Your content is incredible for beginners. I agree with the majority that you might just be the best modern harp player around, and not only that, your tutorials are thorough and direct. Thankyou Will!
Invaluable lesson from a modern king of vibrato! Its taken me months and months of practicing but I've finally make progress on throat vibrato. Its difficult.it takes a lot of work. Its frustrating and you'll want to throw your harp at the wall. But when you nail it.....man, its all worth it.
Great Video Will. Thing to mention is that it can take an absolute age to master. Some players get it straight away and others like myself have struggled with it for years. I dont think my throat knows what to do.
When ever i watch one of your vids i am completely blown away by your talent and sound. Absolutely top 👍 cheers and be free. Stay strong and healthy. Denmark😎
Same here. First time watching this video (about 6 min in), and I got it on the 3. So many tutorials just focus on the 2, which I think is more difficult. My harps kinda suck, so I know when I get a decent one, it will be a breeze. Thanks, Will!
I went back and watched the old video that Will did on vibrato, and the machine gun technique/trick worked for me!! Anyone struggling with this go watch the old video as well. THANKS WILL!
Will, great lesson! I can do it, basically, but I am too slow, I cannot reach your frequency. Damn, this will take time, I guess. Or is there any technique to get up to speed?
Well explained, Will, thanks for the lesson. As a guitarist, I get really fed up with people talking about tremolo arms 🤪. I am starting to move from tremolo to vibrato (finally) on harmonica, it’s such an important technique and adds class and expression to any note. Cheers!
Great video. After watching it and practicing, I can only do vibrato about half as fast as you can, maybe even less. If I try to go faster, it gets out of control and spastic. Also, even though I'm trying not to use my diaphragm, I can feel it pulsing, and I think that's physically because I am constricting the airflow with my throat. Kind of like if you pinch on a garden hose it slows the water down.
I have to say, I've wondered whether your vibrato is so good because you are so muscly generally. You don't have an ounce of fat on you and I imagine that this is the same with your lips and throat. I'm overweight, and my vibrato is sluggish. My face is fat and my lips are also a bit flabby and don't get that punchiness you get. I don't want to sound like a nob, but I think there must be something in this. Anyway, great video as always and thanks 👍
When I try to do the draw “coughing”, it seems to come from my diaphragm instead of my throat muscles. Is there any way to focus the movement into the throat, or does it just take lots of practice to separate the 2? Thanks in advance for your help!
This is how I learned throat vibrato, but mine is much slower. Is it just a matter of trying to speed it up a little bit each day over time to get it faster?
Pretty much, you can learn to speed it up/slow it down. But everyone seems to have a natural vibrato speed where they can just relax in to it and the throat takes over without having to consciously think about it. My natural vibrato speed is faster than most
@@willharmonicawilde And it sounds great at that natural speed of yours, so I'd like to attempt to speed mine up if practice can make that possible. What do you suggest? And thanks much for your reply.
I can do vibrato just fine but my biggest problem on harp is tremolo. I use the cheating tremolo method of moving the harp in and out of my mouth slightly but it doesn’t sound as good as doing with your throat, it’s not as smooth. I can overblow/draw every note, my bends are perfect, my staccato technique especially is second to none, I feel like I can do all the “hard” stuff on the harp, but I just can’t get a good, smooth tremolo.
Will, I'm absolutely struggling with holes 4,5,6 throat vibrato. I can get 1,2,3 but get a trem sound on 4,5,6. Do I pull less on these notes? Will that be a start?
Technically VIBRATO is a movement up and down in pitch. For that reason you can only get a wide vibrato on notes that are able to bend (draw notes 1 to 6 and blow notes 7-10). You can still get a little bit of vibrato on the other notes too, just no where near as much.

Care to share specifically what you did to practice? I can perform diaphragm vibrato, and jaw vibrato, but throat vibrato still eludes me.
Yep wall meet harp😂
I always appreciate those who have succeeded, but still have time to help us noobs. Cheers.
même sans comprendre l'anglais ! je comprend ce que tu expliques! c'est génial!
Thanks man! I have played for years, but struggle with vibrato due to a paralyzed vocal cord. This helped!
Great Video Will.

DUDE !!!! I got it for the fist time. OMG thank you. The 1/2 step 3 draw did it, Now I know how it "feels" so I can work on it. THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!

Hello from Spain, I'm begginer and its difficult for me to do vibrato.. I'm going to try with your trick... Thanks
Great explanation Will. Listening to Your Killer Vibrato makes me always work on mine. I have a very long way to go
Thank you sooooo much! I will try this and master it too!
you are awesome! God bless you!
best of all explanations around youtube
Gee, you make it look easy!!! It sounds powerful, ever run out of air?
Thanks Will, I’ve been playing for along time but have never really mastered the vibrato. Good lesson, I should practice.
Muchas gracias. Estupendo. Me gusta mucho el sonido que logras. Ojalá un día pueda hacer algo similar. Nuevamente, gracias

Thanks dude!
You are such a good influence on me aaaak I needed that exact amount of salt and pepper... Amazing person yikes, yikes!
What harp key would you suggest to be a good rock all rounder

Thanks! I don't know if that has anything to with to be honest, James Cotton was pretty fat in his later years and his vibrato was still awesome!
Thank you for your lesson. Is throat vibrato possible with tongue blocking technique, please?
Yes, it's exactly the same whether puckering or tongue blocking.
Dude awesome thanks cheers!
it is freak man... its sounds so good... u r a monster.... nice lesson
is it possible to do vibrato in the blow note? how to do that?
No but its possible to make a tremolo sound
This technique also works with tongue blocking method?? I only know tongue blocking for single notes.
Works exactly the same with tongue block. The tongue isn't involved, it's all from the throat
@@willharmonicawilde thank you for fast reply! :)
I sometimes see you doing vibrato with your upper and down lips. Is that the same or another technique?

The technique is essentially the same, but you have to adjust ypur mouth/throat slightly for each note, just as you do with bends different bends.
@@willharmonicawilde cheers mate, I banged it out on a 4 today. Moving up to 5,6 tomorrow.
How did you get that blow vibrato on the 6 hole??
I'm using a custom Wilde-Tuned harmonica. You can get them from my website: www.willharmonicawilde.com/store
I just sound like an annoying fly when I do that....
I don't get how you get it so wavy. When I do it, it's very staccato

@@willharmonicawilde yes, that's it. It was pretty amazing to listen to. Loved it!
Nice, but you didn't say anything about possibly running out of breath. You seem to be able to do it ad infinitum. How?
I have another RUclips video about that. Search "How to Breathe correctly on Harmonica - Will Wilde".
I find it easier to do a vibrato on a blow note than on a draw. Maybe it’s not a genuine vibrato?

I guess vibrato on the inhale is more difficult than the other. At least that's where I'm struggling.
Inhale should be easiest, holes 1 to 6
This doesnt work it makes me cough
so frustrated. its like i dont have those muscles.
