Thanks much for this and the other videos in this series. I’ve been servicing a number of Singers recently and did my first feed dog gears using these excellent videos. My machine was a bit different and had flats on different parts of the shafts than yours did but I was able to extrapolate and we’re back in business. Appreciate your efforts sir.

You are my Hero! The hook was not picking up the bobbin thread. I read everything about timing, tried everything and was about to give up on my 54 year old, ultimate favorite machine. It was the one thing nobody mentions….the needle bar!! All I had to do was pop it up and push it down and it is perfectly sewing again. THANK YOU❤

Good man, my regards. This is by far the best video on the subject. Very well explained and easy to understand. It worked perfectly on the first try. If I had found you sooner, I would have saved myself a lot of time. Thank you very much for your effort.

I have Singer Stylist 513 with the same 2 gears that are broken. Now that I've watched the 3 videos, I'll replace the gears and time it tomorrow. Thank you for making the videos, great help

What an exceptional video, wow! Such clear visuals and lighting, and excellent tutorial. I have a Viking Husqvarna 6030 (model 6000 series), made in 1973 date range that I rescued from a garage sale. The needle and presser foot shafts have similar configurations with the Singer you are working on. I have a front loading bobbin case not top loading. But the concept is the same. My timing is off, after cleaning up the machine, and I probably jiggled something out of its place, so this was very useful. In essence there are two players:
    1. Needle shaft (use higher marking level with bushing), push needle all the way into its slot and make sure it is not a bent needle. Pay attention to position of 'scarf' groove in needle shaft - it is central to timing. Needle position = zero width.
    2. Shuttle Race holding the bobbin case. This can be separately adjusted if needed by that screw in the shuttle shaft in back of machine. Loosen, adjust shuttle manually to align with needle scarf (groove) about the center point of scarf, then tighten up screw on shuttle shaft. Got it! On the Viking there are 3 screws, 2 black, 1 silver. The Silver one has the point that holds position of shuttle race.
    3. Once the needle scarf center point aligns with tip of hook on shuttle race, you have it.
Viewers please note that you can clean your machine safely with Rubbing alcohol or a 50:50 mix with Mineral Spirits and Alcohol. Oil with Triflow silicone oil - this does not gum up. I just did mine and it works so well! Use a heat gun or hair dryer first on metal parts (careful with the plastic) to loosen up old oil, then scrub it off with a toothbrush, wipe, repeat, then oil up.

I have several vintage machines one being a Singer 6105 which we’ve changed all the cogs but I had trouble with the timing. I’ve just fixed it after finding the lines on the needle bar and guessed what they were for as they were not in the same place as your machine. Great clear and very informative Thankyou

    Thank you, very helpful,
I think you may have mentioned checking hook timing when buying a used machine in another video, if not it's a good way to tell if a machine is going to need work

Your videos are so incredibly helpul, they really are a priceless treasure, so thanks a lot for all that more than useful information! Just for curiosity's sake: am I mistaken, or have the feed dog gears in this particular machine (as seen in 13:12 ...) been built in reversely ("mirrored")? I've seen machines with the worm screw of the longish gear pointing to the right. Cheers, Martin

Thanks. The long gear nearly always has the set screw on the left but there may be some models that are the reverse.

I followed all 4 videos for Singer gear replacement and timing -- excellent!! It now sews with the handwheel. I plugged it in, and the light came on, but the machine will not sew. I had trouble getting the electrical component out, and I suspect I dislodged something?

Your videos have really helped me a lot with the fixing of my Singer 784, thanks a lot!! Would you happen to know how to re-adjust/center the needle on my model? I can’t quite understand how to fix this…

Thank you for your very informative vids, I had 2 led lights that were not illuminating, straight stitch and bobbin winder, those I repaired in accordance with your vid, I assembled it and all led's lit up and working well, But had cause to pull the board out again, assembled it putting all the connecting wires back into their relative positions ( I Think) and now no led lights at all, also changed the resister in the motor, motors fine.
The year of make was 1979 for my Futura 1000 , can you please advise me what to try to rectify,
(I did whilst switched on put the last line of wires on the top board (J19 ) and got a spark from the red terminal wire, but cannot find a fuse. J17 and J18 have no wires going to them?.

I have a Singer cg500 somewhat like yours.
I see no timing marks at all.
Can you suggest how to set the needle height if there are no marks? (after that it should be easy to set the bobin hook timing as you show it). Tks

I have a singer inspiration (old version). The bar has three lines, I've tried this using the second and the third line (two attempts separately) and it doesn't work. What do you suggest me? Do you adjust the machine using the zigzag or the straight stitch?

The 2 lines on my needle bar are on the top, not the bottom as you showed (Singer stylist 534). Can you tell me how to set the timing in my case. Thanks.

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  Год назад +1

Hi. It works the same way. Bring top line down level with top of bearing, that's your bottom dead centre of needle bar. Rotate in operating direction until lower line is level with the top of the bearing, that is where the hook point should line up with the centre of the needle. Thanks.
