Some added content that even the terminals didn't show: The Didact was actually twisted by the Flood into having a more aggressive view of the Mantle, and increased his hatred of humanity, so as to generate further conflict amongst the Forerunner government and make them easier to conquer. At least PARTLY why he started off more on the side of DEFENDING humanity in the first terminal, but had a MASSIVE viewpoint change of them(/us) later on.
EJ it has been great to revisit all the terminals (minus H3) along with you. Better yet, you correctly unraveled the story points of practically every terminal! Now, unfortunately H4 terminals didn't do much for your understanding of H5, but if you do your homework watching H4 Spartan Ops cutscenes. Those will give you the most context for H5; which honestly isn't much. Still, some questions you have as you get into it will be answered and the cutscenes are a pretty decent watch
The abominations are the promethean knights, the robot things we face. The composer was meant to digitalize organic beings, keeping their original essence intact, but instead it made horrid war machines with almost nothing of the original model. It basically corrupted a living, sentient being into an empty metal carcass whose only will in life is to cause more destruction, kinda like the opposite to the Flood, in the sense that one does it in flesh and bone, the other in a metal core. In the Forerunner's society, the three at power were the Librarian (leader of the Lifeworkers), the Didact (leader of the Prometheans), and the Master builder (Master of the Designers who constructed most things like the Halos). The Librarian was hoping that the didact would come out as a guide to humans, because she believes that he would have access to the Domain while in the Cryptum (you know, the thing Guilty Spark mentioned that they used to preserve all of their information like a cosmic Internet). But what she and the rest of them didn't know, is that the Halos would forever damage the Domain, irreversible erasing almost all knowledge of their civilization and wisdom). The didact was also tortured both physically and psicologically by the Gravemind during their war, so all of that culminated in him being forever trapped alone with his madness, that's the one thing the Librarian didn't foresaw in her plans.
I suggest watching Spartan Ops. That is more of the lead up for Halo 5 and does explain a few things that would confuse you if you went in blind. The Forerunners worked off of a council and they had sections of that central council that led things like building projects, nature projects, and military projects. The Master Builder was the leader of building things. He built the two Arks and the two Halo arrays. The original Ark and 11 of its 12 rings were destroyed. The rings were destroyed at the Forerunner capital when the Flood took control over them. The main military AI Mendicant Bias had betrayed the Forerunners and allowed the Flood to take over his Halo ring. The Flood fired the ring at the capital killing every Forerunner at it which numbered in the billions and it killed most of the Forerunner government. The Master Builder was on trial for firing a Halo at a peaceful planet. The Librarian was in charge of life. So she basically took care of plants, animals, and anything else thats alive. She cataloged almost every species in the galaxy so the Forerunners could put the species back after firing the new Halo rings. She unfortunately missed a world and the Forerunners only were made aware of their existence after firing the rings. They heard a message from a new civilization announcing their expansion into space right after the button was pushed to fire the array. She died on Earth after hiding the portal to the Ark. The Didact was leader of the military and he controlled everything to do with it. He created the ai Mendicant Bias. Mendicant Bias was infected by the Logic Plague by a Precursor called the Primordial. The logic plageu is basically overwhelming something with so much information that they can't think correctly. Precursors are basically galactic gods. They created every living thing in the galaxy and were killed off by the Forerunners when the Precursors told them they wanted humans to hold the Mantle of Responsibility. The surviving Precursors hid away and turned themselves into dust. That dust became the Flood. The Primordial was still Precursor but acted as the first Gravemind controlling the Flood. He ordered them to attack the Forerunners as revenge for betraying their creators. A lot of info there. Mendicant Bias killed billions of Forerunners before being stopped by a new AI Offensive Bias. Mendicant Bias was taken apart but part of him snuck on a Forerunner ship. That ship is the same ship Truth has in High Charity and Mendicant Bias was there the whole time. You can hear him talk in one of the cutscenes and he talks to Chief in Halo 3's terminals. Remember that last ring of the 12 because it does show up eventually later on also remember Mendicant and Offensive Bias because they too are referenced later on. After you finish the games you can probably watch lore videos on some of this stuff because it gets very expansive.
You should watch lore youtubers like hiddenxperia and installation 00 especially hiddenxperia he's the best in my opinion lore videos wise It makes sense halo 2 focused on the covenant because you literally play as an elite for half the game and plus humanity had been fighting the covenant from 2525 to 2552 to 30+ years and halo 1 was mostly about spark and installation 04
it sucks that 343 ret conned lore that Bungie made. Everyone has their separate opinions of the 343 games but Halo used to be an absolute powerhouse in the gaming world, and now its not even talked about hardly.
They ret conned the lore that bungie made because bungie didn’t care about there own lore, halo reach was the culmination of it, it’s an incredible game, yes but at the time halo reach almost destroyed 80% of the lore. 343 at this day still working on ret conned halo reach, and the desaster that bungie made with it.

Right off the bat, a Covenant remnant of Jul Mdama/The Didact's Hand.

Recorded my reaction to H4 Spartan Ops a few days ago, I'll have that up soon. Good recommendation, they were a lot better than I had expected!
Nobodies perfect.

RECUIM was a shield world like it there are many in the galaxy supposed to be a protected world from the halo array
