jesus paid what I could never pay and He stopped me from an eternal doom.
You talk about other denominations as if Mormonism is a denomination which it isn’t because you have different beliefs Protestant Christian’s differ on secondary issues but not primary which is why they’re different denominations but you who preach an entire different gospel are in fact not Christians period.
Jesus isn’t Spirit brothers with Lucifer.

The difference between these apologia people and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is that the apologia people believe they are here to judge members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and to tell them they worship a different Jesus Christ, whereas, we members of the Church of Jesus Christ worship the Jesus Christ who said, Judge not. If apologia people want to worship a being who tells them to judge their fellow man, we have freedom of religion here in the United States. They are free to be judges of their fellow man. We believe all judgment was given to Jesus Christ. John 2:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son.

I'm listening to you now and you fail to make any distinction between official "Mormon Church" doctrine and common "Mormon" beliefs. Perhaps you don't know and that's not your fault, but it is a fault common to all Evangelicals, to always be telling us what we believe and what our church says. Stop that.
    Another thing....
You can bring-up and bash all the Bible verses you want but for every one there is another verse which teaches an opposing point of view. Your interpretation is therefore your own and not the ultimate "last word." It's presumptuous and arrogant of you to assume that your interpretation is the only interpretation.
If this were not true, there wouldn't be so many different sects of Christianity (and all reading the Bible.)

One of the most devastating things I ever hear is when a Latter-day Saint forgets their covenant path and decides to abandon the faith. A lot of times they abandon Christ. The only main reason members leave the Church is because of fear. Fear they cant make it, fear they are missing out on life for no reason, fear that they are deceived. Fear is never from God. No Church has more truth than the Church of Jesus Christ. No Gospel has the fullness than that given to the earth by our Lord Jesus Christ. If members dont want to join you, it is because they are strong in their covenants to God, they know they are literal Children of God, and other churches could never offer anything close to what is written in the Bible than Christs Church. You think we need to contend with you on that. Contention is of the devil. The real enemy is out there tearing families apart and making girls think they're boys and that stuff. The Church of Jesus Christ is the best weapon you have, dont contend with Christ. He will say to you in the last days, I never knew you if you do.

@@timbatdorff1165 Here is what scripture says, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7. You mistake fear of God as the fear of being wrong. They are soooo not the same thing. Fear of God is having respect for God's word and seeking to honor Him. Fear of being wrong is fearing man's opinion over God's. When a person questions their faith and fear is introduced, you should know swiftly that God is not involved in your heart. If you manage to convince LDS they have a false gospel and need to follow your opinion of who God is or else they will go to Hell, your weapon of fear is from the devil not of God. It comes from pride that you are right and everyone else is wrong and will burn. The true Gospel of Jesus Christ does NOT teach this. We teach everyone has an opportunity to become perfect as The Father is Perfect. Because God loves us, he will give us a time to repent even after death. This is the God of Love taught in the Bible, not from your opinion.

    1. Is there more than one god? allah, ahura mazda, baal, yahweh, buddah?
    2. Did the god you believe in create the universe, and everything in it?
    3. Is your god omniscient and omnipotent?
If yes, why is there any need for prayer, churches, books, signs, angels, miracles, prophets or rituals?
The god already knows everything in your mind, perpetually witnesses everything that occurs and has control over everything. What kind of a being would instead require begging, groveling, sacrifice and suffering, demand constant praise and unquestioning obedience? That is the definition of a narcissist sociopath.
    4. Is your god infallible? If your god is incapable of making a mistake, the flaws in humanity and the world are intentional. If intentional, this makes the god malicious and unworthy of being loved or worshiped.
    5. Is your god omnipotent? If so, it cannot be argued that the purpose of suffering is to learn and grow, since the god had the power to simply create the world and the people in it perfect to begin with. That means your god is a vicious sadist.
    6. If human beings are "too sinful" or "too unworthy" to understand the god and it's purposes, how are they capable of knowing for certain that this god even exists?
That argument boils down to the fairy tale, "The Emperor's New Clothes". Only the very best people could see the tailor's cloth, and to unworthy people, it was invisible. It never occurred to anyone until too late that the tailors were simply con men, and there never was any cloth. Christianity in particular regularly spews out tailors such as Jim Bakker, Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, Joseph Smith, and many more.
    7. Many Christians point to the collection of books, the bible, as proof of the existence of their god, as the literal word of god. When asked, "how do you know that the bible is true?" they answer, "Because it says so in the bible" or "I prayed about it".
If prayer could produce accurate factual information, it would be in constant practical use, to predict the weather, solve engineering problems, develop better medicines....but it isn't a means of obtaining facts.
    8. If a grammar school library included a book that vividly described genocide, slavery, adultery, war, demons, murder of infants, curses and magic, would that concern you?
    That book is the bible.
If the bible is the literal word of god, as so many christians vehemently insist, why is it full of so many self contradictions? Why is it so obscure? Why has there been so much violence through history as to it's meaning and interpretation, so many different translations and different churches, all claiming to be the only one true bible and one true church?
There is a similarity here with the dictionary. What many persons fail to understand is that the dictionary is merely a work of journalism, not a rule book. A dictionary is compiled by surveying and compiling how words are currently used, and then the dictionary reports this information, making no judgement as to correct or incorrect. When someone cites a dictionary entry to "prove" the meaning or pronunciation of a word, they are proving nothing more than how commonly that definition currently applies, a very weak argument indeed.
Yet the bible is constantly cited by smug christians as if a quote, often taken out of context, somehow "proved" their position or validated their attitudes. It's just a collection of history, poetry, wild myths, conflicting stories and arbitrary rules. It's a book that even those who insist they believe in it, violently and wildly disagree with each other as to it's interpretation and application.
An oft-misquoted line is "money is the root of all evil," when more correctly it says that "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil,". I would say instead that lack of accurate practical information is the root of all evil.
Just as the dictionary should not be used as if it were a rulebook, a grammar text, the bible is a poor substitute for a rational secular code of behavior. While it might be occasionally tolerable for a harried parent to prevent harm to an inexperienced child by fiat, saying "Because I said so," that approach is eventually going to breed frustration, contempt, resentment and disobedience. A more patient parent can explain and illustrate rational reasons for imposed rules. Religion can never accomplish that, because it is inherently irrational.
A good many christians say, "well, believing in it makes me happy,". Well, as Marx would reply, of course it makes you happy. So does opium. It's also inclined to make you ignorant, intolerant, and based upon a lot of history, violent.
Now, secular systems to govern behavior are often equally bad, but they are subject to rational analysis and adjustment. Religions are not.
    9. The lack of any evidence of the supernatural does not exclude the possibility that proof could eventually be discovered. Yet, if your god is indeed omnipotent, omniscient and infallible, why should it be difficult to communicate and understand. If I am flawed, whose fault is that? Who made me? Who created the conditions I live under?
No, it is a lot more likely that religion is just a tool created to console those at the bottom, to give them enough hope to keep serving the wealthy and the powerful without fighting back.
A good many christians like to cite the example of accomplished men of science who held religious beliefs. This is a fallacy. They did not achieve what they did because they were religious, but in spite of it. Otherwise, a scientist could and would just sit in an empty room, pray, and come up with a solution rather than perform calculations, operate equipment and conduct experiments.
If prayer brought practical results it would be used without exception, but it does not.
Many christians like to argue that science cannot explain many things, so it's an invalid way of looking at the world compared to religion, which pretends to know everything. Science never made a claim to be a method that would produce immediate and complete results. It is a technique and a process......it is not a mechanical version of the religious miracle, but that is how some christians attempt to characterize it.
Christians like to argue that something had to create the universe, but they have no answer for the question, "If that creator was god, what or who created god? You've just argued that nothing can exist without a creator, so explain that one."
    10. Is your god constantly affecting the outcome of everything? Suppose two identically religious and sincere persons, simultaneously and equally pray to god for exactly opposite things to happen. What does god do? Which one gets what they groveled for?
What kind of petty thug requires a constant flow of flattery and begging from the weak and the desperate? Is that a being worthy of worship? What kind of benevolence is there in a demand for blind obedience, with the punishment for refusing an eternity of burning torture?
    11. If Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." It doesn't say, "after I die, you can ignore the old testament and begin to write your own rules." Jesus was a Jew, which means he upheld Leviticus. So, I ask you, if you obey Jesus do you obey all of the laws in Leviticus?
If your god created EVERYTHING, that INCLUDES sin, satan and all suffering. Either through incompetence or malice. Either way, that is not a being worthy of obedience or worship.
If people are "sinful" that means that god either made them that way or created the conditions for that to be true. After that malice, we're supposed to say "thanks" for an elaborate and implausible redemption scheme that should never have been necessary in the first place.....and just a few tiny strings attached to this "gift"....blind obedience to a book of rules and a bunch of self appointed human spokesmen for god to boss you around. Yeah, no thanks.
