  • If your sewing machine is skipping stitches, one of the areas you should check is the needle bar height to see if it has slipped. In this video, we’ll show you how to check and set proper needle bar height on your Sailrite Ultrafeed Sewing Machine.

    This was a really big help. I did not trust my skill level to fix my machine, but I managed to get it working again. Yeah. Thanks for a really good video.

    I like those machines, they look durable. Thanks so much for this video. I have watched so many trying to find just what you explained so well. The video quality and close-up shots are spot on. Using the screwdriver to point out needle and eye hook proximity to one another with a close up view helped tremendously too.
    All the other videos I watched did not show or tell me exactly what the hook part was, they only vaguely pointed at the whole part.
    I now know what part is the hook, and that the scarf is the flat part on back of needle just above the eye... and I know where to line them up together because I could SEE it! (claps gleefully)

    Very helpful video! I watched this a long time ago when I got my machine, but today had a needle strike (first one) and boogered up the scarf on the shuttle hook. Took me 3 more needles before I figured it out. Cleaned up the hook and checked the timings. Running great again and onto the next part of the project! Thanks!

      My machine was sewing great. I was sewing masks, scrub caps , bags and gowns for our local hospital .Then all of a sudden the needle hits the hook mechanism underneath. How do I fix this .

      @@maberyall9152 I just opened the case of the sewing machine then tried to adjust the height of the needle to make sure the timing is right. If your machine keep missing stiches, you shoul try this method. My sewing needle broken and the problem happened.

      Yvette Dinh thanks for answering. My machine won’ t pick up the bobbin thread. The piece in the bobbin casing is very loose so if I try to raise or lower the needle it hits the casing and bends the needle. Not sure what to do. It’s $50.00 just to have it looked at.

      @@maberyall9152 I looked at the right timing for sewing machine then I tried to find the height of the needles. It will take sometime to figure out. Don't turn on the machine when you do that. Turn it off and use the wheel to test the result. Hope the video helps you. My English is not good at all. ^^

    My machine got out of adjustment after contacting a carbon fiber rod in a kite (while sewing manually...). The needle bar got out of adjustment and this video made it very easy to correct - and I'm back up and sewing!

    Is it possible to adjust the front-to-back movement of the needle bar in the Sailrite? If so, how? Thanks.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  5 лет назад

      I have never done that (move the needle bar back or forward) so I am not sure. You can email this question to support@sailrite.com and a sewing machine tech will contact you if this is possible.

    I successfully lowered the needle height but seem to have knocked it off center . The whole thing skews left. Sews fine set at R but sews to the left. I can see that the bar that adjusts centering is in line with the cushion screw I used to adjust needle height but I can’t manipulate it with that screw loosened. Help!

      If this is a Sailrite Sewing Machine get in-depth help by emailing: info@sailrite.com and we will assign a sewing machine tech to help you resolve any issues.
      A bending needle happens usually when the operator turns corners very sharply while sewing or when in a stopped position with the needle buried only slightly in the fabric. In those cases the needle enters that fabric at an angle and as it travels downward it becomes bent even more and then it hits the cap spring or the hook. So, when turning a corner, in a stoped position, bury the needle to the deep part of the shaft and this can be avoided. This can also happen when switching from zig-zag and straight stitch with the needle buried in the fabric or when moving from or to reverse in a stopped position with the needle buried. Avoiding these situations will greatly minimize the amount of cap spring and hook maintenance required.
