    The whole” live at Tilburg” video is off the charts...amazing. Porcupine Tree is in a league of their own. Such a great ensemble of musicians. It’s a crying shame their not in the studio these days creating more of this magic. Great reaction!

    in my 18 years now listening to Porcupine Tree I've seen them live only 3 times, the concerts were the best ever, right up with the King Crimson concert I visited in 2015... and a plus, Gavin Harrison is one of the King Crimson drummers :)
    Too bad Porcupine Tree broke up (or just isn't active anymore) since "The Incident". But I remember Steven Wilson saying that Porcupine Tree is dead.
    by the way: the first Porcupine Tree song I've ever listened to was "Stranger By The Minute" from the "Stupid Dream" Album. That's what got me started. It was a different era of Porcupine Tree where Chris Maitland was still on the drums (he's fantastic too!!). But the albums Stupid Dream (1999) and Lightbulb Sun (2000) from that era are still my favourite albums from PT. Also their Compilation "Recordings" from 2001. When Gavin Harrison took over the drums in 2002 for the "in absentia" album their sound changed, which is not bad, it was just a new era beginning which brought us in absentia, Deadwing, FOABP, The Incident.
    I think you can say that PT had three different eras. 1989 to 1994 where SW essentially was alone and it was more electronical and ambient music (which changed with "The Sky Moves Sideways" in 1994 when the other guys joined).
    Then the following albums Signify, Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun. Tracks like "Russia On Ice", "Don't Hate Me", "Last Chance To Evacuate Planet Earth Before It Is Recycled", "Even Less", "Hatesong" are unforgotten for me. I listened to these albums hundreds of times, I still am.. just yesterday I listened to Recordings, Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream :D
    And lastly the era with Gavin Harrison on drums from 2002 to end.
    You should react to a whole album. Maybe react to "Warszawa", a live album where they played a live radio concert on polish radio in 2001. It's awesome.

    Happy July 4th! I thoroughly love that you two love Porcupine Tree. I do too, but haven't yet heard but perhaps half their long inventory of tracks. (Frank Marino suggested that I try them when he and I spoke at one of his gigs here in 2007.) And thanks for turning us on to Steve Wilson's other works also!

    Back in the mid to late eighties, Steven Wilson was playing keyboards for a time with a UK band called 'Blazing Apostles' (there are one or two videos on YT from the Mean Fiddler gig in Harlesden, London, but you only get a short glimpse of him, left side of screen) .
    I was his roadie/tech during that time.
    He was super talented.
    Enjoying your videos btw (the orchestral Whiter Shade of Pale video blew me away!)

    After listening to you for a few days, I'm blown away by a couple things. You (Rich) seem to have the EXACT same taste in music I do. I discovered Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson about ten years ago and they are my favorite to this day. Steven Wilson was my best concert experience to this day (saw him twice). I grew up on Metallica, Pink Floyd, Tool. As I go through your catalog, I keep wanting to request something and you've already done so many that I wanted to suggest! So I'm gonna request one of my favorite Steven Wilson songs that I don't think you've done.. Steven Wilson - Index. Great video also. It's pretty dark and little different style for him. Also, I know how Kel introduced you to Type O Negative and I'll suggest another cover by them - Summer Breeze (Set Me on Fire). I hope you keep going down the Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson rabbit hole..it's very deep and very wide. Good god there is so much.

However, Rich's statement abt the keyboards is slightly hyperbolic lol lest we forget keyboards from bands like Rush (Getty Lee) Yes (Rick Wakeman, Geoff Downs, Tony Kaye) and Nightwish (Tuomas Holopainen) to name just a few.

    • @nikelodeon6852
      @nikelodeon6852 5 лет назад +1

      Keyboardists like Geddy Lee and Richard Barbieri are very different breed that focus more on creating epic soundscapes than playing many notes. Whereas Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson and Jordan Rudess are technical virtuosos. So not saying one type is better than the other cause they're different types of keyboardists so no need to compare...

      @@PHLCoffeeSnob yes. and when they play Porcupine Tree stuff the drummer from the "Steven Wilson" band (Craig Blundell) can't really keep up with the stuff Gavin Harrison played. I just heard "The Sound Of Muzak" from Steven's "Home Invasion" live album. Craig Blundell is a fantastic drummer, no doubt, he has to be when he plays with Steven, but Gavin is just another league. In this song it sounds like Craig was a bit overchallenged.
